We had a unit here for a year and everything went about as smoothly as possible. We just needed a place to leave some stuff after moving to SF but before finding a bigger apartment, and this fit the bill perfectly. The unit itself was a standard box, and I don't think we ever saw anyone else in that hallway. The online autopay was really easy, and there wasn't a price increase in the time that we were there. When I checked the internet price of their company, they are still offering low price as I were joining. Scam and scam. Not an honest business they are. Setup It's a very well maintained and managed facility that's close to my in-laws place and we were in the middle of a super quick move. We ended up renting two upstairs units right next to an elevator. Summary I honestly want to rate them a 4 - it's high-end, but not the best I've seen - but I can't because of their level of service. If you're looking for long-term storage of household items, this probably isn't the place because of the expense. If you're looking for short-term storage in a great facility with management that cares or are running a business and need the space (with electrical outlets and lights available!), this is the place. Pros * Their access hours are pretty long and haven't changed because of COVID-19. It really is about getting access to your stuff and not about making it easier on the facility. I appreciate that immensely. * I had a lot of problems with an elevator when I first got the unit, but it's running well now. No magic taps or door slams necessary. It works every time now. I'm glad they cared enough to really fix it. * Moving out was a breeze. I gave notice on a Sunday and I was out on the Wednesday. No fuss, no muss and they even prorated the monthly prepay! Awesome! Cons * You'll get a call if you checkout of the access gate late. It's a bit annoying, but they don't mess around in regards to security, people using the facility as a home, or any late night mischief. * It gets a little pricey after a while as they're not afraid to raise your storage rent 15% every so often if you came in on a super deal. read more

DO NOT STORE YOUR PERSONAL THINGS OR ANYTHING VALUABLE THERE. THEY ARE TOTSL THIEVES We left the state on work assignment so we decided to store all our belongings and all our memories at this place. Furniture, clothe, children trophies pictures, TVs, game systems, total value over $ 65 K. We paid them a very expensive rent for over 18 months (monthly rent $550), total rip-off considering the horrible service they give. They are not personal, they are not considerate and totally uninformative and they are after the good storages to steel them for themselves. After a year an half of paying them and constantly informing them that we are not in state and that I oversee my belongings, I had issues paying them for three month and called them informing them of my statuse and that I will be able too pay it off within a week. The representative informed me and guaranteed me that I will be ok and that he put in the system that I called and that payment will be made. A week later I tried to play my rent on their website, the account stated that I no longer own a unit. When I callled inquiring about the issue they said that simply my belloongings are all gone and sold to an auction. I must have called 20 times to try to speak to a manager, begging for help to stop the auction and that these belongings is all We have and that it is all our memories for the last 20 years. The manager finally contacted me after 3 days saying " we don't keep peoople's Stuff without payment", when I informed her that I have been paying and that I am an old account,.. she was not simpathetic or appreciative of the situation. I also informed her that I was told by her employee that I am still good and that I will be able to make payment, she responded, " we have no record of such calls. These people do not care about your stuff, they will charge you the most expensive rent and then they willl steal your life belongings and sell it for profit. Very irritated by the fact that I cannot pay my bill online, over the phone or by the mobile app because none of these methods work. Up until last month I was paying my bill online and through the mobile app, but the website has suddenly stopped working and the app won't let you log in. I went into the location today in hopes of figuring out a solution to my problem, but was met with no solution. The woman I talked to had no options for me. She gave me a card with step-by-step instruction to logging on, even though I told her I have been logging on for a year now, on the same computer, in the same location. She said she didn't know what to tell me; her only suggestion was to sign up for auto-pay with my debit card, which I don't want to do. When asked if I should call them in regards to my account not working online or call the 1-800 number, she again said she didn't know what to tell me. Lame service, and it's ridiculous that I now have to stop by to pay, (and during business hours because they don't have a payment drop box). My rate also goes up every 6 months, and it's pretty high for the size of my unit. I wish I hadn't rented from here, because if the workers can't help me solve my problem, who will? read more

