Recently went back to Fairfield's- excellent food and service. The fish fries are the best in Rochester. Also loved the fried shrimp.

So we decided to try Fairfields tonight for a fish fry. We ordered 2 of the Jaws fish which were soggy! It seems as if they need to rethink the to go containers! The entire inside was moist from the warm food. We have eaten many a fish fry and these were the worst by far!! On a side note they also skimped on the fries! My daughters chicken fingers had more fries than our meal. If you are looking for a fish fry, there are better places! Keep looking:( Fyi when we picked up our food we noticed about 7-9 people sitting at the bar and there was no social distancing going on here! Plus no masks as well on the people sitting at the bar. We used to frequent Fairfield's quite often when we lived in the area. Now that we live in Florida, we ALWAYS make it a point to return when visiting. Standout meals: Pizza, best greens and beans on earth!, chicken parm, and chicken french. read more

My family has gone here a bunch of times over the years but this was my first time coming to Fairfield's. We went for the Friday Fish Fry that I've never had fresh (only have had takeout orders or leftovers) . I got the Jaws fish fry, beer battered. Your typical Haddock Rochester fish fry that comes with fries and slaw. It was very good! The breading was very flakey and the fish was juicy and filling. It was a really good fish fry! The steak fries were average but the slaw and tarter sauce was very good, a solid compliment to the fish fry. Why just the 3 star review: It's just your typical bar and grill, average. The fish fry was probably one of the best I've had but I couldn't taste the beer like I have had in the past. I would be willing to go back and try again or even get something else to maybe increase this star rating. We sat in the bar and it was very loud but the dining room looked quieter. Was looking for someplace new we had not been to fairly close to home. Found Fairfield's online and saw that they had a fairly large menu of things that looked pretty good. Got there and the place was almost empty - was about 8 pm on a Tuesday. Order was taken and waitress was very nice.Then we waited. And waited, And Waited. Waited almost an hour for a plate of spaghetti with a sausage and a Cobb Salad. Food was good when it finally came, but after initial contact waitress disappeared and never came back until she served our food then disappeared again. We finally got up looked for someone to get our check and left. I won't return. Even though the food was good, it took way too long for nothing special, and the service left a lot to be desired. read more

I'd give a higher rating since I've had many good meals here. But, the other night we went in and 3/7 of us ordered entrees from the "happy hour" selection on the menu. These meals are discounted at certain hours and it was a surprise to us so some of us ordered. When we got the check we asked why we were charged full price and were told...we didn't specify that we wanted the early bird price since those meals are smaller. So wouldn't a server tell you this? It made our bill over $20 more so win for them. Bad customer service. read more

We stopped in on Saturday afternoon for their prime rib dinner. We were certainly glad we did. The food was delicious and plentiful. Salad was crisp, dinner rolls warm. The prime rib was cooked exactly the way we requested, not under done, or over done. Jill was our server and she was excellent. Very friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and seemed to enjoy her job, at least when it came to working with the customers. There is a negative side to this review. We witnessed what seemed to be middle school antics. The bartender (I think her name is Ann Marie) was overheard speaking negatively about our server. She also spoke firmly to what looked like a trainee, out on the outdoor seating area, which is fine, except there was a patron out there smoking. My opinion is that the customer should not be witness to negativity from staff members, about other staff members. Shows a high degree of unprofessionalism. Also witnessed same bartender showing an elevated amount of attention to regulars that were at the bar, but when a couple who obviously weren't regulars sat at the bar, they got served, but not to anywhere near the interest or degree as the others. I think they felt they were intruding or an interruption for Ann Marie. I will go again for the food, but will refuse service from Ann Marie. read more

