I've had multiple good experiences at Fairway Golf. Jeff is extremely knowledgeable, willing to help, and fun to talk to. The store also has some very cool Japanese market items that can be tough to find elsewhere (Iomic grips, Miura irons, etc.). I've had a shaft assembled (gripped and tipped) and a few of my putters bent to where I wanted them--everything went well. My brother-in-law also tried something like two dozen different shafts for his Srixon irons in their simulator before settling on the right ones for him and having his entire set re-shafted. They even swapped his recently mounted grips over to the new shafts! If I had to summarize, I would say this is a great place for the fellow equipment geeks among us in the wonderful game of golf. I've really enjoyed my experiences at Fairway Golf. They have all the equipment of a big box store with the great service and knowledge of a local golf shop. The employees in the front are always welcoming and acknowledge me as I come in. I worked with Jeff who help me install a new black and grip onto my putter. Went in asking the repair guy if he had any 66 TI ferrules that he could sell me for a build I needed to do. His response to me "how do you know what that it is?" Like as if I'm trying to flip a sale or something. I explained to him I'm a golfsmith myself and just need some ferrules for a build. He then tells me, "ohh well any golfsmith will know that repair shops don't sell normal ferrules, but I have BB&F for $6." First of all yes they do and I don't know what he was trying to prove to me just because I knew exactly what I was looking for. If someone is asking all you have to do is say yes or no. Had some work done on clubs, when I went in to get them, I asked why no one called me when they were done, cocky guy, manager or club smith, informed me that they don't call people, even if clubs are done early...they had my number. The guy could have been so much better to end the transaction. For me, it is all about customer service. I won't be back. It took me 2 visits to make a decision but I'm very happy with the outcome. I see in a number of reviews people comment on the staff not offering to help them. I will say this is not the typical big box retail store. It's smaller, with a local feel, and a lot of repeat clientele. Top shelf establishment for those in the know. An excellent way to shorten your learning curve for those starting out. Unmatched expertise and product knowledge. The first time I came here, within the first few minutes I knew I was somewhere special because the conversation between the team members is much different than any other golf shop. Japanese owned, if you know the quality and ethos that comes with traditional Japanese companies, then you know that the tolerances will be tighter for functional items, and the rarity is just a bit more elusive for Veblen good type social status items. Jeff is a golf club virtuoso / meastro, Tony is good enough to be on the tour IMO and Tyler is very generous with advice and accumen. To sum up my review in one sentence: I stopped going to any other golf shop in San Diego after I realized the depth of quality of this establishment, I won't be returning to any of the others any time soon. read more

They shipped it almost two weeks late and we missed his birthday. To make things worse, their customer service department is terrible. Delayed review because I have mixed emotions about my early May visit here. Golf equipment and apparel are top notch, at least in my experience with sport specific shops. I was very impressed. The help I received was also detailed and top notch. Chuck helped me in the simulator and dialed in a Titleist TSi3 driver amazingly to match my swing. I love it. Thank you Chuck. You are awesome. The mixed emotions are about leaving an average (3 star) review because I walked around for probably 5 minutes and poked around in every section, but had to walk up to an employee, stand in front of him since he still hadn't said anything and literally say "Can you help me?" before anyone said a single word to me or attempted to give any assistance. After that the experience was great but that initial WTF has bothered me enough, especially since multiple golf stores around the San Diego area just seem to be this way. read more

