I called three different roofers to get quotes for the gutter replacement on our Victorian house. Tom Lee Roofing was referred to me by a friend. Michael who came out to the property to do the estimate was so personal and professional. We even took the time to get up on the roof to get a quick look. Estimate sent over immediately and approved by me and my wife. Ryan was in contact with me getting us scheduled and rescheduled a couple of times due to the rain that we have been having. The back part of our house got a new roof! Tom Lee Roofing. They fixed up a different part of our roof when we first bought the house in 2009. They found a way to repair the roof which was $10,000 cheaper than the quote we got during the home inspection process. They did a quality job. 16 years later, no leaks or any problems. Now we asked them back to repair this other part of the toof, which was very old (installed way before we bought the house). Once again, their work is top notch! They are careful about cleaning up and clearing away all the old materials, too. Very happy with Tom Lee Roofing, highly recommend if you ever need any roof work done. read more

Recently we needed to replace an aging roof in SF and looked into several highly rated companies in the bay. Tom Lee Roofing came with strong recommendations and a proposal that felt well-scoped for our needs, without cutting corners or adding unnecessary costs. The only "downside" was that they are quite popular, so we had to schedule several months out. Once the project began, their team was very professional, considerate, and clean. They completed the full re-roofing in about a week and it held up well during the next heavy rain. They even came back months later as one of our skylights had a bit of wind leakage, to add in more weather sealing. Overall a very satisfying experience. You should do your own research of course, as the 4-5 roofing estimates we got were massively different in price and scope, but I don't think you can go wrong with Tom Lee. Highly recommended, just get on their waitlist soon if you need their services. read more

Only after we reach agreement to any additional work and cost does he then add an addendum to the signed contract. - At job completion, Michael met with me and told me, he wants me to be happy with the work they did for me. When my roof started leaking in 2010 I had Tom Lee Roofing replace it. Everything had been fine up until a short while ago when rainy season started here in San Francisco. I had a minor leak develop and immediately emailed Tom Lee Roofing about it. They quickly responed back and sent an inspector out to check it. He verifed where the leak was occuring and a time was set up for the repair. The crew came out on the day we settled on and were done with the repair within 2 hours. Very thorough inspection finding the exact spot of the leak and a great job sealing and re-shingling that area. After reviewing several quotes, I thought Tom Lee was the most cost effective. They were willing to replace some downspouts, which other contractors wanted me to hire a plumber for. I have contacted Tom Lee Roofing a few times to quote different jobs including my own home. I learned about them though my neighbor who has used their services for many years with great success. I was finally able to use them on my mother's roof to quote on reroofing. They instead suggested to simply just do some roof maintenance to extend the life of the existing roof. That's how honest they are. Instead of quoting an entire new roof as I requested. They saved us money instead. They recommended cleaning, replacing some flashing, sealing roof penetrations, coating with aluminized paint coating (to protect the existing asphalt layer) and also replacing a rusted downspout drain pipe. They even agreed to paint the new downspout pipe. Highly recommend Tom Lee Roofing for all your roofing needs. They are quick to reply and their quotes are very reasonable. That being said they are usually very busy and booked far in advance so call early to set up your appointment. read more

These guys were so, so good. My wife and I wanted to replace our flat roof.  Michael came by to offer a quote.  Friendly, no hard sell, patient with my questions. The amount quoted was several thousand dollars less than a competitor's quote.  Michael also flagged that it wasn't clear whether a bathroom fan was venting into the attic (bad) instead of venting outside (good).  He said that if the fan wasn't venting outside and we hired them to replace the roof, they'd add the vent at no additional charge. We hired them.  The communication process was great.  Kris and Amy helpfully answered a ton of my questions.  They were also able to move up our roofing date due to some last minute availability.  We had a new roof within about two months of signing the contract (March to May).   The day of the re-roofing went better than expected.  They arrived early.  The foreman, Uriel, was very helpful and communicative -- and had been briefed by Kris about my and my neighbor's concerns.  The team noticed that there were *two* bathroom fans not vented appropriately and addressed both, in addition to the vent for the kitchen range hood, all at no extra charge.  They were also very diligent about clean-up of both my wife's and my yard and my neighbors' yard.  The team even neatly folded a tarp I'd put down! A smaller, two-person team came back a few days later to do some finishing touches, and again, everything was perfect. The foreman, Joaquin, was unbelievably nice, and everything was left in great condition. Obviously, if the roof leaks when it rains, I will update this review to be ... much less positive :)  But for now, and unless this is updated by the time you read it, A+, would strongly, strongly recommend.  They made this process so easy.  And I can't emphasize enough how much I appreciate them flagging and addressing the ventilation before it became a problem, without trying to squeeze us for more money.  We've already started talking to them about periodic roof/gutter cleaning.  I can't imagine choosing a different roofer. read more

