My son is autistic and has significant sensory sensitivities, yet Dr. Yu is consistently patient, understanding, and incredibly accommodating. He's always finding thoughtful ways to work around his needs and makes each appointment a positive and successful experience. Michelle is wonderful about scheduling and she always sets aside plenty of time for our appointments so my son never feels rushed or overwhelmed. We travel over two hours (sometimes more depending on L.A. traffic!) from North County San Diego just to see Dr. Yu, and it is absolutely worth it. I am truly one to dread medical appointments, but I found myself on a journey of getting my tongue-tie released and seeking treatment for my narrow airway. Though I can have a lot of anxiety with medical appointments, Dr. Yu and his team were so kind and warm and always helped me feel at ease. It's absolutely worth it to me to drive all the way from Long Beach for treatment. We are still working on my bite, but I had no complications with my Marpe installation. Excellent practice that understands the structure of the jaw and how it works. Make sure to get this type of exam before putting your child in braces. Expanding the jaw first means the time needed for braces is much less. The bulk of my daughter's treatment was less than a year, and she went from very crooked teeth to an amazing broad beautiful smile. Highly recommend. read more

Pricey but worth it. I had some unfortunate orthodontic experiences as a child, and also as an adult. As a teen, my problems were not considered to be a problem. And as an adult, those things kept getting worse. When I sough treatment, there solutions were sometimes questionable. Don't ever let them shave your teeth down to "make them fit." If they are shaving your teeth, then they haven't really aligned your teeth and are using a lazy shortcut. My issue was more complex than I initially thought. Most dentists and orthodontists do not have the training or the equipment to fix some problems. I guess it comes down to the basic philosophy that most orthodontists are taught to bring teeth in as opposed to spacing them out. Dr. Yu has custom expanders to make enough room inside your mouth so your tongue rests in the correct position. I didn't know it, but my teeth had narrowed over the years, and it wasn't just the obvious front teeth which were the problem. I felt like I never had enough room in my mouth. After 3 failed attempts to fix my problems with regularly trained orthodontists, I knew I had to find something else. This office was suggested to me, and once I read about what they did back when it was under Dr. Hang, I knew I needed their help to get my issues under control. read more

I had an amazing experience with Dr. Yu. I came for a consultation regarding bone loss and facial recession after wisdom teeth extraction. I went to several dental professionals to discuss this issue and was blown off and gaslighted. Dr. Yu, however, listened to all of my concerns and acknowledged the issue. He told me that although it is uncommon, facial changes from wisdom teeth extractions do happen. This is the first time a dental professional was honest with me about this issue and actually acknowledged my concerns. Dr. Yu also went over the X-rays and explained what was happening. He was very compassionate and listened to me and suggested the best course of action. I could tell that he cares about his patients and I appreciated that he did not try to push a treatment plan. He was genuinely trying to help. The staff is amazing too. I had a great experience with everyone. Kim and Cheryl were very professional, very helpful, very patient, and very pleasant. Had a great experience at Dr. Yu's office this past week. Went in for a consultation for Invisalign and Dr. Yu was both knowledgable and attentive in guiding me through the process. The office was very clean and modern and seemed to have all the latest tech including imaging machines. I was especially impressed when Dr. Yu personally reviewed my CT scan with me and was able to analyze my airway anatomy down to the minute detail. My daughter has been seeing Dr. Yu for 7 months now and we've never waited over 10 mins before being seen which is a big plus because we live over an hour away. EXCEPTIONAL!!! I have traveled with my family from SE Asia and now Europe during the past 4 years to see both Dr. Hang and Dr. Yu because of their extraordinary knowledge and expertise in the field of airway centered orthodontics, sleep apnea, mouth breathing and proper tongue positioning. Dr. Hang and Dr. Yu have successfully healed my daughter's sleep apnea (the narrow arches she once had are now beautifully broadened, there is plenty of space for her permanent teeth, no more gummy smile or crowded teeth, her tongue is to the palette and her lower jaw has grown forward). All of this healing and growth has (only) been possible because of the level of care and attention my daughter received.
