I previously had my wedding suit tailored at "House of Couture" by Sharifa and it came out ridiculous! Really baggy pants and suit jacket that looked like it came out of the 90's and wouldn't listen to me when I addressed this issue. So I tried my luck with Express Tailor. I was looking for a tailor that I could trust would do a great job. My son's favorite (and expensive) backpack zipper broke. I tried to see if I could repair it myself but the way it was positioned required an expert. When I read through the reviews, one in particular caught my eye. The reviewer described the owner as a gentlemen. Character and manners are big for me. I could tell from the reviews that he took great care with his craft and service. I walked into the shop and was greeted politely by Hanif. I showed him the backpack and he recommended replacing the zipper with a better, sturdier one. He also described how he would repair it. I was pleased so I decided to have him do it, plus my husband's nice jacket that also had a broken zipper. My gut feeling told me that he'd do a great job. When the items were ready it was time to pick them up. Gas prices had already sky-rocketed by then so I was hesitant to drive all the way to WC. He offered to deliver them to me! He didn't want me to waste gas and he lived nearby so assured me that it was no trouble. Talk about customer service! He showed up at the door with a pin in his mouth (like a true tailor), glasses down to his nose, and handed over the backpack and jacket. They were beautifully repaired. My son was so excited that he came to the door with a huge smile, thanked Hanif, then started filling it up with his schoolbooks right away. To begin with I would like to say that the gentleman running this shop is a right on man - an expert tailor and a life saver. I had a situation where I purchased two very expensive MLB authentic jerseys. Long story short what I received was a size larger than what was intended. I purchased beautiful Spanx jeans that needed to be hemmed a couple inches and wanted a trustworthy, excellent tailor close to my work in Walnut Creek. Read Yelp reviews and went with Express Tailor. Thankful they were open until 6pm. Met Hanif who was personable, professional, and informed me the jeans may lose the original hem stitch. He would see what he could do. Hanif is a master tailor and is very honest about what work can be done and what cannot. His prices are fair and his work is outstanding! First and last time using this place's services. I have no idea how they're rated so highly. I brought in a pair of jeans and a pair of sweats. The jeans needed the pockets repaired and the sweats needed a new drawstring. They ran stitches across the pockets and threaded the cheapest piece of cotton cord they could find through the waste, and it doesn't even pull through smoothly. Any competent professional would have used a flat synthetic cord, not a round grippy cotton cord. And the price?--$50...for a job that took around $1.50 in materials and less than 10 minutes of "labor". On top of that, they didn't even bother to repair the holes where the drawstring enters and exits (photo attached). But the best part is that it took them THREE weeks to complete the repairs. Shoddy work and exorbitant pricing are not great business models. read more
