When I first moved to Pacific Beach 4 years ago I originally went to Dr. Luskin based on my brother's recommendation. When I found out it changed owners I had no doubt based on the reviews on Yelp that Lucinda would be a great doctor to go to. I just recently moved back to Indiana, but if you are new to PB or the beach community I would definitely recommend Eyeloha because of not only the convenience and location, but because she is one of the best eye doctors I have ever been to. The last check-up I had she explained more in depth the reasons for issues I was having with my eyes. She also takes time to get to know her patients on a personal level which helps her provide the best customer service. Set an appointment and went in the week of, which was nice. They also can adjust their hours to tend to your needs, which is nice when you work typical 9-5 and can't get time off. Dr. Li was really nice and friendly, and the exam was thorough. I had to pay $75 after the eye exam because it wasn't covered by my insurance and they didn't really explain to me what that was about. I kinda wish they walked me through my insurance and their prices, because I just felt a little cheated. I also bought glasses online because I would rather spend my insurance on contacts, and they let me in and adjusted them for me. Not recommended. I went to Eyeloha because it was in the neighborhood and listed as an eye care facility that accepted my insurance. I might add that my regular eye doctor does not even accept insurance, and I always pay out of pocket for my eye exams, (as well as all of my other medical expenses). However, it has been annoying to year after year run into the same problem with other eye doctors. The prescription written was way too strong. I've been wearing the same eye prescription for 10 years, but every year I have some idiot female doctor who cannot do her job properly try to prescribe an outrageously unnecessary prescription. Every time I have to go back to get it written to was it was before. I get my eyes checked every year as it is the only way for me to get my contact lenses, you have to have a current eye prescription written within a year. The new prescription Dr. Liu wrote made me sick to my stomach and gave me a really bad headache. She insisted that I at least try her recommendations because I was super reluctant to accept astigmatism in one eye, two different prescriptions in both eyes, and a full power stronger than what I was used to. Who wouldn't be? That is a really big deal... As suspected, I had to go back to her just to ask for my old Rx. Furthermore, AFTER my eye exam I was informed that they did not accept my insurance and once again I was stuck paying out of pocket to do someone else's job for them. I hate paying to do someone else's job. Not to mention she doesn't treat cash paying customers very well either. In my day, cash is king. You got the dough, you get the service. Not here! Dr. Li was totally rude when I went back to ask for my former prescription. She did not re-test my eyes. She didn't even ask about my eye history, nor did she care about how fortunate I have been to have the same prescription in both eyes, WHICH IS RARE. She insisted that her prescription was right, and was so pushy she basically forced me to try her stupid prescription, all to come back within 24 hours with a migraine headache and an upset stomach, no thank you. I have worn the same prescription for 10 years. I could probably increase the power safely by -.25, or -.50 at the most but not by a whole -1.00. In fact, it is best to change in increments of .25 or -.25 to give eyes time to adjust. If done properly I may never need that -4.50 (nearly blind) prescription. But she did not re-test my eyes, wrote me the wrong prescription in both eyes, and did not try to stabilize them at a lower power. For telling Dr. Liu how to do her job, and then paying for it, she was not very pleasant as a doctor either. She is more like a salesperson. She didn't care about the health of my eyes, she only cared about making the sale. I finally went back to my regular eye doctor, and though I was a little bit disappointed to find out that I am in fact not going blind, since I was definitely prepared for the worst after my experience at EYELOHA, it was actually a relief when he told me that I did not NEED to change my current prescription from what he had prescribed for me 10 years ago... Every single female doctor that I have had since him has done the same thing as Dr. Li, over-prescribe. The medical field is a money market for salespersons such as Dr. Liu. She claimed that her prescription gave me 20/20 vision and any other information for her was irrelevant. Funny how I went back to the best eye doctor in the world to have him tell me that a new prescription was not "NEEDED" and I could stay at the same prescription I have been wearing for 10 years... I had been bracing myself for worse news, but the tragic reality is that no news is good news. I will gladly pay for services rendered, but paying to render services, NOT SO MUCH. read more

If I could give this place a 0 star I would. I called to get my daughter an eye exam, and possibly glasses, and was told since I only have a gift certificate from to association of nurses to get a free exam and not actually pay them, that he would not help me. Let me say this again, I have a certificate that allows my daughter a free exam and possible glasses and because this office is not getting paid directly they refused to help me. I've been coming to Eyeloha for several years now and can't recommend them enough. Dr. Li and Nestor make you feel so comfortable and even though I only come once a year, some how they remember me and various aspects of my life (marriage, dog, etc.). They are friendly and personable and are able to schedule quickly. The only down side is the parking situation, but usually street parking is available. I would definitely recommend Eyeloha for your eye care needs! read more

