She's a VERY astute business woman, professional and thorough to the tee. In all of the years of eye exams, I've never ever had someone be so precise and thorough with my exam, explaining every single step through the process to a "t" I see her growing her business to a much bigger practice in the future with maybe 1 or 2 employees but she's the type of entrepreneur who prefers to do things herself so it's done right the 1st time. If you don't like her style then adapt to it as she's being completely 110% honest with her customers and note that her time is valuable. So if she calls you, answer - if not then it's on you to follow-up. Word of advice - don't blow off/miss your appointment as she does charge a fee if you do. I DEFINITELY do not plan on returning here. I previously went to this location and purchased glasses. I went to return today and had an incredibly disappointing experience that made me never want to return and tell Dr. Ghanayem that she needs an attitude adjustment. Sometimes, when a person goes someplace they go to browse and not purchase anything immediately. I went solely with the intention of purchasing glasses and not getting an eye exam. I went to a different eye doctor and received a prescription. The times posted on the door and website say that the location is open Monday - Friday from 9:00-7:00 PM and Saturday 8:00-5:00 PM or by appointment only. It turns out that is a complete lie. I called at 4:10 PM to ask what time they were open until and Dr. Ghanayem said they weren't. I inquired as to what she meant and told her I could be there in 45 minutes and listened to her complain about how I should try to get there faster. I'm sorry I work a full day at my job. I told her I wanted to look at glasses. I arrive within 30 minutes and almost immediately she starts giving an attitude complaining how she had to wait 45 minutes for me. I tell her that I would like glasses without a bottom rim and she shows me 5 different styles in between complaints of how I need to change my style and I'm picky. We then switch to 2 different styles which I told her I wouldn't like and didn't and I get even more of an attitude. She tells me that she can order the glasses I have and then complains the model number is worn out and she can't. By this point I am just fed up with her attitude. I tell her that I'll come back another day. I tell her a time in the evening I am available and her comment is "if I come in the evening, I better buy glasses." She then tells me what about Saturday and I tell her i'm not free and I get more attitude. I was now beyond fed up and told her I would call her back and make up an excuse about needing to come back with my Mom. 2 minutes after leaving, she tries to call me 3 times. The 3rd time she left a message which made me want to tell everyone how rude she is and made me beyond disgusted in her. Instead of apologizing for her attitude, she says how I didn't complete the order and wasted her evening orders. If I want to make an appointment in the afternoon, that she wants to make sure I actually order something. If I come in, I have to purchase glasses or she can't let me make an appointment. I've been going to Dr. Ghanayem for years. Even after I moved away, I still return to her because of how thorough she is with the eye exams. She answers all my questions regarding different kinds of contacts (daily vs biweekly vs monthly) and the different lenses options for glasses. I love the selection of frames she has in the office. I have kept the two pairs she helped me pick out for years. I replace the lenses with current prescriptions because they're good quality frames. She should not be allowed to practice as a "Doctor". *Yells at her customers over the phone. *Does NOT give clear instructions to her patients. *Does NOT keep organized records of her patients' insurance plans. *Phone is NOT a reliable form of contact - She does not answer multiple phone calls in one day. VOICEMAIL IS ALWAYS FULL. So, even if you wanted to cancel your appointment within 24 hour window to avoid a cancellation fee, she won't receive the message. *Tells her patients that the glasses they pick out look horrible on them, and tries to force them to choose designer frames (because clearly she wants them to spend hundreds of dollars at on designer frames at her store that they can't afford). Also, she burns incense & candles in her VERY small office at the front of the office. I wouldn't go back here if my eyeballs were falling out of my head. This woman is terrifying. I was treated like a child, scolded and talked down to. She was extremely impatient and getting frustrated because I wasn't answering her questions fast enough. Lots of sarcastic sighs and eye-rolling too. Had to start the eye exam over several times because she was getting upset with me... I couldn't even concentrate on the eye exam anymore and just wanted to get out of there. I had something on my right eye and she put drops in it to check it out. After that my right eye was super blurry and I could barely see out of it. I was having a hard time with the eye exam because of this. At one point during the eye exam she was flipping the lenses back and forth so fast I couldn't even focus to answer her. "Which is better, 1 or 2? 1 or 2? 