I've had Tom Lee Roofing do regular inspections and annual gutter cleanings and fixes. After having first checked out several roofing companies, they came across as the most professional and well organized. They responded promptly to my emails and made it easy to schedule visits. Their estimates seemed reasonable and didn't give me the sense that they were recommending lots of unnecessary work. Communications have been good about the overall state of my roof and when a replacement may be needed. As for the work itself, their crews arrived and finished on time. After interviewing a number of roofing companies we returned to Tom Lee Roofing who said we still had a few years left on our roof and gave us a very reasonable estimate to make repairs before the rainy season. They completed the work as scheduled including exterior trim replacements that we hadn't anticipated for the price quoted. They also identified a few holes where we have had mice crawl into our walls and sealed those off, and repaired our light well roofing as well. Very professional and friendly crew. I called three different roofers to get quotes for the gutter replacement on our Victorian house. Tom Lee Roofing was referred to me by a friend. Michael who came out to the property to do the estimate was so personal and professional. We even took the time to get up on the roof to get a quick look. The back part of our house got a new roof! Tom Lee Roofing. They fixed up a different part of our roof when we first bought the house in 2009. They found a way to repair the roof which was $10,000 cheaper than the quote we got during the home inspection process. They did a quality job. 16 years later, no leaks or any problems. Now we asked them back to repair this other part of the toof, which was very old (installed way before we bought the house). Once again, their work is top notch! I have been using Tom Lee Roofing Inc. for years to do maintenance on all my properties in San Francisco. Always professional, Randy has always been my estimator. For 8 days, I worked closely with them to replace two roofs on two of my properties in the Castro District in San Francisco. One a Stick Victorian from 1891 and the other a Carriage house from 1883. It was a big job indeed that required some scaffolding on one of the taller properties. There were days I had up to 11 workers at one time getting this job done. Every day was a pleasure working with the crew and also the office staff. They all came to work and did not disappoint! At the end of every work day all outside was left clean ready for the next work day. We found some additional work which was to be expected and executed beautifully. Permits were pulled and I made sure after the final inspections that permits were changed online to Complete on the DBI web-site. Recently we needed to replace an aging roof in SF and looked into several highly rated companies in the bay. Tom Lee Roofing came with strong recommendations and a proposal that felt well-scoped for our needs, without cutting corners or adding unnecessary costs. The only "downside" was that they are quite popular, so we had to schedule several months out. Once the project began, their team was very professional, considerate, and clean. They completed the full re-roofing in about a week and it held up well during the next heavy rain. They even came back months later as one of our skylights had a bit of wind leakage, to add in more weather sealing. Overall a very satisfying experience. You should do your own research of course, as the 4-5 roofing estimates we got were massively different in price and scope, but I don't think you can go wrong with Tom Lee. When my roof started leaking in 2010 I had Tom Lee Roofing replace it. Everything had been fine up until a short while ago when rainy season started here in San Francisco. I had a minor leak develop and immediately emailed Tom Lee Roofing about it. They quickly responed back and sent an inspector out to check it. I have contacted Tom Lee Roofing a few times to quote different jobs including my own home. I learned about them though my neighbor who has used their services for many years with great success. I was finally able to use them on my mother's roof to quote on reroofing. They instead suggested to simply just do some roof maintenance to extend the life of the existing roof. That's how honest they are. Instead of quoting an entire new roof as I requested. They saved us money instead. They recommended cleaning, replacing some flashing, sealing roof penetrations, coating with aluminized paint coating (to protect the existing asphalt layer) and also replacing a rusted downspout drain pipe. They even agreed to paint the new downspout pipe. Highly recommend Tom Lee Roofing for all your roofing needs. They are quick to reply and their quotes are very reasonable. These guys were so, so good. My wife and I wanted to replace our flat roof.  Michael came by to offer a quote.  Friendly, no hard sell, patient with my questions. The amount quoted was several thousand dollars less than a competitor's quote.  Michael also flagged that it wasn't clear whether a bathroom fan was venting into the attic (bad) instead of venting outside (good).  He said that if the fan wasn't venting outside and we hired them to replace the roof, they'd add the vent at no additional charge. We hired them.  The communication process was great.  Kris and Amy helpfully answered a ton of my questions.  They were also able to move up our roofing date due to some last minute availability.  We had a new roof within about two months of signing the contract (March to May).   The day of the re-roofing went better than expected.  They arrived early.  The foreman, Uriel, was very helpful and communicative -- and had been briefed by Kris about my and my neighbor's concerns.  The team noticed that there were *two* bathroom fans not vented appropriately and addressed both, in addition to the vent for the kitchen range hood, all at no extra charge.  They were also very diligent about clean-up of both my wife's and my yard and my neighbors' yard.  The team even neatly folded a tarp I'd put down! A smaller, two-person team came back a few days later to do some finishing touches, and again, everything was perfect. The foreman, Joaquin, was unbelievably nice, and everything was left in great condition. Obviously, if the roof leaks when it rains, I will update this review to be ... much less positive :)  But for now, and unless this is updated by the time you read it, A+, would strongly, strongly recommend.  They made this process so easy.  And I can't emphasize enough how much I appreciate them flagging and addressing the ventilation before it became a problem, without trying to squeeze us for more money.  We've already started talking to them about periodic roof/gutter cleaning.  I can't imagine choosing a different roofer. read more

