Took my son for his first eye exam, and we had a very pleasant experience at Eye Physicians of Central Florida located in Maitland. We were referred to this office by our pediatrician, and I'll admit I was a little nervous since I didn't know what to expect. I wasn't sure how they conducted eye exams on kids under two, and I wasn't sure how my son would react. All the staff members we encountered were kind and clearly communicated the process & next steps. My son has a minor astigmatism in both eyes, so they ended up needing to dilate them first. You can tell their team is well versed in working with children and they had a friendly, calming presence. My son actually did so well and was relaxed the entire time. Didn't even shed a tear. He received the eyedrops with ease and then we had to wait about 20 minutes for his eyes to dilate before seeing the doctor. The test consists of a series of lights and he was actually pretty mesmerized. Ultimately, we left with good news that he won't be needing glasses right away, and we'll come back again in 6 months to see if there's been any improvement. The cost (even with insurance) was the major bummer. They can't tell you how much it's going to be upfront because it depends on what tests they end up needing to do. So $300 later, this was an expensive preventative measure. read more

I've been here 2 times and though the staff is very nice and knowledgeable, I wish my daughter's doctor would change our referral to a different location. To start, the wait times after you check in are awful. I should not have to wait more than 10 minutes after my scheduled time to be seen by a person. We've had to wait at least 20 minutes each time. Secondly, the waiting area is crowded and kind of dirty and run down. The seats have rips and cracks that will tear up the back of your legs if you dare to wear shorts to your appointment. The seats are arranged in corners so you will be knee to knee with another person if there are a lot of people in the room. The carpet looked like it needed a vacuum. There were white pieces of paper all over the floor. My daughter had to enter a few different rooms for her evaluation and 2 of the 4 spaces looked like storage closets. One had tables and a painting shoved in a corner. Another had a desk and a printer just lying on the carpet. It was just all very icky, messy, and dirty. New waiting area furniture and perhaps curtains to hide the equipment strewn about the office would help. read more

The doctors here are great but my advice is to avoid making an appointment on Friday. They only work half a day so it's really busy. My appointment was at 1030; I got there at 1015 and waited approximately an hour to be seen. I guess that's why they call us "patients".. anyways once in the room the different techs I saw were very professional and nice. The doctor was cool and told me my eyes looked fine and told me he'd see me next year. I left the office at 1230. I thought it was a bit long for a vision/ eyes check up. It seemed very busy today and we had to wait about 45 minutes before we were called, but we don't mind waiting because there are plenty of chairs and spaces to wait and everyone is very friendly and nice. Dr. Andrew Schneier has treated my daughter since 2020 and has done surgery on her to remove a chalazion and everything went well and her eye looks amazing. We are happy that he still willing to see my adult daughter even though he is a pediatric doctor. read more

Deceptive billing practices. If you are seen for a medical issue and they do an eye exam for glasses, they refuse to bill vision insurance. They say they accept it, and they will bill it to sell you glasses, but they refuse to bill vision insurance for physician services. Save yourself some time and go anywhere else. Unless you absolutely have to, I would get services anywhere else. TLDR Greedy doctors, lazy billing staff, long wait times. read more

