I took my tortoise in a few weeks ago to the Mesa location for an eye infection. They gave me injectable meds and told me to follow up in two weeks which I did but with the Phoenix location as it's a bit closer (I drive almost a 3hr round trip to come here depending on traffic). The eye had little change except for a yellow scab and a little less red. The vet recommended the same treatment for two more weeks. I asked if that was appropriate since there was little change in the eye and she said yes. Anyway going home my engine overheated and I had to pull over a while. I had been told to keep the meds out of light but they didn't need to be kept cold. When I got home I left the stuff in the car while I got my tortoise in. When I came out and got the meds all the syringes were leaking and empty. Called the vet office and had to drive the trip again the next day (as they didn't have much of a solution for me), they charged me another $142. This time I brought ice packs as it DOES have to be kept cool in this weather. I sure wish they knew that the first time but apparently it's my fault and I had to take the cost. We are now 9 more days into the same treatment and his eye looks the same. So unless there is a miracle, I will have injected my tortoise for weeks with no change. I'll be seeing a different vet office for his follow up. I'm almost $600 in with this hospital and no better off. They also asked me to send a picture of his eye in but no response from them. Also some syringes have less meds in than others of the same type. Just a sad experience from a customer perspective. read more

The staff were all very kind and professional! The whole place is very clean. They were gentle with my ferrets and very knowledgeable on care and even gave me tips on care for them! The vaccines my boys got went well so no complaints about the care of my ferrets. My only thing is, they seem to be a bit more expensive than other exotic vets? I paid way too much for 2 vaccines for each of my boys! I will still be returning for further care, just going to be expecting to spend a little more than I would've thought :) read more

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET! It was my first time coming here and will be my last. At the front desk the worker 'Mariah' is very rude and has a bad attitude, I already didn't feel welcoming or compassion from this place. The assistants handled my pet aggressively and bills and prices were the first thing I was hit with when coming into the exam room, the employees and doctors didn't care about my pets critical health and just wanted money and obviously I couldn't afford it and they didn't even care to work with me about payments. I asked if I could take my pet and find another vet and the assistants tried guilting me and making me feel like I would be killing my pet if I left and that 'it's against medical advice'. After paying thousands of dollars and trying to work out a plan, I was able to take my pet home and I had to go to another vet and received better care there then here. The doctors here only cared about money and wanted to put down my pet even though my pet had a chance to fight. This place has left me traumatized and hurt and I hope people are careful when coming here and I hope the workers are more kind and trained better when handling animals and how they talk to the owners. The other vet I visited was able to help me more and give me better options and medication that this place couldn't. Please seek other vets if you can. read more

I've been bringing my pet chickens to AZEAH for years now and can't say enough good things about this group! I used to go to their Mesa office but moved a few years ago so switched to this location since it's closer to my new house. I'm grateful for the knowledge, expertise and TLC that the doctors and technicians show my pets. It's never fun coming to the animal hospital with a sick pet, but everyone here does their best to put us all (humans and animals) at ease. I appreciate that my concerns are listened to and the doctors don't rush when explaining their diagnosis and treatment plan. There are no surprise bills at the end of a visit as all pricing is discussed upfront. My one complaint is it's hard to get squeezed in same day when an issue pops up, but they do take emergency walk-ins for things that can't wait. read more

Very good, caring doctors. I especially love Dr. Hannah Attarian. She has done everything in her power to help heal our ducks and geese when her assistance has been necessary. She brings up every option available. I had no idea cold laser therapy was available to avian patients. Getting medications refilled is never a hassle. Dr. Attarian has even referred us to an avian cardiologist for a baby goose with a heart condition. Dr. Attarian is extraordinarily skilled at splinting the legs/feet of ducks & geese in a manner that will best facilitate healing. I did take off one star because there have been difficulties, at times, getting the front desk to pick up the phone and/or return phone calls timely. This is a rarity though, and they are extremely busy much of the time. This is more the exception than the rule. They also have a fantastic medically supervised boarding program which we have utilized at a reasonable cost. They even did cold therapy laser sessions during my duck's stay. In the unfortunate event that your animal passes away, they are sympathetic to the extent that I actually received a card from Dr. Attarian when one of her patients was killed by a predator. read more

