These people charge way too much for their poor work. They put a lock on one of my doors and in doing so they damaged the surrounding parts of the door trying to make it fit. What a hack job!! For the amount they charge you'd think they would try to correct the poor work they leave behind, but they considered the work to be completed and wanted nothing more to do with it. I contacted another locksmith who told me that I was WAY overcharge for the unit that was installed. In addition, the Express locksmith stamped "Do not duplicate" on the keys he made for this lock. I did not ask them to do that, but now no one will make copies for me. They all tell me that I have to go back to these unethical hacks in order to get copies made. I'd rather have the tumblers replaced than go back to them again. read more

Stay away from this company! They are rude, unskilled, have horrible customer service and show up hours late. My girlfriend was late for work and had locked her keys in the trunk of her car at my home. Since I couldn't go help her, I talked to someone at Express Locksmith, explained she was in a hurry, and they told me someone could be to her in approximately 20 minutes. So, I paid and expected everything to turn out ok. 2 hours later, and the locksmith still hadn't shown up. Since my GF was in such a rush to get to work, I called several times to check up on the status, and the irritated guy kept saying it was because of "traffic" (he must have been coming from Rancho Cucamonga because the locksmith store was 4 miles from my home). When the locksmith finally did show up, he was rude, inept, and unable to complete the job he was overpaid to do. He got the car door open (after fumbling with it for a long time and requiring the assistance of some other people who were watching), but the trunk pop button was broken, so they needed to find another way into the trunk. BUT, the locksmith said there was no way to get the trunk open and just left. What good is a locksmith who can't get open locked doors? So, I had to leave work to try and handle the situation myself. I got home, made a pole out of a Swiffer mop pole and some twine, and literally got the trunk open in 5 minutes (I stuck the pole between the back seats and snaked the twine around the emergency trunk release). Mind you, I have NO locksmith training, have never done anything like his before, and have no specialized tools - I made this tool myself. Had I known it was going to be this much of an ordeal, I would have gone home and called AAA to have them do it for free in less time. I very politely called Express Locksmith to complain and ask for a refund. They listened, took my info, and said "the boss" would call me. 4 days later and that Boss never called. I called to follow up and was told to call back after 4:30p that day. When I did, the Boss was already gone. So I sent an e-mail, which did not get responded to. Long story short, I had to dispute this charge with my credit card company. Unless you locked yourself out of a cardboard box and have several hours to wait for overpriced help, stay away from this company! read more

I'd strongly urge anyone in need of a locksmith to avoid this business at all costs. These guys have been depressingly terrible to work with. They've had an ongoing feud with our property management while trying to get our building locks replaced, and been incredibly rude to me personally. During the first morning they were supposed to swap out the tenants keys in our lobby, they got into a fight with our homeowners board. It started with not wanting to sit at a table where everyone could see them, escalated when they began to hand out keys without checking for ID, and ultimately ended with them storming out of our building when they told the board that they were going to take all of the current keys and not replace the locks until 5pm that day - essentially leaving the entire resident populace without access. Because they left if a huff, the lock replacement never happened and a handful of tenants were left without their old keys. During the second attempt at swapping out the keys, they posted signs saying on two separate occasions that they would come to the building to provide the new keys before replacing the locks on a future date. On both occasions, they either failed to show or postponed via a sticky note left on the original notice. I wasn't able to make it to the postponed time so I don't know if they ever showed for that time either. I finally tried to go pick up the new keys at their shop and was met with more horrible customer service. I called the office before I left work to confirm they would be in and have the keys. The man who answered was insultingly rude and cut me off before I could finish asking if the store would be open during lunch hours. All I got was, "Just come into the store and I'll help you." before he hung up on me. Figuring I'd be able to take care of it better in person, I went to the store. I asked about the new keys for my building and he said "Sorry, we ran out. You can come back later and I'll make more." Considering that the locksmith was provided a list of names of everyone that was supposed to be able to pick up keys, I'm not sure how he managed to not make enough. In sum, if you want to patronize a bunch of bumbling idiots who are rude, classless, and bewilderingly incompetent, this is the locksmith for you. read more