Excellent storage place! The staff here is really friendly especially Selma. I never had an issue with my unit and they were always prompt in fixing any problems I had with my bill or unit. The place overall is really clean and well maintained. There is plenty of space to move all of your things and the hours are reasonable. There are plenty of dolleys to help you move things and I've rented units from several building in this extra storage and I've never had any problems with the elevators. I know this is a huge problem at other places. I paid $60 for a decent size unit for a couple of years with no problem. Do you need a place to put all your useless crap? Don't let the 3 star average fool you. So far, I've had a 5 star experience with this location. The staff is super friendly, attentive, and saved me from a lot of stress and headache! Most reviews seem to complain about the storage rate increases that happen after 6 months of storage. I can't speak to that as I'm only storing my possessions here for a shorter duration, so bear that in mind. ------------ PT1 of 5-star experience: As this was my first time ever using a storage center, I was pretty paranoid/wary about all types of concerns: safety, ease of retrieval, mold, security, etc. It's been about 1.5 weeks since I've stored my items, and so far, it's been an excellent experience. When I first found Extra Space Storage, I saw that their rates were a bit better for the space I was looking for than their competitors. I reserved a spot, and of course, got a phone call immediately to confirm the booking. They also strongly suggested that I come in to sign the paperwork and check the storage unit before the day of move-in, so I could make sure that the space accommodated my needs. I'm really glad that they suggested that, because what I found was that I needed an even smaller space. My consultant, Luvi, also listened and heard what I was really saying -- I needed an even smaller space, but I also wanted to pay less and save some $. The smaller space that they had available wasn't offering the same promotion rate that I saw online... until Luvi asked me if I'd be interested in signing a contract on that day if she was able to offer me that promotion. This is something I don't know if I'd have known about (or it would have taken more time to figure out anyway) if I waited until the day of move-in. So, that got approved by her manager and I was a happy camper. Luvi was very thorough in explaining how to get to my storage space and answered any other questions that I had. I moved in without any issues and the space was a perfect fit. --------------- PT2 of 5-star experience: I also went back a second time to drop off additional items, but this time, I was in a bit of a rush as it was a Friday night. Saturday morning, I get a phone call from Chris (who was also present during my contract signing) and he informs that I hadn't placed my lock on correctly. I didn't know what he meant by that, and he strongly urged me to come in ASAP to fix it. Kind of annoyed as I was all the way in SF, I debated whether to wait until Sunday night to go and fix it. So, I begrudgingly went... and EXTREMELY glad that I did. I had put the lock on *completely* wrong; so wrong that that someone could have easily accessed my storage space. I didn't realize that the storage facility did their due diligence so... diligently. I mean, the turnaround time for them noticing this error was less than 24 hours. On my way out, I was just about to call Chris to thank him until I saw him drive by and was able to do it in-person. Luvi and Chris are the two types of people you want to trust your storage needs with, and I'm so glad my experience w/ them has been so positive. The rate increases every 6 to 8 months from the time your 1st months 6 months rental is over. No long term contracts. Not very competitive in regards to pricing thereafter. (i.e. - I noticed a different on-price for the unit that I was already currently renting. I called to inquire but the rep. said that because I was already a customer, I couldn't get on-line rate. Hence, the reason I was online looking for storage was because my current rate had increase twice within a 12 month period - I'd rather take my business else where rather than be treated differently because I am already an existing customer. Seems that keeping an loyal existing customer isn't that important) Be sure to give notice of your vacate "BEFORE" paying next months rent. After you have paid, they will NOT give refunds of any unused rent for that rental period. HOWEVER, if you give notice before paying for next months rent, you can prorate your last month's rent so that you will only pay for the days you will use in your final month. Simply let the store manager know at the time before you make your last payment/ payment is due/ date of your CONTRACT payment. read more

If I could give a Zero star I would. They are in the business of SELLING people's stuff and not STORING. They attracted us with one month free. We stored our life belongings because my husband got a job overseas. We were with them for 2 years, and every time we would call for service it is either a very unprofessional response or a person who can't understand English. The Manageress is a horrible human and the leader of it all. She lies and she does not care. We were late for our payment and when we called the office, the person who answered the phone assured me that we still have time for payment. When I tried to pay the following week they told me it was too late and that all our home, life belongings is gone and auctioned. I tried to speak to the manager but could not get hold of her for 4 days and she would not call back. When she did she said exactly this " we are not in the business of storing people stuff for free" no care in the world and no service attitude. Horrible and cold human being. When I tried to contact the main operators, their response was " we see in the system that the manager took care of the problem"???? Really???? That is all you have to say after you stole and sold our stuff. My advice to everyone DO NOT BE FOOLED and store you stuff there because their mission is to sell it and profit out of it. The former AAAA Self Storage recently upgraded their office, added bathrooms, and finally added elevators. The staff is relatively friendly, but some aren't really willing to help, i.e., give discounts or help you lock the door (The guy said he was on lunch break!). Beware of hidden fees, i.e., administrative fees and most especially customer insurance, which they say is a requirement. Beware, too, of the ridiculous rate increases, which seem to happen too frequently (less than a year)! read more