Whole appointment took about an hour (they were a little phone busy and i had paperwork to do) but they took such good care of my beardie with an eye issue!! We have been going to Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital since we adopted Sunshine 7 1/2 years ago. They are always the definition of professionalism and caring for our feathered boy This is the first time we have taken Azul since adopting him 9 months ago. We wanted to give him time to acclimate to bring with us and Sunshine. As well as growing in his confidence and improving his quality of health. In addition, we knew we wanted to have his open steel leg band removed but that it would probably require anesthesia, so that was another reason to make sure he was as healthy as possible before we did that. Both our boys passed their Well Check-ups with flying colors We also went ahead with removing his leg band and Azul did great!! Now he is free of that terrible leg band that caused him so much stress and anxiety, he would naw on it when he was anxious and had actually worn a small groove into his lower beak because of it. This place ROCKS!!! I have had my Cockatoo Marilyn for well over 30 years and am very particular as to who treats her, they have to be the best. Not just normal Avian Vets but the DABVP Avian, Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners and this place has 2. Yes, these specialists can be more expensive than regular Avian vets but for me I dont mind paying for the best care. I originally met Dr. Pilny years back at ACCESS Specialty Hospital in Culver City, where he cared for her and I loved the attention to detail he provided my little girl. When I found out that he had left I was sad because I, as well as Marilyn really liked him. After moving to AZ a few years back I needed to find her another DABVP Avian vet for her. During my research I was very pleased to find that Dr. Pilny had relocated to this establishment. Recently my girl was not acting quite normal so I called down and was lucky to find that Dr. Pilny had an open appointment that day. I drove the 90 miles down for her appointment. Dr. Pilny met me with a handshake and hug and remembered Marilyn. He then did his exam, said she seemed fine but recommended blood work to be sure nothing else was going on, of course I said yes. The blood work came back within 36 hours and Dr. Pilny contacted me stating that all "Her Complete Blood Counts and Biochemistry Profile results came back completely normal and pretty perfect" Great Staff, The Best Doctors that really care, what more could a person ask for? We just moved to AZ from Texas and my little Veiled Chameleon had a swollen ankle we needed checked out. From the moment I called the clinic the receptionist was SO friendly and empathetic, I knew I chose the right place. We've been to the vet with him before but never a clinic specializing in exotic pets. Let me tell you.. In addition to having the sweetest demeanor, these people know what they're doing. I had so many questions and concerns and everyone from Karisma and Emily at the front desk to our Tech Alexis and especially Dr. Attarian were incredibly knowledgeable and professional. I had a limited budget for what was suggested, they helped me develop a financially cautious plan and were so transparent about cost AND why certain services were recommended. The front reception were very friendly, however, they said they emailed receipt and discharge paperwork and I never got it. I even emailed them and requested they reply with the items and got no reply. That knocked them down a star for me. I appreciate the vets assessment and options with prices. I love my Buddy and want the best for him. But a $1000 to have my Guinea Pig's eye removed was not realistic. I was not made to feel guilty about that and was given some alternatives that kept my little guy comfortable and with a good quality of life. Get a wellness visit for my bird. Vet said that my bird was heathy but stress. Performed a grooming just after that and get my Bird cardiac arrest. Denied the scream and the stress of my baby while grooming. They should know better and stop. They try to resuscitated him but no luck. Left the hospital in shock, heartbroken and full of tears with my death baby. Got a phone call not even 24H after saying that i didn't pay my bill when i left. They even not asked me how i am doing and sorry for this unfortunate situation. My post is Not about the money, it's about the respect and heartless they behaved with me. We needed help with a leopard gecko & we received excellent care and our little one is all healed up.

