Stellar example of a falafel shop. Should be in every city in the country. On par with Taim in NYC (if you've had Taim, you've had the best.) Falafelji does not make their own pitas, BUT they are excellent pitas and taste like they were made on the premises. Freshly-fried but not over-fried falafel balls. Perfect. Very tasty lentil soup. I could've eaten more but we had a 7-hour drive ahead and I didn't want to drowse. Pretty awesome find, and a sure-shot to falafel happiness every time you're in Chicago. It's a no-frills environment with a fair amount of seating, but you're probably better off going take-out. Falafelji doesn't have a soda fountain, so cans of soda and bottles of water are the only way to go. I've been here twice now, and have gotten the same thing both times, the falafel sandwich and herb fries. The food is incredible, and prepared after you order. As a result, the sandwich is fresh, and the fries are hot. The sandwich, fries, and a can of soda totaled to just under $10. I brought a group of friends here, and they brought all of our food out at the same time. It's not something you think about, but for a small fast-food joint like Falafelji, it's an important attention to detail. The menu is relatively small, but focused, with solid vegetarian options. Alright so I visited again and tried two new items hoping they'd be amazing. Beef Shawarma Wrap -- cold, dry, ok on flavor but would have been so much better warm! (no spit here, so they didn't warm it enough on the grill) Stuffed Grapevine leaves -- These were also served cold. The first bite left a lardy layer on my teeth only to be followed by more lardy (greasy like) layer all over the inside of my mouth. Gross. Our family makes these, and ours are delicious - I know what they are supposed to taste like and this was not it. I heated the rest and it was still the same. The only plus was that this time my wrap was served on a pita instead of a wrap. The wrap was dry last time I was here, this time it was on a fluffier pita and that added something better to the sandwich. The chicken kabob was still solid. That was my second sandwich. I found this place through grubhub. We decided to go straight there to check it out. It's in a strip mall with not much seating inside. The people were friendly and helpful though when I asked for an extra chair. We ordered four platters among 5 people. We did the vegetarian platter-hummus, baba ghanoush and red bell pepper hummus; the combination kabob; the kafta kabob and the steak kabob. And also 15 falafel appetizer. The falafels were awesome. Fried perfectly and not dry or crumbly. The kabobs were awesome. The chicken was juicy not dry at all. The kafta kabob was probably my favorite. The garlic mayo on the chicken was so delicious. The sauces were all good too--the spicy habanero will kick some serious butt! One of the guys behind the counter who seemed to be in charge indicated that they will be opening soon in La Grange. I go to Falafelji about 3 times a week. The location is perfect for those looking to end their workout at the nearby XSport and load up on protein. I highly recommend teh side of chicken Shawarma or Chicken Kabob. the 4 piece Falafel is also a great option. I wish they still had the roasted red pepper hummus which I've been pushing "Abe" to sell again, it was taken off the menu due to low demand =( I hear Chicken Tikka Massala (or an Indian flavored chicken) will be served soon, looking forward to it! read more

Amazing place! My brother and I come here about once every two weeks. Sometimes even more. We order their falafel sandwich with hot sauce. Great [vegetarian] option, by the way. I don't know what makes it better than the other spots, but this place has consistently made the best falafel sandwich I've had, ever. I've been to a few other places that I'm not even willing to write a review about because they are just alright. Never bad, but never this great. The hummus was also flavorful and creamy, it had a blend of vegetables and olive oil so you can scoop it all together with their very soft pita bread. We stopped by here after a trip to Brookfield Zoo. We were pretty hungry at this point, and I was excited to try something new with the kiddos. Anyway, my husband got the combination platter ($12) and I got the chicken shawarma platter (11$). The place itself has a few chairs and tables to sit at. I get the vibe most people just take their food to go with how the space looked. The food took a long time to come out (more than 10 minutes at least), so that was a little annoying but there was nothing that could be done. The combination platter was really disappointing size wise. There were just a couple pieces of each meat and it didn't seem like enough food for 12$. That being said, my chicken shawarma had a lot of chicken. The best part of both platters is the garlic sauce they put on top of their meats. It is so creamy and delicious. The salad was very lemony and fresh tasting. The grilled veggies added another dimension of flavor. The rice was also sort of lemony, but it was very good with the meat. I would say for the price and quantity of food, it is not somewhere I would go again frequently when out that way. read more

Skip this place. For the price, there are better places in the area to eat at. 1. I paid with cash, and the cashier didn't even give me my change. Um, ok. 2. The meat is stored in open containers in fridges. Not good practice at all. 3. Food was super over cooked and dried out. Basically it was left on the grill too long because they weren't paying attention. We were the only people in the shop, and it took 20 minutes to cook a combo platter and put some lentil soup on a container. 4. Super salty. Like omg. This is top-quality food for unbeatable prices! We came in for lunch today and were treated like family. Every dish exceeded expectations. I would not have changed anything. We had lentil soup, koubideh combo, falafel and hummus. This fed the entire family and was YUM! My daughter spilled soup everywhere and the gentleman was so kind and cleaned it up, asked if she was okay, and brought us a new soup. Even though it was our fault, he comped us another soup and explained that he remembers how hard it was going out to eat when his children were this age. We went a little nuts and spent over $50 for our family of 4. Which includes 2 kids. We did take some leftovers home. I got the kefta sandwich, my wife got a kebab dinner and we had some sides. A large salad, lentil soup and baba ganoush. And the herb garlic fries. Man those fries. Everything was really good. I feel like the baba ganoush might be slightly on the salty side. Nothing to compare to it just tasted that way but was great anyway. We sat near the back but everytime someone opened the door you felt the cold air (this is march). In winter dress in such a way you will be warm but can eat. Drinks out of a fridge. Snapple, Pepsi, etc. The one thing I have to go back and try are the falafils. Silly me didn't even get any on the side. We went at 7 pm saturday and only 2 other tables had customers eating in. Really liked the food will have to try other items on the menu. read more
