I just love this place. There's something about the decoration makes me feel like I'm in Paris, combined with the odd, clicking wood flooring and the explosion of senses when you walk through the door that just does it for me. Every time! Wandering through the aisles, longingly gazing at exotic ingredients, imagining dishes and meals that you could create with them is like a small holiday for me. Best compared probably to a French Farmer's market in the twisty pedestrian zone of an old cobbled city. Last time I ventured here (thanks to a 50 Euro gift voucher), I decided to indulge on some of the aged Beef fillet as well as various flavours of burgers they had on display and boy did I enjoy those. The dinner here was pretty good. We were given bottled water by default and were not given the option to have tap water, but that was a minor inconvenience. I ordered the rabbit and I was quite pleased with the order. There were little rabbit meat-on-the-bones and they were quite tasty, surprisingly moist for rabbit. Would I come here again? I've only tried the deli in Fallon & Byrne but they make a mean sandwich! Really good quality ingredients. Think bubbling cheese and crispy parma? The stuff sandwich dreams are made of. The seating area is just inside on the ground floor, it looks like it'd be a good place to sit with your laptop and work/procrastinate away. Fallon & Byrne is a multi level establishment with a wine bar downstairs, an upscale grocery on the main floor, along with a deli and a restaurant upstairs. I have not had a chance to sample the restaurant or wine bar however I have been to the grocery and deli many times. This review will be focused on these elements. The grocery, while expensive compared to the nearby Dunnes grocery, contains many hard to find, organic, exotic items which you will likely not find at Dunnes or Tesco. We would go here occasionally to peruse these more unique items and supplement the staples at Dunnes or M&S. The deli makes amazing sandwiches and there is limited seating right in front of the windows. I have stopped for lunch several times and the sandwiches are fresh, prepared quickly and accurately and always with a smile. read more

Was here today during the Ireland vs England Six Nations game. Place was busy but got a good seat to watch the match and eat too. Took a while for the food to come out and we did have to speak to a couple of waiters to ensure we got our food and drinks but the manager apologised and even gave us complimentary crostini with humous & pesto (very nice). Food then came and it was delicious. Charcuterie and mixed cheese board with a great selection of meats and cheeses. Went to pay at the end of the match and the manager had taken the food off the bill as a courtesy as we had waited so long for it. Completely unexpected and very much appreciated. He turned an okay lunch into a great one and will definitely be back due to his customer service...just a pity about the result of the match! read more

Totally in love with this place! They have delicious fruit and italian delicatessen ready to take home and share with your family. They are the only shop (I am pretty sure) that has PINBERRIES, you don't know what it is? shame on you! Pinberries are the latest invention in the food industry, half pineapple and half strawberries, they are basically strawberries that taste like a pineapple. I really recommend to try it! Not to mention that they have REAL italian pasta and pasta sauce (mutti is the best) and biscuits from Mulino Bianco, which is a really famous brand in Italy. read more

This review is for the restaurant. Our party of two adults and two kids were the first ones seated on a quiet Sunday evening. The staff was super attentive and considerate of families with small children. But the food was the highlight - fantastic beet root salad (perfectly seasoned, a la Alice Waters style minimalism) and the grilled nectarines with prosciutto tasted like the summer. I love this place. Fallon & Byrne is a posh grocery's down stairs and beautiful restaurant upstairs also. The food available in the grocery's is incredible and a real treat. A bit expensive but extroadinarily healthy and tasty. A good place to find something new. Great fresh vegatables. Eating in the Restaurant upstairs is also a real treat. The service is perfect. The waiting staff actually do wait on the customers. You dont find yourself gaping about looking for some one for a glass a water, or reaching out to fill everybody's and your wine glass yourself. Every move is professionally anticipated with grace and class and the evening flows smoothly. You feel relaxed and like royalty. And of course the food is top class. To be very much enjoyed with special people on a special occasion. Once seated at this restaurant you are offered a glass of champagne. Well I was anyway, and my pals too. Its a pleasant entrance. This is for the upstairs restaurant and not the Deli as its far too expensive and I would only be torturing myself by even bothering to have a browse around it... The latest Lunchtime offering at Fallon & Byrne upstairs is ok. I've been there twice in the last two weeks enticed by the menu and the pricing. Unfortunately the only decent thing that seems to be value for money are the Mains, the Burger in particular. The Salads are a little bland and the platters are lacking somewhat. You leave the table still hungry, but maybe thats the hope that patrons will order two courses. A tiny little bit more effort and more substantial portions would see me return in a flash however. The staff are superb and it sometimes seems incongruous being silver served when the food is that little bit below par. I really like Fallon & Byrne I just think they need to pull up their foodie socks a little! read more

