The site manager deserves 5-stars: helpful, friendly, readily available if you have questions. I have nothing but good things to say :) Also for being a storage facility, I thought it was kept pretty clean and in pretty good condition. Units are in good shape, well lit, easy to access... I did see that there were a lot of comments about the facilities, but honestly, they seem comparable to most similar storage facilities in the area. Just standard units with various sizes, indoor/outdoor/temp controlled options and garage doors style openings. More importantly, the temp controlled area doors were always closed in my experience, which is reassuring, because you pay a higher rate for that. During business hours (when staff were onsite), I would occasionally see the gates were left open, but never doors. I don't know if that was for staff to have easier access, but I never experienced that after hours. I would also say that I felt the site Manager (or corporate?), were very prompt in communication. There was a sprinkler that had gone off somewhat near my unit and I received prompt notification about the incident and to come in to assess any damage to my things (I pay for insurance each month). The actual sprinkler was not in my row of units or on the same end of the rows, but I appreciate being notified so that it wasn't a surprise if I came in and there were issues. I give the overall experience 4 stars because it did become very pricey and it seems the only way to avoid these price hikes is to just move your stuff to a different storage facility (and who needs the hassle?). I had stored my stuff here for 4 years in a 10x10 indoor, temp controlled unit. I will be transparent about my pricing experience: Jan 2020: $290 Jan 2021: $296 July 2021: $345 April 2022: $390 August 2023: $393 May 2024: $454 The May 2024 jump was pretty larger and more than I was willing to continue to pay and I did contact the business directly to work out a deal for a few months until I ultimately down-sized enough that I didn't need it (It was very easy to cancel, no fuss). I just want to point out that it was never double and I was always notified in advance off the next month rate increase. I don't agree how the corporate-levels of these facilities operate. It does drive up prices unnecessarily, randomly and by jumps that are hard to manage. I do think there are scam-esque qualities, but that is an economic policy argument and note a review :) So suffice it to say that overall, storage is pricey, but this was a very nice facility and experience overall. read more

Allan is the storage manager and was so helpful and friendly! I stopped by today to tour the storage unit facility and pay for a unit. Allan answered any questions I had, as well as made sure I was aware of all the loading decks, how to get in, how to use the locks, etc. By the end of our tour I was extremely confident to sign a lease and felt safe with the property/where my stuff was being stored. Pricing options were great and Allan was very transparent on working with me if needed come renewal time when rates will eventually go up. The process to get a unit was smooth and fast, which I appreciated a lot during the stress of moving. I definitely recommend Extra Space Storage :) Malik and Allan are both great! read more

I have rented a range of sized units from huge exterior to medium interior and never had issues with access, security, or vermin. I love this storage facility! I've stored things in the DC location on River Road and at the Reston VA location, as well. The staff is super accommodating as I had a small space and then a larger space and they worked with me to meet the dates that I needed to switch. The place is clean and secure and accessible for long periods of the day. I recently found space in my house to store my things so I emptied out the unit I was renting, but if I ever need to store things again, I'll definitely use this company's facilities. read more

It's a scam. They raised my rent by 60% after three months. Avoid this place at all costs.

They doubled my rent in one year. Doubled. The price may be around the current market for space, but this is an ancient facility where its not unusual to find a broken gate, or gates simply open, and much of the other facility features outdated. Be warned that they will significantly increase your rent regularly, and not by a small amount. This industry is a racket and Extra Space is no different. For the price however, go to a more modern facility. read more

