UPDATE: The owner, Andrew contacted me directly to hear more about my experience. He was very compassionate and explained to me that it was a trainee who made the mistake listed below. I called to get a second opinion from the Dr. herself, Dr. angel. I saw her this past weekend and she was marvelous! I left happy and I am also happy to say I finally love my contact lenses! Thank you Andrew and Dr. Khem for caring about your patients and your business, it says a lot! The office staff has always been nice. I have been coming here for two years. Year 1 was for my eyeglass prescription renewal/exam and most recently for eye contact exam. And boy oh boy was it an experience! I hadn't tried contacts because I was terrified of putting anything in my eye. So after much thought I decided to go in and get it done. I expected a little more sympathy/understanding from the doc since it was my first time trying contacts on but I didn't really feel that. I had to go about 3-4 times to finally get the right fit...and even then I didn't! But that might just be my eyes. I forget the doctors name but she was a relatively young female. The first time I went for my fitting she was helping me put the contacts in bc I'm a rookie and didn't know how. She made sure to explain to wash my hands before I put them on and before I take them off. So to demonstrate, she washed her hands before putting them on. THEN, she DROPPED a contact lens. We couldn't find it bc #1 I wasn't wearing glasses so I couldn't see and #2 I don't know what her excuse was. Anyway, she finally found it! Where you ask? Her SHOE! The sole (side) of her SHOE! So she picked it up and put it on my eye!!! I couldn't believe it! I was shocked, so shocked i didn't say anything. Well I told her it didn't feel comfortable so she removed it. Then grabbed another pair and DIDN'T wash her hands! So I told her "aren't we supposed to wash our hands before putting them on?" She agreed then proceeded to wash her hands but it wasn't until after I said something. This was such a bad experience for a first time contact lens wearer! This is an update to my last review. After speaking with the owner Andrew and meeting with Dr. Khem I was able to resolve the issue with the prescription. Both were very understanding, receptive, and willing to work on resolving the issue. They explained the cause of the problem and how they were able to resolve it. I visited this office yesterday for a routine check up and was surprised to see how helpful and personalized the service was. The Dr that saw me, Dr. Khem was very genuine and helped suggest lenses and contacts for my primary eye concerns. When it came time to pick frames, the staff at the front was friendly and patient while I looked around to find something suitable. The manager, Caroline, went out of her way to help me find the perfect pair, even though it was a busy time of day. This review is for the old 7th and Fig location. Dr,. Kleinman was the first of my streak of fantastic optometrists. I was a patient for about 13 years, and this location were still there, I'd still be going. Unfortunately, the Montebello office is too inconvenient for me. I was always impressed with the eye exam. The doctor is thorough and relaxed, which makes for a pleasant experience. When my vision changed a bit, he had sample contact lenses for me to wear until the permanent lenses arrived. And the front office, just as easy to deal with. Overall, a very satisfactory experience. read more

I have worn glasses all my life as long as I can remember being in third grade and swinging up-side-down on the monkey bars and my glasses flew off my head and this unknown kid from an upper grade stepped on it right in front of me! Well, I basically came to the realization years after when I started working for an optometrist that I didn't have many options for contact lenses because my astigmatism was so bad. So, I went through the rest of high school and all of college wearing glasses and trying to embrace it as part of my "look." Then I started working in Downtown and was in need of getting a new exam done so I went over to Dr. Kleinman as my boss suggested him to me. Dr. Kleinman was awesome! He gave me my exam and suggested whether or not I wanted to give contact lenses a try. I said "YES! But can I?" He said that it will be a tedious process to try and find the right ones, but it is totally doable given the new technology and products that are out there. After about 3 months and trying around 5 different pairs (I lost count) ... I finally found the ones that I can see clearly in and don't have to squint to see a street sign!! Dr. Kleinman was patient throughout the entire process. He kept telling me that this is just the procedure and no need to feel hopeless. He also accepts insurance which saved me a pretty penny. Overall, I am so impressed with his professionalism and also being able to do all of this during my lunch hours. read more

I liked my optometrist though she never told me her name. The shop has several eye docs so you never know who you're going to see when you request an appointment. The reason why I stopped going here was because the staff sucked. You're supposed to get a free bottle (and mind you, this is a small trial size bottle) of contact solution with your contacts but they refused to give it to me because they claimed I had already gotten one. WTF? As if I didn't spend enough money here! And it's not like they buy these things. They get 'em for free from the manufacturers. Sheesh. Great store lots of frames to choose from. The staff is really nice and helpful. Good location in the mall and easy to find. I have a complicated prescription and they got my glasses made faster than any other optometrist I've been to.
