We have now used Andre twice on our ipe deck. The first time, in 2021, he power washed and stained the entire deck. The second time, in 2024, he just did the deck surface and the horizontal surface of the railing (not the vertical railing pieces). Both times he did a thorough and professional high-quality job. The previous owner of our house did not properly seal the ipe decks, so within a year of us moving in, they had gotten very dull from being pelted by the rain. A neighbor on NextDoor referred us to Andre's company, Exterior Wood Care. Not only was Andre's quote more affordable than competing bids, he was also more knowledgeable on the care of ipe than the salespeople of other companies. Andre took care to lightly pressure wash the decks and fully remove the old layer of sealer. After the surfaces had completely dried, he applied a new coat of Ipe Oil. The results were fantastic (see photos) and we would definitely hire Andre again for any deck maintenance! read more

Andre has very good reviews on other sites and I was happy when our initial quote request came back quickly--but it was all downhill from there. Andre took 11 days to respond to my request to schedule a date--then didn't give me a date. I then asked him (again) what his earliest available date was and his response? "I can't tell you right now." Is his availability some kind of secret, or does he just not know his own schedule? I've now asked him to give me a date THREE TIMES. I'm giving up. Andre is, hands down, the least-professional service experience I've had in 30 years. Avoid. Andre was incredibly helpful and informative. I spoke with him over the phone and via e-mail about a deck refinishing project and he convinced me *not* to have the work done right away and instead to wait a few years to better protect the wood. He also continued to give me advice about the project over e-mail even after we decided to postpone it. Andre is reliable and truly cares about the quality of his work. We have a deck that we had sealed last year and we went cheap (unlicensed handyman). It looked terrible 6 months later. Andre came by, explained what had been done wrong and what he would do differently. His quote was very competitive among the quotes we received. Locking down timing is difficult because Andre refuses to do work in weather that will compromise the quality, so I would advise anyone who's thinking of using Andre to be patient. When the weather finally permitted the job to get done, Andre did a fantastic job. Our deck looks the best it ever has. To top it all off, he's incredibly honest about what needs to be done to maintain the deck. He's not pushing to come redo the work in a couple of years and has laid out how we can just take care of it ourselves. read more

Exterior Wood Care, LLC.. were contracted to stain my deck and house but instead damage my property. After more than one attempt to correct the problem directly with them, they have yet to honor their contract and their L.L.C with us. It's very disheartening. "They ruined my deck, left the knots on my house unstained, damage my light fixtures and hand over a bag of screws for my deck. They only put 2 out of 4 screws on each railing. Andre worked on staining our Medina home deck. We had our deck painted but we didn't like the way it has gotten worse quickly over time. We pressure washed deck already before we contacted him. Andre is totally reliable, totally honest and an exceptional craftsman. Our condominium has two 37 year old cedar trellises. We were planning on replacing them at a very high cost until we heard about the work that Andre does. He showed up on time for an estimate and provided it own the spot. His quote was VERY competitive and we hired him on the spot. As soon as weather permitted (he needs dry weather) he came and did his magic. Just wanted to write about my encounter with Andre with Exterior Wood Care. I did not hire Andre because he selflessly gave me knowledge on how to save the most money and my concern on timing. I emailed Andre late afternoon Saturday. Found him through online reviews for a deck staining job. He responded fairly soon on the weekend. After I gave him a description of the job itself via email, he did quote me but was upfront about his schedule at this time of the year. He offered an alternative, given a brand new deck, the work itself would not entail much prep and gave me pointers on a quick do it your self avenue that would save me time and avoid waiting with weather changing. Andre did a great work on my deck sealing project. It was a relatively small deck (300 sqft) but Andre put the same level of attention and care to every one of his jobs. He was honest in explaining time/weather contingencies, and provided me a list of seal options clearly explaining the pros/cons of each (I initially wanted a transparent or very light seal, but Andre explained the role of pigment in preventing UV damage and that helped me make a better decision). For my next small projects, he even recommended DIY-work I can do on my own. Overall a great experience working with him. Would totally recommend his service. read more

Andre came out and did a thorough inspection of my front porch and stairs, and the deck with stairs and railings in the back. He was clear about my options and the steps he would take for the job. He came a few days later and completely stripped the previous stain, then came back when the wood was completely dry and completed the stain and oil... it looks wonderful!!! 2 days later, it rained, and it all beaded up so nicely. Andre is very busy, but well worth the wait. It wasn't until near the end of summer when I contacted him and was worried he wouldn't be able to fit us in before the summer was over. He gave me his word that he would do it and he did! To me, the job appeared difficult, requiring a huge ladder, but we are so pleased with the results. Andre did an excellent job sanding and re-staining our 500 sq. ft. cedar 2x4 deck in the summer 2014. I was amazed when he showed up alone and did the entire job alone! Andre's work is meticulous; for example he was able to sand under our 150 or so posts along the deck often with barely a 1/4 inch clearance between them and the deck itself. Despite having other jobs going at the same time he finished ours on time. The price was better than some other estimates. The work is just great. read more