Just had a really good meal here tonight. We got married here last year and they did an outstanding job on the meal that night, our friends are still talking about it, they somehow managed to cook 70 fillet steaks perfectly to order - KUDOS! Tonight we had cocktails and half a dozen of seriously fresh and delicious oysters while we perused the menu. I had a beetroot and goats cheese starter which although delicious somehow lost the goats cheese a bit, my hubby had the fois gras which was faultless - followed up by extremely good steak and bernaisse, only problem here was the chips - we have experienced this before here, with such good food you would think they would sort out the fries - they are pretty dealt frozen things; so not in keeping with the rest of the food. Our other main was a delicious piece of soul withfab veg and potato, great deserts, desert wines and espressos. Location is very special. Like these kind of restaurant. My startet (pork belly terrine) was great. The burger, however, was too dry, there was no sauce and a very strong herb on it. I returned it and the manager took it off the bill, we even got 2 dessert on the house. In brief i would say it is a great restaurant if you just take the right things (like the terrine). read more

So this restaurant was way more classy than I was expecting. We had just got off of our red eye to Dublin and came here for a noon reservation I had made the month before. First impression was that this was a really nice restaurant, lots of natural lighting, not terribly crowded at lunchtime, friendly front staff. A little after we sat down, they brought around a bread tray with bread made in house. Those were amazing. Unfortunately, they only came around once. I did the lunchtime meal deal for €22 which consisted of two course off of the set menu. I got the bacon burger with cashel blue cheese with sides of watercress and chips (fries). I have to say that the burger was one of the strangest tasting things I have ever had. I don't know if it is the meat is really different in Ireland or it was off in some way, but it was awful. Fries were also a miss. The watercress, however, was quite good. For the second course, i ordered the Knickerbocker Glory. Took forever, or at least a lightyear, to come out of the kitchen. Despite the wait it was sooo good. I could've had three of those. Woulda coulda shoulda. The bill also took forever to get. I'm not sure what was going on that day because it was not crowded at all, but service was agonizingly slow. Honestly, I don't think I would go back for lunch or dinner, maybe just dessert. read more

For some reason, the three ladies serving all ignored me for several minutes as I stood at the counter, and instead they proceeded to serve two or three customers who came after me! Suffice it to say, I won't be going back there, for ever ever So, I gave the women a 'dude wtf?' stare and marched off in a huff and into F&B to see if things would improve and improve they did, as soon as I arrived into the cafe area: 'How can I help you sir?" The two lads behind the counter were extremely helpful, amiable and kept me entertained as we bantered about the 'organic milk with a donegal accent'! Split over four levels are four very clasy venues. A ridiculously fresh and well stocked grocer where you can find 7 varieties of potato, loads of fresh organic produce and a deli that has a seriously mouth watering selection of cheese - and boy do i love cheese. A very trendy wine bar below, a function room up top, and an absolutely unbeatable restaurant upstairs. I totally love this place. Ive experienced the restuarant cuisine a good five times now and nothings quite compared. Surprisngly affordable for the pampering you'll recieve, the staff are friendly, helpful and seem to actually like their job, whilst retaining some kind of genuine passion for what they do - the waitress told me theyre sent on wine courses and the like, and you can tell theyre used to catering to some fairly fussy types. Its the small things like the genuine reccomendations from the staff & the loccitane hand cream in the bathroom that come as a pleasant surprise. Only draw back would be the lack of outside area/space, but i hear us smokers are a dying breed at any rate! Everything a foodie wants and loves is all packed into the Fallon and Byrne supermarket. Fresh breads, fresh fruit and vegetables, salads, a butchers, cheeses, cakes etc.. Literally everything. But it's not your average supermarket.. Here you can find really different veggies that aren't in other places. There's a large selection of American candy and cereals which I loved. I got the shmores (chocolate and marshmallow) pop tarts which where 6quid but worth every penny. I had three today (tear). I wasn't in the humour of cooking after the long walk around town so the mother and I decided to pick up something easy and quick to heat up at home. She had the bangers, mash and caramelised onions.. Now these bangers are the biggest sausages I've ever seen you only get one but that's more than enough there huge. She loved it said it was really good. I chose the meatballs with sautéed potatoes. So much flavour in that sauce and the meat was tender and soft. I haven't been upstairs yet so that's why I'm gonna wait for the five stars :) can't fault it! read more

