Insanely over priced. Might as well head to downtown for better and cheaper fabric! The fabric looks like they've collected a lot of dust. 20 per yard on some of the fabric.... can't do much with a yard! Its also annoying when the sales clerk plays 21 questions when asking if you need something. I felt inclined to purchase something out of pity. If you have a stacked wallet and don't mind flushing your money down the gutter, then this is the place for you. If you like your fabric old and dirty, then this is the goldmine. read more

I've been a customer of Fabric Planet long before the Venice store opened until now. I used to shop at the downtown location until they opened the Venice store. Jordan was awesome, she was very knowledgable and always excited about the new fabric that had arrived. Then one day she was just gone, but the other girls who worked there were great. Julianne became my new favorite and always helped me come up with great ideas. Then out of nowhere she was gone too! The next few trips to Fabric Planet were overwhelming and negative experience. I remembered Jedd at the downtown store and attempted to go there for better service then I was getting in Venice. To my surprise Jedd was gone too!!! I saw the same guy who gave me such a bad taste at the Venice store and he was rude and extremely unhelpful. Sadly, with out these three people working for the company it has turned for the worse. Location is not the best since it is on Lincoln Blvd., but they do have parking which is a bonus. Also for the neighborhood you don't have many arts or fabric stores around so if you must go here, then it will suffice. Just be prepared to spend some time in here, as you walk in you see fabric everywhere and don't even know where to begin. I was offered help rather quickly but the place did not have what i needed, so I ended up going to Michael's. Prices were on the high side. read more

Ok, it is Christmas season and costumes to be made and I am not the craftiest person at all. But I walk in and discuss what I want to make and emphasize that I am not that creative and don't know how to use a sewing machine, so HELP! And HELP they did. Immediately they knew what fabrics would be perfect and alternative ideas to sewing, best ribbon to use, etc. Plus side, it was all so inexpensive!! Love this place!!! An older, eclectic fabric shop that you'd only find in Venice. I've always enjoyed looking through their often fun and weird selections. I only wish the service were better and that the people working there were more knowledgeable about the fabrics they sell. Any time I've asked for advice based on what I was trying to accomplish with a fabric, I'd get a shrug of the shoulders, or I'd be given information that was totally inaccurate. They also do bad business when it comes to custom orders like curtains and pillows. Hours after I placed my curtain order and paid for the fabric, I learned that the lining that had been recommended to me by one of their uninformed employees would not block the amount of sunlight I needed it to. When I called back to describe the situation and change the liner, I was told that I would not be reimbursed for the liner I had already purchased even though it was still in their possession and they had not begun the sewing process. After several back-and-forths and bad attitudes, I was finally connected to the manager who told me that he would reimburse me for the fabric, but that he was going to increase the rate for making the curtains because the new liner was thicker. I come from a family of tailors and I knew this price increase made no sense, but I wasn't about to start this process all over again at another store just to save a little bit of money, so I relented. The curtains Fabric Planet made for me are now up and I have to say I'm disappointed. It came back to me wrinkled, the workmanship was OK and, despite going with a blackout liner, the curtains still let through way too much light. Unfortunately, what could be a fun and quirky, mom-and-pop-style fabric shop is nothing more than a typical overpriced, low-integrity, attitude-laden LA business. read more

This store is super stellar, as well as the staff and owner. Upcycling fabric remnants is a large part of my little business, so imagine my surprise when there were three large bins filled to the rim with leftovers from cuts and other in-house projects. It was such a blast, they let me dig deep for a good hour, and I walked out with a ton of great looking scraps - for less than $20! Outside of the remnants, they have a large selection of quality picks for very reasonable prices. And I'm still in shock that a fabric store this awesome exists when sewing seems to be on the decline! read more

