Amazing place the staff is Great they take such Good care of my Pup !! I'm so Grateful for the care they provide!

I used to love this vet until they butchered my dog for no reason. The reason I was given was that the vet "couldn't remember which leg the bump was on, so she removed bumps from his front two legs", that weren't there and weren't bothering him. When I took him for his dental appointment and bump removal, I showed the tech the bump on his back left foot (that was stained from him licking at it and that the vet supposedly looked at when he was there a couple weeks before.) They also showed me a broken tooth at the visit a couple weeks before, which was the determining factor for me scheduling the procedure. When I dropped him off I was told the doctor would call me when she was done. Not only did NO ONE call me, but I called them to ask if he was done at 5:15pm to find out, "Oh he's been done, no one called you?" So, I rush to go pick him up and find out not only did they not remove the small bump they were supposed to, but that instead he has staples and chunks of both is front legs taken out. WHAT did they do to my baby boy? They were trying to close and rushed me out the door with him without giving me any of the medications and when I went back to the door to get them, they had already locked the door and I had to bang to get them to open it back up and they questioned me, trying to convince me they had given me his meds.. Fiinally, they gave me his meds and I left. (BTW they shorted him on the meds they gave him, they did not last as long as they said they would and he ran out.) I was told Dr. Sara White would call me that Monday, SHE NEVER HAS CALLED ME. Clearly I don't trust her to touch my boys again and I emailed and requested their records. The records they sent weren't the right records for each dog and again they tried to convince me they were. Finally, I get the records, I still have not received the xrays I paid for the day of the surgery and have requested SEVERAL times, but even their office notes are wrong! At the visit they showed me his broken tooth (the note does not reflect this) and determined he needed dental cleaning and the bump removal, says the bump was on the right hind leg, (it's always been the left back foot) it also said he had light tartar (They showed me different) and no broken or fractured teeth (yeah they showed me that too.) This place used to be nice, but since I've seen Sara White my trust in this clinic is gone. I noticed even when we were in visits with her, she was always dismissive to anything I said. She would ask a question and then just dismiss the answer. I thought maybe I was being sensitive, but now that I look back. I should have known better and NEVER SHOULD HAVE TRUSTED HER with my baby boy! read more

This was our first visit. Except for weird parking, everything was exceptional - including the super friendly and knowledgeable vet, Courtney White, efficient and helpful staff, and competitive pricing. My dog normally needs anxiety meds before a vet appt - not this time! Her first visit went so smoothly. Remy loved Dr. White and the vet tech. They took her out of the room to take her blood and get a fecal sample, and she happily went with them, only whimpering for a second with the blood draw, and came back wagging her tail. My cats despise the vet, but they were curious about everything going on and so relaxed. Both allowed Dr. White to hold/examine them. Normally, they are restless and meowing like crazy while giving me major side-eye. They also took each kitty one at a time to get her claws trimmed and shots done so everyone else didn't freak out. Do not bring your pet here. Dr. White and the nurse Aaron (Erin) are so unprofessional and only care about money. My dog was having skin issues and I watched this nurse Erin drag my dog down the hallway pulling her poor neck. When I spoke up about it asking that she not drag my dog on the leash she then got upset & refused to see my dog that day. I will be filing a complaint with Virginia Department of Health Professions' Enforcement Division and the state veterinary licensing board. The unprofessionalism and lack of integrity and lack of respect from these people is unacceptable. Their bedside manner is awful. If you love and care for your animal DO NOT take your pet here. Read other reviews & you will see this place just is awful. The staff they have working here are so rude as well From the receptionist, to the nurses and the doctors. ***UPDATE I'd strongly recommend not using this vet. 25+ years going here. Well.... Today, we got a visit from the sheriff's deputy telling us Fairfield had called to report us. The deputy spoke to my 77 yo husband that was working in the yard. He had a stroke in 2020, has high BP, and has been hospitalized twice in the last year with congestive heart failure. It upset him greatly to have a visit from the police. We have a month to get all 3 cats vaccinated. I had already made an appointment with Chickahominy Animal Hospital in Providence Forge for Monday right after I left Fairfield. BAD form, Fairfield. Why are YOU being so hostile? my dog was hit by a car and we brought her to fairfield vet and was told that they could only give pain meds since they were closing soon. that was fine but I wasnt asked any questions like weight. My dog needed to be narcaned twice once we got to vvc due to too much medication. my dogs life was on the line due to ignorance. read more

