My first thought when walking in to this place: '...I'm never going to JoAnne's again!' I found exactly what I was looking for before I even finished walking in the door. (tulle at [what!] $1/yard) Their incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff gave me some great ideas and tips on my project (tutu), which was great because I had never made one before. I really had to control myself in here and it took all of my inner strength and willpower to only buy exactly what I had come in for. I literally had to tear myself away from the $1/yard fabrics and huge bins of assorted buttons and zippers ($1 zippers!!). I only had a small project today, but got some real motivation while walking around their incredible and fairly priced fabric selection. This will be my first stop for my next project. I'm so disappointed that I never walked in here before, it's totally a crafter's playground. read more

First time here today, and I'm def a fan! Bunches of fabric and trim options - I'll for sure be back VERY soon! I had a little trouble figuring out the prices on some of the fabric, which made it tricky to make decisions on what I was going to buy. Most of their fabric is labeled, but I just kept getting unlucky with the ones I liked not being marked. I'm the type of shopper that likes everything clearly labeled. I don't like to have to ask about prices... That said, that was the ONLY downside to my shopping experience today. Otherwise - a BIG thumbs up. read more

I shop this business down town and am so happy to find out they just opened a beautiful store here in Venice Beach as I live in VB. The store rocks, beautiful and what a selection of fabrics, laces, trip etc. Prices are always good here, this would be my first stop if your looking for fabric supply for those costume or other projects. Discovered this place by accident. Loved it! bought several yards of 100% silk for a reasonable price $12/yd (yeaa! don't have to drive downtown and wade through the traffic on maple to get decently priced fabric--not as cheap as downtown, but add the cost and annoyance of traffic, parking and annoying people and it's worth it just to head here. And, i'm also just way too impatient to wait for an online order when I get an idea, hehe) The dollar bin outside was fun. Waaaay better than most $1 fabrics, since they are more random. The woman that ran the store was very helpful and will definitely be going back. read more

I was a jerk and a bad customer in this store. I had them cut material but then I didn't realize the whole cost of the project was too high and I had to make changes. I was flustered and angry but they were cool about it and I ended up walking out with the material and a loyalty to a business. Great selection & superb customer service! I stopped in on a Sunday eve to find some nice fabrics to drape over an ugly chair. I found so many great options, I bought three different textiles. Also, everyone that works there is helpful, friendly, and awesome! The prices are fair and I LOVE that they were open til 7 pm on a Sunday (all the other fabric stores were closed). Interesting setup but I think it's just a bunch of Mill ends and leftover fabric. The trims and notions weren't anything to brag about. Not sure exactly what this place is, but S&S has a better selection of cheap fabric is that's what you're after. read more

I adore Fabric Planet. They are *not* a JoAnn's. They do not have all of the normal things you go looking for in a fabric store - but what they do have is that one perfect thing that will complete your project. You just don't know it! I go in there every week, and I always find something. From a crazy piece of elaborate trim (for only $2 to $5!), to a beautiful scrap of silk for a pillowcase (for $1!) to fabrics, leather, feathers, etc. for all projects, large & small, this store has it all. The staff is super helpful. If you can't find something, or want something specific, just ask. They all know exactly what is on the floor. So if you go in asking for anything from light gray faux fur to pure wool plaid, they'll point you at everything which even vaguely resembles it. Bonus points for allowing my well-behaved, polite, and cute dog to explore the store with me. read more

The customer service was great. Very helpful. Lots of special occasion fabrics for costumes or formal wear. I felt like they were asking too much for the average cotton fabrics, but the special fabrics were a good value. I loved the warehouse feel of the place. It's not easy to find your way around. Great selection of fabrics that are sectioned by type. It's a bit of a treasure hunt to go through all the types they have, but that is half the fun! The staff was knowledgeable about what was in stock and how to sew it together. The prices are on the higher side for fabrics, but it saves a trip to DTLA. I stopped in here one afternoon, after having a cheap lunch nearby. I'm not a very crafty person, but having just moved into a new apartment I was in need of some material to make curtains. I was surprised by their selection and prices (though judging by the size of the place, maybe I shouldn't have been). This is a really fun fabric store, and I love coming here for random projects. I've been here a couple times now, and they always have fun, pretty, and cool fabrics that you can get for any sort of project. There are all sorts of colors, materials, and textures that are trendy and designed well. It bums me out that I can't sew my own clothing because I want to wear all the fabrics that they have. The employees are really nice and super helpful, always willing to lend some advice and suggestions depending on what project you're working on. He then adeptly directed me to various fabrics and trims I needed, knowledgeably informing me of their properties and care instructions and their store inventory. Mid-way through my selections he let me know they were closing/closed but that I could stay to finish up. Another helpful young man joined in cutting yardage and checking me out. Living in Orange County presents limited fabric choices; my favorite is Las Amigas in Santa Ana. Fabric Planet is similar in friendly, professional service and a wide variety of beautiful fabric and fantastic prices. I choose four gorgeous textiles that I look forward to creating beautiful outfits. I washed the material and all came out perfect, no shrinkage, no fraying, and the colors did not run. This place is AWESOME! Upon walking in, it's not exactly what you'd expect. It has a little bit of a warehouse feel to it but it's totally organized and manageable if you're willing to do a little digging. This isn't some corporate fabric and craft store, this is a treasure trove of unique and oddball fabrics, trims, notions, JARS and JARS and BINS of buttons! AND the service was fantastic, both sales people were knowledgeable in that they offered, were more than willing to help, and went above and beyond with digging for some eyelet trim I was being pretty picky over. The prices in my opinion are better than JoAnns, where you wait weeks and weeks for some meager sale or coupon offer to apply to fabric for a reasonable price. If yo're in the area GO! This place is like raiding your grandmother's closet or garage for pieces you won't find anywhere else! AND they have a downtown warehouse that's supposed to be open to the public that I'm itching to go to! read more

