I had two women work on my head and I was in and out for shoulder length goddess braids in 2.5 hours. I called about 6 shops in the area before booking. First & foremost, it was a great experience all the way. I went to Fadil to get goddess braids and I was anxious at first because it's really hard to find a good braiding salon due to the fact that not only does the quality of the hair and job matter, but the service, the people, and the vibes play a huge part of having a great experience. The salon is clean, and the stylists are amazing. They are multi-talented, professional, respectful, and most importantly, kind. My nervousness faded away as soon as I started making conversation, they made me feel comfortable and at peace. Shoutouts and special thanks to my girls Judith and Eunice who worked on and created this masterpiece. And thank you Anita for bringing light and joy into the salon. This is the second time I've worked with Judith and I have to say she is amazing. A lot of braiders will straight up tell me they can't braid if they have acrylic nails on, but many of the gorgeous ladies at Fadil do it with ease. They work very fast and are very precise simultaneously. The salon also sells hair, including synthetic and real human hair in multiple shades and colors, as well as bonnets, mousse, beads, etc. There is a great energy that the stylists create at the salon that feels like home. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE/ CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE/THE OWNER IS HORRIBLE. This what to expect if you do business with them: Long waits: They are never on time to open the shop, so you will be either sitting in your car or standing in front of the shop anywhere from an hour on up. Once you get in the shop: There will be more waiting since they like to over book and the braiders/stylist show up whenever they feel like it. So understand this could be an all day and all night event I have been aware of people leaving @ 1AM at times. They have no TIME MANAGMENT skills and they definitely do not care about your time. Customer Service: THERE IS NONE OF THIS IN THIS SHOP. I don't think they know or understand what customer service is, they have no concept of it, so don't expect it. They will talk trash about you in there native language and if you have hair issues they will clown you in their native language. So be prepared to be HUMILIATED. One of the worst things about this place is the OWNER. I have never seen a worst black women business owner and what makes it even more insulting is that she is an African black women business owner. She is definitely all bout the money and nothing else, you will not get ANY respect from her, she will talk bad about you, she will disrespect you, she will talk crazy to you (I don't think she is wrapped tooo tight (yes I said it), she will talk reckless to you. This lady is soo disrespectful she is full of sh** and she LIES like a rug. FINALLY The Fees. After they make you wait and treat you like garbage, they don't apologize or give you a discount for all the nonsense you had to deal with, nope, not at all, instead they change the prices you were originally told. To add insult to injury they charge you higher than what you were told anywhere from $10-$25 dollars more. If I could rate them a -0 I would. I love this place. My hair was finally long enough to braid and I was in desperate need of a good hair dresser who was there when ever i needed them. Fadil was the first shop I decided to try and i haven't stopped visiting since. They clearly be overbooking themselves and it can mess up your plans when they start your hair 2 hours later than expected. She was so distracted, she gave me the wrong hairstyle then it got sloppy towards the end because she was rushing.. they all had good customer service but the fact that the price kept changing even though I was given a set price after showing a picture, that was irritating. This was my first time going there and they didn't wash my hair when I specifically told them through text everything I wanted from style to how I want the parts . Didn't even ask me if I wanted a wash.They did my hair so tight that I think when I take this style out I wont have any edges. On the website it says 150 plus for a style so lets say you get faux locs that 150 and get your hair washed that's 20 so all together that's 170 now Let's add hair cost 10 a pack 3 packs used that's 200 now minus a wash that's 180 and I charged way over that and I don't think that fair at all. read more

