There were a number of different issues with the service I received from Brian - mainly his communication and professionalism. I have no doubt he is a skilled and experienced tile installer when he wants to be, but his customer service and communication skills need improvement. I also do not believe he cares deeply about the quality of the work and would rather just move on to the next job. When we first spoke on the phone I provided the dimensions / sq footage of tile I needed installed and Brian was quick to give me a quote over the phone - he said he's done tile for 12 years and can price the job without even visiting my home. Great! I thought the price was reasonable ($1100 for about 40 sq ft of tile) so I told him I'd like him to do the job and followed up via e-mail with the specifics of the tile I had ordered and the exact dimensions of the space. When Brian came to do the work a few weeks later, he didn't ask many questions and seemed to know what to do. I went to work for the day and when I came back the tile had been set and overall looked good, but I noticed that he had done a strip of tile on an area where I had specifically said I either wanted the whole thing tiled, or none at all if there wasn't enough material. I had to ask him to remove the strip of tile he had laid, which wasn't a big deal. But I found it weird that he wouldn't have called me to describe this alternate design since it was not what we discussed and ended up being more work for him. The second day of the job, Brian texted me to say he would be finishing the job that day and asked me to leave a check for the total amount. When I came home I found that overall the tile and grout looked great. The chevron design I selected for the backsplash was installed with even spacing and all tiles were cut and placed perfectly. However, I noticed that he did not put the outlet covers back on. I called him about it and he said he didn't know where to find the outlet covers so that's why he didn't put them on. I said "why didn't you just call me to ask where they were" he told me he would come back on Saturday to take care of the outlet covers. When he came back, he went to work putting the outlet covers back on. This went fine on the backsplash but when it came time to do the island, it became clear that the hole he had left around the outlet was much larger than the cover! Leaving a huge unsightly gap. It was at this point that I also noticed that the top edge of the island tile was not even and had about 3/4" of grout at the top instead of tile in the top section. Fortunately this is hidden by the countertop which hangs over the back of the island so you can only see it on close inspection but it is still not quality work and was never communicated to me. I told him that the job needed to be done right and I was not okay with the gap around the outlet covers and I expected him to fix it. Brian responded by going on a rant, saying he should have charged me $2,500 instead of $1,100 for this job because of the complexity of the tile work. He was irritated about having to place small pieces of tile and used expletives to describe how annoying it was. I had specifically e-mailed him visuals and specifications of the exact tile I had ordered, so he should have known what to expect. Brian told me I didn't order enough tile, which is the reason the island tile does not reach the top correctly. Not only had I consulted him on the exact quantity of tile to purchase, but he could have simply called me and said "I don't have enough tile to do this job right, I need you to order more before I can tile your island". He refused to make the island outlets right without an additional arbitrary payment of $50. He also told me he was busy and wouldn't be able to come back for a few weeks. When he did come back, guess what his solution was!? To simply install some larger outlet covers which don't match wit the rest of my kitchen, just so he wouldn't have to do any more work to make the job right. Again, zero communication about this half-assed solution. I simply came home and he had installed the larger covers. In addition to all of the communication nonsense, he left all of the tile packaging, plus other garbage and a piece of cardboard covered in grout in my dining room. I would never recommend working with Brian. He does not care about the quality of his work or the experience of his customers, and does not know how to communicate in a professional manner. read more