We just completed a project including re-roofing of two homes on one lot in the Richmond district. My roof looks beautiful and I am assuming that it will be intact and water tight for a very long time. However, I have the most praise for the service and professionalism of the company and its staff. After studying the reviews on Yelp and Bay Area Consumer's Checkbook, I decided to contact Tom Lee Roofing as they had consistently high reviews. I was looking for a company to inspect our roof to make sure it was all right after the high winds and rains we've received over the last few years. They did a very thorough inspection and specified precisely what they would do. This included removing a large buildup of mold, looking for any loose tiles and replacing them, sealing and painting all the piping and vents, water proofing our dutch gutter, cleaning the light well, checking the downspouts, cleaning the gutters and installing leaf guards on the front gutters. When they finished, their cleanup was immaculate. I was very impressed with their thoroughness and their updating me on what they found while they were doing the work. They did my roof several years ago, but during one of the horrible storms this winter I thought part of it flew off. They came out to check it out and, thankfully, it wasn't from my roof, but they said that they needed to replace some rusty things and remove vegetation. The BEST EVER SERVICE!!! Howard comes out and inspects the job...what you want, what is needed, if and how it can be done, and when. Howard goes through every aspect of the job and breaks it down. What's refreshing is how honest they are about the job; probably because they are so busy they don't have to 'drum-up' work. We needed a new deck and our tile guy required 'flashing' to protect the new deck tile from absorbing water and the room below it. Tom Lee Roofing did all of the flashing and water-proofing...GREAT JOB. Here are the most important parts of hiring this company: They let you know right off how busy they are. They show up exactly when they say they will be there. The job took 1.5 days and that is what they said it would be. The men worked hard the entire time. Once finished, Howard came back out and looked over everything for any flaws, or mishaps. Totally thorough. Originally, I called them for a roof & to replace a cracked skylight; I was told my roof was fine and would be in good shape for at least another 5 - 10 years. Definitely worth the wait if you can! There's a wait, and it's for a reason. These folks are genuine San Franciscans doing business here and continuing the legacy of what began a generation before them. They have their hearts in the right place and they are fairly priced. You will know that you have peace of mind if you choose Tom Lee Roofing. What's most telling is that even when things did not go 100% right (cable line from internet disconnected and check was not cashed as quickly as I would have liked due to what they said was a glitch), they work in an expedited and responsive fashion to fix things. The only recommendation is to contact the owner upon completion of the job to check in and to review items related to the fact that a permit person will be arriving shortly after the job is complete. That wasn't explained to me, so a little bit more practice on closure and follow-up would be great. Roof looks great and all options were outlined to me during the job when we realized that there was more involved than what was previously quoted. They are fair and responsive. And completely professional. There are lots of roofers out there, but if you want to be worry free, choose these folks. read more

Tom Lee Roofing replaced my flat roof and skylight, as well as installed a new skylight, for my house in San Francisco. They were punctual and communicated very effectively through the whole process. The quote was well detailed, they handled change orders effectively, and even communicated with a contractor working at my home to coordinate their schedules. Since the work was completed they have come back twice to repair the siding below the new flashing that came off during our recent heavy winds. Again, they were punctual & professional, and agreed to do the repairs under warrantee. It could have gone either way and it was generous of them to do the repairs without billing. Ultimately, my only complaint is they they just do roofing. If there were a Tom Lee Plumbing, Tom Lee Construction, Tom Lee Mechanic, etc. they would all be my first choice! read more

Awful to do business with, or at least to get a straight answer out of. The provided a quote to replace a skylight, but after repeated attempts at asking both via email and phone, refused to provide details of what was included in the quote, like if hauling off my old skylight was included, as their competitors did, so I could compare apples to apples. Similarly they suggested $1300 of roof maintenance, but refused to say what maintenance was included in that $1300. They may or may not do good work, but they certainly do not seem on the up and up when they don't wish to provide standard details on what is or in not included in their "quotes". They stated they were unable to provide such details, but seeing as how every other quote I received did provide those details, why are they not able to? The fact is they are able to, they just don't wish to be transparent or act in good faith. read more

We looked at the roof and he suggested performing repairs in certain areas from where the leaks most likely originating. It was a few weeks before it was my turn on their schedule, so don't delay if you need roofing repairs. The company is in demand. The crew is professional and obviously knows what they're doing. They knew the task at hand and did the job in one day without me having to get involved. Saying they were easy to work with is an understatement. They also replaced my gutters and installed a new skylight. All of which look and work beautifully. I'm writing this six weeks after the work was done. A friend recommended them after my previous roofer failed to identify how to fix my roof leak. Tom Lee came and identified the issue and solution. They took care of arranging for a plumber as well for the portion that involved the pipe connection. After the job was done, I noticed an issue with the plumber's silicone patching and called their office next day not expecting much. But, within the same day, they sent someone over to fix my issue even though it was not technically their problem. Again, so impressed with their values as a company. Tom Lee Roofing exceeded my expectations. Roof has been installed since 5/2/2012. They coordinated with Solar City on our panel installation and the process was completely seamless. Our home is an 1889 Victorian in the Mish - architect was TJ Welsh and I was dreading another stinking tar & gravel roof. UGH. Solar City suggested as an alternative a white IB Roof system that can provide sun reflectivity to our solar panels while reflecting summer heat out and another bonus - fire retardant. That was the ticket for me!!! It works and absolutely no stinking mess. We've had a couple hot ones here this summer and it feels like air conditioning upstairs. YAY! How great is that! Tom Lee and his crew install this type of roofing system. It requires a license and training to install. The job took 2 days. One day was in tandem with Solar City installing the stanchions. Additional work they found that made me nervous - we have two original stained glass roof skylights above our front and back staircases. Tom appreciated every aspect of a historical house and suggested investigating all the seams etc. and cleaning all the stain glass. They found a leak and replaced the front roof skylight glass. The end job was gorgeous. Wow - so much more light on both staircases. Big improvement. They also found one split redwood "something or other" on the edge of roof. My husband went up the scaffolding and took a look. I forget what they replaced? OOPS - But they supported and replaced it. They were absolutely thorough.