Excellent dinners and a friendly bar. We ordered artichoke French on angel hair pasta. My partner went for the grilled wrap and cold slaw. Both were prepared to perfection. The portions were big enough for take home tomorrow 's supper. The service was quick and friendly. The restaurant is clean and comfortable with nice art work everywhere. I went to dinner tonight and wished I looked at reviews. Our server had a bad day or shouldnt be in the business because there was no smile or even a glimmer of even caring about her job. She took order..delivered it and took our money. She never even asked how it was at any point. Food was nothing I would go back for. The building itself was still in the 80s. This place is kind of tucked away on a corner. I'd driven by it hundreds of times without really giving it much thought. I finally tried it, and have since been back a few times. The atmosphere is reasonable though a bit cheap feeling. The servers have always been very friendly and accommodating. All the food I've had has been good and delivered in timely fashion. I am surprised that this restaurant has not made it into Yelp until now. This is a family owned restaurant located in Penfield and let me tell you, the food is fresh and always taste great. They have a loyal customer base and Fridays are specially busy due to their oversized fish fry, which is served on Wed as well. If you are ever in the mood to have some honest, simple, delicious dishes, please give this place a try. You will not regret it. Prices are reasonable and the portions are large. Been a regular here for 25 plus years. Excellent atmosphere, very friendly and casual. Very fair prices, and interesting specials. Homemade soups, every one delicious. Pizza selection is good, and the crusts are to die for. Best Patty Melt ever, a favorite. Fish Fry, also offered on Wednesday, doesn't disappoint. Never had disappointing meal or service, in fact, there are so many regulars that customers and servers usually know each other. That always makes for a warm welcome above and beyond. The bar is very comfortable, with a good selection. This is a great place that wouldn't have been there so long. Kid home for a visit. Fish Fry!! Parking lot full. But wait! Early folks leaving. Seated in less than 5 min. Place is packed. Booth in the back. Perfect for talk time. Waitress,Elena, right there, beer comes quickly. 'minnow' portions of battered fish with our choices of sides are served fresh and hot and quickly. All 3 of us pleased. Went for happy hour, not a friendly bartender didnt even say hi when we walked in- messed up our drinks and food. And insisted we didn't order a half priced app. So we ended up having to pay 9 bucks for quesdillas. Won't be going back again which is a bummer cause we live so close! Came here for lunch with friends. Service was fine, the menu selections were fine the food was decent and the price was what you would expect for what you got. Nothing special, nothing memorable. Food is generally bad - burned nachos & pizza, watery chili, very bland wings, etc. Service is also poor at best.

My wife and I were there the other night. The meal was decent but the waitress forgot to bring water and later on forgot to bring my wife's salad. I heard the next table over complain that they never got their salad either. We decided to get dessert to go. The desserts there have always been excellent. We got a piece of the towering chocolate cake. Later on when we got home to enjoy dessert we found that it was extremely dry and stale. It was obvious they the cake was old and had been sitting in the case for a long time. Very disappointed after spending $7.99 for stale cake. read more

Came to use a BOGO for dinner. Ordered pizzas which turned out to not qualify. Before finding out, ordered dessert to go, so suddenly the bill was more than twice as expected. Perhaps an ordinary person might understand a complaint at this point, but not our waitress. She became defensive even though the complaint was specifically about the coupon not being usable. After tipping her 20% on the bill, on the way out, she felt comfortable sharing that she "didn't appreciate" what she called "yelling at her for policies she didn't control". Her rude and inappropriate treatment was shocking. It's unfortunate that the quality of the food isn't matched by a professional attitude on the part of the wait staff. If you decide to eat here anyway, suggest not wasting money on the desserts. Look much better than they taste. read more

We stopped for a late lunch yesterday. The place was deserted due to the time of day and a nearby festival, but we loved the quiet, and extra attention from our very friendly waitress. The chili cheeseburger and California chicken sandwich were both delicious! A crock of French onion soup was on the small side, but very tasty. We're not fond of potato chips served with burgers / sandwiches, so the homemade mac salad was ordered and was also very good and fresh. This place is very pricey for the quality of the food. The food is mediocre, the service is less than stellar (I had to keep going to the bar to get things that the waitress should have got for us - including the bill!), and the prices are high for small town USA. Someone commented that the desserts were great - I found just the opposite to be true. The cake that I ordered was completely freezer burned and was inedible. To the credit of the staff, they didn't charge me for it when I complained. I've lived in Fairport for 14 years and never made it Fairfield until now. I will be sure to wait another 14 before concidering going again. My friend and I sat at the bar to grab a bite. Within 1 minute I could see the one female bartender must have had some drinks herself. She was so loud, only attended to the 5 or 6 regulars she was cackling with the entire time and she was obnoxious and crass. The food was mediocre at best. Chowder was flavorless and artichokes french had no lemon. Someone needs to buy those cooks some spices. read more

