I've found myself having to move a long distance away for work with not a lot of time to get my life here in the Bay Area put away so I can head down to Southern California for work. I needed to get my things in storage ASAP and found Extra Space Storage to be more than accommodating to my tight time frame. I was able to reserve a unit online with a very quick phone follow up by Jerry and an appointment to come in the next day and take look at the storage unit I had reserved. He showed me the unit the next day and also showed me a couple other units in case I found a smaller unit that might be suitable and cost effective. I was in and out with a unit to store my things for a short while in less than an hour. The only stumble so far is a platform cart with a stuck wheel that I've had to deal with the past few days. read more

I had the best experience last week and this week. I transferred units and I worked with Vanessa. She was very helpful and provided exemplary customer service. It made my transfer smooth. The complex is clean and well lit. There are security cameras in place so that it appears that your items are secure against theft or you should at least be comforted that any thieves would be caught. The staff on the other hand is awful. One manager named Carol was notified of the passing of a family member and when I went to close out his account, she avoided my calls and then tried to charge me for an additional month when she prevented me from moving the items before the next billing cycle. Her replacement is just as bad. I told her that water was leaking from the roof into the building and she told me that she does not work on Sundays and would not do anything about it until Monday even though there was a big puddle in the middle of the hall. This review is well overdue. I advice to whoever rent a storage unit from this facility get the drive up storage units because the indoor storage units get broken into frequently. When I decided to change my drive up storage to an indoor storage unit. Months later I come to my indoor storage unit to come to find out that it has been broken into when I brought it up to the property management they called the police and they did an investigation and could not find no one going into the units and the police even advised myself that I need to sue them because they should have changed the door hinges because they are super old. WoW, the police had to tell me that. So, I'm glad I got the insurance which isn't much because Im still taking a loss becasue my personal information was also stolen. And the storage said they couldn't do anything but to move my storage unit. Why would I have want to stay any longer knowing the fact that my stuff whatever was left was still going to be potentially stolen out of their facility. Just because something's cheap doesn't mean that's the best way to go. I will never be back and regret even bringing my items to establishment. read more

I just started renting from this storage facility. Pricing seems to be one of the best around the Bay Area, and I certainly enjoy my first month free with online reservation! Reservation and move in worked out well. Was so glad they have a fork lift there to move my palettes close to the elevator. Staff was super nice in person as well as on the phone whenever I called with a question. Would definitely recommend this place. read more

This group is awesome. Excellent customer service. Willing to do whatever it takes to help your move go smoothly. We moved cross country and had issues with the movers coming and going. Pros: There used to be some, but I can't remember what they were. Cons: PREDATORS! THIS IS A SCAM!!! They raise their prices every 5 MONTHS, although they do not openly disclose this to you. It is worse than a predatory lending company or one of those low-class "Pay Advance" stores. This place is a bait and switch joke, but the joke is on the customers. I could go on and on, but my head is hurting right now. They INTENTIONALLY dodge calls and make it difficult to pay, so they can tack on the outrageous "late fees." I'll be taking my complaints to the BBB and the CA Consumer Protection agency, just to start. I've never been so disgusted with a business for shamelessly fleecing it's own customers. NOT SAFE PLACE! - Got items stolen I had a small unit there for the last four years without an incident till this last March that I came back to move out and found that all the items at the front side of the room were stolen. There were not signs of forced entry and the lock was still there. The management refused to check the security camera video arguing that they erase all after 2 months.... WTF!?? Police is investigating now and preliminary hypothesis is that this is an insider job because the master key of the lock could been used. I made the mistake of purchasing the lock they sell under their own brand.. Please stay away of this place. Staff is rude, and they were very different and not helpful when the incidence happened. I will update this review as soon as police updates on the investigation. Other issues are: - They start with low rent fee, but they increase a lot year by year... not worth it. - It looks somewhat safe from the outside... little bit cheap in the inside. read more

Five stars for the gentleman who helped me in the office (I believe his name was Graham or Grant). He spent half an hour on the phone with me trying to untangle a billing mix up (not their fault but a combination of my bank canceling my debit card to send a new chip card and mine for never updating my contact info properly) and was able to get things back to where they were! I've had a unit here for 5 years or so and glad to say I have no reasons to leave. Thank you for taking the time and helping out and being patient and cordial all the way through. read more

I previously reviewed this storage rental, and now that I've closed out, am giving it a second rec. The staff were wonderful and the space was clean, well-lighted, easy to navigate. They did raise the rates slightly twice during the 15 months I was there, and if you already have renters' or homeowners' insurance you may not need the insurance they want to add on -- it's optional but they push it. But still, as self-storage goes, it's a good one. read more

The staff is very helpful and nice. While there are no guarantees, the facility appears safe and well kept. However, after just ~6 months, I got a 10% rent increase without prior notice and it appears from a previous review that I should be expecting another in a few more months. When I contact the local office to ask about the increase, they could give little information. If the next rent increase is similar in size, I may have to start looking around for an alternative. read more

Got an upstairs unit and the lift didn't work. I called and called the front desk but no one answered, which required me to walk all the way back to the front office. There was only one person there. I told her the problem and she said i needed to wait. The guy she was helping say he didn't mind waiting, but she continued on. I waited some more then I told her I wanted to switch to a bottom unit and I needed to hurry because I was paying the movers and I needed to go to work. She said she didn't work well under pressure and i should calm down. I asked for a lower level unit for no extra charge because of the inconveince. She she no that she's not allowed. The other guy that was fixing the lift told me that we could use another lift even thought the other lift was really far away and the movers were moving heavy furniture and appliances. Terrible, terrible terrible service. Never again! read more

Beware: That seemingly low rate they give you is only good for six months. Also keep in mind that their building interiors are mostly plywood, particle board, 2x4s and sheetrock and there is no fire suppression system, fire or smoke detection or fire alarms installed. If a fire breaks out, a hand held fire extinguisher is their only defense (if someone is there to use it). read more

um, they get one star for a clean site, staff was ok, but boy oh boy do they raise your rate about 3 time a year greater than the rate of inflation or any raise that you may receive from employment, at an average of 5 - 10 % for each time they do so. i would not use these guys and review that's give them a 5 star - i would bet was self written there is no way in any one's "good" mind you would do so. if you decide to go here PLEASE ask about the rate increase and negotiate if that possible to no more than 2% a year and get it in WRITING other wise you're gonna' get SCREWED!!! read more
