The customer service was outstanding beyond measure. We never saw our cups empty and at the end of our meal when we were selecting desserts, they packaged our leftovers. When going, please know that Fairfax means parking is a challenge and Sorella is doubling down on that! Also, it's in the heart of traffic craziness. It offers outside seating. indoor dining, and take out. Everyone has to enter through the same narrow entrance and jam up by the cash register. Take out, which should be the least labor intensive meal for them, is treated as the bane of their existence. Those waiting for pickup have to jump out of the way of wait staff. When I presented my credit card to pay for the sack of food, the woman who was running the register told me I made a mistake when I had done nothing. She presented the wrong screen and I paid the bill and tried to add a tip. She gave me a look! She reset the screen and asked me to do it again "correctly". I still added the tip but I was not satisfied with anything. I'll go back because the food is good. But, not on Fridays, even if very early. And always with a person to watch the car when I double park, like so many others do. It's a testament to how delicious the food is that I and hoards of others put up with the front desk staff to get great takeout. read more

This was our second time coming through Fairfax visiting friends, and we had to stop back at our favorite place Sorella Cafe. It reminds us of one of those old hometown Italian restaurants where everything feels authentic, welcoming, and comfortable. The food and service were amazing from start to finish. Heather was a fantastic waitress and took the time to walk us through the menu and explain everything. We originally stopped in for drinks and appetizers, but once again it turned into one of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time. A special shoutout to Soyara, the owner, who came by our table and treated us to tiramisu for dessert. Honestly, it was probably the best tiramisu I've ever had. So I had a good friend of mine take me to Sorella Café today kind of a birthday dinner. He had been there many times it was my first time. I've driven by many times over the years but never stopped in. I wish I had lol. They have a very nice outdoor area and an indoor area.. my friend raved about the lasagna he said all the food is delicious, but especially the lasagna at first I was like I'll have the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. It's like you gotta try the lasagna. Trust me. I resisted for a little while, but he kept encouraging me trust me. It's the best lasagna you'll probably ever eat anyhow finally I said OK and I went with the lasagna. It's a healthy large portion and he was correct it's the best lasagna I've ever had in my life came out in a nice oval shaped dish, hot out of the oven the ingredients, the placement, the portions, the sauce cheeses everything was just the best... over eight but hey it's Italian lol but I didn't want to stop eating, but I knew I had to or else they were gonna have to get a wheelbarrow and push me out the door Now, when we go to eat at a restaurant, the food is important but equally important if not even more is the service our server Astry.. It was really impressive when she greeted us and this place was slammed busy on a Saturday night 6 PM. She was so genuinely friendly and they were super busy, but she still managed to take the time to connect with us as her table as her customers, she took her appetizer order my friend ordered a salad. I asked if they heat the sourdough sliced bread per request and they do and it's much better heated in the oven versus room temperature. Just want to throw that in there and she's the one that facilitated that and I wasn't ready. The first time she asked if we knew if we were ready to order and she was like no problem. Take your time I'll come back. She came back and add an appropriate amount of time. We had had a few questions about a few items and she was just the nicest and most patient. I mean she really put the service in Customer Service and she didn't have to try. It's just she's really nice and she's taking care of her customers and I recognized it and when she left after taking our order, I told my friend Brian I said man she's amazing. She's the nicest I try to leave her live a life of gratitude. I just appreciated her efforts cause she didn't have to be that awesome but she is and she was. Anyways, our food came out and OMG to the 10thdegree my friend was not wrong. It's the best lasagna I've ever had. I think I repeated that earlier, but that's how good it no not good that's how phenomenal it is anyways Astri checked in with us a few more times. I only ate about a third of the lasagna of course right now. I'm also going on calorie deficit and working out for the last month very committed to getting superfit again like I used to be anyways in closing. I think Astri and expressed to her my gratitude and I wanted to recognize her her awesomeness and she was really appreciative and but she just took great care of our table I hope Sorella Café gives her a raise or at least acknowledges her to the staff into her individually. There are a lot of hard-working individuals bustling about taking care of customers outside inside being a great team. They had a music outside, but we ate inside. It was a little cooler.. Anyways, do yourself a favoring go to this place and eat my friend said that his dad loved the seafood dishes and they're all super Duper awesome anyways had to share about the restaurant and service. Last Saturday I decided to take a little trip to Fairfax just to try Sorella caffe . The Ambiance is good , people appear to enjoy the place with their families and friends. They have the side seating with the bar in the main dining room as well the front outside seating. The place is kids friendly . For a first time customer, I didn't really know how things worked to be seated. There's a guest book a a little table outside apparently to put your name for a request to be accommodated with a table . In my opinion it's best to assign someone when time permits to greet and talk to people. I ended up by having a table outside which is fine . The service is fast and reasonable. I had the fried calamari , by which it was very good tender , cut and seasoned perfectly, I tried the spinach ravioli, it was good. They have different flavored raviolis as well . Presentation of dishes is a thing to consider. per my observation, I have noticed some of the dishes have excessive sauces , it's best to avoid dressing the pastas and other dishes with too much sauce that can overwhelm the plates. They had music playing outside by a group. The parking can be challenging. It's best to find a parking within one or two blocks and enjoy the nice walk , the nature is beautiful around the restaurant. read more