I have been to this salon twice now but cannot in good faith recommend anyone else go here if you value your hair. It's a great place to get folliculitis and traction alopecia. The first time I got my hair braided here, the front was too tight but after I loosened it myself it was alright. The second time, oh my. I kept requesting looser braids, but the lady didn't really listen especially once she started rushing with the back of my head. I now have terrible folliculitis at the nape of my neck, and there is a spot on my scalp in the middle of my head that is burning with soreness because my hair has literally been torn out of my scalp. I really should have known better--none of the women at the salon have edges because they've torn them out with too-tight braiding. Additionally, like most black hair salons, the ladies here run horribly late. The first time I had to wait about an hour and a half before the lady started my hair. The second time, I arrived BEFORE opening time and still had to wait about a half hour before the lady got started, even though I'd been urged over text to arrive early. Such a level of unprofessional behavior is absolutely unacceptable. In short, don't go to this salon. Maybe there are braiding salons in Boston capable of professional behavior, punctuality, and good customer service, and I hope you find one, dear reader, because this one sure ain't it. Seriously, stay away from this salon if you like a having healthy scalp and intact edges. Now I'm going to go look up ways to treat hurt scalps and damaged edges. read more

This is the worst place I have ever had my hair braided. It all started with me calling and speaking to (who I believe is) the owner. I expressed to her what I wanted, to have my previous braids taken out, my hair washed, and knotless braids put in. Per the owner (over the phone), I was quoted a price for my hair washing and a price for my knotless braids. Allowing me to prepare for what I knew would be the cost of everything once I got to the salon. My overall braiding experience was fine. The two women that braided my hair did a fantastic job and I made sure to include a tip that reflected that. HOWEVER, the reason why I am giving 1 star (if I could, I would give the place a ZERO) is due to the complete and utter lack of respect the owner ( I am assuming) has for her clients. Her total lack of customer service is disgraceful for someone who owns a business. Not only was she incredibly rude to me in her tone and manner of talk. She completely humiliated me in front of everyone in the salon! I was quoted a price that I agreed to pay for knotless braids, and when it came time to pay I paid the price that I was initially told. However, after paying, the owner immediately chastises me and tells me that I didn't pay the correct amount and that what I asked for was box braids. I politely told her that she was incorrect and that I stated over the phone knotless braids (which I confirmed with the braiders before they began to work). STRIKE 1! Strike 2 came when the owner then proceeded to tell me that I needed to pay for the hair (which of course she failed to mention over the phone). Strike 3 began when she proceeded to laugh at me while trying to tell me what I SUPPOSEDLY asked for. In the business of customer service, respect for your clients is of the utmost importance. The fact that this woman try to tell me what I wanted done as if I have no clue of what I asked for is insulting. Then to add insult to injury, you proceed to laugh in my face and tell me that I didn't pay the full amount, as if I am some kind of idiot or thief who was trying to steal from her. The overall experience was disgusting and I will never ever return to this woman's salon. Fadil has no respect for the very people who are allowing her to keep the lights on and pay her bills. The problem with her and many other salons like it, is that there is no price transparency. This seems to be a common issue with African hair salons. They quote you one thing and then charge you something else. If you are going to call yourself a business owner please learn to conduct yourself accordingly. Having a good sense of customer service is not a huge ask, especially when its customers who help you livelihood. As a fellow African I am disappointed and disgusted. This was my hair braiding shop when I lived in Cambridge. Bebe, my braider, always had my hair neat (and tight! Good Lawd!). Whenever she did my large, waist-length, Senegalese twists I would get compliments for months (they lasted 8 weeks). In fact, some people thought my twists were my natural hair. With such good work comes hella attitude. To say the least, don't expect stylists in here to be like your neighborly cheery, chatty Trader Joe's cashier. I was a new customer I called for closing time and was told I can walk-in also. So two hours later I walked in had a few minute wait not long at all. I had 2 Braiders which I didn't not mind I got medium size single braids down to my bra strap. I paid a total of 165 that was for braiding and the hair I purchased from them o appreciated it only took 2.5 hours the ladies did a good job and 1.5 months later still looks fresh. One of my braiders her name I believe was Mimi bc they kept talking saying her band not sure of the other ladies name forgive but I would recommend them and I will be back. read more

