I have been to this location a few times but, my last visit was rather disappointing. My appointment time was for noon, Bebe leads me to a room for me to change. She gave me 5 minutes to do so. She came back into the room at 12:05 pm and began setting up to begin my massage. My massage was good but inconsistent. She massages one arm but, skipped the other arm. I also asked her to pay special attention to some areas but, she skipped those areas (back, neck, and arms). The whole massage finished at 12:48 pm. I spoke with the receptionist explaining the time difference and she said they have a buffer between clients. I returned to this spa in February of 2018 for a massage, also purchased on Groupon. As it turns out, the spa only honors one Groupon per customer. My massage with Bebe was fantastic as always, and I enjoyed the service. My only hang up this time, was the receptionist. Upon calling to schedule said massage, I made it clear to her that it was a Groupon I had purchased and she went ahead and scheduled me. After my service, the same receptionist informed me that I had previously used a voucher, and would not be able to use this one. Even though I had told her over the phone. She eventually said she would have the manager, Renata, call me back with a solution. Renata called me and explained the Groupon voucher situation, and honored it for me as I was not made aware. Renata was fantastic in customer interfacing and ensuring I was happy and with a fair outcome. I do enjoy this spa and would love to continue coming back. So this is my second time back for a massage and I just realize that i never wrote one before. Since my memory is horrible. I will only write about my massage today with Raven. On a side note, booking is a little frustration because they get booked quickly and i had a second part groupon so i had to call in. My second time here is in this hot a** summer with high humidity. I thought there would be AC but upon arrival, I got hit with the fan. I know, how trivial right? But its hot and you know you rather have that AC blast and not the fan. My wait time wasnt too bad, I did arrive early but since this is my second time, there wasnt any form for me to fill. I didnt meet raven until 1:10, when my appt is at 1:00 (time loss?) Raven got me into the room and asked if i had any areas to focus, to stay away and what not. Shes a bit soft spoken and I couldnt really hear her over the fan sound. I got ready and she came back. We converse for a bit but I was ready to just relax. She started off very light and I did tell her to go harder which she did and it was a good difference. I have upper body tensions, lots of knots and my shoulder blades tend to get very tired and achy and I work out frequently. I had doubts about her but I was surprised how well she took care of my blade and my back. When she did my traps, it was heavenly!! I wish she did the same strength on my legs but it was wonderful nonetheless. My few complaints were...the fan in the room that is louder than the tranquility music, it was distracting and I wish she used some type of oil instead of lotion (i think?), at certain points, I feel like she was just rubbing on my skin (not that it hurt) read more

I received a massage here as a gift and was excited to try it out; I booked an appointment for my birthday. Everyone was nice and the massage itself was good, but it was the least relaxing massage I've ever had. This is a terrible location for a massage place - my room was facing the street and at the corner of 60th and 3rd there is a LOT of horns/honking /traffic, all of which was heard loudly. I am relatively understanding of the traffic noise, after all this is NYC. However, my massage room was adjacent to the reception area, and for the last 10-15 minutes of my massage the receptionist was on a phone call and it was so loud it was as if she were in the same room. It was incredibly distracting and made it very hard to relax and enjoy the massage. I booked my first facial here threw Groupon. I got the three facial for $99 deal. Upon arrival I was greeted. I booked a 7pm slot but was able to make it by 6pm luckily they saw me within 5 minutes. The receptionist took my coat and the tech escorted me to the room. My facial was more about extraction as I normally have a lot of clogged pores. I have to say after a work week this is a great treat. I really felt catered to and relaxed. I definitely enjoyed my facial. However there are cons. The first one and possibly the most annoying was when the tech started to wash some pots and instruments, in the sink, in the room, while I'm trying to relax. The second is when I was gathering my things my purse wasn't how I left it which made me think maybe someone had sticky fingers. The third is when I'm checking out the receptionist asks for a tip. I was worried that she was grazing over knots and not digging in deep enough. But then I left. And my back is SO MUCH BETTER. I feel so much better!!! It was certainly a lighter touch than I am used to, but hey, if it works, it works! No need to be in pain!!! The receptionist was just...delightful. There's literally no other word for her, she is lovely. The whole place smells amazing. Another reviewer complained about noise, only once did I hear a car honk from outside. My first time visiting Dorit Baxter in their new location- I have visited their old space many times. The new joint is right on 60th. I was greeted warmly and offered water and to use the facilities. The reception is smaller than the old space but very clean. My massage therapist was pleasant and knowledgable and I was able to customize my massage. The deep tissue was the right amount of pressure but still very relaxing and rhythmic. My knots and tension in my neck were melted away and I feel much better. Overall a good experience. Came here for a Brazilian wax and it was quick and painless. Raven is highly experienced and so down to earth. She makes you feel at ease throughout the process where you don't even realize you're getting a wax. Face & Body uses organic hard wax. I've been to many places for a Brazilian wax and this is by far the best and the best price point. Let me start by saying that the massage by Raven was very good. That was not the issue I had with the spa. Upon entry the woman at the front desk was not welcoming, there is no lounge to relax in and nothing other than water and joly rancher candies offered. And actually they are not offered...if interested you have to ask. The spa is located above very noisy street traffic and every few minutes you hear a horn blowing. Shit show is probably more accurate. They're disorganized, confuse appointments (I made an appointment weeks in advance and