The grocer is quite good (best in Dublin!) and the wine bar is very good but the restaurant left a lot to be desired! My husband's steak was over cooked, my fish was not what it was described to be, my martini wasn't even close to being dirty never mind the no vermouth request, and it was impossible to get a water refill... I know how fussy this sounds (I know that I am fussy but I am also direct and polite) but I really don't like having to ask for water when the average main is €24. I genuinely feel bad about posting such a negative review but I was expecting so much more considering the buzz around this restaurant! To be fare, they were so good in other ways- awesome hostess that was incredibly friendly and efficient, prompt initial service, interesting dessert wine selection, clean and comfortable decor... The coffee is excellent, and the little café counter is a great place to grab a pastry or porridge for breakfast. The shop has everything! F&B offers a large selection of interesting fruits and veg that would be difficult to find in most shops of Dublin. The cheese counter is full of yummy, specialty cheeses from around the world. The butchers of F&B are incredibly helpful and offer so many interesting cuts of meat. The prices are a bit steep, but if there is something you can't find in other shops, it's worth the extra. The restaurant is a lovely place with excellent food and great service. If it's food or alcohol you seek...Fallon & Byrne will meet your needs! read more

A gem of a place this one! It's a cross between a Waitrose and a Wholefoods supermarket. Amazingly laid out fresh produce, you can find all your weird and wonderful fruits and veggies here (red bananas? I never knew they existed!). If you want to make any world cuisine with the best quality ingredients, this is the place to get them all under one roof! Now, to be honest, I'd prefer to buy my Asian and other world ingredients in the independent stores around the city as Fallon & Byrne is actually quite pricey. BUT, they do have amazing condiments and oils and other fab ingredients. It's a foodie's dream Dublin food hall! As well as an awesome supermarket, butchers, cheese counter, fresh fish counter, they also have a cafe where they sell a lovely selection of soups, sandwiches (Irish style, best ever! Beautiful bread and ingredients!), Hot dishes from such places like Thailand, India, Morocco, China, etc... fabulous! (although, being Dublin, the spice is a bit mild in the dishes). There is a restaurant on the first floor and a wine cellar/cafe in the basement. Where else would you want to spend a day and eve in this lifetime? I absolutely love Fallon & Byrne, and you'll often find me there on a Friday evening treating myself to a takeaway bottle of wine and something for dinner. The grocery store stocks many items from all over the world (a variety of canned and dried foods and fresh cheeses, meats, fish and take-out food in the deli area). Recent discoveries include Co-Yo (coconut yogurt...I especially like the chocolate version!) and Napoleon cheese (made from ewe's milk...and all the better for it) and F&B's fish pie, creamy and satisfying! I can also recommend their cocktails. We were here celebrating hubby's birthday last month, and I loved the rosemary & strawberry martini, so dangerous - you forget you're drinking alcohol! We were able to just walk in off the street and pop up to the bar and order the cocktails. These are 2 for the price of 1 on Sundays! In addition to the grocery store which has a (usually packed!) small sit-down coffee area, there is also an atmospheric wine bar downstairs and a very popular restaurant upstairs. read more

GROCERY STORE I wouldnt really do my shopping here at all. Fallon and Byrne is an upmarket grocery store. Offering deluxe and gourmet produce that you could probably get in Dunnes across the road but all of their products are organic or imported, I presume that's why everything above average price. They also have cereals from the U.S and things like fluff. DOWNSTAIRS RESTAURANT 5 stars for the wine selection. I believe on a Monday you can buy wine off the shelf at RRP but drink it with your food or on its own while seated. I had lots of little nibbles here with friends. The wine and food was really nice. DELI COUNTER they have a great selection of stuff for lunch. You'd want to make sure you get there fairly early as they could run out of something delicious later afternoon FYI They also hold wedding receptions read more

Now that I've also tried the restaurant upstairs, I can give my verdict : the wine bar downstairs rocks, it's the best place for get together and the nibbles are yummy. The shop is great for the amount of rare things it has to offer. The food at the restaurant was inconsistent though. For the price range, i would have expected to be wowed from start to finish and I have to say the €25 halibut main left a lot to be desired, really dry and tough on the edges, as if reheat or whatever was wrong with it. My partner's duck was slightly undercooked at the centre and the potatoes were amazingly tough... It remains a great spot in Dublin as long as you choose wisely :-D read more

We had booked to eat at the restaurant upstairs but needed lunch to be quick so they suggested we go downstairs to their wine cellar. My husband went for the steak sandwich, while I had the goat's cheese, beetroot & rocket salad. The rest of the fam had a mushroom burger & another cod & mash. But what made the meal was the desserts! Cheesecake was creamy and perfect balance of tart & sweetness. The chocolate brownie & cookies were pretty perfect too. While I wish we had the time to eat at their restaurant the wine cellar was perfect for us. We'll be back to try the restaurant next time. read more

Expensive? yes, so it's best to go for those special spoil days when you want something extra. Buy the Swedish Glaze Raspberry flavour ice-cream here. gluten-free, lactose free.You really taste the difference between that and regular ice cream.