I really like these guys. My building is one of the buildings that has a contract with Ezra, so I have to get my keys made here. That said, when I moved in to my condo, I needed new keys and also to shore up the safety on my balconies and sliding glass doors. Ezra was so sweet, funny helpful. I've known him now for 8 or 9 years, he's always been great, to me, my husband, my daughter. And the guy who works in the shop with him is really warm and nice too, can't remember his name. It's a little mom and pop shop. They've always been good to me. read more

I came in here to get a copy of my new apartment key. They were friendly and showed me various design options for my new key. I picked a pink Hello Kitty key and I love it. Their prices are reasonable as well. The last two reviews are from 2 years ago and are incorrect. I have recommended this locksmith to all my friends. I had a really bad experience there today. I needed copy of my building's keys. Needed 4 copy at least. I also knew that it's not a cheap key but when the guy who works there said $17 each, I thought wow! $17!? But I needed copy anyway, so stick with the plan. I ordered 4. Then everything's done, he didn't tell me how much the total it would cost, but I needed to pay so I gave him my my credit card, and he swiped my card and came back with the receipt. I saw the receipt, says $94! $17x4=$68 Yes, they tried to rip me off! My boyfriend complained to the guy, "you overcharged us!" Eventually I got $18 cash back .. Hello? It's not enough! Even I paid tax, still they owed me $2 more. I was supposed to get $20 back at least. And they don't have invoice... Great... Maybe I'm not the only one victim here.... read more

The owner Ezra was very professional, accommodating and trustworthy. I had a complicated situation involving a newly purchased townhome (his company was the official locksmith for) and since I'm only in WeHo once per month, it was a challenge. Ezra worked very closely and personally coordinated the services while I was home in SF, even provided keys and a lockbox without even charging until all services were completed a month later. I am looking around for locksmith now in west hollywood area and saw this name. Not sure if it applys since its been over a year since I used this place. but this company truly should not still be in business. They used to operate out of Vons parking lot was their location. Now i see they are elsewhere, they are not honest and totally left me without ANY locks or keys when I complained about their crazy high prices even after I had asked for an estimate up front and then they tried to change prices mid =job.... We called to find out how much he would charge but we were pricing so many we forgot who we had already called and called him again by accident to ask how much and he was very rude yelling at my husband saying that he already told him how much. Best locksmith experience I've had. Came down to LA from the Bay Area to visit friends, but stupidly locked myself out of my car. I called another company first, but they quoted me an hour to an hour and a half. I called Express Locksmith, and they said they'd come within 30 minutes. After only 15 minutes, Ezra showed up to help me out. He was really nice and funny, and got right to business. It took him around 3 to 5 minutes to open the car, and then he had me show my license and registration to make sure it was my car he'd just opened. (He asked for registration up front, but it was locked in the car, so I showed him after the car was open) I really appreciated his checking to make sure it was my car; I would hate to think that a locksmith would break into someone's car and just assume it belonged to the person who called. Overall it was quick, painless, and Ezra has a really fun personality; it made getting locked out of my car almost a fun experience. I would absolutely use this service again (too bad they don't have a Bay Area location!) and would wholeheartedly recommend them to a friend. read more

Do not try and order any parts from them because they do not follow through and the employees have not clue what is going on in the shop. I locked myself out of my apartment a week after I moved in and my car keys were in the apartment. I was in a hurry to get to work and I called express locksmith and told them I was in a huge hurry. The locksmith showed up quickly and was very friendly and went to work right away. I had my car keys in no time and I was only a few minutes late to work! Do NOT Trust them to do anything more than duplicate a door key. They lack sufficient skill, lack reason. In short they are "HACKS". They used a substandard/incorrect key blank to duplicate my Lexus key which resulted in damage to the ignition, which as a result required the car be towed to a Lexus dealer. The cost to repair their damage nearly $1000. Rather costly to duplicate a key not to mention loss of time. I learned at Lexus that the key Express used was NOT the proper "blank" and it damaged the security mechanism which required removing the entire steering column and ignition. What a headache. There is no crime in not knowing- The crime is pretending you know when you don't and arguing in the face of your failure. read more

My boyfriend went earlier in the day and was told the key couldn't be duplicated until later in the afternoon (maybe the computer was down?). When I came back later, I received great service and had a pleasant conversation with Ezra.
