I'm delighted that I finally decided to get a storage unit. I live just a few blocks from this conveniently located facility and could not be happier with my new storage arrangement! The staff are extremely courteous, helpful, and professional. All my questions were addressed up front, and I am confident that I chose the best facility around! The best part for me is the secure loading dock (garage). Even when there are other folks bringing stuff in or out, I don't have to wait more than a few minutes. If I stop by early in the morning or late in the evening, I'm typically done within 5 minutes. It's that easy. I love that the facility is climate controlled (for my own comfort primarily), and I don't have any concerns about safely, knowing that access is strictly monitored. Mice infestation! They have issues with mice since last summer. My unit got destroyed by rodents! Over $2k in damage! The owner claims the issue is being taken care of but the mice never went away as every month I return to my unit and discover new damage! The contract you sign when renting the unit mentions no responsibility of the owner for any damage including damage done by rodents so you will be left on your own to deal with your loss. They offered $10 discount for the next 6 months for me as well as arrange the livers to vacate then disappeared. The staff is friendly but not helpful. The facilites are great and easy to access. The staff needs to improve their communication efforts, speed run through all topics. Um, they receive my packages for me...then they CALL me to let me know they've arrived! I love them (the storage unit people, not the boxes). They are always POLITE, too. This means several things to me: 1. My neighbors no longer glare at me when 157 boxes of Yelpstick and other items arrive and sit in the lobby for a week until I can will myself to schlep it elsewhere. 2. I no longer have to schlep elsewhere. 3. No one steals the Yelpstick. 4. My car looks like a real person car, and not a yelpmoble, or extension of a storage unit. I needed some time and distance away from this one, folks. For nearly 2.5 years, this Self Storage 1 drove me to the brink of insanity and of the many things I miss about Chicago, this is nowhere near any of them. In fact, the last day I came here was a personal victory. Y'see, I'd thought that all other storage units were like this one. It wasn't until I started visiting colleagues in other cities that I saw that storage units could actually be well-maintained, friendly and not terrifying. Imagine that. Nearly everything's broken here. Like Danny W brought up earlier, the dollies are all busted. The wheels don't turn correctly and fairly unmanageable/extremely difficult to navigate. The flatbeds are cracked. The door to my unit would choose the days that it would open and/or close and in order to achieve either, I had to find the sweet spot, push in and then push out. Yep, that's right. I had to jimmy the door to my storage unit -- and I thought this behavior was normal! During the time that I served my sentence at SS1, management turned over. The first crew took turns being incompetent and outright hostile. Exchange the first: "Where's my package?" "I dunno." "I received a notice that I had a package." "Did you check the room?" "I just came from there. You saw me walk in to and out of it. "I dunno." Exchange the second: "The dolly...won't...move... ugh. Can you help or is there another I can use?" "I'm on break." The newer crew was nicer but cut from the same cloth when it came to the competence of their customer service. Bills were misplaced and/or double charged. Eyes were frequently large and saucer-like in response to inquiries. There was also a lot of running. Around. In circles. I'm a guy who can take decent care of himself. I have been throwing shade in big cities since I was 17. I'm a fan of urban exploration. I would walk home in various states of awareness from various points of urban areas in nearly every big city in which I've lived. I don't scare easily. This place creeped me out. It's dark, empty, abandoned, not well populated, and would serve as an excellent setting for a horror movie. Many times -- no matter the time of day -- I would find the hairs on the back of my neck standing up as I clack clack clacked my way down the empty hall and the motion sensor lights came on. The only sound (usually) was the echo of my boots. I began checking in here in case I was ever murdered and disappeared, the authorities would be able to find my body. But, again. I thought all of this was normal. That is, until I saw co-workers' units that were bright, airy, had new dollies, doors that easily opened, not scenes out of Saw, etc. Once I realized that I didn't have to live like this, I realized that I shouldn't. But just in case there *was* a monster in the old warehouse who was waiting to get me for speaking out, I wanted to make sure that I was far away. My mama didn't raise no dummy. read more

I shopped around a bunch before choosing Self Storage 1 and decided on them because they were low cost and conveniently located in Wrigleyville. I had a couple different interactions with the staff and everyone is super friendly and happy to help. Colin (I think he's a manager?) did a great job of directing traffic in the loading area so that everyone there could load/unload and leave quickly. I came with movers to move into my unit and because they have a back alley and an elevator that opens right into the loading area, we were able to finish moving into my 4x10 unit in 20 minutes. I'd recommend this spot to anyone looking for storage in the Lakeview/Wrigleyville area. read more

Super accessible, a block from the Sheridan red line stop. Clean, bright facilities and fair prices with flexible rental terms. Make sure you bring a lock with you, but if you forget they sell them on site. Office is only open until 6, but 7 days a week which is nice. Plus, if it's available, they have a moving van you can use for free during the first week of your rental. Didn't use that, but if you're looking to save on moving and storage this would be a huge benefit! read more

I've been a customer of this storage unit for 5 plus years now. Like the legitimate famous Yelpers who have reviewed this place, I used this place for my job. For anyone with a long affiliation reading this, I remember when this location had a completely different mailing address, with the kicker being that the building hasn't moved an inch. The entire staff has turned over (several times over) since I first started using them, but they are still the best in the business of four previous locations I've used in various Chicago neighborhoods. The good: *These guys call/email when you receive a package. *Set up Credit card auto pay *Email you all receipts *used to offer incentives for referrals. *& I believe they still offer trucks to move (haven't taken them up on that personally but they've offered myself and friends/co-workers the opportunity). I have all packages of importance sent here, and most importantly I feel safe about it. This place is very secure, as I have not had a thing taken yet. I have one of the smaller spaces on the main floor and it is reasonably priced. If you're anywhere in 60657/60613, you need to take the plunge. The downside is that they trimmed their hours. I remember when they used to open at 6AM and closed at 7PM. They trimmed an hour each way and that cost them their fifth star. I'm a business man and need it at all times, but I'm still a loyal customer and it pretty much suits my needs. Go here feeling safe and knowing you aren't going to pay an arm and a leg for service. This is a good place. If the hours work for you, get it on a temporary or permanent basis. read more

Jaxson helped me out when I needed some storage quickly. Within an hour of making my first phone call I was ready to go. The price seemed okay and the service was outstanding. I wasn't able to use their truck the first day b/c it was a heavy moving weekend and I ended up not needing it at all but still a nice touch.