Brian did an amazing job removing the old deteriorating and discolored grout from the tub surround in our master bathroom and regrouting and recaulking the whole thing. It was a huge and daunting job in our minds, but Brian was finished in less than three hours. The bathroom is brighter and shinier than we've ever seen it and it feels nice to be in there again. He matched up the color of the grout with the tile work in the rest of the bathroom so the restored areas perfectly blend. We bought the house five years ago and inherited the gross shower walls. We always thought we'd have to fix the grout ourselves or pay a huge amount to have it done for us. We shouldn't have waited so long. We are so grateful for finally having a beautiful bathroom! Brian came to my home a few weeks ago to revamp the tile in my master bathroom. Mind you, this tile has not been sealed in more than 10 years. No matter how long or how hard I scrubbed, it was impossible to get the grout white again. Brian took one look and informed me that the tile had been worn down so low that it needed to be replaced. Within 4 hours, not only did he re-grout, caulk and seal the shower stall, he also did the same for our long, double-sink bathroom countertop and cleaned, repaired and sealed all of the tile surrounding our soaking tub, as well. It is now looking as good as new and I couldn't be happier with the result. Admittedly, I was a little worried when I first called Brian and he wanted to commit to the job sight unseen, but he was professional and immediately knew exactly what needed to be done. Honestly, I don't know what to say about Brian and his business. I've done quite a bit of work on homes myself so I'm not completely dumbfounded by contractors/home services alike. I decided to list my home for sale and just wanted to do some refreshing in the bathroom. When I got started with an epoxy enamel on my bathtub, I realized the prior owner of my condo had already done a botched job so my dad layering more epoxy on epoxy causes this orange peel look. We tried to scrape it off and had most of it done but realized we were way behind my contract to sell schedule. I called around and couldn't find a contractor available immediately and I stumbled onto Brian's yelp business review. He picked up and just like a prior reviewer, was surprised he was willing to take the job just like that. He shows up and takes a look at my bathtub and that's when I realized I should have sent him running along. He looked completely bewildered and said he had never see anything like this. He grabs his tools from the truck and makes a few feeble attempts at scraping the epoxy. I told him I had been using acetone since it really is one of the only things that break up epoxy other than even more harmful chemicals. He continues to do it even though I politely and passively tells him I was going to call a contractor the next day. About 2 hours later, he charges me $200 and makes a remark that he would normally charge $700. I'm thinking, okay, yes, it sucks and it's not fun to scrape epoxy but its certainly not skilled labor, its just manual labor. Anyway, he stopped after 2 hours and said he would send one of his brother's guys out the next day for 15-16 dollars an hour to finish the work. I said okay. The next day, he tells my via text his labor guy bailed so he was going to come after his project. I asked him for a price and he didn't respond but he responded to everything else. I don't know if his guy actually bailed or he just saw an easy way to tack on another $200 - $300. At that point, I think his guilty conscience finally kicked in and he realized he was taking advantage of me. I had a contractor come that very next day and he said I should have never allowed a grout guy come in and tell me how it can be done. He told me that only licensed, bonded and insured all around contractors can advise on the best and most affordable solution. And yes, I went with that contractor and that $200 could have gone towards it since it wasn't much more. I want to say that he genuinely wanted to help but he also saw huge $$$ when he knew the job required no skill just manual labor. He knows the reason why I'm selling my property too. In a simple sentence, my life is literally depending on the proceeds of my sale and if he knew he couldn't fix the problem 15-20 minutes in, he should have told me and left. I would have gladly paid him for 15 minutes of work. I hope he sees this and is ashamed of himself for taking advantage of a sick person. Even if he meant well BUT knew he didn't have a clue as to what he was doing, the honest thing would have been to just admit it and not continue wasting his time and my money. I ended up having to pay him and then hire a contractor who did know how to fix it cheaper. Word of advice to those seeking home improvement, keep calling around and asking for quotes. Ask for pictures and expertise as to what they have done. read more

Consistent with some of the other bad reviews that have been written, if your job is simple and direct, Brian might be the right contractor. If there's any complexity or it requires Brian to work with you to solve a problem then Brian may not have the patience, skill, or professionalism to figure it out. He agreed to work with me to find a nontoxic sealer instead of the more toxic sealer he uses on floors. After a lot of research and back and forth with him I had selected a new sealer. But then he decided he didn't want to use it and stopped communicating. It was a big waste of my time. I should have read the negative reviews on Yelp before I started working him and then I would have never gotten so far down the road with him. read more

Brian is a true professional and a decent human being. Recently we had a horrible experience with a contractor who was inept and took 6 weeks to leave our bathroom a mess. The tiling was poorly done, what little grout was done was spread all over the tiles and not cleaned off. I called one company and they referred me to Brian. Brian took 40 minutes of his time just to drive here to my house. He used a combination of cleaners and wire brushes and was able to clean the mess and then showed us how to do the rest ourselves. And he did not charge us anything for his time. It was such a blessing to have this experience with a person who genuinely cares about people and doesn't just see them as marks for extorting money. Brain rescued us from a tile job that was disastrous on our bathroom remodel by another General contractor . Brain was hired by us on the recommendation. He had to tear down the entire bathroom and do all the prep work with the standard codes followed. Brain not only finish the job as per the timeline given to us , he also did a very meticulous job and went extra miles and took pride to make the job look good. I wanted to have backsplash tile installed in our kitchen and multiple areas throughout our house I needed tile and grout cleaned and repaired. I explained the scope of the work to Brian over the phone and he set a date to come take a look. He checked everything out, committed to a dollar amount for his proposal and started to work right away. I should have taken "before" photos to illustrate the awesome work he did. He did all of the work over two days, installed the tile, and cleaned/repaired/caulked grout/tile on the floor in three bathrooms, two tubs, and one shower. Also cleaned the extremely grimy tile and grout on the front porch (porcelain tile). It was apparent from the beginning that Brian was very experienced and knew exactly what to do and he didn't waste any time getting to work. I had a bad prior experience with others, so I called Brian for a repair job, not only did he have a clever solution that saved me hundreds of dollars, he was on his hands and knees cleaning everything to the bone, then he fixed my grout so that it glows. Sealed for 5 years, at least. He was on time, so nice, cleaned up as if he was never there--ok, it was cleaner when he left, for sure!