Holy Happy Hour! Sorella is a cozy Italian restaurant tucked back from the main street in Fairfax. There's street parking and several parking lots in the area to choose from. There's a big banner out front announcing happy hour every day. We were there for some holiday shopping and thought we could grab some snacks. We walked in around 5 pm and the tables were mostly full. We were given a table immediately. All beer is $5 (no draft), bites are $10, and a few $8 wine by the glass. We ordered and the food came out hot and fast. Kudos to the kitchen for keeping up on a busy Saturday. Most were ordering from the main menu. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked delicious. Food: all from the happy hour menu. *gnocchi was fluffy and a decent portion. *calamari was crisp and loved the marinara it came with. *capese had three thick slices of tomato blanketed with a pillow of mozzarella and basil tucked in for the course. Everything was dressed with balsamic and olive oil. *crab cake was stellar and is not to be missed. It was crispy outside and smooth inside with perfectly cut red onions distributed in each bite. A bright fresh mango salsa topped the cake for a sweet kiss. Yeah, the food is great and I'll be back for dinner. This is a family friendly spot and if you're a picky eater, they will make your food the way you want to eat it. I love the vibe and care shown to everyone. Chef's kiss! I had an I had an amazing experience here! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is super cozy and traditional. We started with a shared Caesar salad, which was absolutely delicious. For my main, I had the eggplant Parmesan, and it was phenomenal! They even bring out a large bowl of Parmesan to top off your dish. At the end, they surprised us with gummy bears and animal crackers, which was such a fun touch. As a bonus, they also brought us fried polenta on the house - so tasty! Super kid friendly, great happy hour. They don't take reservations, but dinner time is pretty fast as kitchen works fast and food and drink comes out promptly. Been here a few times before as it's my MILs favorite for celebrations. Went early to beat the dinner rush as they do not take reservations. We were seated by the fireplace so it was cozy like someone's dining room. We are always immediately greeted and everyone who works here seems to enjoy their job. Food is delicious. Always. We were recommended this place by a friend because we headed to Fairfax to see a band at Mac's. Village Sake had an hour and a half wait. The wait time for us was thirty minutes, but we landed an outdoor table with heat lamps in five minutes. Yay! When we were seated, I felt like I was at an outdoor party. We were checked on and taken care of right away. It was a converted parking lot and felt fun on picnic tables. They have a super menu with so many choices! They honestly cater to all types of difficult - vegan, vegetarian, gf, dairy free, meat loving, pasta addiction.....they have a nice drinks menu,too. I had the lentil curry soup bowl. Vegan. Delicious and so fall-like. We shared an appetizer. I think it was calamari, but sorry to say not memorable and I forgot. He had the chicken piccata with artichokes. He loved it. It was different with the added touch of artichokes. The check came and they gave us a bag of animal cookies and a little container of gummy bears. Cute touch to go in the car glove box in case of snack emergency. The inside looks cozy and there's lots of tables. There's even a standing fireplace. I was struggling to decide where to go for a nice casual dinner with colleges, that had the right menu and vibes, and luckily a local cafe owner recommended Sorella Caffe! It was right on the mark! Boisterous, busy, and friendly from the minute you walk in - we knew we were in the right place. We signed in for a table of 4 and waited a bit, even being offered a complimentary glass of wine or water to help pass the time. Then we were seated at a perfect round table off to the side, with views of the two cozy fireplaces, and delicious bread with butter. We shared a mista and a ceaser salad, 3 pastas from the specials menu, and a butternut squash ravioli. All of them were exceptionally delicious and we finished every last bite. I've been looking to try this place after hearing my friends rave about it, and I was not disappointed! The ambiance is very inviting, with many interesting pieces of artwork around the restaurant and even designed onto some tables. Our server was very nice and our food came out fast and warm! I ordered the Ragu Alla Bolognese and also tried the Porcini and Truffle Ravioli, both which were really good. I also liked how big the portions were, as they were very reasonable for the price! I used to really love this place, but this last visit made me feel like I got bamboozled. Food is good, but upcharges added to my check will not be bringing me back any time soon - the "restaurant fee" of 3.5% is automatically added assuming the guest will pay with a credit card. I found this out by asking about it, but was never asked beforehand if I would like to pay with cash. I find that ridiculous, as most transactions are with credit accounts, and 3.5% is the absolute upper limit that credit card companies charge in transaction fees. Feels like a rip off... Also, don't order the Italian sausages unless you want to get a product that tastes like a breakfast sausage - thumbs way down. read more

We arrived early tonite. Nice quiet outdoor seating. Started with wine. Enjoyed the bread and butter. Then split the crab cake appetizer. It was fine. Could've been warmer but acceptable. I then ordered pasta primavera and husband ordered the clam and pasta. We were enjoying our wine and within six minutes both meals were served. I mean seriously how could this be cooked so quickly? It looked pretty. My primavera had several veges but it the pasta wasn't cooked and was extremely al dente. The veges were the same. Mine sat on plate and softened slowly but my husbands clams were chewy and not cooked. We did complain to our server and she said there would be a small adjustment on our tab. They did deduct $10 in the end. We live a few blocks from this place and REALLY want to patronize and enjoy it but tonite was a disappointment. It's not the first time. What a gem of a place. It's like stepping into your grandmothers kitchen, only she's invited the entire neighborhood to come for dinner, everyone has requested their favorite food and grandma says yes to everyone. This means it's loud and bustling but the energy is exciting and fun! The sisters that run Sorella work hard and know how to run a restaurant efficiently. Reservations recommended and arrive early as parking is tricky. The menu is enormous and it was so difficult to choose what to order. I settled on the chicken piccata, husband got the Marsala, grandma had the carbonara and the kids each went for the bolognese. Our drinks came out quick and food was even quicker. Service overall was great even though it was a busy Saturday night. Our server made sure to keep our drinks full which doesn't always happen. I wish I could visit this place every week, if you're lucky enough to live in Marin, I think it's well worth the drive to Fairfax for authentic homemade Italian recipes in a lively atmosphere. read more