I was looking for a company to inspect our roof to make sure it was all right after the high winds and rains we've received over the last few years. They did a very thorough inspection and specified precisely what they would do. This included removing a large buildup of mold, looking for any loose tiles and replacing them, sealing and painting all the piping and vents, water proofing our dutch gutter, cleaning the light well, checking the downspouts, cleaning the gutters and installing leaf guards on the front gutters. When they finished, their cleanup was immaculate. I was very impressed with their thoroughness and their updating me on what they found while they were doing the work. Tom Lee Roofing put on our new roof and drainpipes when we first moved into our home in 2009. We needed to have the older (galvanized steel) drainpipes replaced this year. They were able to do this with ladders (no expensive scaffolding) and did a great job. In addition, our home is detached with four sides to work on -- the double crew worked very hard to finish in one day. The BEST EVER SERVICE!!! Howard comes out and inspects the job...what you want, what is needed, if and how it can be done, and when. Howard goes through every aspect of the job and breaks it down. What's refreshing is how honest they are about the job; probably because they are so busy they don't have to 'drum-up' work. We needed a new deck and our tile guy required 'flashing' to protect the new deck tile from absorbing water and the room below it. Tom Lee Roofing did all of the flashing and water-proofing...GREAT JOB. Here are the most important parts of hiring this company: They let you know right off how busy they are. They show up exactly when they say they will be there. The job took 1.5 days and that is what they said it would be. The men worked hard the entire time. Once finished, Howard came back out and looked over everything for any flaws, or mishaps. Totally thorough. Definitely worth the wait if you can! There's a wait, and it's for a reason. These folks are genuine San Franciscans doing business here and continuing the legacy of what began a generation before them. They have their hearts in the right place and they are fairly priced. You will know that you have peace of mind if you choose Tom Lee Roofing. What's most telling is that even when things did not go 100% right (cable line from internet disconnected and check was not cashed as quickly as I would have liked due to what they said was a glitch), they work in an expedited and responsive fashion to fix things. The only recommendation is to contact the owner upon completion of the job to check in and to review items related to the fact that a permit person will be arriving shortly after the job is complete. That wasn't explained to me, so a little bit more practice on closure and follow-up would be great. Roof looks great and all options were outlined to me during the job when we realized that there was more involved than what was previously quoted. They are fair and responsive. And completely professional. There are lots of roofers out there, but if you want to be worry free, choose these folks. read more

The quote was well detailed, they handled change orders effectively, and even communicated with a contractor working at my home to coordinate their schedules. Since the work was completed they have come back twice to repair the siding below the new flashing that came off during our recent heavy winds. Again, they were punctual & professional, and agreed to do the repairs under warrantee. It could have gone either way and it was generous of them to do the repairs without billing. Ultimately, my only complaint is they they just do roofing. If there were a Tom Lee Plumbing, Tom Lee Construction, Tom Lee Mechanic, etc. they would all be my first choice! read more

Awful to do business with, or at least to get a straight answer out of. The provided a quote to replace a skylight, but after repeated attempts at asking both via email and phone, refused to provide details of what was included in the quote, like if hauling off my old skylight was included, as their competitors did, so I could compare apples to apples. Similarly they suggested $1300 of roof maintenance, but refused to say what maintenance was included in that $1300. They may or may not do good work, but they certainly do not seem on the up and up when they don't wish to provide standard details on what is or in not included in their "quotes". They stated they were unable to provide such details, but seeing as how every other quote I received did provide those details, why are they not able to? The fact is they are able to, they just don't wish to be transparent or act in good faith. read more

We looked at the roof and he suggested performing repairs in certain areas from where the leaks most likely originating. It was a few weeks before it was my turn on their schedule, so don't delay if you need roofing repairs. The company is in demand. The crew is professional and obviously knows what they're doing. They knew the task at hand and did the job in one day without me having to get involved. Saying they were easy to work with is an understatement. They also replaced my gutters and installed a new skylight. All of which look and work beautifully. I'm writing this six weeks after the work was done.