1 or 2? ONE OR TWO?!?!?!?" I couldn't even answer because she was giving me a freaking nanosecond to answer. She finally said "UGH! Nevermind! I'll make the decision FOR YOU!!!". At another point during the eye exam she said "UGH! I CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE!!!". At that point I was done. I will find another eye doctor that acts like a human being. I think the problem is she tries to run everything with no help, and overbooks too many patients. That gets her frustrated and she takes it out on the patient. Now she won't stop calling me (almost every day) wanting me to come back. No freaking way!!!! I'm a laid back guy and never write negative reviews, but this one was astonishing. Went to get and emergency eye exam and it was nice of Angie to take me in on a Saturday afternoon. That was about all the good that came from this. The 4-5 star reviews don't accurately reflect the practice that is conducted there. There was clutter all over the building. Very disorganized and probably the most disorganized I've seen at a doctors office. Files and Paper all over the place. Visible Dust and empty glasses shelves. My gut told me this wasn't right and I should have just left. I wish would have taken pictures of the place cause it honestly didn't look suitable for patients to be taken in. She talked down on me and was very condescending the whole time. She also didn't wash her hands before flipping my eyelids to check for contacts allergy. I honestly shouldn't have let her touch my eye without washing her hands but I was too nice at the moment. I immediately canceled the follow up appointment she suggested and kid you not, she called me from a no caller ID (Twice) to tell me I'll still get billed for the appointment, which is fine, but calling with a no caller ID? Dr. Ghanayem is one of the best Optometrist's I've been to! She gave me such a thorough examination, I was completely impressed! I choose her because first I checked who was covered by my insurance. Then I came here with the narrowed down list and checked what others had to say. I had driven by the store a few times and the name had caught my eye. Now onto my appointment... She is extremely patient! It took longer with me because midway through my appointment I had a meltdown as I also suffer with a chronic illness and started having a flare up of pain. She patiently waited while I got myself relaxed again so we could continue the exam. By the time my appointment was done, she had determined that she could get me back into contacts while treating my dry eye. She also helped me pick out a great looking pair of glasses! A very complete and thorough eye exam, could be pricey if you don't have insurance. Dr. Ghanayem is very patient with our 3 children ranging from 3-7 and made sure we were comfortable and sure of the diagnoses. She is willing to work with the customer on a vary range of frame/lens prices. After a few years of not wearing contacts, she was able to find a brand that worked with my eyes. Ha ha, try making me go to the doctor now! "Sorry, they're all closed!" Guess again. I looked this place up on Yelp and called them. She asked, "how far are you?" I was about 10 minutes away. I saw Dr. Ghanayem and I immediately noticed she had a blunt, no-nonsense personality. Her short responses and general demeanor started to raise a red flag in my mind, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she was having a bad day. Nope. She wasn't very warm and welcoming at all, and the last thing I want is to be talked down to at a place that gives me anxiety. I knew I should've cancelled from the beginning when hearing her curt attitude on the phone. I felt like every question I asked her was a burden as she rolled her eyes, all while making me feel like I was never talking fast enough for her. I thought you were supposed to provide me with service and answer my questions politely even if I have a lot of them? She did try to find the best pair of contacts for me which I appreciate, but when I told her I only wanted a contact for my right eye she was so mad and confused. My left eye is 20/25 and has slight astigmatism, which has never need correction before. No other optometrist has ever told me that I need a contact for my left eye, including the glaucoma specialist I saw a couple months earlier. When I told her I wanted to get a second opinion, she threw back so much attitude. After finally clearing things up, I had to leave and then come back to pay her because her credit card machine was broken which she rudely informed me about. The exchange went like this: Me: Do I pay here or in the front? (showing credit card) Her: My credit card machine is broken. I told you that earlier. Me: Oh sorry, I didn't hear you say that...so are you only accepting cash? Her: Cash or check only. After giving her my money I told her she was being rude and unprofessional. Her response "Ummmm actually I wasn't and she stormed off to her patient." I have NEVER felt like I could not voice my opinion before at a health professional's office before. She made me feel so rushed and like I had to accept what she was saying without question and not make a peep. I also wanted contacts with a green tint to enhance the green in my eyes and she basically laughed me off and said "colored contacts are feminine and a lot of men don't get them." I didn't ask for your opinion on whether they were feminine or not....incredibly insensitive. If you read this Dr. Ghanayem, please be a little more patient, less blunt, and more of a listener to your patients. I should have read the reviews before even thinking of stepping foot into this place. I should have noticed to stop the moment I called to make an appointment having the Dr answering "Hello" instead of a professional way. When asking if my insurance covers I was told to call my insurance and check. I verified my own insurance because I was desperate to figure out where my headaches were coming from. The moment of walking into this place I was told, "I have 2 papers for you to fill out there", no greeting or introduction from the Dr. While I was filling out paperwork she got on the phone with her inventory people and was being so rude to them as if they were worth nothing. After filling