This is hands-down my favorite pizza in the area, and their customer service just proved why. I asked for a small alteration on my order, and while they ended up making a mistake with it, I told them it was totally fine and I'd still take it -- no big deal. They went ahead and refunded me anyway, without me even asking. That kind of honesty and care is wonderful. The pizza itself is consistently delicious -- you can tell they actually care about what they're putting out. We get pizzas in the neighborhood on average once a week. It's been nearly 4 years since ordering for takeout from here the last time. I've been constantly reading the continued hype, I figured I'd give C&S another try. We ordered the chicken parm square. It's really dense, and deceiving filling from such a tiny pie -10" square, if I recall. My college-aged son asked as I walked in the door, "That's it? What are else are we going to eat? Did you know it was going to be that little?" Neither of us was able to finish the pie, and we saved the rest as the next day's leftovers. As for the pie itself, it was good enough but not outstanding. The crust was somewhat crispy, probably more chewy. The overall flavor of the pie, chicken pieces, and red sauce - fine, I guess. Nothing earth shattering. The price though, is higher than other equivalent neighborhood pizza shops, by quite a bit. I guess that's why it has been so long since the last takeout. The pizza is good enough, but we're not seeing the value, nor understand the recent hype. read more

Got the Uncle Gutt Circle pizza and was not too impressed. It had virtually zero crunch and I really wasn't too crazy about the onions. Good flavor for a pizza though so I would consider having them again. I'd probably try a square pizza though. read more

Holy cow! We stopped by here to pick up a pizza while we were bar hopping. Maybe it was the alcohol but oh man- this pizza was so freaking delicious! My mouth is watering as I am writing this review. We got the pepperoni pizza and it was so simple yet flavorful! The light cheese paired with the crunchy pepperoni and ribbons of basil were a match made in heaven. The crust was nice and crunchy and was not too floppy. I personally don't like traditional thin crust nor too dense but this was perfect in between both while maintaining the chewy texture. I even ate the crust which I don't normally eat. We did order online so I am not sure about wait time if you were to order at the window. WOW I think we found our favorite pizza spot in the city! Circles & Squares is literally a takeout-only hole in the wall kind of spot with two picnic benches outside for sitting & eating if you'd like to enjoy your pizza super hot and fresh. I also recommend ordering ahead of time (about 15 minutes ahead) so the pizza is ready to pick up and go when you arrive. We got the vodka square pizza and the white square pizza (both vegetarian) - both were absolutely delicious. The crust was nice and chewy, the pizza was doughy and saucy and the cheese was creamy and satisfying, with lots of flavor. Their ToastTab ordering site and Instagram usually has information about square special pizzas, but they don't always have vegetarian options so good to check regularly. Service was unfussy but reliable. I forgot to take photos because we inhaled our food - would take out from here again! read more

Different Cheesesteak #1227. I got a cheesesteak with fried onions. I enjoyed the last minute of my video. Looking at the pictures, a few things jump out at me. I was watching the video, waiting for me to say one thing, and then I said another. Nice place with very friendly people. The cheesesteak was very good. It deserves a better roll. This roll was bready and had a soft crust. A lot of cheese and very good melt. The cheese touched everything. I am happy to report that the cheese did NOT cover the meat flavor. Friendly young lady at order window. There is only outdoor seating at park benches or a stainless steel bar-top. It was 30F so I ate in my rental suv. My order was promised in 5 minutes but I ran an errand and gave them 10 minutes. It was ready when I returned. The cheesesteak was delicious. Heard about this place online and it delivered, I ordered the upside down pie, white Sicilian, wings, chicken cheese steak and cheese steak. As a native NYer, pizza runs in my blood. I take my pizza very seriously and C+S does not disappoint. It exudes hipster Brooklyn vibes with its no frills take out only option, which definitely helps keep the price inflation friendly, kudos to that. I opted for the uncle gutt which was pepperoni and fried onions under a layer of mozzarella and aged provolone cheese, tomato sauce scattered on top and finished with fresh oregano, grana and extra virgin olive oil. I anticipated a bit of flop due to the generous pour of evoo on top, but flavors were excellent which you can expect from the use of quality ingredients. A slightly thicker bottom crust would be nice though but I'm just nitpicking. I actually enjoyed it leftover better after it tightened up and held its shape better. The age provolone was a great touch adding a funky umami element that I always say, the funkier the cheese the better. Also tried the cheesesteak which was a solid contender but not my favorite in this city, but delicious nonetheless. Overall I'm glad I found a place that could kick the pizza craving when i'm missing NYC. It's well balanced and priced competitively in a time where eggs are almost unaffordable. I've only ever had the Squares here, which are delicious. I will say that I think that they're much better on days 2 & 3, assuming that you reheat them in the oven. Day 1, the pizza is a little on the oily side and the bottom isn't very crisp. Minor complaints, but nonetheless. By the second day, all of the excess oil has soaked off into the box (I recommend that you refrigerate in the box... not that I've ever met anyone who actually takes pizza out of the box and puts it into Tupperware. Feels a bit American psycho) and the oven crisps up the bottom perfectly. I've also gotten the Caesar salad, so I can pretend like it's a healthy meal. The dressing is aces. read more

