This was the first time I ever had a storage unit in my life due to some major changes. When asking around for advice, apparently everyone I've ever known has never had one, so I had to set out on my own. I had heard they were expensive, and they weren't kidding. My first experience was in person with Ashley, and she was able to show me one of the units for size purposes. This was a floor down, and not too far from the elevator. I knew I had to give it some thought and of course by the time I called the location, the unit was sold to another person. From there, I was checking out rates constantly online, and found one for a good rate for the size unit I needed so I jumped on it. When I went in for my reservation, Larissa (Lorissa?) was there to help. I knew I'd have issues with the lock I had to buy, she was extremely helpful and patient with me as I attempted this myself. Since I'm an idiot, I did have some dread that when the time came, all of my larger stuff would not fit into this particular size but I got lucky. I even have some room to move within. I was fortunate to get one on street level, and it's not too far from the desk area. I will say someone in the parking lot once told me he had rat droppings in his unit, showing me photos. He was not even on the street level so I honestly don't know what happened, but I'm pleased to say I've had zero issues with that. I've only visited a handful of times after office hours, and it was tricky at first getting through the gates with the app accessibility, but I feel I mastered it by now. I had actually stopped using the app after a couple months and just memorized my code which was easy enough. Odds and ends: -Note that the restroom does require a key from the front desk, so keep that in mind -I swear there are no trash cans anywhere on site -carts out front (2 orange, 1 yellow at this time) are always out front since people are actually good at bringing them back -Parking lot out front always has spaces available; but be careful coming and going as Durango is also where the line for In-N-Out starts, and these people cannot read the 'do not block driveway' signs -Might as well say it always smells distinctly of the above since it's so close Honestly, this has been a good experience even though the rest of my life was in a questionable state. Even though I was happy when I was able to finally close this out, I still kind of miss going in a weird way; you'd see the same familiar faces, and the desk guy (Otis?) at the end was really friendly. Although my rates went up a little (as they will) during my time there, I still can highly recommend Public Storage on Durango. read more

To whom it may concern, About a week ago I visited this property in hopes of finding an available space to store my things. I was blown away by the young man (Teddy). His customer service was superb! He was very polite and kept a smile on his face the whole time I was there. The aroma of cleanliness filled my nose not only when I walked into the office , in the elevator, in the hallways and also in the restroom which was very clean and together. He gave me a grand tour and had the upmost patience with me. It was quite refreshing might I say to encounter such great customer service. I have rented units from various public storages in the Los Angeles area for years, and I must say that this facility is the best. The manager, Teddy, is friendly and takes amazing care of the facility and his customers. I have had units at this facility for a while, but when Teddy took charge recently, everything got so much better. He's easy to talk to if there is a concern, and he always shows a genuine interest in ensuring I have a positive experience. It's rare to find someone so dedicated and attentive in this industry. The facility itself is well-maintained. Every corner is clean and well-lit. Teddy's commitment to upkeep is evident, and it's clear he takes pride in the property. I had my storage unit for a few years while I lived in a smaller home. Never had any issues while I rented space and was super convenient location. Facilities were clean and no issues with access. I'm writing this review as Teddy has been amazing these last few weeks as I've purchased boxes for my move (which is always a stressful time). Teddy was always there to greet me with a smile and help me with purchases and eventually, with the closing out of my unit. Thank you for making the last few weeks so easy and for a seamless exit! Public Storage needs to step up their game. 1. Half the time there is no one in the office to answer questions etc. One day, the bay doors were closed half the day because no one came to work to open them. Everyone had to go through a regular door with their carts. 2. The building smells like weed when I go in because there are people living in some of the storage units. I have reported them, and given specific unit numbers, but it continues. 3. Twice when I have tried to access my unit, the elevator has been out of service. 4. When you call "customer service" it is one of the most challenging phone menu experiences I have ever had. If I had another option, I would take it. In Los Angeles, Public Storage dominates the market, and their lack of concern over the quality of the facility and the safety of their customers all while continuously raising rates shows they know it. read more

