I first came upon Dr. Burnstine when my ophthalmologist friends all told me they've done rotations with Eyesthetica and he's the god of oculoplastics. I went through a really harrowing experience in Korea and I really thought my life was over for a good 4 months. They performed a canthoplasty, fat grafting and altered my lids from tapered to parallel. I ended up with less open eyes, ectropion which at first was mistaken for a bump that could be done away with steroids, and bags that wouldn't go away. I did so much research and didn't think initially that putting the tendons back together was the solution until I flew to NyC and heard it as the solution as a second opinion. I didn't think it'd be possible to do this and maintain my size, but somehow Dr. Burnstine and Dr. Conger did it. Beyond skills and knowledge, the doctors here are just very caring and have excellent bedside manner, unlike some of the ones who you read reviews about in Bev Hills who treat you as if they are simply too busy. I was just fully cleared from my eyelid procedure performed by Dr Burnstine. The overall experience at Eyesthetica Pasadena was quite good. The office staff and medical assistants are outstanding, always polite, always professional, and always pleasant to deal with. Dr Burnstine seems caring and very knowledgeable. I initially had the option to have my procedure fully covered by insurance, but would leave a scar under my eyebrow line. Not bad but I was concerned that the scar would leave a more pronounced line even under the hair, and that it would reduce my hair growth. Instead, I paid for a $10K procedure out of pocket. This procedure would be hidden under the folds of my eyelid, a much more natural result. The procedure itself was an outpatient procedure which took under 2 weeks to heal to the point that it was unnoticeable. The post-operative care was also very seamless and I was constantly asked if there were any concerns. Photos were used to compare the pre to post-op results. My only gripe is that I wish they had given me the option to choose the amount of lift in the eyelid crease. It was never proposed to me, nor was I ever shown any rendered comparisons. In today's technological world, it wouldn't be hard to have a computer generated facsimile of what I would look like post procedure. The end result of my procedure is functionally great, but I would have preferred more lift as my skin tends to be loose and the visual result is not significant. Functionally, the improvements give me a greater field of vision and I don't feel as sleepy, but having spent $10K, I would have enjoyed the benefit of a more lifted eyes. The only time I was informed of what level of lift/crease was after I was under the local anesthesia and Dr Burnstine informed me that he was going with a more subtle crease, even though the nurse assistant felt that it should be more lifted/higher. I would have agreed with the assistant had I been given a choice, because a year after the procedure, my eyelid skin is already sagging, making the procedure almost unnoticeable. At the end of the day, was the $10K worth it? The insurance covered procedure would have given me the exact same functional result, but perhaps left a scar under each eyebrow. Whereas paying for this procedure left no scar, and equally improved function... but I can't help but wish I would have been given a choice. read more

Not only do they have random availabilities of doctors that cycle around offices located in wildly different parts of the city/county (traffic is a thing) -- but I had to *beg* them to stop calling me trying to reschedule and confirm my appointment. This review is for Dr. Burnstine. I had a tarsorrhaphy eye procedure and had an adverse reaction to the stitches. The surgeon that performed this was in Orange County (far for a simple cut). I found this surgeon around 12 minute drive vs nearly 2 hours (each way). Burnstine make a big show of how I should really go to the surgeon that performed the procedure because it would require a procedure (he alluded to this being a much bigger deal than a few seconds to cut it out). Meanwhile, I ended up having it cut out by a surgeon in Beverly Hills (super nice and efficient). He cut out the growth in under one minute! Meanwhile, this doctor wouldn't cut out the growth HOWEVER, he was eager to talk me into another surgery. I was open to fixing it, should it not heal properly (not right away). My cornea needed time to heal. Prior to finding the aforementioned docto, he said it should resolve but if it doesn't, give him a call. Well, it got worse (grew more and turned black (nasty looking)) and I did email him hoping he would get back to me the following week. I even asked if he knew anyone LOCALLY that would be able to cut the growth. Did he respond the following week.....NO! He waited nearly two weeks until he deemed me worthy of an email response. I am not looking for anyone to run to email or phone but that is just plain rude after I reached out. I would never trust this doctor if ANYTHING goes wrong. Also, may I add, he is THE ABSOLUTE most pompous doctor I have ever met. He wanted my neurosurgical records for what I have no idea. Prior eye notes, I understand but not anything else. I have had two procedures on the eye and they barely looked at the eye notes. Additionally, he had the audacity to say I was someone focused on their looks simply because I showed him a picture PRIOR to my procedure. My head was in the books (went to a top three school, got my MBA from a top three business school, and have a design portolio to boot. I did not live my life staring in a mirror. Yes, we all want