This exchange is pretty big compared to other bases I have shopped at throughout the country! They have everything you need and good deals and no tax! Veterans are allowed to shop here too, not just active duty. There is a big food court and outside the exchange they have a few food trucks as well. Staff is friendly and helpful, very busy even on weekdays! read more

BX is pretty nice, food court is decent but the vendors in the foyer are terrible!!! This one called Shania Stone Jewelry has a 13 year old holding down the fort, wearing a swim top, has absolutely no clue about any of the stones or the jewelry... it's way overpriced and she was annoyed because I disturbed her from her reading!! I purchased my new washer and dryer from the Exchange at Ft. Sam House and the process couldn't have been any smoother! This Exchange store is definitely much smaller compared to other ones across the country. With that being said, they have a very limited selection of items but they can also check their system for other models at other locations. My husband and I got our new washer and dryer from the Exchange, since most stores (Home Depot, Lowes, etc) had a 1-2 month wait on most of their washer and dryers. The great thing about the Exchange is that you don't have to pay taxes AND you can also do price match (which we did). The only reason why I am giving them 4 stars is because we payed for their delivery and installation option, and it was the worst experience! The guys that delivered our items had no freaking idea on how to install it properly. They ended up scratching my walls and destroying the floor from my new house (yes, they did that). The delivery option costs $200, but at the end I had to hire someone else to come and install it properly, PLUS fix all the issues the delivery people caused. Which obviously ended up being more than $200. Anyhow! I would recommend the Exchange to buy appliances and furniture, but skip the nightmare of the delivery. read more

Fort Sam Houston Exchange is a smaller Facility than other Exchange Stores in Military Bases. Nevertheless, it has anything you may need. This is the PX so basically a nicer bit overpriced Walmart without the groceries. This is the place where you may use your Military Star Card buy toiletries, a gift for your mom, civilian clothes and pt shoes. This is where your kids Nautica clothes sets are super affordable but cleaning supplies are way over priced. As many Exchange Stores in Military Bases this is where you may find all trainees with their different belt colors (according to their phases) enjoying some free time and acting scared that you may be a DS. Anyway, same old Exchange store you may find anywhere else. Food court again it is small but still offers the basic places such as Burger King, Subway, Charleys, and others. Barbershop outside, Gamestop, etc.. No Starbucks thou. read more

Went to exchange an Xmas gift and find some pants for my daughter. That was a challenge since a number of them were the distressed (cut) ones and then they snuck in another weird style (ankle length) just looks like pants you outgrew. Always exciting to try and find clothes for the current season because they're on clearance so put all over the place. read more

Fort Sam Houston's exchange has staff that is completely unprofessional. A supervisor, Michael, was completely unprofessional and attempted everything in his power to ensure we did not return a pair of shoes that were worn for less than 100 steps. he made us clean the bottoms of the and told my partner that we couldn't return shoes all day when she decided to buy a new pair from the exchange. I would never recommend anyone visit the base exchange at fort Sam Houston. Totally unacceptable. read more

Never again. It is not worth it. As a typical military family we have shopped at the different exchanges from coast to coast. For the most part they have nice and friendly staff and make an honest effort to assist. We moved to San Antonio after selling our stuff, hence we didn't have the basics like a couch or a dining table. The staff at the furniture dept. were not easily found and when we did find one, she acted like we were being inconvenient by asking her questions. A long conversation resulted in her telling us to buy a dining table online. So we placed the order and the real nightmare began. Online specified delivery would occur between 3-7 days. On the 7th day we called and they stated it takes about 21 days for it to ship and another 2 weeks for delivery. Once I explained that we couldn't wait that long and we rather cancel. She told us we couldn't and we should just return it when it's delivered w/ a possible restocking fee, I insisted that it be cancel and they finally did. For this to happen I had to speak to 5 different people including online chat person and a manager. The manager finally admitted some people didn't know what hey we're doing and that they were just "winging it." The worst is that every person I spoke to was condescending and think they they provide good customer service by saying "ma'am" at the end of each sentence. I have never felt so frustrated or mistreated when furniture shopping. No sales tax, definitely does not compensate for my experience. read more

Excellent experience at Ft Sam Spa. The owner Trey is always willing and able to work with your timeline and trey goes above and beyond to ensure you get a great experience. If you are a walk-in and the Spa is extremely busy trey will also do his best to fit you in. As for the massage specialists I have had Malynda and Mary, they are excellent for deep tissue massages. So much so that my wife needed a deep tissue on short notice and Trey was able to fit my wife in. My experience at the Ft Sam Spa has been nothing but excellent. On Sunday May 11,2013, I made an appointment for my wife at the Ft. Sam Houston Spa. Upon arrival, my wife was told that she would be given a classic manicure and pedicure. The small room she was taken to smelled of strong products and there was no circulation. There was a small fan on the floor that the technician would turn towards herself. The door was often closed. The music was not that of relaxation, it was more hip hop. Some of the language was not appropriate for Spa Treatment. The technician had long black hair and it would fall into the work area when she was doing the manicure. My wife also notice the technicians hair in the towels. The technician fingernails had to have had fake nails about an inch long which prevented her from doing her job properly. How do you work on someone's hands and toes with those extra long finger nails? The bottles at her station and at all the stations are old and dirty. The rims of the bottles are dripping of the products. The cleanliness of the work stations need cleaning and replacing. What was really interesting was the office personnel, the male receptionist, I guess would walk back and forth into the work area with a plastic pitcher to fill up an electric roaster and at one point said, "We are having hot water problems." The manicure was not acceptable due to the lack of cleanliness and also the way she did the manicure. By the time she was done, my wife had several products on her arms and had to go to the sink to was it all off. Oil, Clay, and a Scrub. Her previous experiences (and she has had many manicures) did not require almost a bath to get it all off. Now for the pedicure, the technician discussed my wife's toes and said that something must have happened to her toes prior to birth. The technician also said she forgot what she was doing and put the clay that is used on hands on my wife's feet. Let me tell you, her feet are very dry as she got clay and nothing else. Also, the water that she soaked my wife's feet in was the same water that she rinsed her feet in - and of course, the water from the roaster! As you can see, I feel that this should be investigated by your staff. Furthermore, I do not believe that your medical standings would allow such an outrage to continue at your base. Finally, when I went to pay for my wife's manicure and pedicure, the bill became $58 and the male reception recommended I add tip because that's how the technician gets paid. So, the $40 classic manicure and pedicure became a $58 bill and I was also told that they spent 2 hours (1 hour on manicure and 1 hour on pedicure) interesting because it was 4:00 and the appointment was at 3:00... she did not even ask for her nails to be colored ... for mother's day, the extra treatment was supposed to be hot wax to the manicure, but I was told on the phone once home, that my wife didn't request it, therefore, did not receive it.