Total fraud. Paying $658 for a stated 10 x 25' storage unit, only to find after paying and signing the paperwork that is actually 7 1/2 x 26... A full 55 ft.², or the equivalent of over a 5 x 10 storage unit less than a stated. Public Storage refuses to do anything about it saying that they state "approximate" square footage, not actual. Approximate would be 8' x 25, not 10 x 25. And, according to Teddy at the front desk there, I am the only person that has ever said anything about it! Talked to a district manager, who said that they would offer me a discount, however, no discount or details actually given, so another lie. Based on the price per square foot they are stating, I should be charged $541-ish for that storage unit, not $658! Thinking about contacting a lawyer. I took a video of the measurements and everything, however, Teddy at the front desk, just shrugged his shoulders and said "well all I can do is contact my district manager." read more

Ok... This is my first hand account... and yes... its all true. Within my first month of being here this place was robbed... I came one night to pick up some equipment for a job to find an undercover cop trying to gain entry... he showed me his badge and confirmed his status with the LAPD and asked me to help in get inside... his 911 code failed and three people were inside robbing the place... of course I helped and was asked to remain in their protection while they conducted a sting to apprehend the suspects... after an hour they arrested the trio and locked the crime scene down... I have footage of the arrest that night on my social media... come to find out this was their 3rd public storage place they robbed in one day... yes count that number 3... how they got access to all three is unknown to me... but heres the part that made me rethink about doing business with public storage... I called their customer service line to inquire about the robbery and given the fact that they robbed 3 different public storages in one day I wanted to know how they were going to secure the buildings and if other customers would be notified about the robbery to secure their valuables... the operator assured me the property manager would contact me.... that weeks ago and I have heard nothing... they will not respond to my inquiries... Customers beware.... if they get robbed they wont warn you, they dont care... and heres how crappy their care for the facility is.... there is one specific employee that loves to walk away from the front desk and lock the doors during business hours... one time I caught her outside talking to her friends for quite some time... leaving the front desk unattended and doors locked during business hours.... There have been a few times I've come to find the doors locked.... and I wont even talk about the customer service... dont expect it.... And the property manager couldn't care less about you as the customer... really.... just dont come here... don't... you can find more secure locations and better service.... I myself am getting the heck out of this unit ASAP.... protect your valuables... the low cost equals low security and poor customer service... facts... dont believe me about the arrest... check out my IG @zombie_warrior84 .... I've been standing outside for 55 minutes, no one is in the office. I even made a reservation online and confirmed it over the phone. This happened last April when I was trying to empty my locker. There is no note on the door and no one answering the phone. I am going to have to pack my stuff up and drive it to a different storage locker. Plus they never have enough carts and the door has been broken for at least two years. I used it because of my proximity. So if you do not show up at your exact reservation time don't just expect them to be in their office during office hours, I mean how ridiculous?! They won't tell you that ahead of time either so don't waste your time. read more

I was unable to make it to the office in time of operation hours so Otis made sure to help setting up reservation to assure we would be able to move out items in the unit. Elevator was broken along will the dollies. Overall the service was impeccable he handled everything with a positive attitude. I dreaded the thought of every aspect of getting a needed storage space. My wife reached out and contacted Matthew at the S. Durango Ave. location. He was phenomenally helpful in every way. Answered all her questions, made suggestions, helped her understand how to set things up remotely. This was a very easy process. When she eventually gave me the information to get to the storage unit she had rented, the whole process was absolutely seamless. I later spoke with Otis, who also was very helpful in answering some questions. This is a good central location for me for picking up my supplies...I've rented through P.S on multiple occasions. The staff is kind and professional however, my unit was dirty...had a really old bottle of milk in the corner that was out of site... I only saw it once I started sweeping my unit and taking the other small pieces of trash out... I generally come in the morning at opening...6 am and there is homeless people living in tents/Van's and smoking crack...not cool... Definitely needs a gate and cameras here...I'm a handyman and feel I have to carry a knife on me here just in case one of these crazies attacks me... Gate and cameras please! read more

