Last November, during my annual eye exam, he caught a microscopic abnormality in my left optic nerve--before he had even dilated my eyes. After months of tests and ruling out other things, the doctors at the U of M determined that it's an optic nerve sheath meningioma (tumor). Thanks to Dr. Schwartz's expertise, it was caught before any vision loss (the doctors were shocked as it's rarely detected before the patient has symptoms). After radiation treatments and my follow-up MRI yesterday, I am so thankful that the tumor shrank a little and I only have very minor vision loss. This would not have been possible without Dr. Schwartz and I will never be able to thank him enough for blessing our family with not only top-notch, hometown care, but for saving my eyesight (and more). While I didn't plan to share this much on a public page, I couldn't explain how awesome Dr. Schwartz is without sharing some of my experience. I highly recommend him, as does our whole family. When I called Eye West they were extremely helpful, kind and understanding on the phone. My fear was I either wasn't going to make it with traffic or walk in right when they were closing which is exactly what happened. Despite walking in 3 minutes before closing time, the kind and helpful attitude remained. They worked with me to find some sample contacts that matched my prescription. True life savers that week!! I requested to talk to another doctor who was even worse. She made fun of me and interrupted me as well. They tried to push bifocals on me after saying many times I did not want them. She said "well if you want to be inconvenienced then." Instead of respecting my preference of not having reading glasses. I do not struggle with seeing while reading. There were not notes from my past visits explaining my situation. I have a lazy eye and stigmatizing, near and far sighted. I have spent years getting the right type of glasses and know the bifocals and provisions are not for me. They did not hear me at all, just interrupted and made fun of me. I am 44 and have worn glasses for 10 years. This is the worst experience I have ever had. Horrible experience. We will NEVER be back. They do not care about the patient. Old staff was completely different.

MN FRAUD! MN FRAUD! - Routine vs Medical coding--read this carefully and thoroughly about their…read morebilling and coding practice. I scheduled my annual routine eye check-up with a $10.00 co-pay. Note: I'm not having any issues but scheduled my annual & routine eye check up. At the appointment they start by doing some standard tests and then the DR does their normal and routine tests. If they don't find any eye issues, I only pay the $10.00 co-pay. However, (little did I know) if they find an eye condition they automatically change this to a medical appointment which now costs $65.23. Here is my complaint. The only thing different is them telling me about the condition of my eyes. So instead of saying your eyes are perfect and come back in a year they tell you about an eye condition, they'll keep an eye on it and come back in a year. Is this not the purpose of a check up is to find out the condition of your eyes. Let me repeat: Nothing (no tests, eye checks) was done different from it being a $10.00 visit to a $65.23 visit except they TOLD me about a situation with my eye. There was absolutely no additional work done during that appointment. When I have my dental check-ups they tell me the condition of my teeth. If they find work that needs to be done they don't go back and charge me for the check up. We move forward with my treatment plan. United Health Care said they pay according to the code the doctor's use. The Eye Care Clinic changing this to medical billing generates more money for them and more out of pocket for the customer.