First, this review is specifically about this place's glasses lab and optical shop. The doctors are great. Anyway, my wife had the misfortune of getting glasses from this place. They were defective. After trying to notify them of this for weeks through their perpetually unanswered voicemail box, she finally goes to them in-person. When she returned the glasses, the refund was short $224 of the price paid. When asked why, they said they'd check with the lab. Then, mere minutes after being given reassurances we'd probably get the rest of the money back, we were denied the rest of the refund. They chalked this up to a "restocking fee" for the lab. Here's the real kicker: When we inquired how defective glasses could be restocked, they said they wouldn't actually use them again because the lens prescription was too customized. Long story short, We pay a "restocking fee" for defective glasses that won't be because the lenses in said glasses are highly customized. WE pay $224 for THEIR screw-up. First time experience. My 4 year old seen for the first time and the experience was horrific. The original person who brought us back to the room DID NOT SAY A WORD. What a start! The provider Dr Vicki was rude & should NOT be working with children. She's impatient and condescending. It was my child's first time getting her eyes dilated and she was telling her to look at two different things and says "Is she confused, does she not know what opposite is".I beg your pardon? WOW I am so impressed with this team. I visited to follow-up after being diagnosed with Uveitis at the hospital. I had a very swollen and angry eyeball. The team was thorough, and Dr. Humphrey was one of the most caring and thorough doctors I've seen in a long time. I wasn't waiting long at any point, I was in and out of the office within an hour - even with dilation. I really appreciate everyone that was working that day in the office. 5 Stars for a compassionate team of people who love kids and treat you like family. My nephew was born with degenerative cataracts and has been seeing Dr. Hered at Eye Physicians of Central Florida for Teo years now. I have joined my sister in taking him for appointments quite often and every time I leave impressed by their work with the little ones. The exam rooms are made for adults and babies, with a drawer full of distracting flashy toys for when the doctor needs a specific angle. Besides that, Dr. Hered's team really makes you feel comfortable and makes the little ones smile and behave. The lobby of the space has plenty of chairs and a kid play area which helps make any parent's job a bit easier while waiting for their eyes to dilate. They also sell glasses frames right there too. In one word -- INEFFICIENT. Good luck trying to get through to someone on the phone, even if you leave a message, even if you know a direct extension. It's not happening. If you do get through by chance to make an appointment and upon checkin, make sure they tell you what to expect for billing. Also block out 4 hours if you're a new patient. We were here for 3 1/2 hours our first visit, for a basic eye exam and dilation. NO MEDICAL ISSUES. They're extremely strict about masks, had an employee walking around making sure masks were "worn properly" over nose while sitting in waiting room. So my child who struggles with anxiety, lung issues (diagnosed by a hospital and several doctors) and was having a panic attack because of her breathing was balling in the waiting room and even the assistant in the treatment room ridiculed her and said if we need to go outside "for a break" we could but that they wouldn't not treat my other child (that was the patient) without the mask being worn properly. Causing more stress and anxiousness for the one who was already struggling. Inter office communication is terrible!!! Upon checkout, we got a massive bill which was a complete surprise. Thankfully they reduced the exam fee to a lesser amount but still paid several hundred dollars. We couldn't get an appointment for contact fitting until contacts came in. I missed the appt call from the office. So I tried calling back nearly a dozen times, left messages, had the direct extension of the contact person for this appt and didn't get anywhere. SO I luckily got another call to schedule this probably 4+ mo after the fact. Was told appt at 3 but I could arrive by 3:30 (because of school carline) and wouldn't be a problem. Again sitting in waiting room for over 40 minutes. Will have to cancel this appt potentially because I have somewhere else to be at! Had I not paid hundreds for our first visit and a contact fitting that is free (that is necessary in order to get an Rx!) I would never step foot in here again!!! I do not recommend this place unless you're looking for frustration, stress and an air conditioned place to waste time and spend money. read more

When I first made my appointment it took months just to see a doctor then I couldn't even show and had to reschedule due to a hurricane and because of that I had to wait even longer to be seen. I was referred here by my ophthalmologist so I needed to go here specifically and not somewhere else so waiting is all I could do. To even schedule an appointment here I waited over an hour on the phone just to have it picked up and hung up and I had to wait another hour. I am fully aware this is a very busy office and I acknowledge that so I wasn't upset about any of that until I was seen today. The staff were efficient and kind. But the doctor? I have never been one to complain or write reviews but after meeting with the doctor I left feeling disgruntled. He was simply arrogant and spoke to me and my mother like we were stupid. Everyone showed great patient care except for the doctor! Patients go to the doctors to feel better. I left feeling worse. If he would have simply spoken with some compassion I could have felt better about my results. If he would have just taken a minute to just listen and hear me out and act like he cared but no he did what he had to do to have me out of the office the quickest. If you see so many patients a day that you cannot take time and talk to your patient then you're doing something wrong. When I did try to talk to him you could just tell he did not care especially in his body language. When my mother just asked a simple question to clarify something he replied with something along of the lines of "well it's my job that to know these things". I have been a patient at this office many years. I find Dr Auerbach personable and a very good, knowledgeable, no-nonsense doctor. The office itself is clean and nice. The issue I consistently face is long long hold times and difficulty getting an appointment that is not far out. Also, if you need a contact fitting it should be part of your annual exam, but not all of the techs will treat that as such. So, if you want contacts, and you go in for an exam, you may not leave with a prescription without a separate appointment. I recently had some serious issues dealing with billing, contacts, and a few other things. The office manager called me personally and helped me sort through everything. She was knowledgeable, caring, and made me feel like I mattered and wasn't just a number. They are lucky to have her there! read more

