I would highly recommend taking your pets to eye care for animals in Tustin! I initially took my dog, Walter in for a corneal ulcer which Dr Brinkis helped treat and Walter successfully recovered. Sadly Walter developed glaucoma in that same eye about a year later but because of the regular check ups we've been able to treat the glaucoma pretty successfully for 6 months with eye drops. Everyone is so kind and wonderful to my Walter. We appreciate Dr. Brinkis and everyone that works in the office! They are very quick and responsive. When it comes to needing refills they always call it in the same day. read more

The office staff, vet technician, and veterinarian are all fantastic. Our Crimson, our 14-year-old Shih Tzu, was expecting eye swelling and redness. We took her here, and she was diagnosed with glaucoma. The vet explained things and gave us options. We scheduled surgery, but in the interim, we tried eye drop therapy. When the surgery date neared and we went in for the pre-op exam, the eye swelling had gone down, and the eye pressure had dropped. The vet told us we could continue the eye drop therapy and come in for regular eye pressure exams if we wanted. We were so relieved and happy that the vet was so kind and understanding. It's been four months now, and the eye drop therapy is still working, and Crimson still has both eyes. We make our regular eye check appointments and will continue to come here. I highly recommend this facility. You will be happy, and your fur family member will benefit from the excellent care. read more

If we had a re-do, we wouldn't have taken our dog here--or more specifically, never to Dr. Dubin. The staff was great and so was the office manager, but we felt the need to highlight our experience to current & potential patients. In short: On a follow-up call with Dr. Dubin, she was (a) extremely unprofessional, (b) unbelievably rude, and (c) uttered words to me that our family will never forget...she said re: an unrelated dermatology issue above the eye: "If you would've listened to my advice months ago, your dog wouldn't be experiencing this issue." The issue she was referencing: a growth ABOVE her eye which ended up being aggressive CANCER (a dermatology/oncology issue). Why won't I forget it? Because we had to put our sweet dog down this Wednesday (a mere handful of weeks after Dr. Dubin made this cold-hearted comment) and she made our family feel guilt during this time for not addressing an UNRELATED eye issue--as if we were the cause of this cancer. Our dog also had a tumor growing on her lung. I genuinely hope Dr. Dubin reads this review because she knows exactly what she said and knows if we addressed the issue ON our dog's eye months back, it would have made no difference on stopping the cancer that resulted in our sweet dog's death. We spoke about this issue (unprofessionalism) when it occurred with the office manager, Beatrice, weeks back (who was very kind and refunded our money--another issue I won't get into here) but we felt inclined to write this review today as Dr. Dubin did much damage to our family during this difficult time. Current and prospective patients should also know 3 things: (1) All calls are recorded, so don't ever let Dr. Dubin speak to you in any sort of manner except professional and compassionate and (2) Don't bother reaching out to their parent company with any issue as they never responded to our complaint, and (3) Get a second opinion from another eye vet when it comes to meds or procedures recommended--especially anything recommended by Dr. Dubin. read more

What started as a visit for cataracts turned into something much bigger when she recognized another issue causing my dog Roxy's vision loss and referred us for an MRI, where we discovered a brain tumor. My baby girl Mandy is 16 and developed a huge bump under her left eye. We held off for a year while monitoring it and finally I said it is not going away, we need to do something. My vet recommended me to an Ophthalmologist and I picked Eye Care for Animals since it was near my home. They consulted Mandy and had to do a biopsy, after we got the results we found out she had a rare cancer tumor (luckily benign) surgery was recommended. I was nervous about her age and undergoing anesthesia but the doctors reassured me that dogs older than her go under as well and have no issues. I put all my faith into doctor Kaminsky and her team - the best part was I expressed I was financially strapped and they gave me alternative payment options as well as offered for a resident to do the procedure while the doctor is in the room at all times making the surgery more cost effective for me. I went with that option and after a week or two of healing Mandy looks back to normal and you can't even tell she had a bump! (Except for her half shaved face due to the surgery) I am extremely happy with the results and go back in January for her next follow up! read more