they had scheduled another person at the same time), and are rude about Groupons-- they accused me of using a Groupon twice, when in fact, I bought a two-pack of deep tissue massages... shouldn't they know what they offer on Groupon? Or at least check with Groupon before making the customer feel like a criminal? Regarding the service, the first massage was nothing to write home about. It wasn't even remotely hard, like a deep tissue massage should be. I didn't feel any different after than I did before. The second massage was much better because I was assertive about what I wanted-- but I hate doing that because I feel like the masuse should ask your preferences before beginning. This hole in the wall was small, dark and dirty. We weren't offered tea or even water. We were rushed to the room with our coats on. My fiancé surprised me with a Swedish massage for my birthday! It's a very intimate place and it totally works. Everyone was very nice and the atmosphere really helped you relax. When my masseuse took me to my room I was surprised by how small it was, but that didn't really matter. The room smelled subtly of orange and I absolutely love that. The massage table was comfortable and the music was perfect. It was different from other spa music I've heard and I liked not listening to waves and natural sounds. Since this place is in New York I was surprised by how well the blocked out the noisy street. Only once did I hear a car horn and that was in between songs. The massage itself was spot on perfect. Had a facial after too many months had passed and as such needed a deep cleaning. Nicki excavated every blackhead from my nose, cheeks, chin and eye areas and, remarkably, without any pain at all. It was so relaxing, starting with massage, that I slipped into a light sleep--even while she was cleaning my pores. Best facial I have ever had and I was not at all surprised that Nicki was trained abroad, principally in France, where I have indulged myself at various spas, and still found the facial she gave me utterly superb. She applied a collagen mask at the end of the facial and at the risk of sounding immodest my face looks rejuvenated at my ancient age. Nicki, I reckon, is both an artist and a magician. I did not know what to expect as I purchased three pre paid massages through Groupon. I LOVED both of my massages (the third was a gift to my boyfriend). The staff are friendly and patient- finding a date that my boyfriend could enjoy his massage was tricky- he works on the ferry and gets his schedule about a week out. I really appreciated that the staff helped me get things set up nicely without feeling like I was a pest. Once there (easy to get to from the upper east side) I was so pleased to find a very clean and safe feeling space. Massage was good overall, however it was a little bit light to the touch. Even when I told Bebe she could go harder it was pretty light, and I'm usually someone who likes a light touch so I wasn't expecting crazy pressure. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I went there Friday night after reading the amazing reviews (suspect given how few they are and how they great all are). I still decided to buy a groupon and give them a try. I rarely write reviews as u can see in my profile but would love to stop anyone from getting their skin ruined here. I had an appt with Kimmie. First they messed up my appt time which I am okay with. I met Kimmie who looked at my skin, told me I had every issue under the sun, tried to sell me another 3 boosters. Then proceeded with the most horrific facial ever. She was aggressive, stressful and unprofessional. She kept talking non stop when all I was trying to do was relax. She was not gentle and when she was giving me a massage and I told her she could press harder, she laughed and said it was a "decorative massage". Are you serious? She then did the most painful extractions and whn I asked her to be gentle, she stormed out the room. I got another technician Nikki who was also just as bad, and they never added any additional time to my service for the 10 mins we lost or the booster that I added to my service. My skin broke out the next day (and my skin never breaks out!!) and it was the most stressful Friday night. This place is a sham. Save your money and go elsewhere. I have been coming to this spa for years since it was at another location. I visited last week and it changed a lot. First, my massage was not good at all. She applied zero pressure and all i heard was the traffic outside. When she was finished, she told me to put on a robe that at one time was white but was now very gray. It was also damp. Before my next service, i told the worker that my robe was wet and she pulled out another old robe from under the table and told me to put that on. Don't look at the area rugs, they look like they are 20 years old and never vacuumed. If you look at the section under the table it looks completely different from the area you can see. I broke out from the products they used during my facial. Very disappointed in the cleanliness of this spa!!!! Will never go back! read more

You are well, well taken care of at Dorit Baxter. I came to use a Travelzoo deal for a facial and massage. Upon arrival you're asked to do nothing except to simply relax. It's a small place, but you do feel like you're tucked away in a little sanctuary in the midst of midtown chaos. I received a combination massage and it was fantastic. My masseuse asked me constantly if the pressure was suitable and adjusted accordingly. She worked on knots that I didn't even know I had. For my facial I was so relaxed I actually fell asleep briefly. Upon check out they recommend based on your services rendered what products of theirs you should try out. The place itself was nice, although small. There was a fan going so that we kept cool. The receptionist was incredibly loud - I heard her throughout my treatment. She was nice enough, but not the person to put in a place where people are supposed to relax. My massage was only okay. I've a had a few in the city and others were better quality. The masseuse was professionally mannered, but needs to work on technique a bit. She also didn't have the strength to really do deep tissue massages. Redeemed a Groupon from my husband for a facial and booster. I was seen immediately upon walking in. It was calm and there was soothing music playing while in my session. I received a steam facial which was placed over my face. It was a little hard to breathe with because of the heat but wasn't too bad. I had blackheads removed, and received a facial too. It was relaxing and drifted off to sleep. I was suggested some products but not forced into purchasing anything.