out paperwork we proceeded to the exam room where my friend and I were asked if we put something on. My friend replied with yes lotion. The Dr said, "you can take that off I'm getting allergies and can't breathe". Long story short this Dr is an angry, rude, unprofessional person that took hours to try and figure out my prescription. During the whole exam of her asking me to read the letters, they were always blurry. She didn't care, I was told , "Read them it's impossible you can't read that". I was forced to choose an option 1 or 2 weather I was able to see the row of letters or not. Couldn't see with the final prescription she ended up with for me. She told me to come back to redo it. NO WAY! She even acused me of writing a bad review the next day. Which I never did but now I am. Save yourself from wasting your time and insurance benefits. If you have davis vision go see Dr Patel at visionworks Harlem and Irving. I called the next day after this nightmare. I got same day appointment, amazing customer service, easy examination (5 min not hours), cute frames to choose from for my perfect prescription I can actually see out of. read more

I wouldn't recommend anyone to this business for eyewear!! This was a horrible experience for me over a period of 3 months. The eye exam was rushed and after I explained that I could not see the chart, i was told to guess at "which is better", 1 or 2? 1 or 2? 1 or 2? 1 or 2!?!?"..." She flipped the lenses back and forth so quickly that it was hard to determine which was better. The Doctor was very impatient and rude. After 4 weeks of waiting, I went to pick up the glasses, and she refused to provide the prescription. She stated that she couldn't provide the prescription unless I took another exam. When she stepped away to take a call, she had the nerve to accuse me of trying to take a picture of the prescription, when it was easily obtainable by simply taking the lenses to another eye care company and have them check the prescription for both lenses under the microscope! After waiting 4 weeks to receive the glasses, the prescription was incorrect. I had to go to another eye care company to take an exam again and pay for another pair of lenses. This was a better alternative over waiting another 3-4 weeks to have the lenses that I purchased at her office corrected. The office is also very unorganized and the front desk, which is visible to everyone that walks in the door is a disaster. I assume that she doesn't have the patience to work with anyone else and simply runs the office on her own. The office hours posted are meaningless because she opens and closes her business like its a Mom and Pop shop....no customers equates to closing up early, coming in later or not coming in at all. I would never go back or refer anyone to this place. It was the worse experience I've had with a business in a very long time. I actually reported this experience to my insurance company as well. Last month I purchased my third pair of glasses from Dr. G. I keep coming back because she always has the cool frames I want. Also, and most importantly, the glasses I've purchased have held up over the years. If I could put 0 stars, I would. I have never seen such norrible customer service ANYWHERE in my life. This is literally the first time I have ever had to contact the Better Business Bureau. Despite Dr. Ghanayem's 4, 5-star Yelp reviews, here was my experience: -$130 surprise contact fit fee, wanted paid in cash, exact change (I had to go to Dunkin Dunots next door and buy coffee in order to get her exact change). No receipt was provided even though I asked. Claims to have told me about this fee, which is incorrect. -Follow up visit was to be included in the $130 fee, only to find out that when I had an allergic reaction to the contacts she tried to charge me an additional $100 for the visit as an "emergency". -Changed my mind about contacts due to the reaction, wanted to look at glasses, only to get a sarcastic sigh and eye-roll. -Tone and attitude is very condescending, made me feel like a liar and denied any wrong-doing, ever. -Decided to look into other eye doctors, only to learn her out of pocket charges are 2x, 3x if not 4x what other doctors charge with 10x more experience than her. -Options that I had for my exam were never explained fully to me, she just performed things that she 'recommends' even though I had the option to choose. It was never "here's why I recommend this, would you like to do it?" it was "we're going to do this". -Asked to be billed out of pocket, so I can use my benefits elsewhere, asked politely via phone and email, if she could lower the charges considering the experience. Never even acknowledged my last email. -Went in to get my final bill and pay any remaining balance, she did remove the fee for the eye exam and called it a "courtesy discout". I said thank you for that and brought up several points to her attention as far as the previous issues, only to have her literally yelling, bickering and fighting with me like a teenager (there is no better way to explain it). "The customer is not always right" was one of the biggest quotes that stood out. I'm not saying that the customer is always right, but her approach to resolve the problems was inexistent. Really rude, unpleasant. I think she has anger issues. The eye exam is conducted so quickly, choices barked at you, no time to think or reflect. Insists on doing things that are not part of a standard eye exam. Refuses to release your prescription. A nightmare. Here are the specific details: Her manner is brusque and condescending. The moment I walked through the door, without even introducing herself or asking my name, she told me to "sit down and fill out these papers." She then demanded my insurance cards even though I had told her over the phone that my insurance did not cover eye exams and that I would pay for the exam myself. She was visibly annoyed and insisted that she had told me to bring the cards anyway and didn't I remember that?? When I told her, no, she hadn't she insisted that she had. She even wanted me to go back home and get them! I felt that I was dealing with an argumentative adolescent---so I just shut down the conversation. I wish I had walked out. She then attempted to give a hard sell on contact lenses (red flag! contact lens wearers generate 4x the revenue of eyeglass wearers).