Fabric Planet did an amazing job sewing our purple mohair velvet pillow covers. They estimated that it would take one week for the job, but It only took them three days to sew two 19" x 19" covers with piping and zippers. Pretty cool place if you want a laid back local place to get a variety of fabrics. The staff seems really friendly and they want to be helpful, which is nice. They just don't have as much organization or tidiness as I would prefer, nor as much of the accessories - looking for pins and for different thread colors to purchase, came up with extremely small selection. I love this unusual fabric store. Really nice, helpful young people working there. I was in there buying fabric one day and thought I'd ask if they knew of anyone who could fix a moth hole in my favorite (expensive) wool sweater. I happened to have the sweater in my car. They took it to their seamstress in the back who said she could fix it and would charge me only $10!!! I had expected to pay much more than that. When I picked it up, I could NOT find where the hole had been. I don't sew as much as I used to but when I have fabric needs, this is where I go. read more

I'm a big fan of this place. My bf and I went last week to pick out some new curtains and before going, measured the windows the old fashioned way, with my arms. I told the guy how many yards (arms) I needed and we were on our way. Got home to discover that one panel was shorter than the others so I went back the next day. Come to find out, I had measured the window incorrectly (I know, I was surprised too). The man was super nice and cut a brand new panel, free of charge. First I was really excited to find a fabric store near my home. I walked in and saw fabric everywhere. In no way was it organized. I then thought okay it is a fabric store looking for what i wanted and could find it but did find some cool scraps that was something i needed. I then looked around for an employee to help me and had to wait for awhile while she was helping someone. After about 15 min someone was able to help me search the DISORGANIZED STORE. She didnt find it so i was okay with that. I then asked her how much the scraps cost (thinking it was free) and then she told me it was $1 a piece. I was shocked! I definitly wont waist my time there every again. Also the prices for the fabrics was a big RIP OFF!!!!! read more

A funky little fabric shop. You really can't put your finger on what they have. For sure this is not the place to go to for your basic sewing and or fabric needs as it is more or less a surplus store. So wander in when your in the neighborhood so you know what to expect but don't expect zippers, bobbins, threads or an assortment of like fabrics. read more

Planet fabric is wonderful. I was very particular on the color and feel of my baby nursery. Needless to say it was all custom made. My mom and I trekked all over beverly hills trying to get someone to sew everything for me after spending a fortune on fabrics. No one would do it. Then she remembered planet fabric...they did all my crib bedding plus anything else I needed. They even made me a rug. Celia is amazing with her sewing skills! They are fantastic people and I would not go anywhere else again...the prices are also great. read more

I came here for a large order of t-shirts. I took a sample off the rack (in the store) and was told I needed to pay up front, but that I would get the EXACT same t-shirt in a heather gray. I paid over $200, and the following day was given two samples of a t-shirt that was nowhere near the same as the sample. I asked for my money back, the owner apologized and told me he could get the same shirts in two days. When I finally received the shirts, they were NOT AT ALL like the sample and the medium sizes of the shirts I was given did not match the medium size of the sample shirt, they were much larger. Went back with the large order and told the employee I wanted my money back, he called the owner who basically only offered store credit. I have no use for over $200 worth of fabric store credit, and am now stuck with 35 t-shirts that are not at all what I paid for - not the size, feel, fabric or color. read more

This was my very first visit to this place and I was highly disappointed. I went in search of some lace. I went because of all the good reviews I read on here. Needless to say my experience was not pleasant. When I first arrived, the woman who worked there did not acknowledge me nor did she ask me if i needed any help. So as I began to look around a young man came in and he walked right past me and did not ask me if I needed any help. So I approached him and told him what it was I was looking for. He walked me over to the area where the lace was and walked off. Once I found something that I wanted, I had to go and retrieve him again. Needless to say this store is overpriced, so I passed on the fabric. I got some other supplies that I needed (these items were overpriced as well) I know this is LA and good customer service is rare. But these people were rude the store is very disorganized, and over priced. Your better off going downtown or to another fabric store. read more