I have a love-hate relationship with this place. Some employees are amazing, others are a little grumpy. Some doctors are thorough, others have left me feeling frustrated, anxious, and treated like I'm not very intelligent. What you get depends on the day and time and luck. Getting appointments during 2020 has become a new headache because it seems like ALL the vets, no matter where you go in the area, are slammed. Least it seems that way when I've spoken to other pet owners. Fairfield has been flexible with me when I need to get my dog in. It's not like it used to be pre-pandemic, but it's better than what I've heard from others. Receptionists definitely can sound frazzled at times, which I can't blame them and don't hold against them. I've seen the volume of patients pulling into the parking lot numerous times.... it's nuts. I can only imagine the call volume on top of visitors. Nine times out of ten, everyone has been sweet on the phone and very helpful. Shoutout to Ryan because she goes above and beyond every time I've had the pleasure of speaking with her. She helped me, made sure I was able to speak with a doctor, and was willing to work around my work schedule after a few hiccups a few months back. I don't think I'll ever be able to thank her enough for how kind and helpful she was. I was on the cusp of looking for a new vet practice and she's the reason why I didn't. Techs are always sweet. They listen. They're helpful. Vets. Dr. Kerner is one of my favorites. I have nothing but good things to say about her. She and Ryan are really a powerhouse team at that place. Dr. Kerner takes the time to listen, she explains things thoroughly without coming off condescending, and gosh....she is wonderful about follow up calls. She even came outside yesterday to speak with me at the car about additional details that she forgot to mention on the phone. I adore her. I feel like my dog is in loving and caring hands and after everything that's happened recently, I cannot even begin to express how grateful I am for this. I will follow her wherever she goes if she leaves this practice. Dr. White and Dr. Tisnado (sp?) were also both very good when I've interacted with them. read more

Do not bring your pets here. I have been using this vet for awhile because of convenience, but after an altercation with Dr White, I will never be back. Dr White is mentally unwell, abusive and grossly unprofessional, IMO. I brought my cat in for complete labs and she has food allergies and has had an exacerbation. Flea meds don't work anymore and I won't keep dumping poison on my 15 year old cat just to make a vet money. Dr White raised her voice in the waiting area and berated me for "flea dirt". I flea comb my cat daily and she had one flea the night before. She then told me the cat was scratching herself in the carrier, but she was scratching at the walls and towel to cover her feces as she had pooped in her carrier. This was the second visit to get her labs done because they would not sedate my cat the first time. I would never have had this woman do my labs if I had known she would be in charge. I brought my cat in Monday for an exam and labs and they did not examine her or they would have noticed she had an ear infection, which I saw the next day. Most of time they don't even take my pets temp. I have had 4 cats misdiagnosed or not diagnosed at all in spite of their health history. Dr White must get paid by how many meds and charges she can add to the bill, and has zero empathy for your pet. IMO she is incompetent. I had her for a vet for my cat who was seriously ill and all she did was throw money at the symptoms instead of actually diagnosing him correctly. One day I was waiting to pay my bill and a woman came back in after taking her dog home and said her dogs anal fissure had ruptured in the car. Who sends home a dog with an anal fissure ready to burst instead of treating it?? Disgusting. Avoid this place if you care about your pets. read more

I'm not really sure what to say. But after being a client since 1999 and seeing this practice go through two owners. I've been sick most of the year and I had 3 vets visits between July-Sept. I took my dog to have surgery and was dealing with anxiety. But I was accused of being rude to the receptionist before I got there. They had a letter written by Dr White saying my dogs and I were no longer welcome there. She also said I was rude many times last year. I was only there 3 times because of my illness. And if I was rude many times why did they wait so long to kick me out? Dr White is the one that's rude! And she lied on me in the letter! But it was a blessing in disguise. After 35 years at Fairfield I left as they asked. I went to Mechanicsville Animal Hospital and they are so respectful as opposed to how Fairfield is becoming. They treat me like family at Mechanicsville! And the surgery Fairfield said my dog needed?? She was put on antibiotics and she healed! No surgery required! I wonder how many unnecessary surgeries Fairfield put my pets through over the years. Thank you Fairfield for kicking me out in front of other clients! You did me a huge favor! But could you please stop sending me postcards telling me my pets need to come in for shots, etc. Maybe I'll collect them and put them in an envelope and send them back to you. I wouldn't go back to Fairfield if they offered free services for my dogs! They lost a lot of money by kicking me to the curb. But I've saved a lot! I left a comment on google also about my two kittens I took to this vet, one of them we rescued from a yard sale which was very sick and anorexic, they decided to prescribe the kitten a medication that was for 6 month old cats, he was not 6 months old and passed away from organ failure. My other kitten was born in our house and had a messed up sternum and they couldn't provide her surgery and she passed away in my floor. Don't take your animals here. read more