* When I told her I'd think about it but I wasn't interested in doing that at this visit...she was annoyed. She even brought the topic up again a few minutes later, during the exam. She then told me to "follow her!" (of course, minus any pleasantries or a modicum of courtesy.) Everything about her delivery is curt and supercilious. When she asked me why I felt I needed new glasses, I told her the reading part of the lens seemed fine, yet I couldn't read things at a distance. She was haughty and amused and told me: "then you're having trouble with distance." I said that I hadn't thought about it that way. Faces and objects weren't blurred at a distance, but words were. I just wanted to be clear. But everything I said seemed to annoy her. She seemed to delight in "catching me" in unintentional inconsistencies in my responses to her exam questions. For example, when she put what she was sure would be my new prescription in front of my eyes and she asked me to read something that I had read with my old glasses, I was unable to do so. She then had me put my old glasses on. The lines were still blurry to me. (Perhaps my eyes were tired from the exam?) She sneered at me "yet before you said you were able to read it." (I had told her earlier it was difficult to read but I would guess.) I was so puzzled. Everything about me seemed to anger this woman, and I couldn't understand what I was doing that was "wrong." She also speaks and gestures at lightning-fast speed during the eye exam. If there was any attempt on my part to slow things down so that I could have a moment to reflect, she showed visible signs of annoyance and treated me as though I were stupid and/or senile. Half the time I couldn't even understand her instructions because she gave them so quickly (a sign of boredom with her job?) that I was unclear as to what was expected of me. Anyone who has ever had an eye exam knows that a big part of the exam consists of looking through various permutations and combinations of lenses to try to identify which of two very close choices is the better one. Often, the difference is barely perceptible. Let me tell you----it is even more difficult to assess when an angry, bored, annoyed person is barking non-stop: NUMBER ONE OR NUMBER TWO??? NUMBER THREE OR NUMBER FOUR??? Perhaps the most surreal and laughable part of the exam was during the test of peripheral vision. She used the crudest type of field test possible. That's alright; it's acceptable in the field. However, in nothing I've read does it say it should be conducted at the speed of light!!! Again, she was barking in my ear while she rapidly rotated her fingers around, up, down, both sides of the head, both hands (the test is supposed to be conducted one eye at a time). She looked like a frantic juggler in the throes of mania: ONE FINGER OR TWO, ONE FINGER OR TWO, ONE FINGER OR TWO???? I didn't know if I was being tested for speed, accuracy, or ability to deal with a challenging situation. When it was time to leave, I asked her for a copy of my prescription. She refused to release it unless I came back to get my pupils dilated. Frankly, there is no way I would trust her with chemicals near my eyes. Besides the entire experience was so unpleasant that I will never set foot in her office again. The next day, I called her and told her I'd like my prescription along with her bill. She began to get loud and bullying. I told her that unless I had my prescription, I wouldn't pay the bill, I said goodbye, and I hung up. SHE CALLED MY HOME 3 TIMES in rapid succession. I refused to answer her calls, not wishing to put myself into the path of further abuse. This is extremely unprofessional behavior. Stay far away. I came across Dr. Angie through social media although I live in California and her eye center is in Chicago. I needed some designer glasses so I decided to get in touch with Dr. Angie based on the excellent reviews I have read and what others have said about her. From my initial contact with Dr. Angie until receiving my glasses in the mail the service was extraordinary. Dr. Angie went out of her way on several occasions to ensure I got exactly the glasses I wanted and lent her genuine opinions when asked for advice. I changed my mind multiple times on style and she patiently worked with me to ensure I was happy. I needed an eye exam urgently (was running 2 wks past my last pair of contacts!) and called her store on a holiday to check if she was open. The store was actually closed BUT she opened up her store for me! We set up a time most convenient for us and met. She was extremely thorough and knowledgeable. She recently opened and has an up to date, trendy collection of frames! She had me try all the best contacts currently available and had me pick from them. I've never had that done before... Dr. Ghanayem is a true professional that cares about her patients. I showed up unannounced the day before my appt and although she was ready to leave for the day, she stayed and help me pick out a pair of glasses. She was very accomodating. During the exam she was very helpful in explaining what the eye exam was showing. Highly recommended. read more