OY vey. Generally speaking, I feel like I've gone to a factory when I take my kids here; the service is impersonal at best. (Our family has dubbed this place The Eye Factory.) Aside from that, the communication is awful. I have tried using the patient portal to ask a simple question about an Rx, but I still have yet to receive a reply, despite having written 4 business days ago. My regular doctor replies the same day or the next day, and I'm failing to understand how an office can't reply in a more timely manner. With no reply via the patient portal that is allegedly set up to receive messages, I resorted to calling. I was on hold for FORTY-FIVE MINUTES. An automated voice came on and said I had the option to instead request a callback and keep my place in line. I did so, and lo and behold, I never received a call back, so I did what it instructed and called back more than 30 minutes later. Guess who's on hold again with no sign and now has to start over from the beginning? This is absolutely ridiculous. If I were shopping at a store that had this level of customer service, there's no way I'd go back to it. Unfortunately, there aren't many options in the area for what our daughter needs help with, so it looks like we're stuck here. Between the poor customer service and the general impersonal, factory-like nature of this place, I'd love another option. read more

my 7 month old son who has been seen multiple times as he was a premie and had immature retinas had an eye exam scheduled. we got there long line but we were called in to a room shortly after they dilated one of his eyes and sent us back to the waiting room. in the waiting room someone came out and did the drops in his other eye. I found it odd they were putting the drops in in the bright lobby but they told me we would be in a room in 15 minutes so I figured it was okay. 2 hours later we are finally called back after another patient asks one of the staff when he would specifically be seen because everyone had come and gone and people coming in hours after us were being seen while we still sat there. being a baby he was obviously getting fussy after sitting there so long and being in a bright room with his eyes dilated. no one checked on us. no one updated us. no one apologized to us. nobody cared. this place is extremely unprofessional and rude and if you have young babies do not take them there. the doctors are all great I'm sure but the rest of the staff are terrible. you'd think they'd apologize for forgetting my son because that is ultimately what happened but they did not. And the owner in my google review tried to act like nothing was wrong with any of that and appointments can take up to two hours which maybe they can but they weren't they only were for my son because they forgot him in the waiting room while his eyes were dilated for an hour and a half. 2 stars because the doctors were very good, but the front office is another matter. I was told that I need a Yag surgery procedure for debris on my artificial lens. the surgical coordinator was very friendly and helpful at first, but then my insurance gave her a hard time when she called to verify benefits. I spent hours on the phone with the insurance to sort this out since the coordinator would not accept the information from me. I called the office and gave them a reference number and asked them to call the insurance back, but this wasn't done. I then called the insurance again and got the rep to call the surgical coordinator directly. She said the coordinator was very rude to her, but she sent her all of the required documents. In spite of that and repeated phone calls on my part, I never heard back and was unable to schedule the procedure. I can't recommend a practice that treats patients like that. My retinal specialist's office set up an apptmt for me - they too complained how hard it ws for even them to get through. It took them a full day. When they told me the date and time, it conflicted with a previous engagement. I called to cancel and waited abouyt 30 minutes - with no answer. A week later I received a $50 bill for a 'No Show'. Again I tried contacting them, and also their separate billing company and wasted another 40 minutes, never getting an answer. Don't add aggravation to your lives. Problem is you never get call back so you go through the process until you can finally reach someone. When I was sick I didn't want to hang out forever on phone. I had already found a new doctor which I had been told wouldn't be possible because he was the only neurological opthamologist in the area. LIE. Found one around the corner. Been here twice both for my daughters check up. I am a first time mother who worried that my daughter is having a a squint eye. This office really have a very good check-in and check-out process. Love the staff too. The Floor is separated for adult and children patients. And they have a little playroom for smaller children that has toys, obviously my daughter loves that corner. We've been seeing Dr. Gold who patiently and compassionately explained that