Arrived for my appointment today for a routine eye exam only to be told the doctor would not see me unless I consented to a digital retinal exam, which would cost me an additional $40 out of pocket. So I said no thanks and left. Doctors are welcome to recommend tests/procedures and present the risks/benefits, but as the patient it's my right to decide which tests I have done. Refusing patients because they decline an expensive and arguably unnecessary test is unethical. read more

Second year coming here and so far it has been a great service and they have excellent communication throughout the process. The office respect your appointment time and even works on Saturdays which I appreciate a lot. I usually go here for my eye exams (And then order my lenses at warbyparker). Recently I decided to order contact lenses and did all the exams with them , I got Acuvue, use them occasionally and so far is working great - I even scuba with them. Would definitely recommended they helped my mom pick out free insurance covered frames instead of trying to sell frame and make profit from expensive non covered frames ... parking was a little difficult but for the pleasant visit I don't mind at all. I was refer to Eye&I by GVS. It was my first time time going to an eye doctor and everyone at the store made it comfortable from beginning to end. Joe signed me in, Dr. Han did the testing and everything went smoothly and easily. I wanted to add a last minute blue light addition to my glasses order and Joe was able to comply. The service and customer service here is extremely inefficient and slow. The staff at the front desk pushes you to take a retinal exam up front or refuses to see you as a patient. The entire staff is very unpleasant, disorganized and not properly trained. They are very shady when it comes to pricing- the optician (lady who speaks poor english) tries to rip you off. She charges you absurd prices in the beginning and then when you tell her you'll take your business elsewhere she makes up a promotion on the spot and tells you she'll give you a special discount. There were 3 employees I interacted with-all of them seemed confused and quoted me different prices. Terrible and incompetent staff. read more

Updating my review as this office is now trying to force me to do an unnecessary eye procedure (a retinal exam) which they then will charge me more for ( copay and charge my insurance) when all I was coming was for my free ( union voucher) yearly eyeglass upgrade and exam. I am 56 and on line it states this retinal exam should only be done every three years or so. So "eye to I" trying to "strong arm" me to take this exam when I stated I didn't need or want it is unethical and quite frankly illegal and a money grab by the business. They have now lost a customer of 20 years as I went here last year ( Saw Dr. Han who was excellent) and even before when they changed owners and usually recieved excellent service and was never bullied into taking any extra unnecessary retinal exams until todays nightmare. I left feeling upset that they would not just give me my regular eye exam I've always had which my union voucher pays for in full but instead are trying to make me pay for an unnecessary procedure I am not asking for or required to have. I left disgusted however luckily just one block away Is another eye store on 41st avenue which said they will take my voucher, give me a regular eye exam and that MOST IMPORTANTLY THEY DON'T FORCE ANY CUSTOMER TO TAKE A RETINAL EXAM IF THEY DONT WANT OR NEED IT. I wrote this poor review so others wont have to feel intimidated bullied and forced by eye & I and can know they have other more fair and ethical options and establishments nearby. I am so glad I decided to try a new eye doctor. I have been having some issues with tired eyes and blurry vision the past year or so. None of the eye doctors I have gone to previously could figure out why. From walking into the newly renovated, modern and clean space I knew I was in the right place. Dr. Han helped me understand what was going on with my eyes. Out of 3 doctors she was the first one to immediately tell me that I had severe dry eye and issues with my eyes not receiving enough oxygen. Mind you that was probably my fault for wearing my contacts too long. Dr. Han put me on a regiment of prescription drops and regular lubrication drops for about 3 weeks. Literally in the time my eyes have felt better and refreshed. Not only was she able to treat my eye issues but I was also given advice on how to maintain my eye health. I am so appreciative of all the help that Dr. Han and all the folks at eye&I gave me! PS: I believe most of the work is done on premises. I received my new glasses fairly quickly (hours instead of days/weeks). AMAZING customer service. read more

