I came here last night for dinner and drinks with friends. We had a 6:30pm reservation for six. It was for a celebration for two of my friends' birthdays. They have been open for almost three years but it was my first time there. The place is rustic and cool inside. They have nice decor. We were seated immediately. We were waiting on a few friends so we placed our drink order. I ordered The Last Word. It was pretty good. We were waiting on a final friend so we all placed our food order. I ordered the pretzel bites as an appetizer. They came with beer cheese dipping sauce. They were really good. There wasn't a waitress or server coming around for awhile asking us if we wanted another drink. My friend ordered Prosecco to share with the table and it took forever for it to be delivered to the table. I ordered the Bahn-mi with fries. The beef on the Bahn-mi was marinated really well. The actual sandwich was really good. The fries were basic shoestring fries. They weren't bad. It was cool that the food was served in wooden boxes, similar to deep lunch trays. During our long wait for our bills, the waitress brought out a warm cookie in a skillet with ice cream on top for my two birthday friends to share. When a friend called to make the reservation a week prior, she was assured that we could do separate checks. Also, based on what was said throughout the meal to the waitress, we thought she knew that we wanted separate checks. We were disappointed that we weren't brought separate checks but she went downstairs and was able to eventually separate them. All-in-all it was a mixed bag. They did not have the reservation that I had made days prior. We were seated at the bar which was okay however I could not hear what my friends at the other side were saying. We ordered and didn't receive our breakfasts for over an hour. We had to ask them to box up our meals because we had to pick up our kids. We asked for our meals after an hour of waiting and were told they still had another 10 minutes on them. My meal was also missing the topping that it was supposed to come with. I met a local friend for dinner, my short rib sandwich on welk was great! Tender meat, tasty bun. The Brussels sprouts were okay, less tender than I'd like and no real seasoning. They were topped with bacon bits (always a good choice!). My friend ordered the salt & pepper shrimp with cauliflower and Brussels sprouts as sides. Of the 3 dishes, the cauliflower was best. I had heard good things about FA before we went last night which sometimes can lead to disappointment when a place is over hyped. I have to say this absolutely did not happen. We LOVED this place. The decor inside near the bar and indoor tables was great. The back patio where we ate was also nice. On a hot day it was cool and comfortable outside on their patio. We had a table of 6 and we tried a multitude of items on the menu. Here's what we had: -Buffalo deviled eggs = A+ -French Onion soup (non traditional French onion but one of the best I've ever had) = A+ - stuffed pepper flatbread = A+ - buffalo mozzarella salad = B+ - pork chop = A++ - scallops = A+ - steak sandwich with banana pepper = A - kimchi with short rib = A - Falley Burger = A - skillet chocolate chip cookie = A+ To say everyone we were with loved the food here would be an understatement. Ok, ok, so the food itself was 5 stars without a doubt! Poke bowls are one of my all time favorite dishes and this place DOES IT RIGHT! The pear and Gorgonzola flat bread pizza was quite good, albeit sticky due to the truffle honey glaze. My fiancée got the steak sandwich and the skillet Mac and cheese. I did not sample any of the sandwich from him but you can bet I sampled the Mac and cheese and it did not disappoint. The radiatore pasta really made the mac and cheese hold its sauce/flavor. As for the atmosphere. There were Great design details including lighting, tables, glassware, etc. However, these well thought out details cannot cover up for the poor acoustics. There was not that many people in the bar/restaurant and our party of four lost all our voices after having to scream to one another in order to be heard. I went for Dining Out For Life, so right away they get an extra star for donating to such a great cause! The food was great! We had poutine and meatballs for appetizers and both were delicious. The added touch of ricotta to the meatballs was a a cheese lovers dream. The stuffed pepper on the steak sandwich was hot but not overpowering. As a self proclaimed Mac and cheese connoisseur, I always try it where ever I go and it was delicious. It was creamy and cheesy and the fisarmoniche pasta (I believe) wasn't anything I've seen used before in Mac and cheese. Score: 4/5 cheese wedges :) I'll definitely be going back. read more

