This is how your car may look after you dropped off your car for oil change. For the record, this has been the second time. My car has just 18,000 miles with zero leaks and is kept clean inside and outside. As a relationship customer, I have performed all my oil changes (every 3000 miles) at Express General Auto Repair. One employee caused a big mess by removing first the oil filter without having drained the old oil first. Oil splashed everywhere, making the undertray wet and consequently causing oil spill paddles in my driveway and garage floor. It was a mess and hard work to remove oil stains from pavement stones that sucked the oil up. When I notified Paul, he took care of this issue the first time and cleaned the undertray properly. The next oil change was performed by another mechanic and it was fine. Last week, I made an appointment for the next oil change. When I arrived, Paul said he is busy (despite the agreed appointment time that I honored) and suggested that the same employee who caused the oil mess last time could perform the service. Quote "Give him a chance" - so I agreed. Sure enough, when I checked my car later this day, the same mess happened again. Paul suggested, I should come in today and he would look at this. So, when I returned today, Paul looked at the mess and that there is nothing he can do and that "nothing is perfect". I asked, if he could use at least a degreaser spray and clean at least the undertray - but Paul denied and saying that there is nothing he can do. I was told that "nothing is perfect" and I was asked leave. So make your on judgment how this business will take care of you.....and what type of work you get when a simple oil change should be performed. read more

My favorite and was only oil change place in alhambra (its currently temporarily closed?) Its really hard to find a place you can trust. So my bf's mom & him have been going to their place for years. Only place I've brought my car until the temporary close. Then my car started getting sick or just doesn't sound as well as before. That really tells me they really did take good care of it, because if anything happened they're the only place that have touched my car haha Service: Fast & reliable. They even check everything for you. They're not like jiffy lube & try to sell everything possible to you. Best thing yet is if you tell Paul like certain part is due, he'll let you know if its actually necessary to change or not ...or when it should be time because really? the manual is a standard but every driver is different of course. The service so far is fine. I really do not like the way the mechanist pushing me to do other services. He also threatened me that if I do not do it my car will be destroyed and got mad when I did not do it. I checked computer what he said is not true, all he wanted is money. He could suggest, but it was my decision based on my schedule and budget to do or not. His way was not acceptable. read more

I cant say it enough; Paul is just a great guy to do business with. He's honest and his prices are more than fair. If you know nothing about cars, he welcomes questions and takes the time to answer them. He also accommodates customers while taking care of his workers, making sure they don't stay too late. I usually go to my car dealership to get my car maintained but it has been a drag to drive to my usual place. I yelped places to get my oil changed and came across Express General Auto Repair. I decided to give it a try. I called this place early in the day to let them know that I wanted to come in around 4:30pm to get my oil changed. The person I spoke to, (I assume it's Paul) was extremely kind and confirmed the time. When I arrived, he recognized that I was the one that called earlier. The service is really fast, you drive your car up and just wait on the side. It took about 20 minutes when I got my oil changed the first time, and literally 10 minutes on mega-speed the 2nd time I came in. They charge $30 for an oil change, not bad. Reasonable price, easy, and I never had an issue with them. Will come back! and Paul speaks English! Also if you're hungry, there's a burger/taco/fries place right next store. so mind as well grab a bite while you're at it. read more

Thought I'd never say something so positive about a car repair place... Brought my Acura in for a routine oil change and tire rotation, and received a level of service way beyond anything you'd get at a chain oil change stop, (e.g. Jiffy Lube, EZ Lube). Not only was I in-n-out in a very reasonable amount of time, but they did everything for a very fair price -- and didn't try to upsell any unnecessary services to me like they always do at the chain oil change stops mentioned before. Spoke with both Paul and Joe -- good guys. Will definitely be back here the next time my car needs work -- repair or scheduled maintenance. read more