there is nothing wrong with my daughter eye. I wish I could rate my experience even lower. I saw 2 pediatric doctors at this center neither doctor could explain why my child was experiencing partial vision loss. Where is it acceptable to tell someone they can't help you, have no idea what's wrong but then you're expected to pay them for quickly glancing at the same results that should have been researched and analyzed ahead of my visit? Or at least have the decency of guiding one in the right direction to a solution, if you are so stumped by his condition. The receptionists and nurses have no business dealing with pediatrics and neither do the doctors (there are so few neuro-ophtalmologists in the area that we are at their mercy) I was told to wait 2 months to see the neuro- ophtalmologist (2 months to wait with a child that can't see and is experiencing debilitating headaches) then after insisting on getting in sooner I get in with a doctor that brushed us off. I had to request that he order an MRI then after the MRI I was simply advised to come back in 2 months ... For what are we all going to pray that my child's vision is restored ??? I was offered no guidance or alternative options .... They are horrible and I suggest you seek a specialist out of town if you care about your children. My feedback to the doctor if you care act like it I would like to see a plan of action and some concern as to how he's progressing I want a refund 2 doctors at this location no answers .... This is completely unacceptable... I know it doesn't work that way because some how we've accepted that doctors don't have to know what they are doing but you are specialists and this is your job. horrible!!!! I went in for my initial appointment it took an hour and 45 minutes before I ever saw the doctor for maximum of five minutes. when I returned five weeks later, for my appointment with the surgery coordinator I had some questions because the paperwork had my wrong eye listed.for surgery. The surgery coordinator informed me that they would be performing surgery on my left eye and it should have been the right eye, I scheduled an appointment to come back in and speak with the doctor three days later when he had an open appointment. When Dr. Thomas sat at his computer and saw that there was nothing to bill for he hurried me out of the office and back into the waiting room. My next appointment was then scheduled for 9.25, 2023, and at that time I would meet with the surgery coordinator again, and after she called me today she informed me that they were currently scheduling surgeries for Dr Thomas for the latter part of December 2023. Iit's been a very long process and I have wasted many months of my time. it's been a bad experience from the very beginning and just keeps getting worse so I canceled service with Eye Physicians Of Central Florida and Dr Victor Thomas. NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!! NEVER did get the co-pay refunded for the the visit Dr Thomas couldn't charge for because the co-pays are collected up front read more

I am extremely disappointed with the service. I have fibers dying in my optic nerve when I saw auerbach he looked at me and couldn't tell me what was wrong. So he sent me for an MRI that day for my brain. I waited til the next Wednesday and called to find out if there were any results. Their menu didn't have any number to push to find out information. I pushed 123 and got some rude individual who told me not to call that number. She did look up to see if there were any results and they haven't received. My experience was unsatisfactory it just seems like they want money and get people out the door. read more

My appointment was relatively easy. Even though I was late I was able to be seen within 15 minutes from entering the building. The man who checked me in was kind and professional. But, there was a woman there who was very loud and did not leave a good impression on me. They gave me two options to fill out my forms before I could be seen. One, was to fill it out on a tablet they provided and the second was on my phone. I opted for the phone option due to the convenience. I was sent a text with a link to fill out my paperwork. It was pretty painless but when I went to submit everything the form showed me an error message and told me to see a representative. When I did the employee had no idea what to do. I told the man I could just do it over again on the tablet, then he told me it's okay he didn't need it. So after all of that time I spent filling everything out he didn't necessarily need it in the end?? I suppose if that isn't true they could always send me the forms in the end but I thought that was a little odd. After that I was promptly called I and seen by the doctor. He was in and out due to his busy schedule but I had assumed that I would've had a more stable appointment than that. Running in and out seemed unprofessional to me and made me uncomfortable. I wish they would sit down and talk to the patients more one on one before just sending them on their way. read more