In terms of a storage location this place was the closest and most ideal for me. Luckily not only was it convenient but the property itself is clean and well maintained. The manager Robin was one of the kindest, most professional people I have had a chance to deal with. Any sort of questions, no matter how small, he was willing to answer throughly. I have good and could be better comments I gave 4 star because I don't think there's enough people on property if you need them for any questions- I came there one night after office hours and didn't know how to get into the building with the orange gate closed down even though customers can enter after hours no one gave me that info, and another thing was needing to use the restroom and the front desk is not there to give you the key I had to leave and go to Starbucks for that - the stand on the door doesn't go down far enough to keep it open - BUT the helpful Troy gave me the rundown on how to get some of my concerns done, and was happy to show me another unit after talking to him about more space needed etc. He was very patient getting me set up! thanks for that. The people at Public Storage are crooks. Watch out for random 30% price hikes and read the fine print. Management in the building may tell you something contrary to get you to sign the agreement. Terrible business ethics all across the board. read more

Customer service at this location is non existant. My reservation was for Thursday and the only person on site (Java) closed up almost 30 minutes early on a Thursday and was unable to take a cash payment and was unwilling to reopen to do so. She asked that I return Friday and that my $1 reservation was fine. I return Friday morning and was told my $1 move in was not going to be honored. Dont use their online software as they will charge you extra money that you will have to fight to get back. They are trying to automate the process so they never have to show the unit nor do any manual work but they will still charge you a processing fee. Given that when people are onsite, the only thing they seem good at is calling people to remind them their bill is due. The website will also consistently misrepresent the unit size/location so buyer beware. read more

There are homeless people living in the parking lot and on the sidewalk outside the building. The parking lot lights don't come on. The security doors don't work and there is trash every where. The staff has a lot of attitude. The worse part is that they raise the rent every 6 monthes. read more

I hate line of cars that blocks the driveway to go into In n Out and I've requested to have signs put up that read "please do not block the driveway". Why should we have to wait 10-15 minutes while the In n Out lames takes orders and allow the line of cars to block everything up. I pay a fee to access it as needed not to have to wait because people want to be inconsiderate. Create a job for someone to monitor this ASAP at least you will be helping provide a job for someone while eliminating the frustration for paying customers. read more

Ive lived in LA for 2.5 years and have had to put my stuff in storage 3 times. the first time i used a small storage place on Sepulveda. it wasn't well ventilated and they charged me an extra month long after i moved my things out. so the second time I chose Public Storage (many friends have recommend this company). I chose this particular location because it was close to my best friends house, but I have used it again because of the service. The property manager Jasmaine is one of the nicest, most patient people Ive met in LA. The first time I rented a unit here i went on vacation and lost my debit card. I cancelled the card which cancelled my automatic payment; i totally forgot they were linked. After my payment wasn't received Jasmaine called me to tell me my payment was late, and after I told her what happened she was completely understanding and set up the new card with out any penalties. I appreciated her personal service so much I chose to use this location for a second time. I called the 1-800 # to reserve a similar unit. Shortly after I made the reservation I received a call from the property manager. she said she remembered me and would be there the next day when i came to see her. That kind of service and care really means a lot when you have to place the safety of your things in someone else's hands. No matter where I live in LA if i ever need to use a storage facility Ill most defiantly return to this location as long as Jasmaine is the property manager read more