Umm so I had a long-story fuck up on my car and the wheel started making a grinding noise. Took it in fully expecting to pay at least 3-digits on repairs. The guy looks at it. Knew and told me exactly what I did to cause this damage. Which I admitted to doing. Took a screw driver and bent a piece of metal back into shape. Lowered the car, put the wheel back on, and sent me on my way. 2 minutes TOPS. No charge. I mean I probably need a real repair knowing what I did to the car to cause the problem in the first place. But I definitely appreciated the freebie MacGyver-fix from time to time. read more

I'm not a perfesional yelper or speller just want to pay it forward for a good shop. I recommend Paul to anyone who needs a good, down to earth mechanic. Knowledgeable, not a bullshiter, not trying to be pushy or upsell. I took Paul my 2005 chevy trailblazer to change the water pump, very fair price next day turn around..end of story no problems after that. Then just this week i took him a new to me work truck 1997 Dodge 1500 Pick up, changed hoses water pump and small list of other parts. Again the work was done quick and got my truck back with no leaks Today I had a little incedent with some road rage and pushed my truck to the limits with the petal to the metal roaring engine and fuck yous going back and forth between me and another guy. I get to my destination to see that im leaking gas like crazy! Near the engine a hose was leaking a steady stream of gasoline...karmas a bitch! I call paul and tell him the situation, im pretty sure that any of the previous mechanics I've delt with would tell me tow it here and we can check it out BUT NO! I was about 20 milea from Alhambra so right off the bat he suggest that i take it to a local guy. Then after i sent him a few pictures and explained the problem over the phone he tells me how i can take a look for myself. So thats what i did and i was able to stop the leak and drive home no problem and no leak. I saved at least 120 on a tow And mabey another 100 on the mechanic. This guy won't squeeze you for cash, he charges a fair price to fix your problem and after today, this is my go to place as long as paul is there. read more

I took my car to another shop recently because of convenience and the estimate that they gave me for the repairs was over a grand. Not wanting to pay what I felt was an over inflated price, I decided to take the car over to Paul for a second opinion. Hello my Yelpies, Oh man!!! Am I glad to have found Paul! You KNOW that moment when you finally found your perfect hair stylist who listens to you and also give you their opinion. So Paul is like my perfect stylist but just for my car. I had the weirdest problem. Every time I turn on the ac for my car there will be this disgusting weird sweat scent that comes and go. When I mean by sweat it's not like little baby sweat, it smells like someone have been running for days and didn't shower. Man!! Am I lucky to have met Paul, he wasn't too sure why that happens he believes that maybe there was some kind of a mold. (The whole time I thought maybe I have a dead rat in my engine or something) so he decided to wash it with chlorine, it took about almost 2 hours for him to clean. He even drove my car around to try to get the chlorine smell away but we all know how strong chlorine is so it did took a week or so for it to be fully gone. Oh my days guys!! I was so surprised that as of so far it's been working. I haven't been smelling that terrible BO and I really hope it will last! Thank you so much Paul for being so generous THAT YOU DIDNT EVEN CHARGE ME A PENNY!!! I was literally speechless when you told me that. Thank you so much for always putting your customer first. I came in here to fix the brake lights on my car. The owner was really helpful and friendly. He told me how much it would cost from the dealership and inspected the problem really quickly. He informed me of what was wrong and why. When I got the part from the dealership he called me immediately. The piece had dummy light bulbs so I had to come in and get those replaced and we had a good laugh. Because we found a bigger problem, he offered the light bulb for free (10 dollars) and I told him that I wanted to pay anyways. The only negative is that the workshop is small, but they can't help that. Overall a pleasant experience. Thank you so much!! Keep up the good work! read more

