It was difficult to secure a 1 way this time of year from Cambridge to midwest. U-Haul dispatch in MA confirmed everything the Monday before pickup. Truck in excellent condition. Drove it 2 days west and will drop it next week at another location. We did see 2 big bugs in truck interior but were able to kill these before loading items. When we arrived, one of the employees said "I'm going to have to charge you for that", with no context on what he was referring to. It took about a week to fill them with all our stuff. They're nest-able when empty and stackable when full. On moving day, our crew was thrilled that everything was ready to go and in such handy crates. It was raining, so cardboard boxes would have been a nightmare. It took about 5 days to empty them, and Alex arrived on time to pick them up from my new place. Amazing!! Highly recommend. And more eco-friendly, since the crates can be re-used many times. He let me out of a faculty meeting. This was a big favor. I worked hard to meet these movers halfway! But then on the day of the move, the movers called to say "Hey, we're done early today. She claimed that she called me twice, but my phone said she hadn't. My phone ALWAYS picks up the missed calls. Her movers were certainly able to reach me via the same number. I was robbed. I went over the contract. It states "If you return after store hours, verify the…read moreequipment return on mobile device by going to uhaul.com/share. Or you can choose to have a U-Haul Representative verify it for you the next business day. There is $20.00 convinience fee for this option." So since I did verification of the equipment return on mobile device while I was dropping off the truck. That should have covered the $20.00 convinience fee. But, U-Haul decided to charge me just because I dropped off the key after hours, although I did the verification on the mobile phone.  Basically, U-Haul decided to rob and steal money off of a customer. Very dissappointed by the how thing were handled. Because i E-mailed about this fee to the genral manager, Arcturus Johnso, and I STILL owe the $20 fee even after following the steps as it is stated on the CONTRACT. I did not know U-Haul was a thief that steals money from customers. General manager stated unless if the trucks are returned in person, there is a $20 fee. The general manager, he himself does not know the company policy.

Two suggestions for the business: * Giving narrower time windows would be a big convenience boost to customers. No one wants to wait around all day to receive a delivery. * It'd be great if you offered boxes (reusable or not) for things like picture frames, TVs, or anything else too big to fit in the green crates. Those kinds of boxes are a hassle to buy, and a hassle to dispose of. It's something customers would be happy to pay extra for.

Before booking, I was quoted approximately $480-$560 to move a single couch from Chicago to Madison at a rate of $160 per hour with a three-hour minimum. Their website advertised that the hourly rate included the truck, movers, gas, tolls, mileage, insurance, and furniture protection. Based on those representations, I reasonably believed transportation-related costs were already factored into the quoted estimate. Imagine my surprise when my final invoice came to $960 -- approximately 71% higher than the estimate. The invoice included 3.5 hours of labor and an additional 2.5 hours of travel time, adding $400 to the final bill. My issue is not simply that the move cost more than expected. My issue is that the estimate, website advertising, and billing structure did not align. The website repeatedly states that transportation costs are included, while elsewhere disclosing that travel time is billed separately. Important pricing information appears buried deeper in the website rather than alongside the headline pricing. I also found multiple hourly rates listed throughout the website, making it difficult to determine what pricing actually applied. Had I known the move would cost nearly $1,000 rather than the quoted $480-$560, I would have obtained quotes from other moving companies before booking. To make matters worse, after filing a claim, I was informed by the claims administrator that the review process can take up to 120 days and that no status updates would be provided during that time due to call volume. As a customer, being told to wait up to four months without any updates does not inspire confidence that concerns will be addressed promptly or transparently. The movers themselves were polite but unprofessional. The pricing transparency, billing practices, and claims process left me extremely distressed as this was a gift for my mother and I had saved up for it. I would strongly encourage anyone considering this company to get detailed written clarification regarding travel-time charges and total expected costs before booking.
