I went to more stores and websites than I can count looking for tile for our bathroom. No place was more helpful and knowledgeable than Cobalt! We primarily worked with Dave and he came through for us time and time again. I had a specific color scheme in mind and we needed options with a shorter lead time. He was able to help guide us to look at samples on hand for options that had local production or warehouses with supply on hand. This became even more clutch when we realized we needed more large format tiles than we initially calculated. He had it within days after making a couple calls and confirmed it was the same dye lot number! So many places want you to buy after looking at something online, but the colors are never accurate that way. This place had an immense assortment of display tiles and flooring so you know the exact color you will be getting! If you're working on any flooring or tile project I highly recommend Cobalt. This review will sound angry because it is. 7/15/2022 I signed a contract for Luxury Vinyl for $5378.00. The project was done a short time after and looked superb for a few months until the tiles started to crack and break off in a few spots. I called, and a repair was done. Shortly after we noticed several other areas where it was cracking and once again it was repaired. Dammed if it did not happen again and in some of the same areas. The foundation was not prepared correctly. That was the last time it was fixed, until several weeks ago, and another crew was sent out for repairs. Only it could not be repaired. This crew, a man and his wife, had 3 pieces, wrong color at that. He found nine places that needed repair. He called and talked to Kieth, only to find out this style was no longer manufactured. I talked to Kieth and was informed the floor was only guaranteed for 1 year. So here we are out over $5,000 with a crappy looking floor. This is BS, money is not easy to come by. I do not recommend this business, they are at fault. I had to replace the floor with another company with workmen that were diligent and did a beautiful job. During that time I have bought every type of flooring (carpet, hardwood, tile and vinyl) for both residential and commercial use and every time the quality of the product and the installation was outstanding. Cobalt will not be the cheapest price ( go to Home Depot) but I guarantee you will get the best value for your money. If you go anywhere else for your flooring, you are making a big mistake! read more

My husband and I built a new home in Barrington, and we worked with Roger on all flooring, tile, and backsplash. Roger provided expert guidance throughout this process. While our decision on the choice of hardwood stain took longer than expected, Roger was very patient. He provided endless samples, and we finally found the color that we were looking for. His installers were meticulous, both in the installation and the cleanup. We are extremely pleased with the end result. I just had carpeting installed in my kitchen and hallway. I have dogs, so I needed carpeting that would look good but also clean up well and withstand the wear and tear of pups running around on it. Roger helped me find the right carpeting and pad and I'm confident he helped me make the right choice. The installers were friendly, competent, professional and completed the job quickly. We purchased an engineered floor product from Cobalt in May 2017. The buying experience was relatively agreeable, but in hindsight, the owner pushed an inferior product. After the installation I noticed that some of the boards had imperfections (knots, rough areas) and called to have them inspect the floor. No post-installation inspection was ever done by Cobalt in the first place. The PM agreed that the boards appeared defective. After having to repeatedly call Cobalt, they sent the manufacturer's rep out to review the issue and they agreed to replaced the boards. Unfortunately, when you glue tongue and groove boards in a floor, the replacement is a process requiring someone skilled. Cobalt sent someone out and they replaced the boards. After removing the articles that clamped the new boards, I saw that the replacement boards were warped and not level with the rest of the floor. Again, I had to call Cobalt. This time the owner told me that "this is what happens." He later agreed to try and settle the issue with the manufacturer and was denied his claim that the product was inferior. Throughout this time (3 Months), the owner never initiated a call to provide an update. When I called him, he became increasingly rude and told me that I was unreasonable for wanting periodic updates. He gave me the impression that he wanted me to accept the problem and just live with it. After threatening to sue, he finally agreed to send another installer out. While the floor is not perfect, now I will live with the decision to choose a poor company for this job. This business does not care for its customers. In all fairness, the PM was generally helpful , but the owner should give serious consideration to changing his attitude when faced with a problem. read more

I worked with Roger and he gave me an amazing deal on carpet for my family room. The installers only took one hour to install my wall to wall carpeting and vacuum. Roger has done alot of work in our house. He has installed carpeting in all of our bedrooms. The selections process was very easy and he made wonderful suggestions for a good, durable carpet. We love it all. He is also lined up to redo our fireplace front to a stacked stone which he has a great selection to choose from. He is also going to put new ceramic tile throughout our first floor. They are a wonderful company, very trust worthy and they truly stand by their products. I would highly recommend them read more

Dealing with Roger the owner of Cobalt flooring in West Chicago, was the worst retail experience we have ever had. Roger was nice in the beginning of me stopping in the store, but when he delivers the wrong carpet, he turns rude and mean. We had a very nice salesman come to our home, measure and we selected carpet. Placed the order within days of meeting with the sales person. When our carpet did not come in within the 2 weeks we were quoted, I called Cobalt. Roger told me that the carpet was delayed by the holidays. (later I learned that Roger had held the order by 2 weeks, hoping he could package it with someone else's order). When the carpet was delivered by the installers, I knew immediately it was the wrong carpet, the quality was very poor and cheap. The installers called the store and a different sales person Keith come to our home with the carpet sample board. Keith placed the carpet board up against our floor moldings and it was pretty good (although still not the carpet thickness or height was had chosen), then he took a small piece of the carpet that had been delivered and slid it under the moldings and it was very short pile, not thick and there was a 3/4" gap between the carpet and the moldings. Keith told us that he would contact the carpet dealer. He never did. I had to call several times into the store b/c I didn't hear back from Cobalt. With an uneasy feeling I filed a complaint with my credit card company. Once I spoke with Roger, he was rude, mean, condescending and told me my moldings were installed wrong. Those floor moldings have been in this house for 20 years. (the sales person we had ordered from left the company b/c of "unethical" business practices by Roger). I finally went into Cobalt and met with Roger myself - I stood my ground and he offered to sell us another carpet and take our deposit and apply it to the "new" selection. He did quote it, but was 3 times higher than 3 other quotes I went out and received from 3 other dealers. A week later, my husband and I both went into see Roger and he told us, he would order the other carpet and possibly take the one he originally delivered and maybe use it in our basement. I asked him for a small piece of the carpet to take home and look at in the basement and he refused to give it to me. Roger told us, we had "forfeited our rights to the carpet and to our deposit of $2100.00". The only reason a person would refuse to give you a sample of merchandise is if the merchandise isn't what we had ordered. We did win with the credit card company, the full amount of our deposit was credited back to our account and Roger's merchant account and bank account were frozen - this information came to us in writing from Citi Bank.