I've been coming here for like 3-5 years, and have always had an easy time. Especially when I was still new to taking care of a pet and wasn't sure what some medical condition was. They would take the time to explain to me, and would sometime recommend what was the most prioritized price or vaccine to get for my two little furball. Especially when they go the extra mile to help me with my budget, and didn't really go in my face or shove down my throat with things that are extremely out of my budget, it's also nice I don't need to tell them all the time since they can read the room. It's also good that they treat my pet with care when examining, despite my dogs not loving the Vet, haha. I have two dogs and they hate strangers with a burning passion, if they weren't inside an unknown building they would be barking at it for 24/7, but that's Chihuahua for you. My only complaint is once when I sent in an appointment from the website, and didn't get any notification for appointment until I had to call to make another one. I am a simple person and prefer to have the option to set up an appointment without having to talk to another if possible. Other than that, that's probably it. read more

They don't care about animals, they do whatever they want, and they charge for it whenever possible and when they don't feel like doing something they don't bother. When my cat got fixed they decided to fix a hernia at the same time without consulting us (the same behavior would be illegal if done on a human, consent is required for everything a doctor does) and of course made sure to charge for it. We had to go back later that day because they didn't close the incision properly. The last time my cat had an appointment to get a checkup they just gave her a rabies shot and didn't even have a doctor in the building (the half-done appointment still wasn't that cheap). I took her to get a cyst removed and they insisted we buy a sedative from them to give her before the appointment even though the surgery would, of course, require general anesthesia and as a bonus, they lost the blanket that was in her carrier. Just yesterday I took her to get the stitches from her cyst removal out and they once again insisted on sedating her and somehow managed to charge me nearly $150 for the appointment even though the actual stitch removal was included in the cost of the surgery itself. Then they took nearly an hour to bring her out after I showed up to get her (after the time they said I could pick her up) and tried to charge for an expensive eye ointment that I already had enough of from the surgery. Today I noticed that they apparently decided to trim her claws (somehow they had time to do that without permission but not to bring her out to the car). They didn't charge for that and it should be clear by now that the only reason they didn't was that they knew they didn't have any medical excuse to do it and it was not acceptable. The one trace of a bright spot was that after I complained they managed to find the blanket they lost. The only reason I didn't stop going a long time ago is that I wasn't aware of any other vets nearby. There is one and I will not be going here again. read more

Unprofessional, rude and non responsive. If their best interest really was for our pets they should treat their clients that way. My dog was in pain, I was told the dr would call me back because they couldn't see him they were booked however the dr would call me, I called 7 more times asking for an update only to be told at 3pm that she would not be helping me and if I thought he was in pain to go to Dogwood......this would have been been helpful to know AT 8AM!!!! I would have found him someone else and taken him right away, instead this place dragged it out telling me shes going to call you but she couldn't be bothered.....I found him a new hospital who took him this morning at 8am, hes on medication and received the care he needed. We've used these guys for years and usually my wife takes the pooch there for her shots. Every time she comes back she comments on how backed up they are and how late they are on appointments. We had an 11:30 appt. and it is now 12:30 with no sign of a vet anywhere. I overheard the girl on the phone saying they were backed up 2 hours. This at 12 noon. So it seems they consistently overbook and keep you waiting. I leave the vet decisions to my wife but this is bad business. Vet shows up at 12:38 asks a few questions and then rolls out to take care of another dog before treating our dog. All we came in for was routine vaccinations. read more

Fairfield Veterinary Hospital is THE BEST veterinary choice I could have ever made for my fur baby and I will be FOREVER thankful for their ENTIRE STAFF!!! After being hurt and having suffered a seizure, my 3 year old Pomeranian, was not doing well at all leaving me inconsolably hysterical. When I contacted them for help, there was never a moment of hesitation. The care she received from EVERYONE we encountered was above and beyond what I could have ever wished for. The level of genuine care, empathy and compassion we were shown was as if we were one of their own family. Financially, I was unable to admit her into another hospital able to provide overnight care nor was I able to afford the rather expensive tests and scans that they might provide. NONE of those issues interfered with her treatment at Fairfield Veterinary Hospital. Not only did they accommodate my financial situation, they also worked with scheduling for the continuous treatment she required. The doctors and nurses thoroughly educated me on every aspect of her prognosis, medications, treatment and provided a realistic expected outcome. There truly are no words to express my gratitude for everything they have done for us! Fairfield Veterinary Hospital saved my fur baby's life and we are eternally greatful!!! read more

i've been taking my 2 cats here since i moved to VA 4 years ago. been through everything from kitten shots to bladder stone removal surgery. i love the vets and the techs--very friendly and knowledgeable. being open late is also a plus! the only reason i won't give Fairfield Vet 5 stars is due to a recent event with the groomer. later in the evening after picking my cat up from her groom, i noticed a large 1in long, 1/4in wide gash under my cat's front arm from the clippers. i brought my cat in less than 48hrs later to have the wound glued shut & received antibiotics at no cost. it was made very apparent that the groomer did not let any of the other staff know what happened, so i was not told about this possible accident with the clippers. i appreciate the rest of the staff being SO wonderful about this incident, but i cannot excuse the groomer for this. if she hurt my cat--intentionally or not--she should have let someone know right away. i will not be bringing my cat back here for a groom, but i WILL stay for her general health. read more