Moving is Stressful. Right up there with divorce & death. The Public Storage facility on Durango near Culver City did everything in their power to relieve this stress. I should be more specific; Kenyon, the incredibly professional and personable Representative is the person responsible for dismissing so much of my moving anxiety and making this part of moving a breeze. Look, a storage unit is a storage unit is a storage unit. We all know what to expect. What I didn't expect was a Representative who was friendly, informed, detailed and honest to God, caring. It's not often that I write a review, much less consider how I could hire away an employee, but I would hire Kenyon in a New York minute. Surprised by these other reviews. The parking lot was clean, the units are climate controlled, there are probably 5 dollies, convenient location, and the building appears to be well lit. LaShaun provided great customer service that was fast, friendly, and clear. So far no complaints. this morning, my wife and I were looking at some extra stuff we weren't quite sure what to do with. We decided to shop around for a small storage unit. I called Public Storage and found a 10'x5' unit for $36 a month. I was told that if I reserved the unit by phone, my first month's rent would be $1 and I would pay a $20 administration fee. There was also an offer to discount the monthly rate by 5% if I agreed to a 3 month term. Since this storage facility was rather close and the price was right, I made the reservation over the phone. Moments later, someone from the storage location called and we arranged to come down later in the day. We arrived and spoke with Joelette, who stated that we'd need to purchase one of their $16 locks -- that the lock I brought with me wasn't acceptable, even though it fit their door. She said I was welcome to use both, although she couldn't provide me with an Joelette as to why their lock was mandaory. It certainly wasn't any better than mine. Since the first month was $1, I figured "ok, I'll pay for the silly lock". Joelette also mentioned that a lot of people forget their keys and end up leaving a spare in the office or pay a $75 fee to have their lock removed. She said my $16 mandatory lock would come with three keys and suggested one for me, one for my wife and one for her. Right. I suspect the "we should hold that third key for you" speech is effective, and it pains me to wonder how many keys are held, how they are secured and who might be rifling through what. We came back to the rental office and the first thing Joelette did was start pushing their insurance, which she said was mandatory and started "at only $8 per month". At this point, my wife and I looked at each other and both decided we were getting scammed. Somehow this $36/month storage became $44, and we haven't even seen the fine print on the contract yet. We decided to leave, much to the shock and disappointment of Joelette We returned home, and I called the Public Storage toll-free number and navigated through their menus, eventually finding a Customer Service Manager who did confirm that the $16 lock is indeed mandatory, although he stated that the purchase of Public Storage's insurance policy was mandatory if we didn't have homeowner's insurance. Joelette never asked if we had a homeowner's policy, let alone owned a home. Although Joelette saw us pull up in a brand new $50,000 vehicle, I guess the fact that we might own a house never crossed her mind. I was given the District Manager's phone number and left him a message to discuss their operation. Public Storage needs to clarify their pricing structure and terms or do away with them entirely. It's completely unfair to be quoted a lowball price over the phone, only to arrive and find out about these extra "junk fees". Public Storage needs to investigate why the office has extra keys to customer storage and what, if any, liability may arise from it. Our decision to not do business with Public Storage was based on a fundamental distrust of the firm due to their business practices. This facility is clean and feels secure. The problem I have had is with their communication. From one month to the next they increased my rent from $168 to $192 without a notice. When I used their online system to ask them about it, they never responded, and they do not return phone calls. I experienced the lack of returning a call on two separate occasions, actually the only two times I tried to get in touch with them. The only way to communicate is to go in person. Also, if you are looking at a units dimensions, keep in mind that a 4 x 5 may not necessarily be four feet by five feet. That is merely there way of saying the unit is approximately 20 square feet. Our unit ended up being just over three feet deep by eight feet long. It worked out well for us due to what we are storing. read more

Recently, I assisted a client who hired me to assist in moving his property from one large unit to another smaller unit in this PS location as the cost of storage had escalated over $200 in a just a few years. We showed up to make the transaction which was more time consuming than waiting in line at the DMV. We spent hours, including the time when the only employee had to stop for an hour lunch break instead of completing the transaction. A few days later I returned with my employee to perform the task of moving and to our dismay, the facility had placed a lock on the new unit. My client was in a meeting and unable to come over right away which left him to pay two employees to sit and wait. When he arrived, the only employee working at the facility on that day was out to lunch. This happened to be the last day of the month we were available to transfer the storage contents without incurring a month's storage fee for both of the units. My client contacted the office of the District Manager to advise him of the situation and alert him that we would return on September 2nd to complete the process. He has not returned the multiple attempts to contact him and charged my client for the entire month despite the fact that he returned the keys on the 2nd day of the month. Be careful before renting here. They will raise the rate without notice and they do rank high on customs service. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service. Imagine a place like this that is actually closed for lunch in the middle of the day when people are needing services and help because they only employ one person who is incredibly slow and has her lunch hour while people have to wait outside and not be served. On top of that if you need a cart to move things, and of course you do, that cart needs to be returned and locked up by 5 p.m. without any notice. We were literally in the middle of moving and the one woman comes up and gives us all sorts of bad looks because it's 5 minutes to 5. They need to learn about customer service and also inform their customers about the hidden price hikes. I just found out that I was paying about $200 more per month on autopay than when I first checked in. Badly run and totally dedicated to their own needs and not the customers. read more
