I have been waxing for over 10 years! I have seen many waxers and I have high standards. Basically I am a pain in the (fill in blank) when it comes to my eyebrows. Not that they are hard, I just keep my same shape and get them cleaned up. My standard service is a Brazilian and Brow wax. I have been seeing the same waxer for about 8 years but unfortunately for me, due to motherhood and Covid she has closed her shop. So once again I was on the hunt for a new waxer. Finding someone to due a Brazilian is pretty easy. They just have to remove everything, so it's not really hard to mess up. Finding someone to do your brows and do them well, that's an art. I found this shop via Groupon. They were offering a $28 dollar deal for a Brazilian and a $28 deal for a full face wax. I bought both. After reading reviews (as any good yelper does) I didn't see any "Red Flag" warnings. The biggest thing that stood out was there was not a lot of reviews, but for the most part everyone was happy with the services they received. RED FLAG!!!!! This is your warning.... I called the shop for an appointment and was surprised they could get me in within the hour. I arrived at the shop and was greeted by an older woman named Sindi. She was nice and we chatted some. The shop was not clean, but it was passable. She started with the Brazilian and it hurt, but I knew that it had been almost a year since I had been waxed and although trimmed there was more growth than usual. So a little pain was expected. Then she moved on to the face... RED FLAG! RED FLAG! RED FLAG! The whole process, lip, chin, cheeks, and brows, was painful. I have pretty fine, short hairs from years of being waxed so it should not have hurt as much as it did. It wasn't until I got home and looked in the mirror that I realized what had happened... She literally tore layers of skin off of my cheek, chin and eyelid. (Pictures attached) I knew that she was being rough, but I never in a million years would have thought this would have happened. I have had bad waxes, but this was by far the worst! Needless to say I will not be returning and I advise anyone who is reading this to take caution. The amount of wax that was left on my body was ridiculous. It took me an additional 45 minutes and the help of my man to remove it all. I even found wax on my feet... where she was nowhere near. It took me an additional 15 minutes to finish my eyebrows with tweezers as they were not cleaned up and I had to buy wax strips to finish the top of my butt which she missed completely. read more

I hate to do this. We bought 2 Groupons for a wax. Got to use 1 and then slyly I was placed in the chair after my bf & my face was threaded? Which after seeing the wax machine was ok to me... this was my bf first time getting a waxed and while she was very nice and her assistant was too- I honestly was not happy with the work in the end. We mentioned he had wax on his face and yes she tried to clean up but there is still residue of wax on his face and it's hard to get it off. We got 2 Groupons but she only took the 1. Refused to take the one my bf bought for me. Luckily we can trade that in for credits but when we tried to set up the apt she told us not to use Groupon even though we had found her via their site and bought the Groupons prior. I assuemed a wax business would be a little cleaner. She used the same dipstick the whole time did not change it, she used her bare hands as well. And the same wax strip to wax off his face. The strip isn't a big deal to me since like it's his own face but bc of the strip being the same he got some wax in his beard. I was VERY upset on my bfs behalf since he went out of his way to get us this appointment and it was his first time being ever waxed. She also had us hold our own faces while threading/waxing. Never had that before..... he was BURNED from the WAX these are BURN MARKS. Don't let all the good reviews fool you. Small hidden gem in the mid of downtown. Cindy does really good work and she gives the best facial .Even she listens to her customer and their needs. I highly recommend this facial experience. Cindy does an amazing job at helping consolidate which facial is best for your skin. She is very friendly and provides great service. Came in for micro dermabrasion but she recommended high frequency due to my skin type and it came out so much better than expected. Also did a full face thread, which was quick and painless. HORRIBLE experience. Do not go here. Walked in and told her I wanted a thread and tint, but as a blond, I wanted a very subtle eyebrow tint, close to the natural color. The threading went well, but for the tint, without shade matching (which I asked her to do and she ignored) she died my eyebrows essentially black. Realizing she messed up she proceeded to argue with me and had a bad vibe, saying I should have asked for a different color. I asked her if she could do anything to fix it and she essentially told me to wash my face. Then she made me pay in full for a horrible job done, and leaving me very unsatisfied. First time brow appointment, I asked for a thread and tint. Threading went well, shape was good. But then it took a turn for the worst. I specifically asked multiple times to keep the tint as close to my natural color (a light brownish blonde) as possible, and the women confirmed she heard me and assured me she was following my instructions. When she mixed the dye, I asked to see the color and expressed my worry that it would be too dark - she told me this was the natural brown color and that it would look how I wanted. Once she put it on it looked far to dark - calling the color BROWN would even be an exaggeration because it looks an ashy black (even darker than my friends brows who has black hair). When it came off I was quite upset and the women repeatedly told me it looked great and the color would fade if I thought it was too dark. She even told me if I had specified I wanted a blonde ish color (mind you, my original brows were BLONDE) she would have done a lighter color, which I found quite absurd given my instructions was to keep them the blonde-ish brown color they originay were. My brows are now close to jet black, and I am using drugstore dye remover to get rid of what she did. Would not recommend this store for any first timers or blondes because their employees do not listen to instructions. read more

Worst service ever !! I visited facial town and beauty salon for a facial and it was the worst experience I have ever had. For a diamond facial(for which they charged 55$) they just massaged scrub for 1-2 mins and then cream for 2-3 mins and then applied facepack, completing the whole facial in 15 mins.The staff was busy chatting and it made the experience even worse with all that noise in the background. It was nothing like the relaxed experience I was expecting and rather a very annoying one. Will not recommend anyone to visit this place !!! read more

After walking by the $8 eyebrow threading sign outside a dozen times, I finally decided to check the place out one day. I got there a little bit before 11AM, and realized that they didn`t open until 11. I waited until then, but no one showed up even at 11:10. So I decided to walk up and down Castro to kill time. When I came back, the lady had just opened the place. She asked if I wanted my eyebrows threaded, and I said yes. After putting her stuff away in the back, she got to work. I`m a bit surprised that others say it was nearly painless [there seems to be another Yelp page for this place] because while it was tolerable, my experience was far from "nearly painless." Anyhow, after she was done, she showed me my eyebrows in the mirror, and asked if it was okay, and since my glasses were on the counter, they did look fine to me. However, when I got home later, I realized that my left eyebrow was more angled than the right. Yes, that`s my fault, I should have asked for my glasses back first. But you would think that she would have seen it immediately. And during my entire visit, she didn`t say more than 10 things to me. 1. Are you here for eyebrow threading? 2. Okay, have a seat. 3. Hold your eyelid. 4. How do they look? 5. Did you want your lips done too? [Which was a little offensive.] 6. That`ll be $10. 7. Thank you. At no point, did she ask me how I wanted my eyebrows to look. Now, I know that $10 is a pretty good deal for eyebrow threading, and I try not to judge places to much on prices because I don`t know what their rent is. However, remember that there is a sign by the sidewalk on Castro, saying that it was $8. When you go inside, the board on the wall says $10. It`s so confusing. Reading other reviews, it seems like some people were charged $8, and some were charged $10. I gave her another $2 tip, because I figured that since the $10 was on the wall, that`s what it was. But it`s really deceiving. Also, there`s a sign that says you can get 10% off services if you show them your Yelp review. And I don`t trust places like that too much, because I feel like it`s a bribe. Yes, there are places that give you discounts for 5 star reviews, which is worse, but it would be awkward to show them a 1 or 2 star review and ask for a discount, so how many people would do that? read more