I am adding my review to Yelp because of how horrendous we were treated at this store. Warning to all WOMEN considering shopping here. My wife needed her grips changed and the man assisting us continued to snicker and scoff at every question she asked. He embodied disrespect that is unacceptable for customer. My wife has played golf for 20 years and he treated her as if she knew nothing. This behavior was starkly contrasted when the next customer was a middle aged white man who the same sales clerk treated like a king even though he was asking the same questions regarding grips. To make things worse, the prices were almost double for the same grips from a nearby store. They had a very poorly marked selection and didn't clarify pricing for our purchase. A couple buddies told me about Fairway golf after getting fitted for a full set of irons. So on my way down to Kearny Mesa to meet a couple of friends for lunch, thought I'd stop in as I'm in the market for a putter. Walked in I guess Jun who is a manager based on who I saw on the website said hello which is cool then I walked over to the putting area and there was already a couple of guys working with a man and his wife with another guy waiting for his turn. I asked one the guys if they do fittings for putters and he just kind looked confused and had nothing else to offer. So I just start trying some Taylormades and oddessys, going back forth with various mallets then the guy says are you partial to TM then hands me a Rossi and Bettinardi. That's it. So I go between the 2 he gives me and then back to others but after that, the guy is no where to be found. After about 20 minutes I'd trying putters , Jun swings by, mumbles something and I asked if the Rossi I had was a 34 or 35 inch, he measured and says it's a 35. I was looking to get it in a 34 but he walked off without a word. I know they don't give a shit about a loss sale, but WTF ever happened to sales people asking, "how can I help you, do you need help or let me know if you need something". read more

First time regrip golf clubs. I didn't really know what to expect, but definately didn't expect this outcome. They helped me find the right grips within my budget and their labor was less than other shops. So far so good and I was just excited to get back into the game. A few days past, no call. So I called and when I asked if my clubs were ready they said "Oh yes, it's been done, no one called you?" Lucky I called.... so moving on, still excited! Checkout time. This is when I noticed I was charged more than I was originally told. I asked the cashier for the breakdown of the charges and he said the grips were a dollar more for each and that it was "a good deal." Hmm.... yes but it was a better deal a few days ago. I didn't argue because again I was just excited that I had my clubs back and I wanted to just go to the range. Besides, they never gave me a invoice/order slip when I dropped them off ‍ and when I asked for one the employee said "No you don't need one." Hmm... why is that....so that I can be charged a different price when I pick it up? Lesson learned & moving on. Now the reason for the low rating. The shafts were scuffed with a black residue and I also noticed some scratch marks on some of them towards the bottom of the shaft near the head. I tried rubbing it off with my hand and asked the cashier what these marks were from and he said it was because my grips were old. Yes, I know this hence why I brought them to be regripped. What I didn't understand is why wouldn't they wipe the residue off? When I shared my concerns with him all he can say was "It's easy to clean, just wipe it down with windex." Really!?!?!?! Ok I'll do that and I'll never do business here again. Again, this is my first experience with taking my clubs to get regripped by a "professional." Not exactly sure if other shops would leave the clubs with sticky black residue or wipe them down before returning to the customer, but that doesn't excuse the scratch marks and the overcharging after the work is done. I don't mind paying more for quality work, it doesn't matter if it was a good deal or not. read more

So I have gone twice to be fitted for golf clubs. I had the pleasure of running into Cliff. This guys knowledge and care for others is unparalleled. I hope the store values him and pays him what he's worth. Other employees come up to him with questions and he answers them quickly. He has the best personal skills I have encountered in a long time in the service industry. He will actually listen to you and size you up with your body type and athletic ability when he fits you with clubs. I cannot say enough about him. I hope the company appreciates him and values him. VERY dishonest business. Paid almost $3,000 for a brand new set of Honma irons. Turns out they tried to give me clubs they had collecting dust on their shelves. I paid for premium, custom-fitted irons custom "made from the factory" but they tried to tell me later that they have a set they were sitting on from which they would just pull the shafts and replace with that were decided on from the fitting session. Called Honma direct to settle the issue. On top of this, I waited 2 weeks to chase them down on where my irons were before I reached the sales guy, Dale, who tells me Honma was closed for 8 days during the holidays. Absolute rubbish. I speak with Honma who tells me they never even received the order! If you reading this, I suggest you do NOT go to these guys. Not an honest place. They will sell you a load of crap and try to get away with it. These other poor reviews are spot on. Wish I would've read them before I came here. read more