Beware!!!! I took my 6 year old Leopard Gecko to this hospital. 2 days later she was dead. They took her into an examination room and treated her for shed in his eyes. It took about an hour. They talked me into buying medications they said he needed. My total bill was around $500.00. I took him home and gave him a bath and gave him the medication exactly as I was told. The next morning there was blood (a lot of blood) all over the bottom of his home. I picked him up and looked at his bottom. It was cut open and parts were hanging out. I cleaned him up and gave him his medication for the morning exactly as I was instructed. I watched him the entire day and he was very lethargic, no eating or drinking at all. I went to bed that evening and when I woke up I went directly to his home and he was dead. I called and called and no one answered the phone. I left messages with the answering service and finally got a call back from a man that said he would handle it! "Every one was so sorry" blah blah blah!! That doesn't really matter when my pet is dead because of them. I am devastated. I asked for my money back, asked what happened and no one had any answers! I have called the office several more times to request them to return my money and to this day "No one" has called me back and "no money" has been returned to me. Stay away from this place. Not customer oriented and they truly do not care about you or your pet!! I do not write reviews often but I have to! I do not want this to happen to you or your precious pets! read more

The doctor came in and was so reassuring about treating my little buddy. Prices were explained right up front, very helpful. The staff handled my bird like he was there own. My tortoise had a very slight bubbly nose starting Friday night. It wasn't too bad, but he hasn't eaten or pooped since Sunday. Monday was our vet appointment. I came here because of a recommendation a few months ago from the vet I take my dogs to. I actually called them this morning to share my poor experience and they said they no longer recommend them and told me about another place. Dr. Pilny was actually really nice and informative. He said our husbandry was great and that he didn't need any supplements. He said our tortoise looked great except for the potential breathing/respiratory issue. He instructed me to watch over my tortoise for a few days and see if he gets better or worse. Wednesday came around and his breathing had gotten worse so I called and asked for the next steps. The lady on the phone (I believe her name was Michelle) told me she'd ask the doctor and call me back. I waited a few hours and sent an email over because it seemed like they forgot about me. Someone responded to my email saying they'd talk to Dr. Pilny and would get back to me. I got a call about an hour after that and was given the option of blood work or antibiotic shots. I asked for more info about them but the person didn't know which was better and said it was up to me. I said let's do the shots and confirmed they'd be ready for me by the end of the day, she said yes. 5pm came around and I still didn't receive a response. My husband called and they said they didn't have a record of any antibiotics being ordered. If I didn't call myself I guess I would of gotten no response. They also said Dr. Pilny went home at noon so he couldn't of been talked to. The office staff seems to be extremely disorganized and not on the same page at all. They did end up calling me after closing time and said they would have the medicine ready for me first thing in the morning. However, curiosity got the best of me and I decided to go through their online reviews. On google review multiple people have said their pet died immediately after treatment from this place. There's even a review from 3 days ago where someone's tortoise died and the owner of this place "Ericka J" responded very unprofessionally and probably made the person feel even worse about their beloved pet dying. The cherry on top is the one star review from yesterday where the person said it smells like dog crap (admittedly probably a troll) and Ericka responded with "you spend too much time in dogs buttholes". That one sentence from the business owner should be enough for everyone to know how unprofessional this place is. Safe to say I won't be coming back to this place. read more

All I can say is this place has seriously gone downhill since I first started going there soon after it first opened. It has become all about the money and not about the pet care. The staff acts like it would rather be anywhere but there which as a vet tech is always a red flag. My bird did not receive the care she needed and died 6 days later. I never got a call from the doctor to see how she was doing. When the lab work came in she emailed it to me (which I didn't see until 2 days after that and the bird was dead by then)and never called me directly. The lab work showed a very critically ill bird which always deserves a direct call to the owner. Birds can hide issues until they cant anymore and they can deteriorate quickly. Why they use a lab that takes so long to get the results to them is beyond me. They also claimed they could not reach me the day she was in. When I finally called because I knew they were getting ready to close the only thing they seemed to care about was I was now going to be charged an overnight hospitalization fee. My cell phone number has never changed and yet I never received a single phone call from the clinic the entire day to let me know my bird could go home. Somehow that was my fault and I now had to pay for it. I don't mind paying for good quality pet care, but when all you keep talking about is the money and the care the pet receives is subpar that's a problem. I haven't seen a familiar face there in many years which tells me that the people who work there are tired of this problem as well. read more

