    the price of the pizza

Let's be honest... A lot of times money is straight up thrown away on crappy pizza... and finding a really well made pizza is kind of rare... Thankfully we can be lead in the right direction by people on our friends list here. The description that lead me here was spot on. It's by no means a fancy, contemporary spot.... But the pizza here is nothing short of great!! Between the dough recipe and the fact that they found the median ground between undercooking and over cooking the crust makes this one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time.. To be honest, it's the second place that's done it right recently. The customer service there isn't the typical service you receive in most pizza places. You're greeted by a young lady, who will seat you, bring you what's typically used on whatever meal you order, and constantly check to make sure that you're satisfied and to see if you'd like anything else. The only problem, is that it's 20 minutes from my home. It well worth the drive...

Some local food making related followers like this place- so I figured there was a food quality charm to it that I would enjoy. I like how they have a special of the week and then their regulars. Seating area available and apparently a VHS player lol. Retro music from the 60s or 70s playing right now and totally not my jam but fits in with the vibe of this place'. The pizza here leans toward a traditional style with potentially interesting flavors for your more artisan interested people like me. The special this week has a nice flavor and isn't boring. I added their handmade crushed red pepper which helps accentuate flavor just right. Great for a vegetarian or carnivore alike. I am not good with quality of dough but from experience, just by tasting it, I'd say the dough here is respectable quality. Staff here is friendly.

I've been constantly reading the continued hype, I figured I'd give C&S another try. We ordered the chicken parm square. It's really dense, and deceiving filling from such a tiny pie -10" square, if I recall. My college-aged son asked as I walked in the door, "That's it? What are else are we going to eat? Did you know it was going to be that little?" Neither of us was able to finish the pie, and we saved the rest as the next day's leftovers. As for the pie itself, it was good enough but not outstanding. The crust was somewhat crispy, probably more chewy. The overall flavor of the pie, chicken pieces, and red sauce - fine, I guess. Nothing earth shattering. The price though, is higher than other equivalent neighborhood pizza shops, by quite a bit. I guess that's why it has been so long since the last takeout. The pizza is good enough, but we're not seeing the value, nor understand the recent hype.

That was enough to get me in the door. When you first walk in, it looks like a neighborhood pub with a small bar and dining area. What I didn't realize was that there's an entire outdoor space hidden in the back! It's a huge patio with artificial grass, large screen TVs, plenty of seating, and a fun atmosphere for hanging out. They even have a large Kensington Pub display and, my favorite part, the front section of an actual Philadelphia trolley that you can climb into. It was such a cool touch and a great piece of Philly history. Their outdoor bathrooms were so clean and smells so good. This would be a fantastic place to watch a game. Thankfully, it wasn't crowded when we visited, so we were able to enjoy everything. Our server, Desiree, was friendly and attentive. The drinks were a mixed bag. I ordered a light Mike's Hard tea which tasted light!  My daughter started with a lemon drop martini, but it was very watered down, so she sent it back. She ordered a different blue cocktail instead and liked that one much better. I ordered the personal taco pizza. It was the perfect size, and the crust was good, but it didn't really taste like a taco pizza. I've had taco pizza that were packed with bold taco flavor, and this one was a little under seasoned for my taste. The meat was tender, though, and I ended up taking the leftovers home and adding a little extra seasoning. My daughter ordered the taco salad, which was good and served in a large crispy tortilla bowl. Like the pizza, it just didn't quite have that classic taco flavor we were expecting. The atmosphere is what really makes this place stand out. Despite Kensington's reputation, this pub is a hidden gem. Parking can be a little challenging since it's in a residential area, but if you're nearby, it's definitely worth stopping in. I'll absolutely be back to try more of the menu, especially since my daughter lives so close.

Those concerns were quickly put to rest. The couple behind us even asked to take a picture with Jennifer. This place is great. I think most of the action happens out back in "The Zoo," and it's an awesome outdoor space with something for everyone. Whether you're looking to grab a drink, hang out with friends, or just enjoy the atmosphere, Kensington Pub delivers. The cheesesteak is only $11 and comes with a pickle. You know I love that. Looking at the pictures, the cheesesteak may not have been the star of the Kensington Pub show, but it definitely held its own. The roll had a ton of flavor and was one of the highlights. The cheese was tucked underneath the meat, but it was perfectly melted and there was plenty of it. The onions could have used a little more time on the grill, but they still added good flavor. The meat was solid, and together it made for a very enjoyable cheesesteak. Kensington Pub gave us a fun atmosphere, a warm welcome for Jennifer, and a cheesesteak worth eating. That's a pretty good day in The Cheesesteak Life.
