Been waiting 8 months for a pair of glasses. Their lab can't get it right. Eyestyles staff used to be great but things have changed. Now they are unresponsive and unhelpful. First, I would like to start out that I've had glasses since I was in 1st grade. I know my eyes pretty well. I, because I'm also pretty blind, have been used to not seeing but have always thought my prescription was on pare. Dr. Thorsland, although quick, was able to identify a new prescription quite fast! I was thoroughly impressed and quite startled when he completed the last step and I could see ---crystal clear. I literally kind of jumped a little in my seat b/c I had never had a eye prescription exam do that. The reason for 4 stars is, although Carly was awesome, their eyewear prices were out of my price range. Carly was patient and we finally found a pair that I could "afford" w/o breaking my FSA bank before mid-year. I wanted to purchase my first prescription eyewear with them because there is a guarantee that they'll fix the prescription if it isn't right. Figured keep everything in one shop in case something goes awry, especially with a new prescription. That said, I really wish they offered more of a selection in eyewear, in all price points (I honestly expect $150+ for boutique). This was a great experience for me, and I look forward to my next eye exam - when I update this review. read more

Great service here. My first prescription and I have a hard time finding something that fits my dome, but this was the visit above all. I walked in and was greeted immediately. After explaining my difficulty finding something that's wide enough with the simplicity I was looking for, a sales representative called out and said she'd get me squared away. She sat me down and looked over me for about 10 seconds and said she's got it! She opened a case and brought 3 pairs I liked so much, I actually had a hard time picking between all three! Now, you need to know that I've been to 7 places and couldn't find a single pair that worked. The funny thing is that I was looking for a plain pair of black, plastic rectangular frames. She showed me a metal/wire type and as soon as I tried it on, I was sold! I was surprised to find out they were $600 before the additional $250 for the lenses, but knew I had to get them. I had to check a few other places before making my choice, but I had to settle. That's what insurance is for...right? read more

By far the best eye exam I have ever had. Dr. Thorsland has an incredible bedside manner. He and his staff made me feel comfortable from the time I walked through the door. The doctor was incredibly thorough using the latest technology as well as the traditional techniques. He diagnosed and found a solution to my vision problems that no other doctor has been able to help me with. There was no hard sell on new frames. They took my old frames and ordered the appropriate lenses. They have some really cool frames so I bought a second pair as well with the assistance of the great staff. Very impressed. read more

After years of using the big chain stores for my glasses, I decided to try out some local stores to see if I would like it. Initially, I tried one downtown and quickly found they take the "keep Portland weird" slogan seriously. Then, I came to my senses and tried Eye Styles in Bridgeport Village. The store is clean, well laid out and has a vast variety of glasses to choose from. The staff is very friendly and helpful; we initially talked to Rutger, then finished up with Shaz. She was an expert with the frames, an expert with the lenses, an expert with the styles, and an expert with the insurance. I get the feeling the entire staff here is at the top of the food chain in their field. Yes, the frames here are expensive, but the quality makes up for it; with my VSP insurance, I actually only paid about $50 more than my prior set of glasses at the mall store. My glasses were done quickly (7 days). When I picked them up, the store was super busy, so Dr. Thorsland came out to help me, and I was fitted and out the door in no time at all. Best eye glasses shopping experience in 30 years. Great job! read more

Optometrist: Knowledgeable, Patient, and Supportive are the three best word to describe the optometrist here. He will answer every single question that you have. I personally feel bad because our appointment ran more than the allocated time. He will always warn you on what he's doing and tell you the reason behind his actions. Store: Among the best collection in Portland, especially for wider head person like myself. Modern looking without being too eccentric is a common time. Modernist architecture is the inspiration of the brands that this store carry. Granted the price is higher, but the selection is much better. They support many insurance providers and the process is painless as they know what they are doing. :) read more

Awesome service! Very friendly staff and they made sure I was comfortable at all times! I didn't feel rushed and that my time was important to them. They also kept their prices low so that I wouldn't have to pay more than what my insurance covered. The optometrist was wonderful as well. It was my 2nd time getting my eyes checked in my life and it had been 5 years since my last appointment. He was very thorough, kind and explained everything that he was doing and why. TWO THUMBS UP! I had a great experience from start to finish. The front desk gals were friendly, helpful and patient. I had a hard time getting the correct positioning for my retinal photograph, but the gal was really patient and helpful with me. Dr. Shin was very thorough and talked me through every step of the process. He was informative and explained things in a way that was easy to understand. My husband was going to have an appointment right after mine, but Dr.Shin noticed it had been about 5 months since my husbands last visit with him and gave him the pros and cons of going through with the appointment now or waiting closer to a year from his last visit. You could tell he cared about what would be best for the patient and not just his bottom line. After my exam, a gal at the front desk(I've forgotten her name) was very helpful when it came to picking out frames that would look good on my face. I liked the style she was picking out, but they were a little more expensive than I was looking for. When I asked her if there was something similar in a lower price point she didn't hesitate to show me some other options. I enjoyed my experience here and will come back. read more

Just picked up my new glasses and had a wonderful experience. I love coming here. They have unique frames that you don't see everywhere.

