I had a midday doctor visit at Mercy San Juan (very close to this place) so I decided to treat myself to lunch afterward. As I walked in, I was greeted warmly and seated promptly by the one server present. Not all tables were occupied. Still, I wondered about whether it might be too much for her to handle. I needn't have been concerned - she was professional, very pleasant, and on top of every detail. Decor is pleasant without seeming fussy. I perused the menu and decided on a light lunch that included some miso soup, an order of smoked salmon nigiri, an order of hamachi (yellowtail) nigiri, and an unagi (eel) hand roll. Everything was very fresh and presented beautifully. It was a lovely solo lunch on a beautiful day. I can't imagine a nicer way to treat myself after a doctor's appointment. When scheduling future visits, I'll try to make sure they're around midday so I can stop off at Express for lunch before heading home. read more

Ambiance: 6/10 This isn't a fancy sushi joint, and honestly, that's part of the charm. It gives classic mom and pop vibes if they had an express train running through. Big open seating area with booths along the wall, standard tables in the middle, and a sushi bar up front. It's casual, quick, and comfy... perfect for what it is. Service: 8/10 The service was great! It's one of those team effort places where everyone checks on you, refills drinks, and makes sure you're taken care of. Super friendly, no complaints at all. Food: 10/10 We kicked it off with the garlic edamame, which came out nice and hot, perfectly seasoned, and not too heavy on the garlic. For rolls, we got the King Kong Roll, deep fried, and the Sundown Roll (no unagi for me)and wow... that King Kong Roll slapped. Definitely the star of the show. Deep-fried deliciousness never fails. 10/10 would recommend. I'll absolutely keep coming back. I stopped at Express Sushi & Teriyaki while running errands at Walmart because I suddenly realized I hadn't eaten anything all day. Life has been really heavy lately, so I just grabbed a quick sushi roll and headed back to my car. When I looked at the receipt, there was a sticker that said: "Love One Another - John 15:17." Such a tiny thing... but it honestly hit me right in the heart at the exact moment I needed it. You never know what someone walking through your door might be going through. My hubby and I had an amazing time at our funday Monday night out. We found an amazing spot not far from our home. The food is absolutely amazing. Our server Iana was an absolute doll! She was so attentive and really great with my avocado allergy. I feel bad that I forgot the other servers name but she was so sweet and bubbly. She knew exactly what sauce I was talking about without the name. Plus the music and lights were so on point. It was a great atmosphere for our date night. Oh and if you haven't had a warm sake on a rainy date night.. it's a must. Can't wait to come back in our next date night. I honestly don't understand why Express Sushi & Teriyaki gets so many good reviews. The service was okay, but based on the food alone, I wouldn't come back. The miso soup was extremely salty--so salty that I couldn't finish it. It tasted like a pre-made packet with way too much salt added. The teriyaki chicken had very little flavor and didn't taste fresh, and I wasn't impressed with the sushi I tried either. Yesterday was our second time there and we were super excited because the food was so delicious from our last visit but unfortunately the service was just not there last night. We ordered everything at the same time but some how our sushi rolls NEVER made it out. We finished everything we ordered and still waited 20 mins for the sushi rolls to come out and NOTHING. We asked a few times and every time we were told they were being worked on. We ordered at 6:25pm finished eating by 7pm and waited till 7:20 for the sushi rolls but had to end up asking for a refund on the rolls since our kids were getting impatient. We ordered the flamingo mushroom appetizer and 2 rolls. The appetizer came out very quickly. The outside was very crispy and cooked perfectly however the inside was lukewarm and the mushrooms were still raw. We then waited almost an hour when finally the waitress came back and asked us if we were ready for our check. We hadn't even received our dinner! She said oh, you never got your food? She went to the sushi bar and checked and came back to say she put the order in on her end but they never got it and they were working on it. Maybe if she had come back to check on us at some point she would have noticed that the waters were empty and we never received our dinner! When the rolls came out one was pretty good however the cucumber wrapped roll still had the skin on and the slice of cucumber was very thick. It made it difficult to pick up and fell apart. The skin was also bitter. The inside was great. I have never seen it made that way. It should be peel less and thinly sliced. I recommend they change their technique because it would have been amazing if they did! Overall not a great experience. read more
