Don is a no nonsense, legit mechanic who fixed up my car in a few hours after towing it over with no advanced notice and charged only $800 for what the dealership was asking $6,000 for (which included unnecessary work). He was a serious lifesaver and seems scrupulously honest and fair in pricing, he probably should be charging more for what he offers. I went here for an oil change and a checkup before a long road trip.  I ended up getting a new battery I didn't ask for.  They asked me if they could "check" my battery.  I said yes.  My "yes" was for *checking* the battery, not replacing it.  When it came time for me to pay the bill, I found a new battery had been installed.  I did not ask for or consent to a new battery being installed - I could have bought and installed one myself for a lot less money.   I agreed to have them adjust my brakes.  I had just had a brand new set of tires installed two days previously, and the wheels were perfectly balanced from that new tire installation, the car drove smooth as glass.  After they finished adjusting my brakes, the car shuddered significantly at low speeds, especially when braking.  This shuddering diminished after driving a few miles, but the car still shudders somewhat when braking to a stop.     They also forgot to re-install one of my hubcaps and I had to go back next day and get it.  On the road trip that followed, I lost two hubcaps as they hadn't been reinstalled correctly - never had this problem before and my car has been serviced many times.  Needless to say, I won't be returning. read more

I have a 92 GMC. Went in asked how much for the smog. The nice lady behind the counter replied $100. I asked if i needed an appointment she said no. I came back within the hour and dropped off my truck. They had me park by the air pump. It's on a slight hill, i parked and applied the parking brake. I picked up my truck and was charged $100 as stated. That's why i gave a 4 star rating. Unfortunately the smog tech/mechanic didn't know how to disengage the parking on a 92 and pulled and pulled until he tore the handle out. The he put it back broken and didn't mention it. I went to AAA for my tags put the brake on and when i came out pulled the handle and it came completely out. After troubleshooting for about 15 minutes i was able to reattach the cable he broke and finally released the parking brake. First i called and the guy lied about breaking it and became argumentative ...so I went directly there and showed him how to do it and cussed him out for being a liar and not being a adult and not calling me about how to get the brake off. He gets 1 star we all have issues no excuse for not being a adult at work! read more

Now that Click & Clack are off the air, I am at the mercy of my auto mechanic. As it turns out, these guys are friendly, honest, and competent. They could have charged me a lot to diagnose and "fix" an intermittent problem - and we all know shops and dealerships who take advantage of customers - but Express Auto did not, and I'm very thankful. And the repairs they did do, are solid. E.g. when changing my wiper blades they removed some tree sap that seemed permanently embedded in my windshield, and didn't even mention it. I have been going here several times .However to my disappointment and shock Don the owner charged me double for spark plugs $29/each that even Lexus charges less at $25.00 each .I went back to speak to him he wouldn't even show me the computer screen showing his cost after claiming he purchased them at $20.00 each.After insisting I go in and look.He simply said they were $15.00 but he marked up the cost to $29.00.I paid $600.00 for a Tune up that did not include Oil change,Tire Rotation or Transmission fluid change because the first two were recently done and last one he recommended it done later.BUYER BEWARE This was my LAST visit.Definitely reporting the price gouging!!!! read more

I dropped by unannounced on a Tuesday around 2pm, and I was in & out the door in 30 min with a sweet $40 smog check all done (mention the Yelp special to get the very competitive $40 rate). This price includes the DMV certificate/report. It would've been faster (the smog check itself took less than 15 min), except they were in the middle of other auto repairs when I arrived, so there was a short wait. There is a relatively clean waiting area with a few chairs. One small gripe: the owner Don was nice enough, but I told him I forgot to bring the smog check paperwork with me... and turns out he looked in my glove compartment (without asking first) & found the info he needed. Don, the owner and the mechanic, and Ivy, his beautiful wife and the shop manager, are amazingly nice people who saved my day. Maybe a year even. I bought a car battery from O'Reilley but didn't know how to install it. The clerk recommended me to go to Express Auto. Don knew I was trying to save money by bringing my own battery, and he offered me a discounted service. Cool man. Then he found out O'Reilley gave me a wrong battery (what??!). I was stuck with a dead battery and a wrong battery. Don immediately dropped me off back to O'Reilley to get it exchanged, and his wife picked me up to bring me back to the shop. They could have just told me I need to deal it with myself, and I would have understood. Intead, they offered such kindness whilst being so busy. Don pumped air in my tire and even told me which one had a problem. The whole time he was kindly telling a car idiot like me how to take care of my car better like my own uncle. He still charged me the same amount he promised in the beginning after all that trouble. If I weren't broke, I would have insisted paying more.