Nice array of trims, fabric, and buttons. Parking can be tough in this area, but there usually aren't too many people in the store at one time, so you can just park outside the store. I've had a lot of luck trolling through the scraps boxes to find things for small projects. read more

This is a real deal fabric store. The people are helpful and the variety is good. I've always found ANY type of ribbon, fabric, buttons, etc. in here. Every Halloween I find myself I going there last minute and they are always super nice and helpful. It's like a better, nicer Joanne's or any of those. I had such a good time at Fabric Planet! The ladies that run the place were lovely, and I found all sorts of great deals on normally quite pricey home decorator fabrics. I will say though that you have to be in the right mood to go to this store. Things are a bit scattered so you have to relax and have a good time while sifting through the place. There is a box parked outside of the store that contains bolts of fabric that are $1/yard for that day only. They explained to me that they choose at random, which is strange yet fun. read more

This place is fantastic. I went looking for upholstery for two old chairs and found out they had more than enough choices. All of it was arranged by color and fabric type so it made it really easy to search. I found what I was looking for and thought it would be more expensive per yard and was pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive it was. I had a look around at what else they had and found a wide selection of buttons, ribbons, and zippers. I'm looking forward to finishing my chairs so I can move onto the next project and return to the store. They also offer sewing classes every Sunday for a small fee (fabric included). read more

I rarely write a negative review, but I had such a horrible experience at this fabric store. I have shopped here a few times and have used their seamstress to make pillows. Most small businesses have an attitude of the customer is always right- but this place is the opposite. They did not care to try to make an issue right and were downright rude. There was an issue with the work on the pillow they made and the owner and the 2 salespeople ganged up on me when I had a complaint and were really mean-spirited and blamed me for signing off on the pillow. I thought I was signing that they understood what I was asking for, but it did not turn out like the example I brought in. The foam they used for it was completely different than the example I brought. I tried to make it work, but it was too tall for my need. When I asked them to cut down the foam and re-make it to the size I needed they agreed to-- but didn't change the pillow cover and presented it to me with an ill fitting baggy pillow cover. The pillow was not cheap-- it was $66 for a 21x 17 pillow and I brought my own fabric. I told them I was not happy and asked them to fix it and they said I would have to pay to fix it. I realize that I was confused by the measurements and didn't understand it would be stiff while my example had a give to it. I expected them as experts to guide me to the stuffing that would give the result I was asking for. They took no responsibility and were all really awful about the whole situation. read more

I really hate writing bad reviews, but I am dumbfounded by what this place didn't have. Other than some reasonably priced fabric, it had very little else one might need to sew -- like a selection of thread or other notions. Their idea of interfacing gave me a headache. So, it may be good for neon fun fur, but if you need to actually get accessories for sewing, forget it. Oh and the staff acted like I wasn't there. read more

This place was awesome! On a hunt for Burnningman and other costumes in mind, I realized it was too late to head into another fabric store I was in the other day. I saw that Fabric Planet was open, took it as a sign, and was amazed! I cannot rave enough! Everything for designing projects for costumes, sets, theater, fashion, art, you name it. An Artist/Designer's playground. Jacob was awesome and gave me soo many ideas for Burnningman and then added onto the ones I already had! I got so excited I started getting carried away with more projects! (Which was no problem because everything in the store was so well priced) I was able to get everything I had my heart set on and more! I'm definitely going back knowing I can keep trying new ideas. I bought a beaded piece that "Michaels" would have charged an 'arm and leg' for only $4!! Flowers for $1 and a yard of ribbon for $1!!! Shut up! I'm hooked!
