After getting spurious quotes and unnecessary recommendations from multiple shops, we found Expert Auto Repair & Service honest, prompt, reliable, and exceptionally user-friendly. Our family recently purchased a 2017 US-made runabout with short of 100k miles for twin 15-year-olds to learn to drive and get around town and relieve their mother of taxi duties in the long run. It needed quite a bit of work to bring it up to snuff, though the base vehicle is still solid and has a lot of life left in it. We did some of the cosmetic and easy stuff (replace sun visor, engine air filter, cabin air filter, change oil) done ourselves, got the used-car dealer to fix the front sub-frame that was bent and out of alignment), and postponed some longer-term work (brakes eventually will need new pads in the rear). But this 1.8L "interference" engine will be destroyed if the timing belt fails, and they recommend replacement every 100k miles, so we asked this shop to put replace the belt, water pump, and thermostat so the twins won't have to deal with catastrophic engine failure when on the road as new drivers. They not only did that and replaced the rear struts (leaking) with the new ones I had shipped to us, but they did it in around a day of shop time. The car was ready far sooner than we expected, and everything was in perfect order. This shop is also part of the network the used car dealer employs for its own warranty work, so the car is covered in case anything unexpected turns up in the next year. Top marks! read more

This has got to be the BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE I'VE EVER HAD at an auto mechanics shop. I was traveling through Sante Fe with a friend when her engine light went on. We looked for a place to get the jeep looked at and this auto shop answered right away and said we could bring in the vehicle then and there. I was shocked. Too good to be true. I have never had a bad experience and have had many good conversations while having my car serviced. If you have need repairs, you will know what Dave needs to do, how long it will take, and a good estimate of what it will cost when you leave your car with them. If you need towing, a rental car, an alignment, or other services they don't provide - Nancy knows who to call. If your car is in for regular service, you can wait in a comfortable room with lots of good reading material and good art. It is their advice and excellence of execution that matters. They (initially Steve, now Nancy and Dave) will not hesitate to tell you what needs to be done and, more importantly, what does NOT need to be done. And they'll give you a straightforward estimate. As an example, I once made the mistake of going to JiffyLube for an oil change. After the job we had an oil drip onto our garage floor. Never happens with Expert. They regularly replace the plug gasket with an oil change. In terms of cost, they may be a bit more expensive than the cheapest, but always reliable and trustworthy. You get what you pay for. While alive, Steve Case provided reliable and honest service. After Steve's death, Dave assumed the role as head mechanic, and he, like Steve, is a whiz. Dave has figured out and corrected the most annoying problems that my car has had. Nancy Case has assumed the leadership of this business with great professionalism and aplomb. Her customer service is wonderful. She makes sure that the client's car gets fixed quickly and correctly, and she makes sure that the client leaves satisfied. I was referred to this shop for an oil change. Very clean waiting area and Nancy, the owner of the shop, was very talkative and inviting. But when the bill came I was surprised by the charge. $60 WITH a 10% discount. I have lived in Santa Fe for over 15 years and have paid $40 on average for my oil changes. She also stated that they used synthetic oil therefore cost was higher. This was my first red flag as I should have been asked beforehand if I wanted synthetic or not. I left figuring I would go back to my guys over at Hadley oil who charge $25 less and ask before they do anything different. But the next time I drove my car the check engine light was on. I called Nancy and let her know, she said to come right in. I spent about 15-20 min in the nice waiting area with Nancy coming in and out asking questions like "did the person who did my last oil change change the oil filter?" huh? Next thing I know Nancy walks in saying that "normally we would charge $100 for something like this..." My mouth dropped open as I did not think they would charge me anything! She slapped a bill on the counter for $32 acting as though she was giving me a break just like she did with the 10% off my oil change. I questioned her and she questioned me asking if I think everything is free and do I pay my doctor?!? I asked her why she didn't tell me beforehand that I would be charged...She proceeded to talk over me saying that I need to get my car in and fixed asap and they can get me in in the next couple of days to change a coil and she will take the $32 off the bill for that. I said, no, I will be taking my car to my mechanic for a second opinion. She scoffed and said he is going to tell me the exact same thing. I left feeling taken advantage of and bullied. I drove over to my mechanic Rick at Toyotech. He was unable to diagnose it since the check engine light was now off. Rick told me not to worry; that it would come right back on if there was a problem. Told me to drive around and see if it comes back on and he will check it, free of charge. My check engine light has not come back on since. It has been 4 days now. I do not recommend Expert Auto and will not be referring anyone to go there! read more

I have been to shops around town and I try and work with locally owned and operated business ONLY! I went into the shop and right away felt the owner was rude and I immediately wanted to walk out. But they are one of my clients so I put that aside and decided to do business with them anyway. When I took my car in to get the air conditioning fixed. I said "My air conditioner DOES NOT work and I need help asap with this issue. My brakes are squiky but that is not my concern just get the a/c working." I left my car there for the entire day (which ment I was car-less). When I went to pick up my car he said he wasn't able to fix the a/c but he did an entire break check (WHAT?!?!). So no working a/c and then he charged me $170 for the brake check. WTF!!! no car all day, no fixed a/c and horrible CS. I do have to say that he did an amazing very detailed job in checking MY BREAKS. But said my a/c would take more time and that it would be a science experiment to try and fix it b/c it wasn't an easy fix. I won't be going back and I won't be reffering anyone there in the future. read more
