The attitude of one of your representatives here in Chicago is terrible! She is too young, too mouthy, unprofessional. I am an African American customer & so is she & I would keep her out of the public view. I made my reservation to move in. I was emailed to come in. I had no contract with the rules, procedure. She accused my son & I of sleeping there when we were running all night back & forth between moving vans! I have a disability & needed to prop my foot up on my luggage & we had the radio on listening to the news. We helped some clients get out of the gate with our code on Monday night when all attendants were gone! This is the 1344 W. 105th Street 60643 location. Today was the move-in day for my daughter's items. Before this move, she called the national line to set up the storage unit, and within minutes, the Store Manager Toya Bryant called my daughter to offer her a unit that would fit her storage needs. It was a personal touch on Toya's part to ensure my daughter was properly served. Thank you, Toya for your professionalism and friendliness. This place raised my rate from $60 tp$99!!! For a 5x5, lol! Did they email me about it? No. But they have my email and send other stuff. Did they call me? No. They sent a postcard in the mail. They aren't even always open when their posted hours state. And the building may or may not have people living there. Door is also proper open a lot. Avoid. read more

I had a great experience with Extra Space on Devon Ave in Chicago. Toya, the manager, is incredibly helpful. She showed me multiple spaces and helped me choose the best one for my needs and budget. She guided me through the access process, and on my move-in she connected me with another extra space tenant that solved a problem resulting in a win-win all around. Rude customer service. The woman that works at this location has a chip on her shoulder. The location doesn't have working restrooms or garbage cans. I asked the manager a simple question and she blew up on me. They raise my rent every few months. This location is a dump. The elevators don't work well. I will not give extra space another dollar. The late fees are $60.00 which is absolutely absurd! read more

This Extra Space Storage treats its renters like 3rd class citizens. Rather, it's like Shawshank Prison, where the employees are entitled guards, and the renters are the inmate. First, there is the bathroom that they treat like Fort Knox. It's continually locked. Not some of the time. All of the time, even during so-called working hours. See photos. If one has to urinate or defecate, then we have to go somewhere else. And I have a medical condition, so Extra Space engages in discriminatory.practices. Their rates skyrocket after the honeymoon period is over. Third, I live overseas part-time, and Extra Space has a firewall that blocks from seeing other units. See attached image of the Extra Space Firewall. A truly horrendous and unfriendly place I cannot wait to leave. The employees have their own private toilets. How convenient for them. I'm beyond tired of the manager Nick at the extra space storage on McCormick in Skokie. I've now called the police twice to come out to the storage because he put a lock on my storage. My storage is paid in full and he is refusing to allow me to get into my storage I was told I had to buy one of their locks then I was told I could use any luck. It's been over a week and I still have not been able to get into my storage today when I went there with the police The manager called the store as soon as I walked in the lady Lisa informed him I was there she walked me to the storage and then told me the keys she had would not open the lock so again I could not get in my storage Nick the manager was well aware I couldn't get into my storage in my storage he did this on purpose. He's one of those managers that loves to abuse their authority. The police asked him for corporate information instead he gave them his business card. Someone called my phone today just stating her name saying that I was waiting for a phone call back. I've called that number back five times now no response. I am so over ExtraSpace storage first of all when I initially got the storage it was $110 a month within two months. It went up to $212 not to mention I was late on a payment so they charge me another $140 for auction fee when my stuff didn't get auction not to mention the $60 late fees I would never recommend this location read more

the stroage facility itself is great. the company policy about having to insure your goods is garbage, because why are they worried about my stuff? i am not. however, that won't stop the morons who work there from insisting that you have to by insurance. even though they have a clause in the contract allowing you to deny insurance coverage. why people are giving these glowing reviews for a place that is overcharging them by making them by insurance is beyond me. the building is built sturdily enough that it couold probably take a direct hit from a military grade aerial bomb. i mean everything in the place is either steel or concrete. people using the space have to get through to electronic keypads to access the building. and every storage unit is locked. like i said amazing facility. horrible company!!!!!! read more

Close to the house. Super clean facility. Wonderful staff. We worked with Larry for our first unit. Came back to rent a second short term unit and he was training Penny. Both are super nice and very helpful. You have access from 6 am to 10 pm. After 10 pm, you can only go down the elevators so plan accordingly. We rented two climate controlled units at reasonable prices. When Larry saw our second reservation come through, he called my husband to follow up and he made sure our second unit was close to our first unit. They have nice flatbed carts and wide parking spaces in the loading doc. Everything is secure. read more

AWESOME!!! I am a college student and the staff was very kind over the phone and helped me pick the right size for all my belongings. I also had to go in person to verify my ID and a worker showed me to my unit the day before the start date. They also showed me how to use the lock etc. Very clean place and they have rolling carts for use to move in. The price is best online instead going in person to ask!! I picked this place after shopping around because it was so clean and the employee I dealt with was nice, so imagine my disappointment when I arrived with my movers to a space with a layer of what appeared to be sand across the whole floor. What could I do? I was paying the movers hourly and I didn't even have a broom and dustpan with me. So my stuff is just sitting on dirt. Luckily I had put my mattress in a bag and my love seat has a slipcover on it, so I don't think anything is going to be ruined, but I'm annoyed. This is going to be a mess when I move out. Also, what is the deal with forcing a person to pay for a lock? And insurance? That should be included in the monthly fee. I guess I just hate paying for a service where those providing the service do almost nothing. Argh. read more

New place and have low monthly rates to start BUT, I just got a 15% increase in monthly rate after being there only 5 months. So, Chicago has no protections on rent increases and storage companies know that you must rent a truck and move the stuff out. Also, I have had many times at this location where I can not get into the garage space because moving companies are allowed to block the garage from other paying customers. read more

The facility is clean and easy to get to. That's it. The ad is somewhat deceiving. First, there is an admin. fee that is not mentioned-$25. ( a lot of other places charge a fee- but tell you upfront.) Second they have a rule that you must have their kind of lock or purchase one from them ($14). Seems the Master lock I brought wasn't good enough. No mention of this until you're showed to the locker. Approximately 15 minutes after the paperwork was completed, I discovered that I had rented a space bigger than needed. They were happy to allow me to transfer to a smaller space for an additional $10 transfer fee. Starting to sound like a used car dealer? The Admin fee is understandable- I guess. The mandatory lock fee and transfer fee are not. (not without advertising and advising you up front.) Not sure what their cost per customer is, but I'm guessing more than $35 ... and so my referrals will be anyplace but here. read more