I've been getting my hair braided at Fadil for a few years now. They've moved from Cambridge to a new location in Somerville since I started going to them; the new location is conveniently located just a few minutes' walk from Sullivan Square station, where there's cheap parking lots or public transit options. The salon itself is clean and bright, making it a pleasant place to sit for a few hours while I get my hair done. Usually I get box braids done by Anita; she's quick and her work is usually neat without being so tight that it pulls on my edges. I like to mix it up, though, so I'm always looking up new styles or bringing in different colors of hair. Most recently, I decided to try a different style (spring twists), so Kadidja did my hair. I LOVE these twists -- they're so bouncy and fun, and they might become my new go-to. I'll definitely continue to patronize Fadil's as long as I live in the area. They're reasonably priced, can usually fit me in for an appointment whenever I need, and get me in and out in a reasonable amount of time. And they also offer a student discount! read more

She said that they would last longer if they were tighter but said that she would make them loose. After she was done my head was in soo much much pain after 4 days I had to remove them. BEWARE THIS PLACE IS FULL OF SCAM ARTISTS! If I could give them no stars I would! This was definitely the worst hair braiding experience I have ever had. I called earlier in the day to make an appointment for my 9 yo daughter and was quoted a price of $40 for simple corn rows (no extensions of course for a 9yo) plus $10 for a wash. However, when we got there I wanted to confirm how much it would be since I wanted them to put in beads as well. I had read the previous reviews regarding their shady pricing, so I thought it was necessary to do this. It took so long for them to give me a price of $60 for everything. This is much more than I have paid for a similar style at other places, but we were in a crunch given she was scheduled to attend an event the next day. Once we finally finished waiting for them to give us a price, a woman started with the wash and comb out. OMG, just as a previous reviewer mentioned, they take no care to moisturize and do appropriate de tangling that will preserve the hair. I had to literally get out of my seat and walk the braider through the appropriate way to de tangle AA hair. Otherwise, she would have caused my daughter a lot of discomfort and unnecessary hair shedding. I see why they push the use of extensions so much at this shop because they attempt to pul out all of their clients natural hair during the braiding process. There were so many signs that this would not be a good experience, but desperation will make you do unwise things. My next area of complaint is how long the service took. We arrived at the shop around 3:40 and didn't leave until 8:15!! Again my daughter only got simple corn rows with no extensions!! However, we obviously got the worst and slowest braider in the shop. It took her so long to finish the style that the other braiders left before she was done. As such, we were the only people left in the shop ( the braider, my daughter and me). Once she finally finished, I wasn't pleased with her work. She put the beads in using a technique I have never seen before that was not neat and had hair sticking out the ends. I handed her the agreed upon $60 ( I wasn't going to tip her for poor quality work that took double the time it should have). I couldn't believe it when she tries to hand it back to me because she complains that the total is $70 not $60. According to her it was $60 for braiding and $10 for the wash. Of course, I refused to pay her anymore since earlier the shop owner, after almost 15 minutes, determined that it would be $60 for EVERYTHING! Don't downplay the other Yelp reviews like I did. Steer clear of this shop unless you want a poor quality job! The people in this shop are scam artists, so beware. read more

They just moved to Somerville. First time ever being there in general. i made my appointment with Mimi, but Mimi was late so some other girl started to do my hair. Then Mimi came and took over. I showed her the style i wanted - two feed in braids. But her overconfident a** glanced at the pic once and said she got it but she didn't because my hair is completely ugly and not what i wanted. The whole time Mimi was complaining about my natural thick hair, the owner was complaining about how much edge control i would require and wanted to charge an extra $5, and that my hair has too much oil. All of this in English and french.. in front of other clients. What a warm welcoming. The owner and the first girl were talking crap about me in French and i let it be known that i understood and how quickly their attitudes switched up. read more

I came here last month to have crochet braids done. I do not remember the young pregnant girl who started my head and did most of it but the owner did some of my hair as well. I did ask that they not braid my hair too tight and they obliged. I was charged $120.00. I believe that is about the same I would have paid had I gone elsewhere to have the same style done. I received compliments on my hair the whole time I had them in. I was very happy with the outcome. I'll be going back next month to have my hair done here again. read more