The vets were great with my dog's eyes and he's doing much better! I can honestly say you're in good hands -- if you can get in. The wait is horrendous! Aren't we all busy? This is why we make appts. The first time in we waited over an hour to be seen. The follow up appt two months later showed signs of a repeat experience where it had me sitting in the waiting room for 30 min until I asked for an update. Unable to tell me when we were going to be seen, I made the decision to leave and reschedule. My choice, I'm not mad about it, hopefully I wasn't rude to their front staff, but it's very annoying to make an appt if they don't treat it like one. Their service is pricey, but they know what they're doing and they're highly specialized to care for your pet's eyes. They were very careful during the pandemic in handling animals and having patients brought in and out of the clinic. There were lots of follow-ups; they seemed to really care about our blue merle aussie girl and making sure her eye was healing properly. The doctor and ladies who took our calls answered all questions and were very thorough in explaining each visit. Although our beautiful furbaby passed away suddenly about a month after her eye surgery (due to an unrelated genetic illness), we were thankful for how she healed quickly and had sight again, if only for just about a month, unbeknownst to all of us. She got to enjoy life again and we have them to thank for some sweet memories before she passed. After they found out our baby passed, they even sent us a condolence card with everyone's signatures and a heart-shaped wildflower seed pod. It brought tears to our eyes. It was a small gesture, but it shows how they care and remember their patients. My dog had a cataract since the day we adopted him from the shelter at age 5. 6 years later he suddenly (to us) went blind on Christmas Eve. We were recommended by three different vets to go here, but I didn't see stellar reviews so I checked around before finally going for a consultation. I do recommend going here. They were nice, fast, use texting and were helpful over the phone when I had trouble getting my dog's prescription filled at cvs. They provide a high and low estimate, we ended up being billed around the middle, which was nice. Estimates include the first few checkups so once you pay for surgery your only job is to give eye drops and bring them in for appointments. Every appointment had been on time and every tech was gentle and kind to my boy (and he's a growler). Best, of course, is that my dog has better vision now than he's had for most his life. He can chase his toys, watch birds and squirrels, is less scared of his surroundings and can walk around puddles. I love seeing him observe the world around him. It's been 6 months and it's still fun to see him play and explore without being afraid of hitting anything. Attaching photos of my dog before and after his surgery. Tips: we used pool noodles to help guide him around the house before his surgery by sticking them under things or running along the edge of the bed so he wouldn't fall off. Cut the overlapping ends of the e-collar to prevent as much water from collecting in between the flaps. Get dry raw food like Stella and chewy as a high reward treat after eye drops. I still pretend to give my other cat and dog eye drops so they can also get treats. Warm the eye drop meds in your pocket or shirt 10 mins before giving it to them, then drop the medicine in the outer pocket of the eye while pulling back the upper eye lid. My dog didn't like cold liquid on his eye but seemed to hardly feel body temp drops falling along the edge of his eye lid. Made it sooo much easier. Have a schedule ready for the eye drops that first week after surgery. If you don't work from home, see if someone else can help. They're basically every few hours because they're all at different rates. read more

My mother brought our dog here to get his eyes examined. During examination, he had a seizure, and advised my mom to take him to the specialty clinic next door. My mother went immediately, and didn't get a chance to pay for the exam. She came back today to pay, but once they found out our dog didn't make it, the staff told her she didn't have to pay for anything. Will not go back or recommend this place. Total cash grab on exam and meds. The vet I saw for my animals eye issue was not worth the $250 paid. At all! They gave my dog cheese wiz and pretzels to lure her back and calm her and my dog had an upset stomach later from that and the eye exam they did I never saw because they took my dog in back and the vet came in and talked to me for a few minutes and didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. For $250, they need to be more thorough and share the results of the testing and images if any. The staff was friendly. I would not go back to them again for any eye issue with my dog. RE: REFERRING TO THE MAIN DV (he is the only male DV at this hospital, so process of elimination you know I'm talking about him) this place is terrible. I never have left a yelp review in my life, but I had to help save other animals and their owners from this horrible place. My dog went in for eye surgery because of his cataracts. 2 weeks post op surgery, he could not open his left eye and was crying in pain. I took my dog to the ER because my primary was closed on the weekend and it was late at night. They told us this is probably a complication of his surgery. Next day I bring them back here to Eye Care For Animals and they said he has an injured retinal attachment. THESE DOCTORS JUST WANT YOUR MONEY, ESPECIALLY the main VD Opthamologist. He lacks any kind demeanor, has terrible bed side manners, and just wants to leave the room as quick as possible. He has the audacity to blame me my family and my dog for my dogs retinal deattachment when it was probably a poorly done surgery since I was monitoring my dog 24/7 and he never took his cone off. My dog is now suffering in pain and will probably lose his eye. Over $10,000 for his surgery and now will spend more money to remove his eye. They do not care about their patients, and I would know since I am a nurse. This is just extra money for them. My dog and my whole family will now SUFFER from this doctor. He does not care and just dismisses us with any questions and leave it to the tech to get the backlash, which they do not deserve. No animal nor their family should go through this suffering. They have no remorse. The main DV Opthamologist kept calling my dog a girl since day 1 and I have corrected him after every time after each visit (been over 15) that he is a boy. He does not care. This is a money pit. I would NEVER recommend this eye care hospital to anyone. Nobody deserves to go through this suffering. They do not take any accountability and will blame you or your animal for complications. At least give us the honesty. Now my dog will have to go through another surgery and have the stress. Overall, my dog was in better shape physically, mentally and emotionally before surgery than after. read more

She gave my dog lots of treats to try to make it a positive experience and was very kind to my dog. Please read the other 1 star reviews, I wish I had. This place is horrible. I took my dog there for two visits, a $2000 bill and probably the worst veterinarian I've ever met. Dr. Dubin is condescending, lacks bedside manner, has zero compassion and will not let you speak. She interrupted me repeatedly to the point where I stopped talking and just nodded my head. I could not get out of there fast enough. Not the mention the lobby is beyond dirty. Do yourself a favor and go to the other 5 star vet ophthalmologist a few miles away. They are amazing. He completely disagreed with Dr. Dubin's testing, medication and protocol. He also had excellent bedside manner and the staff played with and loved on my pup.