I Always get the best service and advice every time I'm due for a renewal! Dr. Li remembers me each time, and takes the time to catch up with whatever has happened since our last meeting. She clearly explains everything your insurance has to offer, and gives you plenty of options to make sure you're getting what you need! This was my second visit since I moved here from New York two years ago. Dr. Li and Nestor are excellent in providing care and customer service. I am always seen on time and enjoy the overall experience. I wear glasses most often and contacts only occasionally. Dr. Li does a great job. She is professional, thorough, experienced and has a very calm and reassuring demeanor. I have been a patient here for several years. My adult children also are patients here, one of whom has been seeing Dr. Li since he was a child. Her assistant Nestor is wonderful. He is kind and efficient and I value his opinion when selecting new eyeglass frames. He is always helpful and able to answer any questions. Eyeloha has a wide variety of frames to choose from. I have been wearing glasses or contacts since I was in 4th grade and this is the first optometrist that talked WITH me instead of talked TO me. Dr. Li is so genuine and honest that it makes you feel comfortable the moment you walk in the door. I walked in there last week because it was recommended by 2 of my coworkers so I thought I would just pop in and make an appointment for this week. I told Dr. Li I was in need of an exam and contacts and she said "I can take you right now". Unfortunately I was unable to do it at that moment but was able to schedule something for early this week. In the past I have always been pushed into a type of contact because of what the doctor thought I would want and it has not always worked out. Dr. Li gave me some options with extended wear and daily contacts and even game me a 5 day trial on the dailies to see how I liked them. Overall, it was the best experience I have had at the eye doctor. The only downside is that it is a year in between appointments! read more

Aloha! I tried Dr. Li on a whim and the catchy name. I love small business in general and support whenever possible. It was fun to see the ocean driving into Pacific Beach and as expected, parking was a little tight however a few spaces were available on the street for larger vehicles. Dr. Li is bright and cheery, professional, fun, down to earth and super patient. The office is new, clean and bright and all the equipment appeared new. To her compliment is her front office staff who treated me in a non rushed and again, very patient manner. Nestor asked if I needed help choosing frames (ha, ha - I need help with everything). He did that and then explained every option possible for the lens features and I honestly don't remember any eye technician being so thorough (even at the Shiley Center). So far this office is a perfect fit. My glasses are on order and we'll see how the fitting goes in a couple of weeks. I purchased an additional pair for computer usage and am looking forward to that and having less eye strain at the end of my normal work day. Mahalo nui Eyeloha! read more

I went to Eyeloha because they're near my place in PB. Turns out they're one of the best optometry offices I've ever used--Dr. Li is incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and easy to work with, and she will provide you with plenty of recommendations for you. I went for a contact lens checkup and was able to try several varieties to help with dry eyes, and they were generous enough to help me out with a trial pair when I was low and couldn't order more lenses yet. I have never given a bad review, but felt I needed to this time. I just called because my husband scratched his cornea and had gone to urgent care. He was in quite a bit of pain so I decided to call Dr. Li as I had gone to her many times over the years. I simply asked if it was normal my husband was in so much pain and she said yes it does hurt. I asked one more question regarding the eye drops he was given and she simply said he can make an appointment with her because she does not give free advice over the phone. Really? I would hardly call it free as I have given her a lot of money over the years! And can we not act human anymore and take a couple precious minutes to answer a few questions or is it just for the money??? Time to look for a new optometrist. Year two of using Eyeloha services and had another excellent experience. Went through the process of correcting my astigmatism or not which took a month of trial and error to ensure the very best result. It is one thing in the office and another at night, in the office, reading versus computer... daily versus, weekly, monthly...Dr Li held the course with me until I got exactly what I wanted. She really knows her stuff and was a pleasure to work with - she actually has a sense of humor too! At no fault to this office, my frames had a small piece break. They ordered the new piece and fixed the frames at no cost.. but even that wasn't up to their level of customer service. Dr. Li and Nestor at Eyeloha are great. They were helpful at every step from my insurance plan benefits, to the appointment, glasses, and contacts. Dr. Li was very thorough during the exam and very nice and personable. I never have been able to stabilize my clarity and astigmatism, and my prescription seems to go up or down every year for both. I finally feel like the prescription and contacts are perfect and I can see for desk work, outdoor activity, night driving, etc. I also needed to update my glasses after 10 years, and I found the frame selection to be good, and I'm happy with my choice. I started going to Dr. Li a little over a year ago, shortly after she bought the former practice and rechristened it as Eyeloha. I have seen her twice now, and have been extremely happy with both the care she has provided and the glasses she has recommended. Dr. Li has done wonders with the office, completely remodeling it into a beautiful and comfortable space. She maintained the office staff who had worked with the prior doctor, and they are all very nice and professional. I regret coming here for an exam. I got recommended to them by a friend and after reading the reviews, I thought it would be a lot better than I experienced. I called them about a week ago to schedule an eye exam and asked what the cash price would be. The man on the phone told me $39.99. I reconfirmed with him 3x before hanging up. I told them that I didn't want my eyes dilated either a day before my appointment and he questioned me, asking why and that I can talk to the doctor about it. I arrive a half hour early for my appointment and he told me to come back since someone else was still being seen. I wait outside and get called in 10 minutes later when the girl is leaving. I go in and fill out a new patient form. When I saw the doctor, she told me a couple things I was not aware of at all. She wanted to put eye drops in but didn't say for what and I kept blinking. She said "oh you're one of those" and grew extremely frustrated with me. She kept giving me instructions but I asked her not to do the drops. She proceeded to tell me that my "phobia" is going to make the eye surgeon if I need surgery and other eye doctors very pissed off at me because of it. I'm not sure if she had a bad day but I did not need any of the berating I got today. She also told me that I will need to be on A LOT of Valium if I ever needed to get surgery. When I was done, I went up to the man and he said I owed them $99.. not the $39.99 that we talked about on the phone. I will never come back ever again. read more

I first chose this optometry office due to the central location in PB. I had originally saw the previous doctor (Dr. Luskin). When it changed ownership, I figured I'd still go due to it being walking distance from my apartment. I've been extremely pleased with Dr. Li as she seems more like a friend than a doctor to me. Our visits are mostly consumed with catching up and sharing about life, family and travel, with a quick and painless eye exam thrown in there.