Can't help but love what Paul and these guys do. Changing out battery terminals, engine mounts, brake lines... I come here for most of the major electrical and heavy work I can't do myself without a lift and Paul is fantastic. I can't recommend him enough. Prices are also spectacular and he's very fair and work is consistent and very good. For example: changing out battery clamps which requires a rewiring of the battery cables (snip off old, clamp on new) about $50 total here. At Mazda dealership? About $250 'because it's hazardous'. He is always reasonable, fair, and lets you know if you need if you actually need something done right now or if you can wait. His prices are amazing, and I always feel I can trust his advice, that he's never trying to take advantage in any way. I wish I could give 6 stars because I can't recommend him any stronger. My whole family goes to him. Even when I lived 25 miles away, I would always make the trip to this place because I knew I could trust the results. As for other mechanics that keep a sparkling clean joint but try to trick you into repairs you don't need, not all that glitters is gold, as they say. This place is the opposite. I don't think you understand. You might have seen the reviews, you might think you know that Paul is the best mechanic that ever mechanized, but you don't know, son, you just don't know. In fact, I would venture to say that the charms of Express General Auto Repair and Paul himself must first be experienced to be understood. Nevertheless I shall make an honest effort to impart my love of this place if only that you might be titillated enough to try it for yourself. The first time I came to see Paul it was with a laundry list of things those Other Guys told me had to be fixed. I'm a woman, I don't know much about cars, and I drive a twenty year old Camry that I bought off of CraigsList. To another mechanic, I'm a potential goldmine, as evidenced by the list of utter bullshit the Other Guys told me had to be fixed immediately. But Paul is different. Not only did he tell me exactly what on that list needed to be repaired and what didn't, he opened up the hood, brought me over, and explained exactly what it would look like/sound like/feel like if those things DID need to be replaced. He told me that if I brought the car in for oil changes, they would keep an eye on it, and that way nothing would ever be a surprise. Since then I have never even DREAMED of seeing another mechanic. The work is solid and the price is absolutely right. Paul never gives me an ounce of bullshit and never tries to get me to buy things I don't need. If I get it in my head that I need something and I don't, he'll tell me not to bother and why. If he finds something that needs replacing, he lets me know immediately and does it for a fair price. And have I mentioned yet how fast they work? Case in point, I was there last week for an oil change and also because my car was making terrible rumbly noises when I first started it up in the morning. About 40 minutes later I had a new radiator hose (it was swollen and awful), a new radiator cap (it had busted, and yes, he showed me), fresh oil, all my liquids topped off, a diagnoses for why I was getting weird rumblings and a new air filter (the other one's rubber had degraded and come off) for about $100. Boom. Moral of this story is see Paul. Women who aren't very vehicle savvy, Paul is your mechanic. read more

They have a small shop but you get a fair price that will be below the dealer and the quality of service is excellent. Paul is the MAN. I've been going to him for well over 5 years. Up-front, my dad ran a parts department for a major Honda dealership in the greater Atlanta area for about a decade. I've done more than my fair share of auto maintenance. I can change a tire, I've replaced alternators. Radiator repair. I've even worked on a head gasket replacement. From my experience I've learned two things- 1) NEVER trust a dealership repair center 2) Find a mechanic who's honest and competent and never let them go. Paul is that mechanic. The price was very reasonable and they didn't even try to sell me something I didn't need like Jiffy Lube usually does. No fancy place to wait, but the conversation with Paul was good. I was told by another reliable shop that I needed new ball joints and I saw it for myself and I got a quote but I wanted to get a second opinion and price. I live less than a mile away from Paul's shop. I called him over the phone, explained my situation and he said that he doesn't like giving estimates over the phone because he has found that a lot of times when customers come in, their car doesn't need the work done. I went in right away and Paul said he would check my car for me although in his opinion, its not common to see bad ball joints in a car like mine (accord). He came back to me a tad baffled but agreed that I did need new ball joints. Paul gave me a better price than the last shop and was able to take me same day. He explained the brand he was going to use and it was indeed a very reputable brand. He even gave me a little education on alignments. He offered to give me a ride home but I had that covered. It's so hard to find an honest mechanic but Paul is one of them! Honest and straightforward. Can't ask for more! If you need something fixed or simply a second opinion, Paul is your guy! read more