I had my appointment yesterday and I was the only one there. Dr. Han was lovely and easy to speak to. She explained what she was doing, at each step during the exam. She was really patient even though I was indecisive at certain points. Dr. Han also took the time to explain the process of getting contacts and its associated costs in depth. Her husband was also a star and he helped me select a frame covered by my insurance. The office gives off a high end boutique vibe and the front desk staff are quick as well. I have never written a bad review before so it says a lot that I feel the need to write this review. I first visited eye & I a year ago for a Stye and had a decent visit. So earlier today I called to make another visit and a young lady on the other end of the phone told me that with my insurance (I am a teacher so I have Emblemhealth + UFT Welfare fund for Vision) I would have to pay a $30 copayment and that I am allowed $175 if I need glasses/ contacts however, if I do not need them as I do not wear them right now that I would have to pay $40 for a refraction (to see if I need glasses) that it is not included in a regular appt and if I do not need glasses I have to pay the $40 on top of the $30 copayment. However, if I need glasses its part of the $175. I could hear someone speaking to the young lady on the phone, and although she was sweet, she seemed confused and I kept saying that it didn't make sense that I would be charged extra for NOT needing glasses by my insurance. She said "I know, I am so sorry, let's hope you need glasses!" - Which struck me as strange and I reiterated that no I don't wish that at all. After hanging up I called the UFT welfare fund who explained to me that there is NO copayment at all. That they do not need to use the Emblemhealth insurance and there is no copayment for UFT Welfare fund. Also, they told me that as stated on their website refractions (to see if I even need glasses) are INCLUDED in the visit- that this ($40) is a made up amount they have never heard of. I called back Eye & I to cancel my appt and when an older women answered the phone I told her I would like to do just that and I very calmly said that I wanted to share that they had misinformation regarding my insurance- she started interrupting and screaming at me that she knows what was told to me. When I said "excuse me, I was speaking, and you do not know what was told to me by my insurance company, I am trying to share with you so you can tell people the correct information going forward." she continued to scream despite me telling her that she was not supposed to charge a copayment as my insurance said that is them trying to charge 2 insurance companies essentially. The women continued to scream and would not let me speak therefore, I just hung up. I could not believe how rude she was. I immediately called another eye place on Bell blvd, I gave them my insurance information, and when I asked them about pricing, they told me that I would not be charged anything as my insurance has no co payment and a refraction to see if a I need glasses is included in my insurance and if I do need glasses I have $175 to spend. (The exact same information my insurance shared with me) I went to them and had an amazing experience. I now wonder how many other people they have ripped off with inaccurate information. read more

Best best BEST glasses store I've ever been to. The staff was wonderful and I felt so welcomed here!! I got an eye exam and the doctor was very helpful and friendly. She was extremely patient and explained everything to me just so I had an understanding what was needed for my eyes. The store is also beautiful! It's like an art gallery, but the art is replaced by glasses. They also have a vast variety of glasses so you will definitely find a frame you'll love! If you don't wear glasses, they also provide contact lenses! They sell other random goodies besides glasses as well like jewelry and little cute glass terrariums. I don't know...I just really loved my experience here. I am definitely coming back and would recommend everybody to check out this store if you're in need of an eye exam, a pair of glasses/contacts or a little comfort :) read more

I needed to have an eye exam and a check up since I have not get one for a while. The optician Dr. Han is terrific, she is very good in the procedure as well as explaining what I need to know. They have very high tech machine and the process was much smoother than what I went through several years ago. After going over my result, it's evident that my vision will benefit from having a pair of glasses for far distance visual as well as driving especially at night. The staffs help me try out way too many options of frames until I found the right one. I hate to be indecisive but this is important for me as well as everyone around me. I was originally recommended from Empire BCBS representative bc my parents were not happy at French optical on northern in bayside so i decided to give it a try since my glasses needed an upgrade. Went in, the staff in front were super friendly. Actually, they were super friendly via text way bf I physically went in for an appmt. The ambiance is just so green n clean which is my style, friendly staff, technicians n the doctor? She has such a calming, yet sweet and caring voice which made me feel very comfortable even when she told me i may have sth serious on my left eye. Going back to dilate my eyes for further examine my eyes but the glasses n tests were awesome! Brought my hubby n my parents right after that and they have been extremely satisfied as well. You sold me a defective pair of crooked glasses. I waited 3 weeks, after you said it would take 2 weeks for them to be ready. You claimed it was because of "my insurance", which is Medicaid. I am not a second class person bc I didn't private pay or have private insurance. Then Joe from your store called me back and said the delay was bc your lab was backed up, so your staff people are liars. You texted me that they were ready at 4:38 pm last Saturday, when your store closes at 5pm. When I went to pick them up, the frames were crooked. How do you not check the product when it comes into the store before you provide it to the customer? The staff tried to adjust it multiple times but they are still crooked. I was infuriated and wanted you all to send them back and have them corrected, but y'all called me back and said I had to be in the store to check the fit of the frames. They are still crooked and I don't have all day to sit there for y'all to adjust something that should have been right from the beginning. I have worn glasses since I was a child. I have never received crooked eyeglasses or such terrible service. You act like some high end place , I guess that's just for private pay customers. I will be reporting you to my insurance company. I will never do business with you again, selling crooked eyeglasses is not acceptable. They are still crooked. read more

The staff was very warm and helpful from the time I walked in the door, through the process of picking my frames (which is usually painful and disappointing for me because I have a small face and small nose bridge so few glasses fit me), and even in the follow up! The Yelp reviews certainly did not disappoint. This place is a gem! Dr. Han was super friendly and thorough with my eye exam. She welcomed questions and took her time explaining each step of the way. All staff members were inviting and helpful. When it came time to select my glasses frames, her husband was extremely patient and thorough in explaining lens options. I didn't feel like they were trying to rip me off. All parties gave me a variety of selection to choose from and discussed options for me due to my high prescription. I highly recommend this place for overall satisfaction and just the care and attentiveness provided. COVID-19 precautions were followed; my temperature was taken; after I tried on a frame, it would be disinfected. I found my new eye place for both glasses and contacts. My only suggestion would be to provide more frame selection for men. A lot of the frames were gorgeous for female clientele. read more