I was really impressed with this place from the moment I walked in. The service was fantastic and food was great too! When we got there the only available table for 2 was close to the door. The hostess asked us if we were okay sitting at that specific table, which I thought was really polite since it's clearly not a desirable seat. We didn't mind at all and said it would be fine. Our waitress came over right away and was super attentive the whole time. I asked for her opinion about two sandwiches and she gave me a really honest answer about which one she thought was better. Much appreciated! I can't stand when they say "well everything on this menu is really great...". Throughout the meal multiple wait staff members came to check in on us and ask if we needed anything else. We were hoping the food would be as good as the service and it certainly was! The banh mi was flavorful and the side of mac and cheese was out of this world. The sandwich was on the smaller side - enough for dinner but don't expect leftovers. The chicken tenders were anything but ordinary! Loved the fun presentation and sauces that let you make the dish whatever you want it to be. Highly recommend this restaurant. I came here on a quite week night as it is often very busy on the weekends and I can tell why. The cocktails and food were excellent. I had a bourbon cocktail that was strong and delicious. This place serves up New American Cuisine at its finest and was named after a Historian by the name of (Lewis Falley Allen) who came to Buffalo in the 1820's from Massachusetts, bought 29 Acres of Land, bred Cattle and herd them up & Down Allen Street, he defined the Allentown Neighborhood. Personally me coming was not my Decision, my Cousin Mike and his Girlfriend Sydney have been wanting to eat out with me for some Time and this was our Perfect Opportunity (this place was 1 of 5 Options and it was an excellent Decision). We also brought along Mike & Sydney's Sisters (Abby & Natalie), to come and hang out, dine and talk about food and Life with such Enthusiastic People. Located off the Intersection of Allen & Elmwood with a Casual Atmosphere with a bar that connects with both sides of the Restaurant. Once we sat, we talked about stuff and then we ordered some Drinks, Mike got a Kentucky Maid (he actually got 2 During the Meal), Bourbon, Muddled Mint, Cucumber, Simple Syrup & Lime Juice. Sydney got the Melon Mule that had Grey Goose Vodka (along with Melon that was soaked in the Vodka) Ginger Beer, Lime Juice, Bitters & Mint (topped with 2 Minty Leaves). While I got the Tijuana Pharmacy consisting of El Jimador Tequila, Cointreau, Blood Orange Puree, Lime Juice and a Splash of Simple Syrup, that had some Tang with each sip. Between all of us we got 4 Appetizers and a Salad to split between us, "Billy Odgens" Stuffed Banana Peppers with Rustic Toast and Garlic Oil (Blistering brings out the Peppers natural heat to go along with the Parmesan as it oozes out), Maple & Mustard glazed Pork Belly with a Cajun Sweet Potato Hash, Red Pepper and a Smoked Onion Puree (Crispy Bacon like Pieces with lightly Charred bits of sweet spuds and two more hits of Sweet & Mild from the Mustard and the Smoke on the end from the Puree). French Onion Soup with a Short Rib Dumpling, Gruyere Toast & Thyme, I normally don't like this Soup Particularly but when they pour the Broth at your Table and its nots Swamped with Onions but a Pure Savory Beef Broth. Wish there were at least 3 or 4 Dumplings as it a Rich, Melt in your Mouth Package with the Toast you can Dip in & Out. Artichoke Dip with Asiago Cheese and Naan Bread that you spoon or plunge some Bread into and collect every single Warm Cheesy Bit. As for the Salad, it was almost the Same Salad that he had at the Iron Event - Roasted Beets with Pistachio, Grapefruit, Honey Yogurt and Bleu Cheese, like at the Event I was blown away by the Vibrant Colors but as I took a Bite I got Sweet, Sour and that Bleu Cheese Funk helped Balance out some of that Sweetness. Instead of really Big Entrees and stuff we got Pizza and Chicken Dishes but before that I got myself another Cocktail, The Madam - Stellina Di Notte Prosecco, St. Germaine, Apple Juice and Soda. So the Girls got a Pizza each, (Sydney) Wild Mushroom with Goat Cheese, Melted Leeks and Truffle Oil, (Natalie) Buffalo Chicken Finger with Frank's Hot Sauce and Bleu Cheese (nothing more Buffalo Iconic than this) and (Abby) Pear & Gorgonzola with Arugula and Truffle Honey (Sweet Pizza). also split a side of French Fries (that were tender