After having a terrible experience with Luna/Empire and getting the majority of my money back (I'd give them no stars but since I didn't have to take them to court my complaint will remain on this review) I decided to give Exploring Flooring a try. Slightly more affordable, 1000% more honest, and friendly. I worked with Tom and don't rember names of people who did the work but everything was great. If you want an extra box of flooring make sure you ask for it before they deliver the wood/laminate/vinyl for your project or you may need to pay shipling for it. read more

Exploring Flooring installed all of our carpet back in 2010. It's still going strong in 2026. We had it done on stairs, all bedrooms, and living room. When our puppy did too many accidents in our upstairs area, we replaced the hallway and master bedroom with Kardean Luxury Vinyl Tile. At the time, Exploring Flooring did not glue down LVT and only had the lock down type, so we used another company. We love the livability and washability of Luxury Vinyl Tile. Our friend who installs these floors commercially recommended the Kardean brand and to do the glue down version. He was spot on. Recently, I had a measuring done to either refinish our downstairs cherrywood floors or cover them with Kardean vinyl. Tom came out right away but got confused as to my email address. I think they need a company email address, because we played a bit of email tag trying to communicate. Some things that I wonder about. The other company that came out was willing to fix up some not so great areas with new cherrywood trim--ie around half bath vanity that has bare gap areas at bottom and fp that has a very large gap around it (EF said for me to use some type of expandable filler but I think that will be ugly in a inch or more gap). EF also said they don't install new quarter round trim around floor which is a nice touch another place does as standard. You could always hire it out, I suppose. The cherrywood trim pieces is more of an issue for me. Exploring Flooring's quote for refinishing our cherrywood is around $900 less than the other place, so I guess it equals out. The other place wanted $5400 for about a 530 square foot area, so I thought that was a bit pricey. Exploring Flooring is $4500. As far as luxury vinyl quote to glue down Kardan on top of the hardwood, I'm still waiting, but the quote to float Kardean tile on top of the existing floor (an option, but not my fav) is the same as the other company. However, no particular type of Kardean is mentioned, even though I requested the quote on Tergo. All in all, a bit of a hassle to get specifics, but may be a great option overall, if overall pricing is better. read more

I'll try to keep my review concise and stick to only the product and installation. As you can see from the pictures I've attached the installation was not quite what one would expect when receiving brand new carpeting. From the very first day I noticed that there were very visible and noticeable seams at literally every single area where the carpets had been joined. I have never seen anything like this and expected a more finished look. Especially seeing that a higher end carpet brand from their selection was chosen. We tried to be patient and thought maybe the carpet just needed to "settle" after the install and thought maybe after being used and vacuumed a few times it would work itself out. However it actually looks worse when vacuumed. Multiple people have come into my home and not only noticed but commented on the look of the carpeting. One of the very visible seams runs the entire length of my master bedroom right down the center. We have resorted to using furniture to try and cover it for the time being. In addition to the visible seams there are very stiff fibers from the carpet backing sticking straight up through those seams. The other issue with the install was the damage to the woodwork, baseboards, and walls in the home. We spent a great deal of time and money having the woodwork and walls refinished and there are very noticeable gouges, scrapes, and scuffs in many of the refinishes areas. All of which now have to be repaired by us. The installer had actually made comments about this to me while in the house alerting me to the issue. At first I was going to let it go and just repair them but after seeing the results of the install and after more recent issues with an employee I've decided that it's really not ok that professionals were paid to come into the home for a service in which they damaged the surrounding areas. There are pictures attached of all of these complaints. I originally wanted to go with a more reputable company that had higher grade carpet brands but we were talked into this company by a family member because they knew someone that worked there. I wish I had followed my gut and went with the other company in the first place seeing as they will now be fixing what was done and finishing the work we need in the rest of the home. If you want high end product with impeccable customer service and install I highly recommend you go with High Quality Flooring in Bolingbrook. I love my new hardwood floors from Exploring Flooring in Winfield Illinois. I also love that the wood came pre-finished with stain and poly layers that matched the sample and so had no odors or drying time. Tom Beeter is a very experienced manager level professional who worked with me on my purchase. Tom has tons on knowledge about design plus technical performance and installation topics. He obviously takes pride in providing a high end result. He's also soft spoken and not pushy at all, which I really don't care for in sales interactions. He came to my home a few times to measure and double check, and ensured that my dishwasher and fridge wouldn't be landlocked by the new flooring. I was equally impressed by Joe and his installation team - consummate professionals with tons of experience, and the dedication to provide a high end result without cutting any corners. Between Tom and Joe, I felt that I was dealing with high integrity guys who genuinely care about the customer and the job. To keep this review as balanced as possible, I'd just note that you should be prepared for sawdust with the installation of a new wood floor. You might ask about getting somewhat thicker plastic and a somewhat tighter seal over the doors to the work area. Realistically they can't do a really tight seal because they need to go in and out. All in all, I am delighted with this company and will definitely turn to them again for any future flooring needs. read more