Came here with 4 friends after hearing great things and we were not disappointed! We were pretty hungry so we ordered 5 pizzas, but ended up having about 4 slices leftover. We liked the cheese and buffalo chicken the best, but I don't think the buffalo chicken is offered all the time. The focaccia base for the square pie was nice and chewy. The sauce in the cheese pizza was fresh. Thought the white pie was a bit bland. They do accept card. Also they don't have a phone number to call, and I needed to reach them because we were arriving late to the restaurant and wanted to delay our order. I DM'ed them on Instagram and they responded in minutes and said they'd happily delay our order, so I could not speak more highly of their service. Finally got to try them. COVID was really hard for ordering here but it seems back to normal. Takeout only it seems they don't have dining space. Order by phone or I believe they use a delivery service. Takes 20-35mins for pizza. I had their round pizza with pepperoni and sausage. Overall this is a very good American style pizza. Up there with Angelo's as best in city for this style of pizza. I enjoyed the pepperoni more than their sausage. Would come again! read more

We use the One Bite app to find places with a score of 8 or higher and I'm so glad we picked this spot today. Placed an order online right at 4:00 and it was ready in 20 mins. My husband and I slammed down slices of a round and square right in the car. The owner (assume he was the owner) was running an order out to another customer and saw us and so politely tried to give us plates and napkins but we were already done! Thank you Both pizzas were so damn good. So much flavor, so fresh. I think I slightly liked the square more just because the sauce was a little garlicky .. and the crust omg. How it took me until this past Saturday to try Circles + Squares is beyond me, but I suppose it speaks to what a deep range of high-end pizza places Fishtown and its surrounding neighborhoods (Port Richmond & Kensington) can lay claim to these days that a place this good could have slid under my radar for so long. Thankfully, that's now a thing of the past and I can start making up for lost time. I've had three of their menu items - their fries, a cheesesteak with fried onions and pickled hot peppers, and their Cheese pizza in square-pie form. The fries were my kind of fries - flavorfully battered and crisp on the outside but ample and billowy within. The cheesesteak was served with Cooper sharp and on a quality seeded bun; it would have been excellent if I'd had it witout, but adding the fried onions and, particularly, the pickled peppers, was a good call, too. The heat level was perfect for it - not overbearing, but consistently present, contributing perfectly to the overall taste. But the pie was made the place exceptional and earned it that fifth star. The square pizza is basically everything you're nostalgic about from pizza hut pan pizzas, at least assuming you're of a certain age and participated in their book club to earn free pan personal pan pizzas al through childhood, but all grown up into an adult-pallet-friendly incarnation. The sauce stood out as a highlight, as did the perfectly crisped outer edges that lined the soft, raised center. It was easily one of the best pan/deep dish pizzas I've ever had, easily on par with the best I've had in Chicago (though I know this is more Detroit style, a city I have not as yet been to). As of this writing, C + S is a small, minimal operation - hours of operation are limited, the menu isn't huge by any means (though there's still a good few things I want to try), and they don't have drinks, so they send you to the corner store down the street. The employee who I assume was also one of the owners seemed to be reconsidering the drink situation the day I was there, as every person who came up to order or pick up while we waited for our stuff to come out asked about drinks. read more

My journey to find the best pizza in Philly continues. I only got a circle, planning to try a square next. This pizza had the best crust so far, crispiness is perfect when you hold the pizza up, does not flop over so it makes it easy to eat. Undercarriage and crust cooked perfectly with a slight char but no burnt taste. Cheese is flavorful and nicely flavored, no excess grease on the circle pie. Only thing is I like a little more tomato sauce on the pie but I am just nitpicking. I have no problems placing this pizza top 5 in the city so far. read more

