I bought a new A/C unit from Expert Air in June 2016. My old unit went out (16 years) and I was just diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. They gave me a great deal on a new one and was installed in June 2016. They have a great maintenance plan on their units. You get two service checks in a year. They check everything on your A/C unit and before it gets cold they check your furnace. And if you call in with a problem you are put on top of the list. I picked up a used True refrigerator that I was looking to get running. It seemed to turn on but just wasn't getting cold at all. I noticed these guys were right around the corner from me so I called and asked if I could drop it off and the lady on the phone said they would have a technician stop by and take a look. OK, Great. Thursday 6/13 a very nice gentleman from their company stopped by and took a look at it. He started taking it apart and ended up with the diagnosis that it would cost around $1000 to fix, if not more. The fridge isn't worth that so I said that I would just hold off on fixing at this time. He gathered his tools and puts them back in his van.He then walks back in with a $117 bill for a diagnosis on said refrigerator. Wait, what? I was NEVER told there was a charge, nor would I have EVER agreed to pay $117 to diagnose a fridge that wasn't worth much to me anyway. I would have simply told the lady on the phone to cancel my appointment and I would figure something else out. I feel as though I was taken advantage of and a full disclosure was not given before they came out. From one business owner to another, this is a terrible way to conduct business. Got my electric bill for August, generally the highest bill of the year, and felt like I'd won the lottery! This month's bill, $108.66, more than $100 difference from previous years (see history below)! This August was a tiny bit cooler than the last couple years but I've also been running my new AC a LOT cooler than what I could/would run the old one. We were expecting company around noon on a Monday and of course the A/C went out Sunday afternoon. We didn't even attempt to find anyone until Monday morning and the first few places we called gave us an estimate of when they could come out from 24 to 72 hours. We contacted Expert Air and they had someone out within two hours and after finding a capacitor burned out, had our A/C back on in no time. The Technician also spent a little extra time and cleaned out the accumulated debris. The charges were very, very reasonable and we would recommend them to anyone. read more

I had a leak and was unsure of where the water was coming from. I was able to contact Expert Air and the gentleman was at the house within an hour. (After Hours call) I had a clogged drain line that was very easily fixed. Additionally, he took the time to explain to me a few preventative maintenance items. I was very thankful. Terrible customer service and follow-up. Emailed, called and basically begged for service. Had it scheduled twice and each time they cancelled and then after all of that bad customer service, I was then told they didn't know when they could get to the work? What kind of business puts you on the schedule, cancels on you and then takes you off the schedule and can not even give you an estimate on when they might actually come out to provide service??? Terrible! Too many other good companies here in Austin area. Not sure how they came up with their name but it is anything but "expert". Would not recommend at all. They may be great once they arrive, but don't hold your breath waiting.... read more

I am very satisfied with my experience with expert air. I got a thermostat I had muddled with reinstalled and I had a bad fuse on my inside unit that the service guy found right away. He said that my drain line was also clogged and I could buy some draino and run a close hanger down it myself or that he would blow it out for me but it would add to the bill. Being a man of modest means I chose the cheaper route. About an hour later when the A/C stopped working I called him and asked if he could come back. He asked me if I had fixed the clog in the drain and then explained to me that it was probably causing the float switch to stop the A/C running. He said he could come back and blow it out for me but that it would cost more since he had already left. I jammed a coat hanger down there a few times and problem solved! My bill was only a $107 and the service guy really seemed to care about helping me out. read more

On a recent Saturday evening, I realized my AC wasn't blowing cold air. I called my usual service company, and when I didn't get a call back for and hour and a half, I called Expert Air and Refrigeration - or perhaps I should say "texted" per their web site. Within a minute or 2, i was told a tech would call soon. About 10 minutes later, the tech called and said he could be here in half an hour. The tech was very knowledgeable and diagnosed the problem almost immediately. In a few minutes, he was able to replace the parts (lucky for me he had exactly what was needed on the truck), and I was seeing the temperature drop in my home by the time he left. Funny thing was, the tech usually works in the commercial side of the business, and he didn't know what to charge me. He called a colleague who provided the price. I told him I'd gladly pay the amount since he'd completed the work, but I thought it was a little on the high side (having had similar work performed in the past). I know what others charge for parts and their emergency service fee (or trip charge). I paid it - end of story. Or so I thought. The following Monday when they were back in the office, Jenna called to tell me that 1) my credit card had not been run yet and 2) the amount charged was too high. When she provided the new amount, it was precisely in line with expectations. When was the last time A/C repair called to tell you they charged you too much? For me, this was a first. Bottom line: quality work and business integrity of Expert has given me a new GO TO company for A/C repairs. read more

I have used them a few times. I had a new system put into my house in June '11. Their initial quote was slightly lower than the competition, but no matter whom you use, get quotes, and negotiate, I got it down another $1k. The 16 seer American standard unit has been fantastic. Later when I bought a different house I had them do a pre purchase inspection. They identified an issue with the system and the sellers gave us a credit to fix it. Upon the attempt to fix it they discovered the manufacturer of the part had gone out of business. They were still able to complete the work for the initial quote. I had the compressor fan motor go out the next month and replaced it for what appears to be a fair price. read more

Crooks. Stay away. $500 for a $5 part and less than 20 minutes worth of work. They admit that the part costs them $5, but insist that there is nothing wrong with charging $230 for that part. "That's what everyone in this industry does, we are no different than anyone else." Well, I hope that's not true, but steer clear of these guys, anyway. read more

Don't let this happen to you. The capacitor for my furnace blower motor on my air conditioner/ heater went out. A man came out an hour or so after I called and changed the capacitor it cost 173 dollars. I was glad at the time because I thought the problem was solved and it only took about 2 hours of my day. The next day I have the same problem. I call Expert Air & Refrigeration Services they tell me that the technician will be over again soon. 2 hours later I call back again and they tell me he is on his way he has been held up by the weather. I could understand it was really cold that day. 4 hours later the Technician still hasn't arrived but did call to let me know it would only cost 300 or so more to fix the motor because I would have a 95 dollar credit from yesterday's service.. I can't recommend this company. I paid for a service and it lasted for 1 day. I don't know much about service prices but, but I think paying 173 dollars for something that breaks the next day is high. I am a little upset that it was 173 dollars. I am more upset that it broke the next day. And I had to wait 4 hours for a response that was going to cost me another 300 dollars to repair. read more

He was also very friendly and professional. He diagnosed our problem quickly and provided our cost, then had us up and running in no time. I called and asked to have someone come out. I had a hard time getting them to come out. He gets lost on the way to my house and charges me for that time. (Name of person was Kevin) I gave specific directions. After 10-20 minutes of looking at AC, the system just turns on all by itself. Ok, he didn't do anything, but I guess I have to pay something for him coming out. He proceeds to talk about his life, ask me about my life, shows me how to hose down the outside unit, looks at my filters, takes readings of temperatures, then sits in his van for about 30 minutes. Not only does he charge for the time he got lost, he charges me for 30 minutes of travel time even though he lives 10-15 minutes away. Then he charges me for the whole time he was at my place including him sitting in his van. I didn't need him talking about filters and hoses and his life. He could have left right after the AC turned back on. So he charges me 1.5 hours for work plus 0.5 hour for travel plus all of that at time and a half for being Saturday. Total comes to $209. I asked him to lower it because he wasn't doing actual work most of the time he was here. He lowered it to $157. Still a rip off. Just the fact that he tried to charge $209 is so dishonorable. Then only lowering it to $157 was dishonorable also. Don't ever use this company, and please tell all your friends not to use them. read more