I'm giving this office two stars because while the veterinarian and tech were very professional and helped my lizard and the reception staff is also very friendly and welcoming, I have been waiting two months for a refund for a loan that was set up per advertising they had on the walll in the exam room, that they apparently no longer accepted. So not only did I have to pay out of pocket for treatment that same day. I also paid $450 to a synchrony set pay loan, and have yet to hear from anyone on when I will receive my money back for that loan. read more

We moved to Phoenix over a year ago and I was so concerned about finding good vet care for my bunnies. As a rabbit rescuer out of state for over 10 years I have medically challenging bunnies. We had wonderful vet care in our previous home and it was hard to let that go. That said, we connected with Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital right away and are so blessed for the exceptional care there. I am also so grateful for the dignity and love that was given when I lost a couple of my bunnies. When one of our bunnies showed distress at 11 pm I called and rushed her to Mesa where they loved and cared for her all night. Sadly, she didn't make it but that is no reflection on the staff. She got sick suddenly and both sides did everything we could Pet care is a partnership and it takes both sides working together. I have always been treated with the greatest of care and respect. Being able to take my bird to a doctor that knows birds is such a relief. I appreciate so much that Dr. Lamb did the physical exam in front of me and explained what she was noticing; I prefer this over places that just take your pet to a different room and leave you wondering. I felt cared for and listened to and, more importantly, I felt that my feathered best friend was appreciated and in good hands. (The fact that the doctor was able to do xrays without sedation was another huge relief! It can be so dangerous with little birds, especially when they're already doing poorly) I appreciate that AZEAH has a board certified avian medicine specialist on staff; I'm willing to take a long roadtrip for this kind of care, experience, and knowledge. read more

Took my turkey in this weekend that got attacked by a dog. I understand the "emergency" visit fee being high as it was not a scheduled visit. What I don't like is, the vets and techs told me the wounds were healable and gave Turkey a great prognosis. They gave a me a full treatment plan and even had me go fill the meds at the pharmacy(which actually weren't the same meds the dr talked to me about which was kind of weird). While doing this they gave the bird fluids and cleaned her wounds. After cleaning the wounds they then told me the wounds were too extensive and likely not manageable for the bird (which they originally said opposite). I spend almost 6 hrs at the vet so by the time this was all over I wanted out of there. Ultimately we had to put the turkey to sleep. I just want to know why you would give a bird fluids before cleaning the wounds of the bird and then realizing the wounds are too extensive. That seems like a money grab in my opinion. Overall my experience was poor (as I said it seemed like they just wanted to do all the things for that money grab). The only reason I am giving a 2 star is because the staff was nice. Wouldn't recommend coming to this place in an emergency or at all really - the vets that try to get all the money out of you are not high quality, in my opinion. read more

Around Thanksgiving, my rabbit fractured his leg. The splint that was initially put on didn't work, so I was recommended by the Mesa location to go over to the Phoenix location where Dr. Pilny could pin my rabbit's fractured bone. I am writing this with tears running down my eyes because I'm incredibly grateful that I got to meet Dr. Pilny and his crew. Words can't describe how thankful I am. During this long process and a time of uncertainty, Dr. Pilny was always by my side. He consistently maintained a positive, can-do attitude that often calmed me down. What I appreciate the most is that he would ask for home care updates and reply to emails nearly instantly whenever I had a question. From this whole experience, I've learned that nothing medically related can guarantee a good outcome, but it is important to have a doctor as knowledgeable as Dr. Pilny, who took his time to explain and answer every question just to make it easy for people like me to understand. I know that Dr. Pilny is truly passionate about his job, and I think that is one major factor that contributed to the successful healing of my rabbit's leg. read more
