Conveniently located (for my needs, anyway), with many units of various sizes. I rented a larger space to store our clutter while our new house was under construction. They now have an app that opens the security gate, which is nice. Our unit remained dry through the rainy days and I never saw any vermin during any of my dozens of visits. There are four access roads within the facility. The two in the middle are nice and wide and allow for vehicles to pass... you are lucky if you score a unit on one of those. The two roads on the sides do not allow passing except where there is a short and narrow turnout. If someone is blocking your way, and they are unwilling to move, you either have to make a very long detour, drive backwards around tricky corners, OR you just have to wait it out for long periods of time. A word of advice - Be sure to cover any belongings that aren't in sealed containers, because the units aren't airtight. The entire facility sits in the armpit of the 405/90 freeway interchange, so everything eventually gets caked with a layer of black/brown soot. It was difficult to lock/unlock our roll-up door. At times I had to resort to dislodging it with a hammer and screwdriver. I also occasionally had to stomp on the door handle to get the bolt to engage. I don't think this was just a quirk with my specific unit, because it was an employee who taught me the stomping technique. (He had clearly encountered this issue before.) By far, the most dreadful part of my experience was the frequent and substantial price increases. In just under three years, I had to endure three hits. After I moved in on July 2022, there were increases of: 14.9% in November 2022 (just four months in!), 13.7% in August 2023, and 12.0% in July 2024. To end on a positive note, I am giving an additional star to my review because of the employees in the office. What a horrible experience. They have such poor security here. The doors are cheap wood doors, and they easily pried off the locking mechanism. Not my actual lock, but the entire structure that keeps it latched. They don't have good video coverage They are constantly raising the rent, which DOUBLED in just over a year, and yet for all I paid out, much of my stuff is now in the hands of criminals. If you value your property, I suggest you find some place more secure than this dump. read more

Moved in end of July - just got a $100 rent increase 4 months later - WTF. I know all all places have rent increases but usually it's minimal and after 6 mos or a year - this is unacceptable and I will be vacating my unit before the increase takes effect - thanks for gauging your customers! read more

Great customer service. We walked in today without an appointment and Doris was able to show us the unit we were looking for right away. She was very informative and helped us through the whole renting process. She even helped answer a few questions we had regarding our other unit. Convenient location and good price made me choose this facility. My mover said he was impressed with the actual unit as the rafters were higher than usual units he's seen, allowing more boxes to be packed inside. Now for the not-so-good things: 1) their security code system is busted so the unique code I was given isn't working. I was given a generic code that is being shared to all new customers so right now, there's no way to track who's coming/going based on that code. On site manager couldn't tell me when it'll be fixed. 2) I was quoted half off the first month though it appears to be only valid in person, or if online, just the day before your date. I was planning to go into the office on the day of my move, but couldn't make it on time so I ended up booking online, only seeing the internet rate, no half off price. And when I tried to get the quoted rate from the on-site mgr, he said their corporate office will probably deny the request since other new customers encountered the same thing. Beware. read more

LARGE UNANNOUNCED RENT INCREASES IS A COMPANYWIDE POLICY AND TACTIC SO IT AFFECTS ALL LOCATIONS, NOT JUST THE ONE I RENTED FROM. Do not rent from Extra Space Storage. 1. Hidden in their agreement is that they can (and do) raise your rent at any time. 2. After ONE MONTH at the advertised rate that I signed up for ($167/mo) they raised it by 50%!!! 3. Without notice!!! 4. Only when I called them on this did they agree to a PARTIAL refund, and would not guarantee future increases would not happen. They will always use the same language: "From time to time customers may be subject to a rent increase due to the competitive blah blah blah." There's no "time to time" about it. They will IMMEDIATELY AND SUBSTANTIALLY GOUGE YOU after you sign up. This *IS* their business model. read more

I dislike storing things but if I must do it I will only do it with extra space storage. I had to store mostly studio lights and a few personal items. The manager at your 5855 Centinela LA Location is absolutely amazing. Vera! I had booked a unit and went to put my things in the other to see that her location was around the corner from my place. So I booked her location for easier access and she's great at being a manager informative, pleasant to talk to and her location was clean and hella secure! Sometimes you just choose a place because you like the experience I chose Vera! And she called the other location just to give them a heads up what I was doing. So when I called to process the move out and a refund it had already been initiated. Talking about above and beyond! read more

Whatever Extra Space Storage you choose, be ready for a huge price increase. We had to move from our Venice location because our 5x10 space kept getting increased $10 to $20 every so often until it was $350 a month. So we moved to another location in Fox Hills where a 5x10 started at $167 and 4 months later jumped to $247 - even worse than Venice! When we complained, the manager Vera Starks said that "was normal." The rate exchange notice blamed "current market conditions." What a scam! read more

Not only did I get a 100% rent increase after just a couple months of being a customer, and am just now learning that this happens after your first two to three months of being a customer, but if this was not audacious enough, get this - they had the nerve to give me the 100% increase in addition to: Bathroom not working - so get ready to leave the site and drive to a restaurant or some other place with a public restroom for non-customers; door doesn't stay open on the magnet so as I, and many others I saw, were bringing in a dresser or clothing rack, etc., the door slammed right into what we were bringing in, where in my case it pushed me and hurt my back for weeks. There is also a tall step to get in through the doorway causing issues with dollies unless you have a $2000+ professional dolly. This happened several times. There are burglaries as well where people get in and bust through walls until they get to a unit holding things they like. Yup! Check your sanity if you still want to rent here. read more

Stay away from this place! They are either horribly incompetent with their security or they are involved in the crimes. Several units were broken into, including my own, where thieves made away with thousands of dollars worth of camera gear. Now the police are telling me that the management at this location are not cooperating with the investigation and withholding access to the security camera footage. Everyone I speak to say they "don't work at this location and are just "covering" and that we need to speak to "Monique" the manager. They are unwilling to provide us with a number or email to contact Monique. They also say they don't know when "Monique" will be around. I have used Extra Storage in NorCal in SF Bay area on 2 different occasions and never thought twice as I locked up and drove away often leaving my items for up to a year without any worry. Sadly I cheaped out on the LA division of this chain and not even 2 months in my unit was burglarized. The lockers are wood and someone pulled the entire door mechanism off without even opening/or breaking the lock. I lost many items of value but mostly items that can never be replaced. They have a manager on property and they say they walk daily to do checks but THIS PLACE IS NOT SECURE. Not enough cameras to cover blind spots on doors with no code required for entry. You don't even need a code to get out of the gates. They remain open to the "renters" for hours after office is closed and it seems the management is not aware of what is going on in their own "backyard" . They say they are fixing things "now" but...Listen to your gut...when i rented the unit in Nov 2023, there were beer bottles all on the INSIDE and there for days outside the entrance to my section of lockers and this gave me concern since all other Xtra Storage places were fairly pristine but i was on a tight deadline. When i had to fly back across the country to take care of this last week, there were more bottles. I mentioned it and was told someone is trashing the place on a regular basis possibly a "renter". It's a little thing but it is someone disrespecting the location and they can't even control that! so PLEASE do your research. Go down the road to the places where SECURITY IS PRIORITY. Where there are steel unit doors and the place is kept clean and under tight supervision. Where management CARES about disrespectful pigs and thieves being on their property. I am heartbroken about this loss not to mention the costs involved to come out there. And i am sure, i will have a fight to get the full amount of coverage as i am seeing now as i start to make my claim, the insurance company is a part of this storage unit conglomerate. Protect your things if you love them and DO NOT RENT HERE even if they are a few bucks cheaper. read more
