Dr. George Frangieh is a slippery Sam! He told me i had cataracts. I had been a patient of Dr Patten for many years but sadly he retired. I got a second opinion and from another eye doctor and they said no, I did not have cataracts. Upon my next visit to my primary care doctor, I told him the story and he smiled and said that is how he makes his expensive car payments... Unbeknownst to me prior to my appointment with Eye Care Specialists of Norwood, both a routine eye exam and glaucoma screening are covered by my insurance with a $0 copayment but I was charged $40 and $55, respectively by ECS. My insurance company told me ECS coded the appointment as a 'specialist' visit and not as the services I received. I have no pre-existing conditions that require specialist visits. I attempted to obtain details and to argue for a refund but I never received a call back from their billing department after leaving three VM's on different days. These are dishonest practices and not "coding errors" practiced by doctors to increase their revenue. Buyer beware! Check your coverages before your appointment, do NOT pay at the appointment, and get an itemized bill before you leave the doctor's office. read more

This eye care facility is is amazing in every way. I had an emergency case of retinal issues and uveitis all in the same month and was seen within the week without previous appointment. I was also promptly referred to a retina specialist who looked into the issue of floaters/flashes and possible retina detachment. The technicians in both of the Eye Care Specialist locations in Norwood and West Roxbury were extremely capable in their administering of drops, use of all the imaging machines, and their thoroughness in taking my pertinent eye health information to give to the doctors. The doctors I have seen, Dr. Mills and Dr. Agahababayan were both very competent and identified my problems immediately, prescribing effective medications and treatment plans. They were also very friendly and informative about the causes for my issues and suggested courses of action to deal with root causes. Overall these offices in Norwood and West Roxbury were outstanding in every way and I am lucky to have found them. Thank you all. read more

It has been more than ten years since I was a patient, but I still remember, and will never forget how terrible this place is.

I bought a $2900 Groupon for complete Lasik Vision Correction and after the doctor had tested me he said he would not do the surgery because my vision was too farsighted. He said that farsighted goes away with age (although my prescription has been the same for 12 years) and that he would see me again in 6 months to reevaluate my situation. He said that at that time I could NOT use the groupon. I'm suspect after talking to another eye doctor's office who said that 6 months would probably not suffice to correct my vision beyond any meaningful threshold... My eyes were also numbed and dilated so much that I couldn't read anything or drive home (even with my glasses on) for almost four hours. They didn't even warn me of this when they did it! Is it normal for an eye doctor to retake my prescription both before and after dilating my eyes??? His assistant said that my case looked good and that she didn't see any problems. When I saw him he said he could do it but the procedure would be difficult, and I would guess costly, which may be why he decided to expel my opportunity to use the groupon and have me return 6 months later after the groupon expired to have the procedure done.... Maybe I'm reading into this too much. But I have a new appointment with another doctor in Boston. A second opinion seems warranted. And the staff seemed stressed-out/over-worked and not very friendly. read more

I had Lasik done over a year and a half ago and I have to say it was the best thing I have ever done for myself. Dr. Frangieh and his staff took the time to make sure that I was a good candidate, they also made me aware of the risks and what to expect during the process. I was told by Dr. George Frangieh that I needed cataract surgery. While at the office they show you a movie about the procedure and how doing it with lasik surgery is the best way to go. It is an out of pocket expense that cost me $2600. Dr. Frangieh told me that after surgery I would no longer need glasses-just cheaters for small print. Day after surgery I could see everything. The second day I could barely see at all. I went to the office & he told me don't worry we'll fix it. He did not. He tried to tell me there was something wrong with my retina. I went to Mass Eye & Ear. They said possibly refractory error. During a three month period, I saw him numerous times. I had several falls during this period, but attributed them to clumsiness. My last three falls were outside, one resulting in broken ribs and another with a broken hand, broken teeth, and scrapes and co fusions on my face. My PCP got me into see another ophthalmologist. Upon his examination the Toric lens that I was told was being used was discovered not to be the case. He used a cheaper lens that would require glasses. He has refused to give me my money back. Stay away from his practice. It is operating to take advantage of seniors for as much money as they can. I wonder how many other patients he has done this to read more

Be aware not to get scammed at Eye Care Specialists I Went last week to Eye Care Specialists for the first time to have my computer glasses done as it was the closest optical shop to my home. My first impression was not very bad specially after I was offered few cheesy/cheap frames (Parade) by staff Svetlana. I was in a shock when she informed me that the price of any of those low end frames is $169. I had no choice but to pick one of them due to my difficult work schedule. Svetalana was acting like a used cars salesman and she pushed me to buy 2 features (anti-glaring and poly-carbonate lenses which cost me another $70. Week later I went to pick up my new glasses and they were done wrong and I had to go back to my optician to write me a new prescription to re-do them. I search on the web and found that Parade frame are being sold in 5 different companies for $38.00 (not $169 as in Eye Care Specialists). when I went there and request to meet the business owner a man came out of the office and he was very rude and hostile loud and and told me that is their prices and I can go somewhere else if I am not happy with their business. That guy his name is George Frangieh and sadly he is the owner of this business. Be aware not to get scammed at Eye Care Specialists as it happened to me. I also used the Groupon for the Lasik surgery. Because of my prescription, I was given the option of either having the regular Lasik surgery or PRK. I chose the Lasik surgery upon Dr. Frangieh's advice. Also, PRK usually takes longer to heal and you would have to have the surgery performed on two separate occasions. If you have a higher prescription, then PRK would be your only option. After I made the surgery appointment, I had to reschedule a couple of times due to Dr. Frangieh's frenetic schedule. I was finally able to have the Lasik surgery in the summer of this year. The office staff was accomodating and repeatedly apologized for having to reschedule. At first I couldn't see too well on my left eye. I think Dr. Frangieh undercorrected b/c of my slight astigmatism. He said that in time, the eyes would adjust and that I will be able to see clearly with both eyes, which did occur after some time (about a month later). Although I'm happy and satisfied with the surgery overall, I do feel some pain in the right eye on occasion because of the dry eye effect. Dr. Frangieh recommended I take Flaxseed oil and constantly use the eye drops. The pain usually subsides when I use the eye drops. I've heard that the dry eye condition is common with Lasik surgery. In summary, Dr. Frangieh was very professional and the surgery went well (little to no complications, except for the dry eyes which is a common side effect of the surgery). read more

If you are a medicare patient with an eye injury watch out for these people. Medicare doesn't pay for eye exams.They will bill out the injury exam separatly and force you to have an eye exam, because the eye itself may be injured. When they bill medicare it will be rejected and you will have to pay for the eye exam. This happened to me, eye injury exam was billed out at $ 275.00 and surprise eye exam at $45.00. Wasn't the $275 enough to cover the eye exam??? read more

The location was easy to find and the entire facility was extremely clean. Dr. Frangieh and the staff that accompanies him is thorough and makes sure that the procedure is perfect. It has been close to a calendar year and my vision is still great as expected and the amount of check ups he conducts is a great indicator he cares about each individual patient. I would recommend to anyone interested in the Lasik Surgery or just a great eye doctor. read more

Its been several weeks since I had my lasik surgery and i have no complaints so far! It's great to not be worried about glasses and contacts and all that stuff anymore, and I feel really good. I would recommend Eye Care Specialists to anyone looking for lasik surgery that is affordable and high quality. The staff at the office was very pleasant and Dr Frangieh was very thorough and they made sure I understood everything that was going on both before and after my surgery. I did have to go in several times before everything was taken care of, but I would rather take the time to make sure everything is right when it comes to my eyes, so this wasn't a huge deal for me. read more