Circles and Squares is my close second most favorite pizza in Philadelphia. They do circles and squares (Detroit style) well. I just don't like their red sauce base as much as Pizza Shackamaxon so that one takes the crown for me. Added bonus is their white pizza is amazingly creamy and garlicky. They have expanded to add other menu items. The buffalo wings are good! To be honest, I don't usually like Buffalo flavor. I think it's because it's usually Franks hot sauce which I think is kind of basic (don't flame me) and overly salty, but Circles and Squares uses Crystal hot sauce which is superior and more interesting. I think they must have a high butter mix ratio because I also think it's less salty which I appreciate. You either pay online (you can scan a code at the walkup) or pay in cash. If you order online, you get a thoughtful courtesy text when the food hits the oven so you can time it perfectly! I have eaten pizza my entire life, I love circle & squares take on pizza, they have circle and Detroit style, but it's the flavors they have so many unique options on their menu and everything is delicious, and their cheese steaks are criminally underrated in my opinion they compete with Angelos they are on that level!!!! We stumbled on this place when another nearby restaurant we were trying to go to was closed. We had no idea just how popular this place is or anything about their ordering system. I'm not sure if this is just how they operate during Covid or always but you will need to pre-order your pies on their site and pick them up because they have a limited amount of dough per day. Luckily for us they had extra dough that day and we were able to walk up and order. Service was friendly and so accommodating. We ordered a square white pie and a circle pie. Both were off the charts DELICIOUS!! Don't come unprepared like us. We got super lucky. We couldn't have been any happier with our pizzas! read more

They simply do not miss! We have now tried a few of their pizzas, both circle and square version, and we haven't found one we didn't like. Our favorites so far are the uncle Gus circle and the white garlic/ ricotta square. Aside from just pizza, they are slinging one of the best cheesesteaks in the city. Definitely the best in fishtown/ East Kensington. Make sure to grab a side of the pickled long hots if you're into that. I've always been more of a call and order person but ordering online is super easy. They even let you know when your pizza is going in the oven so you can start to head that way. Choose to be Square! I've got to say I wasn't expecting what I received. I'm not used to Detroit style pizza and the dough for my square was just a little thick and greasy. This isn't deep dish pizza with a hefty layer of toppings, this is a focaccia like base with a very thin layer of sauce and cheese on top. The edges of the square were the best. The dough was crispy and chewy at the same time. The sauce and mozzarella cheese had an alternate pattern, which I'm not sure I liked as there were some bites that were missing sauce. The sauce in particular was my favorite part of the pizza with a garlic & slightly bitter flavor. The Italian sausage add-on was of the mild variety and was a bit light and mostly missing to be honest. The staff acted like a family affair and was very friendly and accommodating. First off, the smell of the pizza shop is like a Pavlov's dog experiment. Once the smell hits your nose you immediately start drooling. It smells absolutely delicious. Ordered the circle White and the square cheese. I would recommend that combo and in those specific shapes. The white pizza has a stronger flavor and goes amazing with the thin crust. The cheese pizza square crust is perfectly balanced between chewy and crunch. The marina sauce was made with love, just try it. You'll understand all the TLC that went into it. This place also does a terrible job taking orders by phone so I am usually stuck ordering in person and then forced to wait around for my za because I live on the other side of town. Anyways I find myself driving out there on a regular basis to bring home a square pie topped with cheese. The white pie is ard, the red sauce makes the square pie. I've had the circle pie in the past but the square pie is where it is at. One square pie has six slices. I'm usually a 4 slice guy and so is my wife so we are usually hungry after we polish off our pie. I hate to love this place. I wish the pizza was terrible so I wouldn't have to hit the ATM up all the time and wait on site half an hour for pizza every time I craved their delicious square pie. read more

I finally, FINALLY made my way here after what seems like forever. We opted for the White circle pizza 16 inch $17 (evoo, garlic, ricotta, mozzarella, chili, pecorino) and 10 inch square Cheese pizza and added spinach and shitake ($22 with toppings). My current verdict is that the square pizza is a solid 5 stars. The crust and cheese is exactly how I like it - a bit browned and crusty cheese. The texture of the dough is perfection, delicious tomato sauce, all together for an amazing to die for pizza. I probably won't opt for a circle pizza again. Don't get me wrong, the white pizza was still a good pizza - but nowhere as good as the way the square made me feel. Despite all the delicious toppings wuch as ricotta, pecornio and garlic on the white pizza, it proved to be a little bland for me, personally. All in all, I would say it's worth the hype and go try a square pizza. Expect a 1 hour wait, so go to Memphis Taproom for a beer to pass the time. read more