I used to love taking my fur baby to this veterinarian hospital (Fairfield Veterinarian Hospital). Then when the pandemic happened every went bad. Staff became rude and when I tried to call for an appointment it took me a week before someone actually answered and not put me on hold for 20 mins at a time. So I took my fur baby in to get her annual check-up Friday 10/18th. Their procedure is that you call them before going in and it's either someone comes to get your pet, but this time they said I could bring her in. I took her inside and they told me that the visit would be 15 minutes and I would have to pay for services before I was serviced. She gave me the reason is because it cuts down on staffing. I asked what did she mean. Since I'm waiting for my fur baby and I bought her in myself, when I come back in I will pay. She said no you have to give your card information first then we'll service her. I asked the young lady because at this point i'm going somewhere else. When can I pick up her records to take her somewhere else. She said 24 to 48 hours we'll call you when it's ready. That was Monday 10/18, today is Friday so I called back to find out if the paperwork was ready and again waited for 20 mins someone picking up and hanging up on me. So I called back and needless to say. My fur babies paper work still isn't ready with a promise that someone would call me back today They really shouldn't get any stars. read more

Went in with my cat, My sweet Babboo, who had something wrong with him. I was called in about 5 minutes after filling out the paperwork, the nurse came right in when we went to the exam room and i think we waited 6 minutes or so for the Vet, it was crazy quick..... HOWEVER, the exam was not rushed, the Vet let me ask questions and didnt have one hand on the door the whole time (so to speak). She was also very friendly with my boy, which was a refreshing reprieve from my previous experiences with Vets and Emergency Vet hospitals. She throughly explained the issues my dog may have and throughly explained treatment options. She answered all of the questions that I had and didn't appear to be in a rush. Dr Dyers and Dr Weddle are absolutely wonderful animal loving vets. Dr Weddle is an alternative medicine doc, she is open minded, soft spoken and very informative. Dr. Dyer is a 'tell it like it is' doc and he makes sure you understand exactly what your options are, the expense behind the options and the scenarios for each option. Get a day time appointment during the week and I can get seen almost immediately. Work week afternoon and evening appointments and Saturday appointments there will be a wait if I am not the first one in. The wait is due to the amount of time these vets spend with their patients and owners. I do not mind the wait at all as I am prepared. I know this is a bit of a drive and there are good vets but these guys are worth the drive and the wait. read more

Completely incompetent! Shaved my dog down so low it looks like a buzz cut which is not what i asked for after specific instructions for my german shepherd. They also knicked my dog twice and burned his fur in one place. Then the staff had the nerve to make insensitive jokes saying that they were "trying to lighten the tension." I have been to a couple vets in the Richmond area, and Fairfield Veterinary Hospital is my favorite. The vets are knowledgable and care about the animals. Also, they've always given me the impression that they are trying to help me save money. Just recently, my dog had to have surgery. The front desk staff outlined which costs were mandatory, a possibility, and totally elective. They do not try to charge you for things your animal doesn't need. They tolerated my numerous phone calls throughout the day with a level of understanding and politeness many front desk personnel lack. The only con that I can think of is that every time you call the office you will be put on hold for 5-15 minutes. I owe the lives of at least two animals to this vet. We live on the other side of town, now, but I wouldn't take my little ones anywhere else! read more

They are not caring. One time they let my dog fall off the examining table. When she got sick recently, they misdiagnosed her and I had to pay another $350 to the ER who got it right. They wanted to keep her over night with IV fluids, yet they had no one to monitor her in a kennel-like environment with barking dogs where she could have chewn off the IV. Post surgery they gave me no instructions and just handed her to me, heavily medicated. Finally, when a vet advertises in Val-Pac for half off fees, you know they are bad news. These people are jaded just because they deal mostly with lower income folks. Avoid if you care about your animal. They can't keep a good vet, which also tells you something. read more

After my vet would not see my dog, who really needed to be seen Fairfield was able to see him that night. Dr. Rice saw my dog, and made a very difficult decision easier. My dog needed to be put down, he had injuries to two different legs and being 15 years old he wasn't going to heal. Although a horrible thing for me to have to decide I couldn't have asked for more concern and caring than what I was shown. I can't thank them enough for helping me through a very difficult time and explaining any and all options. Thank you so much Dr. Rice. read more