Started out great. The person helping me on the phone was helpful and was able to reserve my space with zero hassle. Told me reservation was good for 7 days and I can just go in and fill out the paperwork the day I'm moving in. The day of move in, I have my movers on their way and I just finished filling out paperwork. NOW they lay on me that they need me to purchase their insurance or they can't rent me the unit. Zero mention of insurance in previous quotes/conversations, no other storage facility has even offered insurance, but Extra Space basically demands I buy their insurance. After much anger and unpleasantness, they allow me to sign a waiver of insurance. Total BS since half the rental contract is stating they are not responsible for damage, theft, nature, etc. No other issues after this. Clean storage place and what appears to be good security. Today, 3 months after I move in, I get a letter they are raising my rent from $300 to $401 starting next month. That is correct, a 34% rent increase in 4 months. The letter clearly stated it was within their right to increase rent. No argument there but ethical business practice? Since this is my only experience with Extra Space Storage, I have to assume this is normal business practice. I've had other storage units at other facilities and I've never been offered, much less forced, insurance and I've never seen rent increase this high or this early into the rental agreement. They must assume most renters will just take the hit since moving will require me to spend hundreds on movers and days of my time. I'm moving now out of fear of what they will pull next. Unethical business practices bordering on scam. Go somewhere else for storage because no other storage business has tried to scam me like Extra Space. read more

Beware of Extra Space Storage Increasing Fees Significantly! Go With Local Storage Company. When I signed the contract in July 2014, I was surprised to read that they could raise their rates anytime. This didn't seem right to me. When I asked the manager, Selma, about this, she said they rarely raise the rates. But, after only 3 months of paying the contract amount of $160, I was sent a notice that the monthly rate was going up $20. When I called the regional office they said that they raise rates every 5 months or so. I asked him why that wasn't stated clearly in the contract, he didn't have a good answer. He said that I was given two months notice on the increase and could move to a new storage company if I didn't agree with the contract. Well, that is just what I am going to do. After calling around, I found that it is only the big, chain, storage companies that do this. I will be going with a reputable, local company with better customer service and much more integrity. read more

I was very disappointed to hear that after moving out my things I would not be getting my refund back. They told me that after I signed my rental agreement they had changed there policy to keep prorated refunds and not reimburse customers the balances owed after moving out. Lady was giving me some type of run around as to why I need to give a 2 week notice before I can move my things out? You do NOT have to buy insurance, tell them you want to sign the opt out form for insurance, they have an opt out form standing by. If they look confused or look at you like you're crazy, just look back like they're crazy for trying to force insurance on you. Yes they reserve the right to raise your rent every 6 months, They will do so for at least the first two 6-month cycles. They say they give you notice, but at other Extra Space facilities, I was given no notice, so watch the bank statement if you do automatic bank transfer. It may be worth playing the system and move to another of their facilitates when they raise rent. Unless you get a move-in special, they charge a $22 one-time move in fee. Also it may be a good idea to measure your unit for the smaller units, I wager mine is on the small side of the square feet I am paying for. read more

I rented a 10x10 drive-up unit in Sept 2007 for the web rate of $172 a month. In four years the rent went up 6 times and when I closed it Friday it was up to $275. When I googled the address for the movers I saw that they had the price for my unit listed as $208 (web rate) and $245 (on-site rate). I feel like they ripped me off for several years. If you rent from them you better keep an eye on their "posted" rates. read more

I just had the worst customer service experience at this location. I have a unit and have packages delivered here. On more than 1 occasion, my packages have been delivered to the wrong unit. I have to spend time, with an associate that works for the facility, looking for my packages in other customer units. I had an order of 21 boxes shipped here. The office logged that I received 9 boxes. 17 were delivered to me. 3 were delivered to Someone else's unit, and 1 is still missing. I contacted the manager at the facility, who basically said that all packages were delivered and is not taking responsibility. This is horrible customer service. I am awaiting to hear from the district manager. I will find my missing merchandise and move from this facility. I do not recommend this facility unless you do not mind not receiving all of your packages. read more
