He's very proud of the dough used for the giant baked char siu bao. I got har gow, shiu mai, and rice rolls. The don tot were possibly the best I've had--the crust was really good. There are not many Asian markets in Marin County, but this is probably the best one of the limited amount. They have a pretty good selection of canned and dry foods, some vegetables, and a little bit of frozen and refrigerated foods. If you don't want to make the drive across the bridge this is the place to come. I think price wise it's OK but things always seem to be a little bit more expensive here in Marin County maybe because the people are willing to pay that price read more

Small Asian markets can be run down, over full and dingy. Not this one. And the owners are nice and helpful. Produce and fish are fresh. They pack so much into this little store it's surprising. While they don't have everything, they have a lot. Plus they also sell hot water pots and rice cookers! Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean, probably Taiwanese (I haven't looked specifically) and more are represented. The minimal dim sum offered has been nice though a little greasy. It was great to find fresh and frozen curry leaves, at least 5 types of dim sum wrappers, organic miso. If you ever shop at this store, please make sure to check the total amount of your entire purchase before paying or before leaving the store. Let me just cut to the chase and get to the bottom line. This is a dishonest business. Today when I got home, I tallied up my purchase and realized that I was overcharged $5.00. It isn't a big deal of an amount but it is the principle of the thing. I also found out that a few of my acquaintances had the same experience with this store. This wasn't the first time this happened to me. There was a time a few months ago when I was overcharged $3.50. When I confronted the owner, he said the extra charge was because I paid with a credit card. But I didn't because I paid with a debit card. And even if I did pay with a credit card, why would I be charged an extra $3.50 fot doing so? Oh, guess what? At that time I was confronting him, there was also another customer questioning him about the same issue. Anyway, I stopped shopping there for a few months and today, I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. Well, he did it again even when I paid with cash. The previous owners of this store got in trouble for the same wrongdoing. They also overcharged me in the past. They had since sold the business to the current owner who is doing the same dishonest practice. Perhaps, they are related. Absolutely disgusting and unacceptable! read more

This market tucked away adjacent to the Whole Foods parking lot is a hidden gem! Not only do they always have whatever ingredients I need that cannot be found at any other local markets, they also have beautiful organic produce. The store is clean, well lit and has plenty of parking. The owner is very kind and friendly. Since this is the only asian market in Marin County, aptly and precisely named... Asian Market, I have to give it 5 stars. Maybe anywhere else, it would be 4... Of course this isn't entirely true, as there is a new Japanese market not far from here. I went there on the same day, and it was meh. This one though, Asian Market, was pretty astonishing. The word curated is usually relegated to hipster stores now adays, but dare I say it.... this is a very well curated market. Limited space and yet they have every essential from each Asian cuisine. From Thai fish sauce to Korean Gochujang, they packed all the essentials into a convenient store sized space. They've got Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Korean, Japanese, Filipino and even some Indian (they have paneer!) I was thoroughly impressed. In my trip, I picked up Knorr Chicken bouillon (secret ingredient to all Chinese dishes), Vietnamese rice wrappers, Thai Red Curry paste and coconut milk - that Thai brand that my mom always uses for her curries. Obviously, you don't have the choice of 50 brands of sesame oil that you'd have at an H-mart. But they have it, and for a decent price too. And so for this, I toast you... Asian Market. An incomplete Asian market for Chinese ingredients. Disappointed that they are missing some standard items for making dim sum. I simply wanted a simple can of red bean paste for making fried sesame balls. All they had were cans of mashed red beans. Being Chinese and raised with homemade Chinese Cantonese cooking since I was a kid, it was disconcerting to get lectured by the cashier to improvise and puree the beans in a blender. The store must have changed ownership, because they don't stock the typical things I used to come here for. Chinese are picky about their favorite brands, and the store has switched to some off brands I don't recognize so I don't know how my recipes will turn out. Could be a supply chain issue too coinciding with the Lunar New Year demand for goods. read more

I have been a frequent shopper here as long as I've been living in Marin. It is the Asian Market of choice. However, while the new owners are super friendly and helpful, they made some significant changes I miss. The previous owners went to DF every morning and brought back the BEST baked BBQ pork buns there are and if I wanted a roast duck or roast pork belly, all I had to do was call them the day before. I would order the duck, pork and two dozen or more BBQ pork buns for my office staff and myself of course! Now, the BBQ pork buns are only mediocre and they no longer offer the special order service. As far as ingredients I need, generally they have it on a regular basis. The meat section can be fresher as well. read more

I was able to get everything on my shopping list including kombu for soup, two kinds of fresh Asian greens, a few new green teas, Korean style pickled daikon radish, shiso leaves for sushi, and a variety of sauces, snacks, and candy. The owners of the store were very helpful, they often carried multiple brands of products (in this case three brands of soft tofu) and they took the time to recommend what would be the best brand for the recipe I was planning to use it for. I guess I shouldn't complain as having a small Asian market is better than none. The shop is very small (smaller than a 7-11) and it does have all of the basic asian items you need such as different sauces, rice, mochi flour, etc. There is also a really small refrigerator section which has soy milk, fresh noodles and other cold goods. The shop however is super small and cramped. They don't really limit the number of people in there so it's not really COVID safe. There is also a $10 credit card limit which kinda sucks. Overall, this place has what you need. The items are a bit more expensive than going to asian markets in San Francisco or Oakland but it's better than nothing. read more

However if you need any advice on the products the new owner "pretends" to know what he is taking about, but he has little knowledge of the products he sells or how to cook with them. They also have everything for spring rolls, so it's a one stop shop and convincingly located right across from whole food for the fresh ingredients (hiding behind peets). There is no other market that has as much Asian products as this place in Marin County. I was happy to find some Hawaiian and Filipino products here, especially frozen lumpia. They do bring in Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches, fried sesame balls, and steamed mixed filling buns (which I immensely enjoyed on my drive home). I filled my basket with Haupia pudding powder mixes, milk tea mixes, tapioca pearls, bottled sauces, tofu, bottled sweet Coconut Sport to make dessert, my favorite sweet soy sauce, and some frozen goodies. Good place for one or two items you need right away and don't have time to go to SF. They have a special tax on the stupid, I.e. 3% additional charge for using a credit card. It's illegal in California to charge for using a credit card and could be reported to the state. It's legal to give a discount for using cash. Their freezer section has a smell that is a turn off from buying anything frozen. They sell almost exclusively Lee Kum Kee brand, which doesn't technically have MSG but has the second generation of 2 types of flavor enhancers. read more

Expected to pay a little more under the previous owners, which was ok. In October 2020, I bought a bottle of Mae Ploy sweet chili sauce 12 oz. for $1.99. Now the new owners are charging $3.99. When I asked the new owner about this, he said "you'll never find it for $1.99". I just found Mae Ploy sweet chili sauce, 32 oz. at the San Rafael Grocery Outlet for $4.59.