to the Touch). Mike got a Chicken Finger Sandwich with Red Cabbage Coleslaw and Sweet Potato Fries and I got Ramen Fried Chicken Fingers (there not just for slurping, blended them to make a Crust) with Kimchi, Chili Sauce and Bleu Cheese and a Cheesy Hasselback Potato (meaning there were Layers of Thin Slices all the way through). For Dessert we Split Cannoli Dip, Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie with Hot Fudge and Vanilla Ice Cream, which came to the Table Sizzling with that Warm cake like Feeling, that Molten Fudge added even more Decadence which melted the Ice Cream but not enough for us to savor its Sweetness. Also after that Heavy inducing Food we finished it off with a Blackberry Sorbet with Shaved Chocolate and Blueberries. It had Sweetness when it hit your Tongue, the Blueberries being fresh made it Tart but the Chocolate cut it back and prevented it from being Cloyingly Sweet. So much Food going on between 5 People, but a lot of Talk was going on between and a lot of Sharing passing around, even Christopher Daigler was kind enough to come out and say Hi. Ironic isn't it that we didn't order any Steak and they are known to have some of the Best Beef in House. Finally made it in for dinner here! We were downtown unexpectedly and needed to grab a quick dinner. We called before going in and we were advised that they could take us as a walk in so we headed there walked in and we're seated right away. We are greeted by a very friendly server who would go out of her way to help us decide what we wanted to eat and to bring us our food pretty quickly. Husband and I ordered delivery through Appétit. Each of us had a beef on weck with a side of mac & cheese, and also included pretzel bites with beer cheese dip and poutine as appetizers. The food was nothing to write home about (which is fine by me, because we were already home). I think there were about 6 pretzel bites, the beer cheese dip didn't taste like beer (as the menu had advertised) and was also very runny and watery. The poutine used standard shoestring fries and the restaurant probably should have packaged the gravy separately as it was a delivery order. The gruyere cheese didn't have any character to it that would indicate that it was anything other than melted white American style. In any event, any distinguishable characteristics of the separate ingredients were lost in the soggy mix. As for the sandwiches, using braised short rib instead of typical roast beef was a good call, but I noticed a significant amount of fat that I had to trim from it before eating it. Also, not like we'd planned on adding the horseradish, but for those who might have, it wasn't included. We both agreed that the Mac & Cheese tasted average. Tossing some breadcrumbs on top and finishing the dish in a pan does not a superior version make. One star for the food not making us sick and one star for it tasting good enough to finish. Appétit and its delivery service Shipday also sent my order and delivery status updates late enough that neighbors were harassing the delivery driver for being too long, but I put that squarely on those services. read more

We ordered the Sticky Bao buns with short rib, the Big Mac deviled eggs, the poutine, the ramen fried chicken fingers, and the IPA burger. Let me tell you, this is one of the best meals that I have had in a long time. The Bao buns were the literal perfect balance of salt, fat, acid, and heat. The meat was seasoned so well and the taste of the buns with all the components was to die for! Same with the Big Mac eggs. I don't know how they get so much flavor into an egg, but it was a success. The poutine was everything you could want in a poutine. The Ramen fried chicken fingers were an absolute delight. Crispy with a legit Ramen flavor. It is served with a sweet chili sauce that take the flavor over the edge-just outstanding! The IPA burger had a lot of beer cheese, and had a really charred taste, but I love beer cheese, so that is hardly a complaint. Lastly, the mac and cheese is otherworldly! This is a pretty cool spot in Allentown, with a good vibe. The food was good but not the best. The waitress was a little rushed and a little unknowledgeable about the menu. I asked if I could get the taco appetizer - it comes with 3 different types of proteins. I don't eat meat, so I asked if I could get all 3 as Tuna and Avocado. To my delight, the waitress said yes! However, when the tacos came out it was how it was on the menu despite my request. When I mentioned it to the waitress, it was more of an "Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you they won't do that in the kitchen", type