Looking for storage? Look no further! Extra Space storage in Reston is fantastic. Especially, their customer service! I originally booked a reservation online for a 5x5, which was quick and easy. The following day I received a courtly reminder call from Brittany, confirming my reservation. Because I'm somewhat impulsive, I walked in the day before my move-in day to see if I can get and see the storage unit that day. That's when I met and worked with Jay. He was absolutely phenomenal! He listened to what I needed and efficiently booked me a storage unit. He also showed me where the best and easiest loading point are located in proximity to my unit. The next day which was move-in day, I didn't realize my dad had soooo much stuff... I then met with Jay, told him my dilemma. He quickly transferred me to a larger storage unit 5x10 (All within my tiny window of a lunch break) Thank goodness! Jay is so great and accommodating. He is the man. I'm a big fan of amazing customer service at its definitely fantastic here. I'll be referring everyone to Extra Space storage! I'm not sure where all these reviews for cleanliness are coming from. I just rented a climate controlled unit and as I go to move in, I find mouse droppings in all four corners of the unit, dead roaches in three corners and a live roach in the hallway. Storage can be a huge hassle for a number of reasons- but NOT at this location of Extra Space Storage! We have had the most wonderful experience moving in. The rates were absolutely reasonable, the facility is clean and accessible, and most of all, Brittany was so lovely. She answered every one of our questions and helped us to book our unit FAST. After years of using Extra Space Storage, during which my husband and I always paid for the entire year in advance, we received a curt email telling us that our payment was a few days past due. Normally we get an email BEFORE the expiration date as a reminder. Not only did that not happen, but we were informed that the price per month was going up AGAIN. We were charged $302 for ONE month. When my husband wrote to ask why we were assessed a ten dollar fee... The Minors could not be bothered to reply to his email. My husband also told them that the light in our unit was not working. It had not been working for almost a year. They did not bother to reply to that nor did they bother to ever fix the light. We decided to go somewhere where our patronage is appreciated, it is more convenient and more than half the price of Extra Storage. We were moving our things out last Saturday and since the tiny trash container was packed to the gills, we had a lot of boxes to throw away. We set them out in the hall (right in front of our unit) until which time we moved our things out and had room to put the stuff we were throwing back in the unit. The Miniors had no problem writing us yet another snippy note threatening to assess a fee if we did not remove the trash. Of course by the time we got home and read that email, it was moot as we had taken care of it already. Clearly the Minors can send emails... They just choose not to respond to their customers' inquiries. My husband closed out the account with Extra Space Storage today. Of course we were told that they would not give us a pro-rated refund for the remaining days in August. That's just how they roll. I feel much better having moved our things. If you are going to over-charge... At the very least be more courteous to your customers. Just saying. read more

Look this place is nice and the people working there are nice. No question. However, Extra Space lures you in with cheap rates. Then, once you're in, proceeds to raise your rates over and over and over again. It's a predatory practice in my opinion and unethical. As we prepare our house for selling after 28 years, it's time to start the "staging" process and clear out some things we won't need until we move. That means packing and storing items until we move. i found two self-store, climate-controlled facilities are within three miles of our house. ExtraSpace Storage was one, and the first one I checked. I stopped by ExtraSpace first, and called a halt to the search. Walter and Trina were great. A unit was available that met our needs, the facility and the unit were clean. The monthly cost was competitive. Trina showed the unit to me, explained the rental process and costs, and within 20 minutes I reserved the unit. I just rented a space here about a month ago and I could not be more pleased. Walter and Trina, the managers, live on the premises and are absolutely wonderful people! Trina took a lot of time showing us around and was very friendly and informative. Here are some of the truly GREAT things about this facility: one huge advantage is the fact that this is a one story facility, so all spaces are on the ground floor which makes loading and unloading a breeze; you can pull right up to the loading dock (no steps or raised platform); indoor, outdoor, and climate controlled spaces are available; the place is spotless and extremely well maintained; security is very tight (access to both the storage facility area and loading dock require entering a 7 digit code) so you can rest easy knowing your items are safe and sound. If you're looking to rent storage space, this is definitely your best bet hands down! I cannot recommend them highly enough! read more

First time using a storage unit. I couldn't be more happier than the service I received. I showed up a couple of minutes after they closed, and they still let me in. They stayed almost an hour after closing showing me multiple units. They were both very friendly. Walt is former military, and his facility looks ready for inspection. The place is very clean, well lit, and kept at a comfortable temperature. There are separate men and a women bathrooms. I did not go into the women's room, but the men bathroom was spotless. They made the whole experience easy. They have 24/7 monitoring of the place. Walt gave me his cell phone number just in case I forget my password to get in. You can rent month to month and they only require two day notice before leaving. So to sum up: very easy process, very clean facilities, and very nice people. Ok for very short-term storage. If you need to store stuff for a longer period of time, expect your rent to increase substantially from year to year. We are now paying $133 per month for a 5 x 5 climate controlled unit. Yes, that's right --- $133 per month for a 5 x 5 unit. I pay less per square foot for Class A office space in Reston. read more

Great experience. Walter is so pleasant, knowledgeable and makes you feel like family. He and his team keep the place in spotless condition and you can tell they care about their renters and your belongings. We had to relocate out-of-state and wound up having to put just about our entire house into a 10x20 unit for almost an entire year. It's a bit unsettling to think about all of your stuff being out of your reach for that long, but I felt comfortable and confident in the team at this facility. Being that it was so long, we lost our lock key and gate code but Trina was super helpful on the day we moved out and it wasn't a big deal. I would definitely rent from them again!