I don't want to give this place any stars because they don't deserve any.Sadly to post a review I have to give one. Let me be completely honest they have horrible attitudes and even worse skills when it comes to Senegalese twsist. I called early today to go as a walkin. I made it there and then was told i have to wait four hours no one can do the twist now. She called other ladies that all said they were too busy. Finally when she did do my hair her twist were sloppy and not the size I wanted. Prior to her completing one I asked to see it half way to eyeball if that was the right size. It wasn't and I told her but she wanted to continue twisting to the end as if that would make a difference. She had to take it out because like I stated before it wasn't the size I want but she did it with much attitude and sucking of the teeth. At one point she swung the braid at me for me to see it in a rude way! Called her out on this rude unprofessional behavior and she insisted she didn't know what I was talking about. Someone else urged her to apologize and I reminded myself that I didn't want to go to jail over braids. She suggested she finish braiding a few more. I bit my tongue and decided to let her finish the other three. After I asked for a mirror and it looked like an amateur did my hair. The parts were too big for the twist size and my hair was sticking out of the twist for crying out loud. I showed her and she said she can't cover my hair. Really? A waste of f#!@?ing time. My experience at this braiding salon was completely unexpected from what I thought it would be. Not only were the braiders very nice and sociable with me but they did an excellent job doing my hair. I got micro-braids done in just under 5 hours which took me completely by surprise. Although the parking situation was awful the ladies were understanding and didn't get upset when I showed up late for my appoinment. I chose this place for convenience because I'm leaving for vacation soon. I was the first client of the day it seemed. I showed my stylist how I wanted my hair, a hairfeed I believe it's called? Not sure, but I needed 5 or 6 cornrows with smaller ones between. She said ok. I reminded her I needed a wash. The other woman washed my hair. She had no care with washing my natural AA hair. She tangled it over and over again. Then quickly rushed a wide comb through it to detangle. Then, when it came to dry, she had no clue here and pulled trough he top without any parting or splitting. I was so scared for my hair... even though I brought my own hair, she told me it wasn't good enough and convinced me to buy hers. I felt it wasn't necessary, but they looked starving, so I agreed. She pulled the hair out and cut it and tangled it and brushed it and tangled it. They have no care with handling any sort of hair... strays were flying around everywhere.. and I was thinking she'd want me to buy another pack... so then she starts braiding.. and I notice this young adult woman is next to me. She works there, not a client. Has her feet up on the counter and feet are grazing my hair. I ask her, "could you please remove your feet from my hair?" The girl gets an attitude and takes them down. My stylist apologizes. How could that of gone unnoticed? And why would she think it's ok to put her dirty feet on my stuff??? The woman continues to braid my hair.. and she's like 60% through. I'm noticing the braids are super lobsidded. And I honestly, don't want to sit through all the pain again, but I need my hair to look good. So I tell her the braids are not even and suggest for her to do 2 over. TWO! not the entire head.. she gets upset and says she's not doing it over and begins pulling out all of my braids. I help her. It wasn't like I yelled at her, they were crooked. Very crooked. She didn't measure it right, not my fault. She's supposed to be a professsional. Hair came out really nice however.. I will NOT be going back to this place. I am transitioning sister who is trying to find protective styles to keep my hair healthy as possible. Lady used a blow dryer without using HEAT protection spray on my hair. If anybody knows about natural black hair you are not suppose to use excessive heat on your hair especially a damn blow drier. She quoted me a price of 180 on the phone then when I got to the shop charged me 190. Talking about 10 dollars for the hair. I don't think I will go back . Not friendly at all rude customer service. Appointment was at a certain time waited a damn hour before I was seen. If you come here to get your hair braided done or twisted don't expect any smiley faces. Loves ripping out your hair with a fine tooth comb and blow drying with no heat protection. I should've asked to see her beautician license...really don't believe any of them there have one. read more
