We moved a household out from the east coast... and were looking for 2 reasonably priced units. Not easy to find in SD! Extra Space seemed ok... until they blew the price up significantly. I understand some increase, but this was a lot! I called to negotiate but the guy on the phone was rude and impatient. His supervisor was helpful, but none deserves a Loyd voice talking over you. The units are clean and well cared for but the bathroom is atrocious! Filthy! Come on! For those rates, you can afford a cleaning service and provide toilet paper! read more

This place has been in business, I was told, for 5 years(as of this date Sept2014). You wouldn't know it. Everything is super shiny clean. I mean REALLY CLEAN! No dust on anything including the a/c ducting over head). Oh, and the AC is cranked up on these HOT 100+ degree days in El Cajon. What blessing when I'm struggling to get trips in back & forth. They've got nice clean freight elevators- NOT STAIRS!! And don't bring your dolly. They've got moving carts to make the move smooth and easy. The security system is high tech. You need a pin code to get the elevator up to your floor. AND!! It will only take you to YOUR FLOOR. No sneaking on with some other customer. It logs in each customer who uses any of the code access doors and video monitored and recorded. I feel my "stuff" is safe & secure. An A+ experience. read more

These people are money hungry, charging me for insurance for 5 months, and trust me I have called, and I was told to go in person to remove the insurance. One 3 words ask for Seandra !!!! She has been very very helpful , polite , and professional. From customer service over the phone to in person meeting. I schedule a HUGE storage and she was able to assist and hold and did many follow up calls which helped because I'm very forgetful on scheduling and timing. My issue is that I specifically went out of my way to utilize this facility based on the price they were offering. 2 months into my lease on this storage unit, and while on a extended deployment, I received an email notifying me that the rate was increasing $20 per month. That's a significant increase, especially less than 2 months into a lease after committing myself to putting my stuff here. Unreasonable rates for that area. Response by management was a cookie-cutter statement as well. If you're going to take the time to respond to a customer, don't send me a canned narrative response. Thank you read more

I trusted them with my entire life's worth of belongings while I went on a 3-month trip out of the country. After my final lasting impression at this location, I would only trust them with the garbage I wanted to dispose of! All employees are kind and courteous, but management needs to get up on the training game! When I first moved into the unit, I had a long conversation with the staff member that we wanted both myself and my boyfriend on the account. They took my boyfriends ID and Insurance and NEVER put him on the account. It all came to a boil over when we noticed items missing from our unit upon moving out. Since the insurance was in my boyfriends name, and the unit in mine only, it was just another hassle to overcome with the lack of training of the staff there. There is some shady activity at this facility. We witnessed other tenants steal right before our eyes and also encountered a gentleman that had his flat screen stolen right from his locked unit by someone that scaled the gate and squeezed themselves between a barely there crawl space. Security is weak here and incompetent training of the staff did not help me. Immediately when we noticed items missing from the unit we called the storage facility and asked them what proper steps I should take to report the issue to my insurance. The employee could not help me, he told me to call back when the manager is there. SERIOUSLY?!?! Your in the business of protecting and securing people's personal property and there is no POLICY in place to follow if someone says there are items missing!?! What a joke. Management, get a policy in place. Train your staff to know how to open an account properly and how to handle the loss of an item on your property! read more

Perfect Extra space storage is hands down the best storage option and solution to personal and business storage needs. I recently had three different storages, in three different locations. primarily for my business, and some for personal storage needs. It's been a huge difference coming from my other two storage facilities; A1 in La Mesa and All storage in Encinitas. I've learned when picking a storage location, your Experience at that location is all about the people who run it. Instantly some of my storage stress that I had been experiencing was relieved, as I walked through these doors. The building itself is awesome!! huge hallways tall ceilings bright lighting and even covered and shaded parking at the entrance. So moving the items I move became much more efficient, I buy and sell and refurbish furniture so a lot of my items are large. The forward thinking design of the building allows good movement through the building. . Rachelle the manager and Tony were super friendly, they instantly knew how to match my storage needs with the correct storage size, space location, month to month costs along with placing me in the correct promotions that were available to me. I was able to tour each space and from day one it has been a massive difference between the other two storage facilities. I was thinking of using this location as an overflow for my storage needs. But know it has become the main location and only location use. Check out Consumer Affairs and you'll see that this is a corporate decision, happening across the county. I have rented a unit here since they opened. The facility is always clean and well-maintained. As for security, the place is difficult to get into. You get code to get onto the property, the door code to get into the unit complex and then your key to open your lock to your unit. All while being video monitored from the moment you step out of the property. Yes you can piggyback and follow someone else in to the gated area, But you're not getting out without a gate code. and if it's after hours you're stuck there. There can be some shady characters in and out of their storage units but unfortunately, if you rent a storage unit there, they have just as much right to be there as you do. There is one issue that is completely out of the hands of the on-site live in manager. Every three months or so you will get an incremental rate increase on your monthly rent. If you commit to a year-long lease then the number stays fixed for one year. After that one year, the rate starts creeping up. 3 months after your anniversary date, 6 months after your anniversary date, and once on year after that. I don't like it, but I understand it. The facility took $10 million to build and is less than five years old. It's the newest building on that entire street and Extra space storage wants there money back. I am a big fan because my belongings are safe. It may be a little extra money, but it's well worth the cost. Here's a question... When it comes to your most prized possessions and your irreplaceable family heirlooms that have been passed down from generation to generation. Do you really want to put your trust into the lowest bidder? read more

Total rip off! Your rental rate starts out fair, but since they only allow month to month, they hike it up about every three months. A rental that started at 78 dollars is now almost 100!!!! And, they sent the last notice in the mail dated early so it looks like I would receive it in time to give notice to vacate, but it actually reached me AFTER I paid what will now be my final month. Per their policy, that means even though I am giving 15 days notice(which is allowed) and should be eligible to get back the prorated amount, I will not get any money back and they can rent it to someone else asap and have two people paying rent on the same unit.