to look our best but that doesn't necessarily equate to 'vanity.' II also have to say, I looked online and was not impressed with the ptosis revisions so, this worked out for the best. I am happy he went to Harvard. My second neurosurgeon went there as well yet damaged my nerves to the point I had to learn to walk, eat, etc.. Going to an Ivy does not mean ANYTHING if you are not super skilled AND attained some bedside manner. I really wanted to write this sooner but I got busy with work. Side note I was charged around 25.00 (somewhere around that) and then that was reduced to around 15.00 (reduction offered when I complained) for a picture of my eye. Why would I want a color paper photo of this is beyond me?!). I was the unlucky recipient of this color copy sent to me in the mail (I guess to justify spending money on this nonsense). I was not told there was a charge to take a digital photo. When I phoned to say I was not paying it, I got all kinds of runaround to talk to some manager that said she would 'look into it.' I was billed again until I said no. This was such a terrible experience that I wanted to document this when I had a few minutes (I type fast). Also, I am not on here often as this happened last year. I recently had an Asian blepharoplasty performed by Dr. Burnstine and I am very happy with my results. As a physician myself, I was referred to Dr.Burnstine by my primary doctor, whose own brother is a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon. My doctor had told me that her surgeon brother will not perform blepharoplasties because it is difficult to get good and natural results. Her brother advised her that blepharoplasties are best done by subspecialists. That being said, my own mother had a blepharoplasty perform by a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon some years ago. After her surgery, her lids looked very unnatural and it was very apparent that she had work done on her eyes. It took a number of years for her eyes to finally look more natural. With that in mind, I was very wary and wanted to find the right surgeon. I did my research on Dr. Burnstine, who is well published and well regarded in his field. He is the director of the Oculofacial Plastic Surgery fellowship at the USC Roski Eye Institute and instructs other surgeons in training. When I first met Dr. Burnstine at his Pasadena Clinic, my first impression was that he was a nice and thoughtful person with a calm disposition. When he had asked me what I wanted to accomplish with my surgery, I had many ideas in my head of these amazing before and after surgery pics that I had seen on the Internet. After hearing my thoughts, he advised me of what he thought he can do for me to give me a natural and good result. Although what I had initially envisioned was not exactly what he advised, I trusted his experience and judgement and followed through with his recommendation. A month later, I went ahead with the procedure. The procedure took about an hour. It was done under local anesthesia with little discomfort. Dr. Burnstine was talking to me throughout the procedure, making sure I was ok. Afterwards, he gave me his cellphone number, and asked me to contact him if I had any post operative concerns. After surgery, my eyelids were swollen. I had a small faint black eye on one side. Following the post-operative instructions, a lot of my swelling went down in about 1.5 weeks. As I am in a profession where I am mostly alone in a dark room all day, I was able to go back to work within a week. During my recovery, I had some concerns and I contacted Dr. Burnstine several times. Every time, he had always answered my call or returned my call in a timely and professional manner. I am now two month post op. My eyes are mostly healed. I don't consider myself a vain person, but I am so glad I went through with the surgery. I feel that my eyes look brighter and more youthful, but at the same time, they look very natural. I get a lot of compliments from my friends and co-workers who have seen me before my procedure. Even my husband, who told me initially that I really didn't need the surgery, feels that my eyes look a lot better. Other remarks: The reception and ancillary staff are courteous and helpful. He is a wonderful doctor and I have nothing but glowing reviews of my experiences with him. The office, however, is possibly the WORST doctor's office I have ever been to and that is entirely because of the unpleasant, incompetent, and glaringly rude reception staff. Dr Burnstine did an upper and lower blepharoplasty surgery to treat my eyes that were looking a lot older than I actually am. The results are amazing. Once the bruising went away (don't be in a rush here, folks-this takes a few weeks) I could hardly believe how much better my eyes look. Especially the under eye bags: incredible difference. I am very disappointed with this place which was referred by my eye doctor. Waited a long time to see the doctor. Put money down as a deposit and the next day we tried to cancel the procedure and was told half the money would not be returned. Wonderful practice. I had a suspicious lesion on both eye lids and they were able to get me in right away. I had surgery on both eyes one week later. I went to the LA office on Grand first and then went to Pasadena for the surgery. The staff was amazing, very nice, very competent. Dr. Burnstine is extremely skilled, and I was done in a short time with very little discomfort. I would highly recommend the practice for patients with both medical issues and elective ocular surgical needs. The complexity of cases that they do makes them the best at the regular cases.