I ordered glasses from them and called back two days later to cancel my order and they refused that they have no return policy. Beware that if you buy something from them the sales are final, which no one tells you until you want to do a return. Never using them again, because I like to have the option of returning something if I don't like. Besides that their prices are way above what other places offer. I found the same frames at a different eyewear store for cheaper. read more

I thought I could just go order the frames that my husband picked out at another store where we found out we were not in-network. We emailed Eye Styles to make sure they had the Mikita line, which they did. The hubs had to watch the NFL playoffs, and I was on errands in Bridgeport anyways, so I stopped in to order the frames and lenses. Come to find out, we needed my husband's pupillary measurement, which I did not have, so it was a somewhat failed attempt. However, Rutger was so helpful. He knew my husband would have to come in and get his measurement, so Rutger copied his prescription and downloaded the insurance benefits to have ready for when my husband would return. He and the other sales rep (a female, pregnant, tall) were both so friendly and nice. I told my husband that he HAS to order from there, just because of how nicely I was treated. Great customer service is hard to come by these days, but not if you stop in at Eye Styles at Bridgeport!!! Large selection of frames to choose from. Very nice eye wear. Unfortunately, I really can't recommend Dr. Thorsland. He alllots only15 minutes per patient (the office staff told me this) This is true even for kids getting fit with new contacts. He didn't try more than one pair of contacts on my daughter's eyes, and never checked her vision after it was inserted! He checked the fit, but only very quickly, and rushed us out of there. As a result, my daughter left with contacts that caused her headaches and slid off her eye. Sloppy job, all around. We ultimately found another optician who patiently tried out 2-3 pairs until we found one that fit her well. I am giving this place two stars, instead of one, because although we didn't like Dr. Thorsland, his staff was wonderful. They were very kind, caring and patient. read more

I recently purchased new glasses from Eye Styles in Bridgeport Village, and it was a great experience. Wow what a difference shopping in a nice boutique for glasses when I was used to buying from a big box store or my eye doctor's office. Shopping at Eye Styles was FUN. On my first visit to the store, I went with my wife, and she helped me pick out some frames, and on my second trip Joann with Eye Styles help me select some more frames. Pro: my insurance to see him for full exam is only $15 He takes his time, listens, and explains things very well and in as much detail as you need/want He's an ophthalmologist - not an optometrist He & his staff, Amy, is really nice and easy to talk to His prescriptions are spot-on & hee diagnosed issues that went unnoticed by others which made my vision so much better than in the past Con: None except he works in facility that creates lenses & sells frames that are very pricy (Bridgepot Village) - however you can take your prescription to Costco - so really another pro-positive I have happily referred others to see him. If you have vision coverage - go to the very best (Dr Thorsland) for the same price as anywhere else!! read more

The staff called me back to make an appointment or offer a refund for the lenses. I took the first option and the optometrist completely redid my prescription. I got the glasses the other day and they are much better. All I needed was a very light change to my vision to improve distance. I wore them for a day and it's very hard for me to get used to wearing glasses after 31 years of not doing so. Not the optometrists fault at all, just a period of conditioning. The staff was helpful and friendly and they did a great job making my experience better. read more

Good doctor who was able to meet my eye needs, but terrible price transparency and business execution. I was sold contacts lenses and mislead to believe the rebate would reimburse my out of pocket expenses. They'll sell you contact lenses with an expired rebate, so watch out. They wouldn't accept them as a return. Don't come here if you want transparent prices. Not to mention you'll receive calls weeks later saying you owe them contact lens fittings or other fees they didn't bother to include in the upfront costs. You'll find cheaper prices elsewhere, with better price transparency and customer service. Tell everyone you know not to come here, they have a high rent to pay here at Bridgeport, go figure they'd want to rip you off for all they can get from your insurance. read more

Dr. Thorsland is wonderful. He really takes the time to get an accurate prescription. My daughters and I all had major adjustments to our prescriptions and now see so much better! It really does make a difference who you see. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. They store has a wide selection of unique and fun frames, although they are pretty expensive if not covered by insurance. The exam price was comparable to other places. When I got new glasses last year I went to the Bridgeport Village location and while the frames were expensive, titanium is not cheap, the customer service was decent and it was local. So when my contacts came up for renewal I thought to go here. Since our F.I.N.E. politicians are so corrupt I no longer get vision with my health care insurance, I planned on paying out of pocket. I knew that by going to a local and one that had such a high rent space like Bridgeport village that I would pay more than average...then they told me it would be $195.00! I told the girl she was crazy and went down the street to Americas Best where the charged me $79.00 for the same service. When I challenged the girl as to why it was so much she was happy to tell me that they would double bill me...once for the eye exam and then again for the eye exam. Support local is not for some greedy POS to get one over on you, these people will never again get money from me or anyone I know. read more