conversation - so I opted for their version of shrimp fried rice. Now, I won't lie! Their presentation was pretty cool. It came out on a plate, but it was pouring out of a Chinese takeout container! The drinks weren't bad. For late night, this place is definitely very cool. We're talking raw wood, whimsical mismatched lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling in octopus-like configurations, trendy bar food that sounds filling without being fried. The restaurant space is open and airy, and the bar area has a rustic underground feel. For dinner, place is maybe a little TOO cool. I came with two friends to catch up after our second week back at good old UB, and couldn't hear a word either of them said over everyone else trying to talk over early 2000s indie hits being played at top volume. The open-ness of the dining room and close quarters in the bar means there aren't many tables and not much waiting space, and while we were seated shortly after arriving, we watched parties after us walk right out. The experience was two-star at best. I can't think of any occasion where this would be an ideal setting for dinner. The food here is pretty awesome, unfortunately. The cocktails aren't your usual fare, and are reasonably priced at $8-$12 each. Burgers, salad and pizza may sound basic, but the options here are surprisingly imaginative - one of my dining companions got a burger with Buffalo's own Bison dip and handmade salt and pepper chips, which along with being a combination I've never seen anywhere else, looked fantastic. I tried the pear and gorgonzola and wild mushroom pizzas, which are a great size for an entree and have this wonderful soft crust. The flavor combinations are interesting enough to make a simple personal pizza worth the trip. This would probably be a weird place to get take-out from, but I'd do it. I'd love to eat the food served here on an airy patio somewhere. I'd consider coming back to try it out as a bar. read more

The pizza special had hardly any cheese and the salumi was added to early in the cooking process, so was dried out completely and nearly inedible. This was my second time here since its opening. The food is good - beets salad was surprisingly thoughtful. It is the atmosphere/service that could use some work. We walk in and have to wait for the host to decide she is finished texting to seat us. It is insanely loud in the restaurant. To make a long story short, a patron at the bar kicks a glass across the restaurant at a table and it shatters everywhere. Turns out, it is one of the owners table where the glass is directed and is laughing, seems to be amused. What if that was another table with actual guests at it? Would it be hilarious then? To top it all off, I try using the restroom before leave and either neither person knows how to lock the door or both of the gender neutral bathrooms have locks on them. Last Saturday, I was "that guy" walking into a busy restaurant and asking for a table without a reservation. I have been wanting to try Falley Allen since before they opened and I have just now been able to get there. It was worth the wait. We started with the Crispy Bao Buns with Short Rib and a side of the Skillet Mac-N-Cheese. The flavor of the short rib, paired with sweet pickled veggie shavings, slice of jalapeño, a dab of cheese and the fluffy warm buns.......heaven! Sweet, spicy, fluffy, crunchy, just delicious. So fantastic, we ordered a second! The Mac-N-Cheese was the opposite, no flavor whatsoever. We ate it but all decided we wouldn't waste the space in our bellies next time. Next round of food included our second order of the Bao Buns, the Brussels Sprouts and the Buffalo Chicken Flatbread which was on their specials menu. The second order of Buns did not disappoint. Just as great as the first order! The Brussels Sprouts with bacon and maple syrup was good. The bacon chunks were huge and plentiful. The flavor was great, we had just wished the sprouts had been crisped up a bit. It seemed they had been boiled. Again, flavor was great, we just prefer roasted sprouts with a slight crisp to them. The Flatbread, wow! The chicken bites were in every bite. Crumbly Bleu Cheese and slices of celery sprinkled everywhere, the crust was crispy on the bottom yet, fluffy under the cheese and all the goodies on top. We enjoyed every bite! Our server was wonderful. She was friendly and attentive. There was another server on that had helped clear our plates at one point. It was clear that both servers took pride in being at Falley Allen and enjoyed what they were doing. It wasn't that way with a few other staff but nothing detrimental to our visit.