What an awesome selection of tile, wood and carpet! The products they carry are of great quality and the selection is huge. And their prices are really competitive with just about any big box or tile stores in the area. We've used Exploring Flooring several times over the past few years and have never been disappointed their service and selection. I've tiled two bathrooms (floors and walls) and carpeted an entire level of bedrooms. Great installers - cleaned up afterwards like you'd never know they'd been there. I just had a tiled bathroom done in an older home. I could not be more happy with the help in selecting a beautiful and appropriate tile, and grout in the shop. When removing the old flooring, the installer for Exploring Flooring realized that the sub-floor was not viable. I can't stress enough what a quality job he did in making sure that the sub-floor was done properly. Once all that hard work was done, the craftsmanship of the new tile floor, and new baseboard is fantastic. A friend referred me to Exploring Flooring after I received an estimate from one if the 'big' guys. Tom came out right away on a weeknight evening even though it was a bit of a hike to Brookfield. We talked, he advised and got measurements, and had a quote for me the next day. They quoted a great price and he was so helpful and clearly understood what I was looking for. Then the guys came out to install and they were wonderful and very courteous, fast, and helpful. Finally - I recarpet some areas and could clearly see the quality difference between what the 'big guy' installed vs what I got from Exploring Flooring. We spent quite a bit of money remodeling two bathrooms about six years ago, complete gut job, all high end materials. Our contractor used this store, where we chose flooring and tile for both baths. Well, time is the best judge of any home remodeling job, because they almost all look great immediately after installation. Unfortunately, the installer did not grout and caulk properly, causing leaks from the master shower into the drywall outside. We are now faced with tearing out large sections of drywall, repairing the grout and caulk, replacing the drywall and painting the walls. I can imagine some changes after six years, but this is clearly ridiculous, and a sign of shoddy workmanship. The other thing I want to mention about our experience was that the tile salesman was really pushing us to use white grout, in spite of the fact that the color schemes in both baths are earthy, and white would have looked too bright and frankly, awful. He talked about how white is so easy to match if you ever have to regrout! Maybe that should have been a clue that their work doesn't last. I would recommend my fellow Yelpers beware of this store, but in particular, their installers. read more

we had flooring and carpeting installed in a timely manner, the job so far looks good, but trying to contact and get a reply or an answer back is almost impossible, after numerous attempts through e mail, calls and a letter attached with the final payment I have not heard from a single person with the questions that we have with the/about the installation and the names of the flooring that was laid down, no it is not on the contract, but I would think that if one wants to continue to have referrals and other work done, that they would keep an open line of communication for I thought that those involved were very nice and helpful prior to the final completion of the job, but I am disappointed that no one has the kindness to respond and it has been several months and I am still waiting and it is an important matter, and this does affect the rating for it isn't really a complete job. read more