We began the evening meeting at 6:30 PM at the restaurant and requested a table for 7. We went to the bar and ordered drinks. An hour later we asked about the table and were told it would not be much longer. At this point 2 of our party did not want to wait any longer and left. After some time we were seated for dinner. The waitress Cathy came over and asked if we would like drinks which we declined because we had already been there for some time. A diet coke was ordered. She appeared bothered that we did not order drinks. We then ordered dinner; 2 french onion soups and two salads. These appeared in an appropriate time. We then waited for our dinners of which two were appetizer portions. The other three meals were a burger, greens and beans over pasta, and broiled fish with sides. At 8:30 we had yet to receive our dinners. I went up to the hostess stand. There were three servers there who explained to me that there were several large parties and that this was the reason for the delay in seating and the delay in receiving or meals. When I returned to the table our meals were being served. After finishing our dinners our waitress asked if we would like dessert. One in our party requested the Tiramisu, the other, apple crisp. A short time later Cathy came back and told us there was no more Tiramisu. No "I'm sorry", no suggestion of another choice and she went to the next table. I asked the person who ordered the apple crisp if she still wanted it and Cathy , who over heard my question came back to the table and said, "I already put it in." The dessert was served and we were given our bills. I'm a member of the restaurant's email club and I receive coupons to use. With my bill I gave a coupon that was for $10 off 2 dinner entrees. The waitress returned and said the coupon could not be used because I had the fish dinner and that my daughter had the burger and this was not an entree. First, only the early fish fry was not eligible and you're telling me that after waiting for dinner seating and waiting to be served and spending over $60 on dinner and drinks previous that in an effort to apologize for our inconvenience that they were unable to accept this coupon. OK, so I gave them another coupon for $5 of the bill. Then the waitress returns to say ask if I had the top of the coupon. You see the way the business has their webpage formatted the information is printed on different pages and it should go without saying they know what their coupons are good for and you can print out as many as you need. So we give her the other page and she reports that the owner will take the money out of her pay if she accepts an incorrect coupon. Then I get up to leave and Cathy comes up to me and says, " I'm sorry your friend was so annoyed" I explained that we had waited all this time, ordered dinner and then ordered dessert and now you are out of the one she wanted. Cathy then said that our friend did not need to roll her eyes at her and be so rude and if she knew that she wanted the dessert she should have ordered it at the beginning of the dinner. I told Cathy that she is in the service industry and it is her job to service us, She should not blame the customer for being upset when they can't fulfill their reasonable requests and to tell me what she should have done, totally inappropriate. To summarize, no attempt was made to apologize for our wait for a table or our wait for our meals. I have no interest in hearing about the restaurant's policies and I certainly don't want a waitress complaining about how her boss treats her or her perception of how upset my friend was. Overall the staff needs training in customer service and managing expectations of their patrons. At no time should the staff tell a customer that we did something wrong when they are unable to perform their job. read more

This was my first time trying Fairfields. The artichoke French was the best I've ever had, we used the bread to sop up the buttery lemon sauce. The grilled calamari - perfect, and the Mediterranean shrimp and clam special was outstanding. The atmosphere is casual and modest. There's no music or TV in the dining room, which I'm extremely grateful for. The food was great, right down to the homemade bread. Prices are very reasonable. Oh man! I am so disappointed. We went to Fairfields because we had a coupon from the Entertainment book. We used a similar one last week at Napa. When I asked a question about not being able to use it, the waitress stormed off and said ok if I get fired I'm calling you. Honestly, I am an over questioner and I was disappointed that we couldn't use the coupon, but the way she acted made me feel so beyond uncomfortable. I would think the owner would be pleased to have business during the week. If we had had a good experience, we surely would have been back frequently without a coupon. Bad decision made by her boss. On Friday, 3-15-19 at 3:40pm, I ordered their famous fish fries, side of onion rings and bowl of clam chowder soup, through Grub Hub to be delivered at 6:45pm. Grub Hub is advertised on Fairfields' website. I received a confirmation that my order was excepted. Then several more texts, "at 6:30 we're on our way," "at 6:55 your order will be delivered between 7:05 and 7:15"... then last one, 5 min later, "Your order is cancelled, you will get a refund on your credit card". I tried calling Fairfields and they had their phone off the hook (bsy, bsy, bsy signal). I posted on Facebook my experience and a friend of my daughter commented: that this this same thing happen to them the Friday before. I called Fairfields the next morning, and they happily informed me they turn off the port for Grub Hub orders from 2pm through 7pm every day!, because they are too busy. I called Grub Hub and they told me Fairfields cancelled the order because they didn't have the ingredients. By the way the phn # for Grub Hub is in Honduras! I called Fairfields back and they said typical of Grub Hub, and they were going to have Guiseppe the owner of the bar call me back.. and I still haven't heard from him, this is a day later. DO NOT ORDER FROM GRUB HUB.. and the least Fairfields should do is stop advertising them on their WEB site if they don't allow orders to come into the restaurant for dinner. This was suppose to be a surprise for my husband, but instead we had left over Pizza from Marks Pizza. Terrible Customer Service on both parties, GRUB HUB and FAIRFIELDs GRILL. read more

Last Friday my wife & I had a great meal and terrific service from our server named Mike. It was our first time there and it was quite busy.
