Very easy to set up. I was so thrilled with the safety of my unit. I was in between states & this location was easy to find. I didn't need to focus on anything but driving to and from the unit so thankful! Been here for a whole year and moving out was just as easy as moving in! I had my friend Keke move out for me & he didn't even need instructions on finding the unit after hours. The facility is THAT easy to navigate!!! Ending my reoccurring payment was a quick 3 step process online! I'll be recommend this location to all my Austinites (even the ones who are in between states )! Like the other reviewer, we were renting space here for a couple of months when they increased the rent by $11/month. When I asked why the substantial increase I was told it was in our agreement the rent would increase after four months, and to expect it to increase again before the 9th month. Our fault for missing this in the fine print, but this is not a business practice I wish to support. Would rather spend a little more each month and deal with a company who doesn't lure you in with good prices and then hikes them up as soon you put your lock on. read more

A storage unit is a storage unit. Like whatever, who cares, right? Except the staff at this facility is the absolute best!!! Every time I call for any reason they go above and beyond! They take the time and then some to answer my questions and they are just genuinely kind people. I really enjoy chatting with them after the question has been answered. The company as a whole has been beyond understanding about payments during COVID. They may be move expensive than other storage places, but I know my most cherished belongings are safe stored there and you can't put a price on piece of mind . Plus, the facility is brand new and kept spotless. Even the dolly carts are clean and not all beat up. I just can't say enough about how lovely this place is. The facility is safe and clean. I feel that my property is secure at this location, on 5oth street in Austin, TX (don't know why my location is listed as San Francisco). However, in the 1.5 year that my things have been there, they've raised the rate 3 times without any communication or notification of these rate changes. Meanwhile, they are still advertising for the rate I originally signed a contract for. I am now paying $215 dollars per month for a unit that was $164 at the time of contracting. I have no choice but to pay or move my things which will be difficult since i'm travelling quite a bit for work. This is extremely shady and bad business practices to say the least. To randomly change rates once customers have made the investment of moving our things in is unfair. read more

I wanted to update my original review. I have now been with Extra Space Storage 20 months., I have remainded there only because it will cost me several thousand dollars to hire movers to remove my heavy stuff from the unit. However, in those 20 months my rate has increased 45.87%. That is a rate increase of almost 4% per month. And, Extra Space Storage does not provide any long-term contracts. They only rent month-to-month. Their most recently rate increase for me is during the pandemic while millions of people are furloughed and apartment rent in Austin has decreased 2.6% (Statesman, Aug. 18, 2020). Additionally, they provided me an 888 number so I could talk to the corporate office about this. However, it is an automated number that sends me back to my local storage unit. There is no assistance past who you are speaking to at you local unit. Before moving anything into Extra Space Storage, I would strongly urge you to check out the many other facilities in the area that provide long-term contracts and much cheaper rates. I have another unit in town that I have had since October 2017, and it's rate has not changed during that time. read more

First off, if it weren't for the extreme rate increases, this place would be a 5 star. In one year my unit went from $229 to now $295 per month. When other companies were going down or not hiking rates, this 3rd party owned ExtraSpace Storage went up and up. They seem to have the mentality that "many will complain, but few will leave". This might be true for some that just have money to burn, but for those of us struggling, it's a big blow to our budgets! They literally have me held hostage knowing how much it cost to move out of a unit and into another. And this company does not give any loyalty discounts for long-term tenants, so buyers beware. The industry standard is 6.7% to 10% per rate increase, versus this location it went up 28% in a year! Hint, the Extra Space Storage less than a mile away on the access road (@5656 N IH 35Austin, TX 78751) is company-owned and is less than half the cost per month on starting units! That's a bit heavy and not sure why a company would allow a franchise owner to charge such high prices, especially when the real owner's names are nowhere to be found on paperwork or even when requested from a representative. Just seems very shady to run a business like this. I WILL be moving, even if it cost me a little extra now, as in the long run, I'll be saving over $100 per month moving just right down the road! My advice is to avoid this location and look elsewhere! read more

Extra Space Storage on 51 and I35 was absolutely the worst experience I've ever had. I was in the process of moving after college and had a two week gap between the end of my lease and my movers/packers coming. I was told to pick a storage unit and would be reimbursed by the moving company. Based on reviews and a friend also using the complex, I chose Extra Space Storage on 51 and I35. Moving in was not difficult, they have good hours, friendly staff, and free use of multiple dollies. I was able to fit all of my belongings from my apartment (bedroom, kitchen, living room) into a 10X8 unit. You can buy a lock at the front desk and various boxes, mattress covers, etc. Over the course of three days I was completely moved in. Fast forward a week and a half. I get a call at work saying my unit "may have been compromised." Not knowing the full details I ask my boss to leave two hours early and head over. When I arrive, a guy at the front desk takes me to my unit that has been broken into and trashed. Everything I had carefully packed into Rubbermaid's and tetris-ed into the unit was tossed around, open and empties around the unit. Furniture was broken. Items lay strewn across the exit path of the criminals. After seeing this, I ask if they caught the people. This is when I learn that they don't have security cameras of the entire back hallway. In fact, they only have cameras of the office, the main hallway, and outside the front of the unit. All the back hallways on every floor have zero cameras. The side entrance they used to break in had zero cameras. Do not use this facility unless you're on the upper levels or they update their security. General advice: don't lease from any storage unit until you get a full breakdown of their security systems. The naive person I was before this incident thought the image of flashing tv screens with security footage of the first floor entrance hallway was enough reassurance. I was obviously wrong. read more

i started renting 6.28.18 and its now 11.7.18 (5 months) they have already gone up on the rent. I rented with them because of the pricing and how clean it was. the staff is great. spoke to manager over the phone to speak about why after only 5 months the rent would go up?? i think its fair the rent go up after a year of renting...HIS BOGUS nonchalant dont care attitude answer was "The cost of living" we stay with in the market of what everyone else is charging, and your month to month. OMG!!! Really!!! 5 months renting an they go up on the rent regardless if i'm month to month. Not very happy. so for warning everyone. if you dont mind your rent going up. sure rent here...
